Guess that wedding was shotgun after all
by javabeans
Heh.
Lots of netizens speculated as to the reason for the speedy courtship and quick wedding of Kwon Sang-woo and Sohn Tae-young, and a popular theory was that a pregnancy had precipitated the nuptials.
Those rumors weren’t based on anything but speculation, but it turns out that this time they were coincidentally on the mark: Sohn Tae-young is expecting the couple’s first child in the spring. She’s six months pregnant, the wedding was on September 28, you do the math.
Back when the couple announced wedding plans on July 18 at a press conference, they’d declined to comment on the question of whether Sohn was pregnant at the time. Sohn also later denied pregnancy rumors in a later encounter with a reporter. But I suppose there’s no point in hiding the fact now, and the couple announced their pregnancy in a phone interview on the 3rd. (The couple is currently enjoying time off work in Australia.)
Keke. Now, I find this news funny, but let’s keep things decent here. I’m sure we’re all above slut-shaming, and if we aren’t, my “delete” button is! Fair warning, y’alls.

i'm sure they denied the pregnancy rumors to somewhat salvage his popularity and to not cause such a frenzy among his fans and the media. however, it's very common for couples (at least all the ones i know) to hold off on announcing their pregnancy until after the first tri-mester since most miscarriages happen in the first tri-mester.
i agree with a lot of you...why the unnecessary name calling? they're both adults in a relationship. now, if she TRAPPED him by getting pregnant...that's another story! i guess we'll never know.... :P

this is just the sign of the times - nothing to be ashamed of. Attraction and sexual desire is just a natural physical thing. Most of us have/ will undergo this stage in life. Koreans and other Asian countries are just not that open to this aspect.

Haha, I knew it! Oh well, I never really had much respect for the woman anyways.
And the reason why people call her a "slut", as heinous as it sounds, is not because she had premarital sex and chose to become pregnant befoe marriage. It's because Son TaeYoung is known to have high profile relationships with MANY CELEBRITY MEN before she settled down with Kwon SangWoo. And by many, I'm talking about breakups after a year and then hopping into a new relationship soon afterwards; and then repeat cycle. She's had about 5 I think. That's a lot. And not to mention, not a very good image.
And like anna, said, are we sure it's his baby? LMAO.

I laugh at these people saying Son Tae-young “trapped” him. Hello! Kwon Sang-woo isn’t some little kid that doesn’t know that contraceptives aren’t 100% effective. That's a risk you take whenever you choose to have sex. I don’t agree with shotgun weddings, they usually never work out, but at least he’s taking responsibility for his actions. That’s more than I can say for a lot of men out there nowadays.

#55, I understand the reasoning, but that's still unacceptable. (And I know you're explaining the stance, not promoting it.) Of course I know it's an issue for society at large to condemn the woman for sex and condone (or praise) the man, and that it isn't just confined to Sohn-Kwon here.
But it's ridiculous to rip on Sohn for the pregnancy as though Kwon had nothing to do with it.

#55, i think if u take away all the celebrity status and if they were all normal citizens with normal jobs (not that acting is abnormal), there are people who jump from one relationship to another to another to another. so maybe the person is emotionally dependent, i don't know. but does that mean they deserve the label? and i sincerely believe that not all dating relationships leads to sex.
"But it’s ridiculous to rip on Sohn for the pregnancy as though Kwon had nothing to do with it."
i agree with javabeans on this one. takes two to tango.

Whoops, I didn't mean in any way whatsoever to justify that slut-shaming was acceptable. Should've put that in. I was just explaining why people jumped to conclusions and might call her a slut.
And javabeans, I wasn't really ripping on Son for the pregnancy, if you were directing that comment towards me. If you are, please read my reply thoroughly once more. =)
And it is not really my business whatsoever to be concerned with their lives. Maybe that person is emotionally dependent. Maybe that person isn't. I don't know. But no, that does not mean they deserve the label, and I never said it was justifiable to call someone a slut in my post. You have your opinions, and I have mine, so please respect them as I will do unto yours.
Thanks.

cee, that was not directed your way. I did figure you weren't advocating the name-calling, just explaining it, which is what I was responding to.

I don't know why but it always rankles me when people say that at least the man is taking responsibility as if that's something super special. If put that way, then at least the woman is willing to carry his child. How awesome of her!

It is super special in my eyes since a lot of American women have to take men to court to get them to take responsibility.
I don't want a kid, but I'd give up 8 months of my life in a heartbeat to carry Kwon Sang Woo's baby:-) I'd be set for life.haha. Now, carrying Larry the Cashier from Walmart's baby on the other hand....

Sesame street, what exactly were we "conned" out of? Some of us don't impose outrageous (double) standards of morality on actors we like. They're just people, honestly. It's fans who preach about being conned or lied to who are so judgmental that they're "disappointed" when someone gets married or pregnant. It's not like the actors owe us anything, or have to tell us every little thing about their personal issues right away.

I haven't got a problem with a shot-gun wedding but lying about the baby makes them seem ashamed of themselves and makes the whole thing look shady. I think situations like these should be done in a straight forward, honest manner.

My wife tells me that much before KSW, Sohn had two boyfriends before KSW, and that she dumped one for another because she was trying to upgrade (more star power). I haven't confirmed, but that's what my Korean wife said.

Poor boy..lucky girl...this is a making of a K drama right here!!! Everything about it is really suspicious and fishy!!! Even if they were married, they only got married for the interest of their respective careers...the boy, marries the pregnant girl to save his face..and his career ( talk about a big responsibility to the public), the girl, lucky girl, intentionally got herself pregnant by a beautiful man who any woman on this planet would like a shot of ( ..very smart girl...very smart!!! ) and a name for herself...and now..a baby..applause..applause.. next chapter pleazeee. what a bunch of fakes....

im not hating but, all the comments on how they're such good looking people is pretty ridiculous, because even though this is somewhat stereotypical, a very large amount of the south korean show business, well at least recently has had cosmetic surgery, and this is to "enhance" their facial features, i mean yes they are quite attractive to look at,(Yoona :D) but its not necessarily true that they will have attractive children, however im not saying thats impossible. And by all means, those people (SNSD) are freaking gorgeous
