Guess that wedding was shotgun after all
by javabeans
Heh.
Lots of netizens speculated as to the reason for the speedy courtship and quick wedding of Kwon Sang-woo and Sohn Tae-young, and a popular theory was that a pregnancy had precipitated the nuptials.
Those rumors weren’t based on anything but speculation, but it turns out that this time they were coincidentally on the mark: Sohn Tae-young is expecting the couple’s first child in the spring. She’s six months pregnant, the wedding was on September 28, you do the math.
Back when the couple announced wedding plans on July 18 at a press conference, they’d declined to comment on the question of whether Sohn was pregnant at the time. Sohn also later denied pregnancy rumors in a later encounter with a reporter. But I suppose there’s no point in hiding the fact now, and the couple announced their pregnancy in a phone interview on the 3rd. (The couple is currently enjoying time off work in Australia.)
Keke. Now, I find this news funny, but let’s keep things decent here. I’m sure we’re all above slut-shaming, and if we aren’t, my “delete” button is! Fair warning, y’alls.

why hide it if it was going to get obvious soon?

Well, at least the man didn't run away. It's not like it's the first case ever. I guess people have urges (just make sure it's on right, yeah?).
Hopefully this will end up to be a successful relationship and no divorce will come out of it.

i'm not surprised since i always thought KSW will be a bachelor for a few more years especially with his career and all. I kind of speculated that there is something behind the sudden wedding. still, they are married now.. i wish them to have many years of happy life together with lots of babies. I agree too with the earlier post, good strategy by his PR people, drop the bomb while they are M-I-A!!!

I don't know how to react. I've already accepted that Sang Woo was married and I was half expecting this scenario because how would you explain the abrupt announcement right? I just hope that they will not separate after the baby is born.

But if I were them, they could have managed the public perception of a shotgun wedding if (a) admitted that they are pregnant; (b) held a civil wedding, without the hype; and (c) had the pregnancy before holding a lavish wedding. The route they chose makes me feel like no one wanted this pregnancy. My concerns are for the child. Someday, he/she will learn that his/her parents have the capacity to lie about him/her -- even in and to the public.

Well JD let's don't speculate too much as we really don't know what happened. He probably did want the baby and if he didn't then precautions would've been taken. Anyway congrats to him and his wife and the child. Eventually superstardom has to take a back seat to reality.

"slut" shaming is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Why condemn girls for being sexually active before marriage when guys do it as much, or even more? A girl who has had sex isn't "impure" or "dirty" --seriously, virginity has nothing to do with your character or who you really are. And yet, we use virginity to judge girls ALL the time and yet do not discourage guys from being promiscuous.
Double standards suck.
Congrats to the couple though :)

^ i wholly concur :) old habits die hard, esp when phallocentric views are so ingrained in us, generation after generation, steeped in much other "reinforcements" like sexual history relating to your roles as daughter, wife, friend, partner. nobody wants to think about it, but a healthy-bodied male like kwone with a long list of attractive checklist items to tick off, can't possible have stayed celibate or even virgin long before he met the missus. but it's "male nature" to "do what he must", and "scandalous" If a woman meets her partners on equal terms. why can't they ALL be damaged goods, the whole lot of them together? ROFL

Shotgun weddings: The gift that just keeps on giving.
In any case, I hope things work out for the best. Maybe someday Korea will be more liberal so couples don't have to get married like this : (

Didn't Jang Hyuk get married while his girlfriend was pregnant or even after the baby was born? Now he was truthful and honest, and didn't hide anything to the media or his fans. While it's good KSW and STY are taking responsibility for their actions, we have to agree that the way they handled it shows dishonesty, and if she denied it, well, she lied. If they knew the news would break out eventually, why hide it in the first place? Not that we care if they lie or are dishonest, that's totally their business. Shows they care more about their image and getting business than their integrity. We have to agree KSW really made it like it was a fairytale and his confessions of love and romance--he played his part well. But hey, that's show business, some can live with it and still be themselves, others are victims of it and just play their parts.

I think the current statistic in the U.S. is that around 37% of babies are born out of wedlock. At least their baby will have married parents. Not that having unmarried parents is bad because it's all about choice, right?

Seriously, what's with calling her a slut? Women have the right to express their sexuality just as men have been doing all along. There's nothing wrong with this situation, especially if they are married. Celebrities are normal people too. I don't see why netizens are so concerned over a so-called 'shotgun wedding'. What's it to them anyways?

Agree with prev posters saying they handled it wrong.
Should have just come out with it gracefully like Jang Hyuk handled it , and it would sound a lot more dignified - more so anyway than the way the KSW couple are announcing their news now.
(at that, wasn't Jang Hyuk steadily dating his wife for a while already? it wasn't some whirlwind thing. just a natural progression of the relationship perhaps?)
Or is it going to be (for the KSW couple) a case of:
- "hey, we didn't know .. back then?" or;
- "we just thought the symptoms or lack of ovulation cycle was due to stress of wedding planning? ^ ^
It's not that possible to still not know (or even suspect) at 3-4 months, which was about when they got married?
Finger-pointing "slut" responsibility ==> again agree here.
NOT making any personal judgement on promiscuity (I actually think two mature committed grownups should know what they're doing and do NOT have to wait for some black and white agreement for the world to see. Commitment is in the mind and heart, NOT on some piece of paper endorsement).
But definitely, the decision and responsibility should float BOTH ways.
In fact, normally it would be more the guy than the girl who would want to progress the relationship physically (esp in teenhood :P)

Slut? Thats a bit extreme. They're both two adults that love each other and are taking responsibility for their actions. I can see why she would deny it at first. I mean, its really none of anyones business but theirs. Best wishes to both of them. They make a lovely couple.

I agree. Zeus was such a man whore, he fathered halfgods before he removed his toga. And the Greeks worshipped that slut. Think about it; without man sluts, the Greeks would have no religion. Suck on that Socrates!
But I definitely agree with Ed. All of the magazine coverage and visibility was a Hallyu business plan to protect KSW's international image. Cynical stuff, but well timed and executed. It'll work outside of Korea and domestically in the longer run.
Congratulations to the married couple on their new child!

i've noticed that most guys get married cause of a kid, but they probably do love each other, it just takes a visit from the stork to say yes to marriage, also what their family & society will think. besides marriage is a a 50/50 thing anyways. they are adults, & its really their own business. hey maybe their kid will be a Hallyu star.

To DWILLIAMS, I'm not speculating because I really don't care about the BTS of these all because we will never know. But these couple made some things public like denying that they are pregnant. When people make things public -- they know that they will never have control on its consequences, especially on their child. When the child grows up, I am sure that the only thing that would matter to him/her is what was said to the public. So when I said " The route they chose makes me feel like no one wanted this pregnancy", it was an opinion made out of putting myself in the shoes of their would-be child, who in the future might want to know how were mum and dad when she/he came to this world, and learn that his/her loving parents kept mum on his/her existence for a while. If it happens that she/he grows up thinking like me, I'd say they their actions before admission that mum is pregrant make me FEEL like I was an accident that they had to be responsible for (nonetheless, at least the child can use this excuse to get everything she/he wants from his/her parents -- hehehehe). Lessons learned: the truth will set you free (not only now but also in the future), so just be honest to save you time explaining history.
