From the set of A Star’s Lover
by javabeans
Only two days from its premiere, SBS’s A Star’s Lover invited press to one of its filming sites on December 8 for a preview of the new Wednesday-Thursday drama.
The drama’s production press conference already took place last month with the main cast. This time, lead actors Choi Ji-woo, playing a famous top actress, and Yoo Ji-tae, her “normal guy” love interest, were present to talk to the media, although third wheel Lee Ki-woo was not.
I think, speaking from an objective standpoint, Choi Ji-woo has looked better in the past. Also, that couture hunch she’s doing is an example of one of those things people do to look interesting in magazines, but only make you look, uh, really odd in real life.
With Yoo Ji-tae in his casual attire and shoes next to her, the internal story I’m constructing to explain the odd juxtaposition is that she’s a crazed Bridezilla determined to have The Best Wedding Evah — explaining the haughty model pose and the bridal gown with full train — and Yoo’s all, “Whatever, dude.”
Actually, let’s go one step further in this imaginary scenario to say that Choi’s like the older, famous sister of the bride. Little Sis is one-upping her unni by marrying early, so while Choi is secretly bitter, she’s outwardly forced to put up a front of faux generosity. In a passive-aggressive move, she tells Little Sis that she’s “sorry” she can’t make the wedding because it’s her drama press conference day. Then she gets on the phone, screams to her manager to change the date of her press conference to coincide with her sister’s wedding, orders up a designer white gown to rival her sister’s wedding gown, and shows up just one flower short of a bouquet, if you get my drift.
At the press conference, Yoo is all, “Whatever, dude,” because it’s not his fault his co-star lost her mind. Even though it IS getting a little annoying that she keeps referring to him “the groom” instead of “my co-star.”
As though that weren’t enough, La Diva even forces her stylist to follow her around holding up the train of her bridal gown dress, like a maid of honor at a wedding, because she is just that ridiculous. And she basks in the bright white glow of the camera flashes, because it’s the only warmth she’ll get today.
I mean, come on. With photos like these, this stuff just writes itself, doesn’t it?

Maybe they're just comfortable with eachother that's why she calls him groom and the dress goes wth the theme of the drama but beyond that...

Hee!
Hilarious~
Yoo Ji-tae does look so great and casual, you can't help but imagine anyone would feel goofy showing up next to him in full ball-attire...at least she doesn't show it!
Man, keep the YJT pics coming, though, I'm definitely appreciating them! ;)
Thanks for a great post, I'm looking forward to this drama~

Seems like you don't like CJW, javabeans.
Anyway, thanks for posting this. I'm sure she was just joking with him, calling him the groom. I mean it's her sister's wedding...how can she miss that? So I understand her phone call with her manager to change the date of her press conference to coincide with her sister’s wedding...
Of course CJW would be kinda frustrated! Wouldn't you? I would!!
I thought she looked beautiful~
1 more day till it airs :)

I've always been CJW fan, but then I also like really sad dramas that leave me in tears. She's gorgeous though. The woman looks darn good for her age.

Puahahah, it IS weird that she's going all out like it's some sort of award show. Perhaps she's embracing her superstar character??
CJW looks pretty good, minus the dress, her face is less tighter than Air City, which is good thing. In Air City she looks like she's fresh from a face lift.

I hate the texture of the dress....that cheap slinky shiny look. And her shoes are a disaster. You don't do nude shoes with white.
She's probably dressed like that in character for the drama. I don't think she enjoyed wearing it with the long train and all. Oh.....the things you have to do when you are a big star playing a big star.
JTY looks cool and casual as usual. I have a feeling he's just like that in real life.

That dress is not doing her any favors at all. I had no idea she was so popular as to encite rage at being slightly poked at. Is she ebbing in the flow of Yon-Sama or she's just that good in her own right?

I love that your "imaginary scenario" totally fits the pics-- the cool and casual Yoo totally looks unflappable here. They make a strange pairing, but I like how edgy he looks (I've never seen him act before, sadly). Hopefully, he can do something to bring CJW back to earth when she wants to float away on a cloud of "dramaculous" tears.
Poor CJW! Always the glamorous hallyu star, never the bride...

Dramabeans, you are trying to be funny, are you, really ? . Cjw might be a top hallyu star but her recent drama and movieattempts have been dismal at the ratings and she must be feeling really tense or depressed inside. it must be tough to come down your mountain after so many successes. Being in her 30s does not help either .. and And why must you ltake someone down just because they are good at what they do-for her its the tearjerker roles- ? your ' imaginary scenario" is kinda spiteful and mean.

CJW fans are so funny. You think your idol is going to be depressed because someone said she looks like a silly bride in that dress? (By the way, she does.) Maybe you guys don't understand humor.

It looks like they staged this for a scene from the drama. Media is pretty pissed they ended up in the drama without permission (ironic - now they know what it feels like! they're not pro actors so it will be more realistic anyway.) So, no wonder the ridiculous "Star Mari" dress :D

Junebaby, sorry, I think you're the one missing the point. Did you read this post? It's ALL about the dress and how she looked in it. Did it make fun of CJW personally or call her names? No, it was making fun of the pictures and the silliness of the setup.

#25, yup, it's Supa-star Mari!
Apparently now the news is out that this press conference was a faux event for drama use, but SBS didn't bother disclosing the shoot details and the press is now upset at being used. Oh, media, acting so righteous and indignant. How's that for some irony, eh? ;)

Is this legal? Don't they have a rule about showing pictures or videos to the public? They blur out pictures of non celebrities with celebrities in newspapers or online, but what about in motion? If they talk, do they have paid for it?

LOL... The drama has not even started yet and as usual, CJW will attract a lot of attention, warranted or not. Looks like she was able to pull the diva role based on the reactions of some ppl here. Wedding gown or not, she looked gorgeous in that strapless white gown.
Regarding the press........what irony indeed! lol
javabeans, u never fail to amuse me.... ur scenario is the best.

i have no problem at all with the dress, or whateva dude
all i care about is the storyline. what's the point of bringing up a dress??
i dont see the fuss. maybe choi ji woo wearing that dress deliberately to make her point out the theme of this drama. u know...
choi ji woo, the top actress has to wear sumthing flashy and elegant for this press conference and ji-tae as the 'normal' guy has to wear sumthin normal for this to show his character in this series. whew....

Javabeans, I notice that you don't like CJW and all your comments about her or her dress or anything related to her have always been negative. I think you are a BIT bias and your review is partial. Don't you think?

As Diana stated Ji Woo wore that gown & Ji Tae wore a "normal" daily outfit to show their respective characters in the drama. Normally, Ji Woo doesn't like wearing formal or dressy outfits when she's not filming. Yes, CG, I noticed that Javabeans always have negative comments about Ji Woo. Javabeans, as a responsible person you should be neutral to every actresses. It's so sad that quite a few S. Korean actresses committed suicides because of bad media & insensitive neitzens, most recently the actress in Boys Over Flowers. Let's just be glad that these actresses are entertaining us. Just like somebody said "it's not easy to be an actress in South Korea". As responsible audience, we should be careful of what we say to avoid distress on other people.
