Two Kwons for the price of one
by javabeans
Recently married Kwon Sang-woo (Bad Love) is looking for his next drama project, and he seems to have settled on one: Cinderella Man.
Kwon unexpectedly dropped out of his last film project at the last minute, which he was to star in with Ha Ji-won, and suffered a few criticisms for it. His high-profile drama before that, Daemul (with Go Hyun-jung), was canceled before it even got off the ground. His last drama, Bad Love, was a flop. Kwon is a big enough celebrity that I wouldn’t say he’s been in a slump, but he IS in danger of some of that luster wearing off his star.
Hopefully he’ll get it back with Cinderella Man, which comes from the writer of SBS’s Save the Last Dance for Me, Jo Yoon-young, and the director of MBC’s Good Person. Cinderella Man refers to the fairy tale, not the boxing movie, as it is described as a trendy drama following the tale of the “Prince and the Pauper.”
In it, a young man who makes his living making clothes for room-salon hostesses in his Dongdaemun market stall (read: cheap and unlucrative) has the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to change lives with the young successor to a top fashion company. Kwon — get this! — plays both roles.
(Puahahaha! I love these “stranger is inexplicably identical with another stranger and they switch lives” storylines! Because this is a kdrama, either we will be forced to suspend our disbelief or they’ll turn out to be twins. Either way, it is so, so cheesy.)
As with so many of these announcements, the ink has not yet been signed on the contracts but Kwon is close to being finalized. His female costar has yet to be selected, but given Kwon’s high profile, a drama production source says, “We’re contacting top actresses who will match well with Kwon Sang-woo.”
Cinderella Man is looking for a slot on MBC’s April 2009 schedule.

I refreshed the page hoping to find a new article, and my wish was granted =] Didn't Kwon Sang Woo say that it was just a rumor that he dropped the movie with Ha ji won. (i'm hoping it's just a rumor. I really want to see them together again). The plot sounds a bit... unbelievable and ridiculous but that's what I originally though about "Who are you" as well. "Who are you" ended up being a pretty good drama though so I won't say that I'm doubtful about this. I just hope the leading lady isn't someone as annoying as lee yeo won..

So, my first thought after reading "Cinderella Man" was, "wait...that's about boxing...is korea taking revenge for all of hollywood's crappy remakes?!" then I kept reading. And it's NOT about boxing. And I'm relieved, since I like Kwon Sang Woo and I don't like boxing.

So much cheeeeeese! lmao.
This is not a storyline I would imagine Kwon to choose but I'm so glad to see him far away from the melodramatic stuff he's been putting out. Let's hope something doesn't happen to this series either.

BTW I love your title of this article LOL :D
now about the story ROFL... when I heard the name I thought it's about a man who will be w/ Cinderella (I mean a Cinderella's man) lol... but it turned out that this story is about a Cinderella male version LMFAO :D and of course the two KSW will fall in love w/ the same girl, but of course our hero KSW will win her because he deserve her more than his rival KSW LMBO.
gahhh I think I'll be laughing whenever I watch this drama lol.

@selva:
yeah, it'd be so so funny to see kwon sang woo vs. kwon sang woo especially in love, but hey, at least he's good looking enough to sustain screen interest. :P

Maybe it's the way you write it, Javabeans but the plot sounds good already! I've been waiting for him to do something since Cruel Love ended. I will be waiting for this one with anticipation.
By the way, the title made me think a little Kwon is on the way ; )

If it's shown on MBC, I most likely won't get to see it until Jun or Jun 09 cos we don't get MBC here in Singapore. And Jun seems like an awfully long way off.

Uhuh...the storyline sounds cheesy alright, but it could be one of those 'it's sooo bad that it's good!" type plots. The thing is, I really miss seeing Kwong Sang Woo in comedies! He has great crying skills and all but sometimes people forget that he's equally good at making you laugh. :)

I really don't want to get my hopes too high. i've been disappointed when his last two projects were cancelled. I will rejoice when he has started shooting for this. i would love to see him in a comedic role.
