Movie veteran, theater newb
by javabeans
(My beloved) Lee Jung-jae‘s been in show biz for fifteen years now, starring in films like Typhoon, Oh Brothers and Il Mare, but he’s just now taking his first foray into theater.
In December, he takes the titular role in Hamlet (the play, not the musical version). The play will perform at his own alma mater, Dongguk University’s Lee Hae-rang Theater, and is open to the public.
Lee began rehearsals at the end of October at Dongguk, which marks his return to the public eye following a hiatus after his 2007 MBC action drama series Air City wrapped. Next up: the release of his upcoming film Disturbance in Her Barroom [1724 기방난동사건], a period movie billed as an action comedy and co-starring Kim Ok-bin (Over the Rainbow, Dasepo Naughty Girls).
Hamlet will play near Christmas-time and run for four days.

Interesting... so I assume it's a Hamlet in Korean right? Do they also modify the scenery and stuff (e.g. ancient Korea instead of England?)

I'm very happy for Lee Jung-jae.
From long time, I greatly appreciate his act and I believe that this new experience is an important moment for his career and for his human dimension.
The Hamlet of Shakespeare will show to all his fans his great talent performer.
Good luck, Lee Jung-jae.

"yah, how can a man look so good? Breathtaking, I must say."
Very, very few actors wear clothes as well as My Man. He's masculine without the bullshit, Rat Pack without the misogny. Lee Jung Jae's a lover not a fighter. But he's also a fighter, so don't get any ideas. ;)
Hamlet's a beast though. I don't think I've seen a TV/movie performance of the Hamlet character that I've really liked from the last 15 years. (though bless Ethan Hawke's "thinking California, feeling Minnesota" heart for trying!!!) Well, except for this one.
