Restoring masterpieces in Insadong Scandal
by javabeans
Actress/singer/lingerie entrepreneur Uhm Jung-hwa joins Kim Rae-won in the upcoming movie Insadong Scandal, which is set in the art world and takes a behind-the-scenes look at art restoration and reproduction.
Although she’s taken on numerous acting projects in her 15-year career (previous screen roles include the drama Wife and the films For Horowitz and Singles), this is her first villain role as an ambitious collector.
Meanwhile, Kim Rae-won’s “cool-headed” character specializes in the restoration of valuable paintings, and the story unfolds around a hidden masterpiece of a painter who lived in the Joseon era.
For the past month, Kim has been studying art restoration and reproduction for the role to familiarize himself with the topic and lend an air of authenticity to his character. The film is set to start filming this month.
I’m… not sure about the pairing, but I won’t write it off immediately. Kim Rae-won tends to have good chemistry with his co-stars, and even if she wasn’t great in the awful movie, I keep remembering how she tried, dammit, to have chemistry with Daniel Henney in Seducing Mr. Perfect. She failed, but it wasn’t her fault; the juxtaposition of the two made her seem like Oscar material in comparison.

Oh dang, I was never crazy about UJH but after seeing the hell she had to go thru trying to inject some life into the "relationship" she had with DHenney in Seducing Mr Perfect my respect for her increased 100 fold. You could practically see her TRYING to have chemistry with him.
Premise sounds interesting, dabbling in the arts sounds like a sophisticated setting for some romance. And who doesn't like a little mystery?

yay looks like UJH is growing out her hair! I HATED that movie Seducing Mr. Perfect-it was boring and acting with Daniel Henney was like hanging out with a slab of stone. I loved in her Singles though. And I can't believe how busy Kim Rae Won is. First his drama just ended -a drama that involved a specialized profession- and now he's on the way to studying art for his new role. I want to see her and her brother, Uhm Tae Woong, in the same movie/drama one-day. They look so much alike, it's so cute!

uhm jung-hwa's always been pretty good - i actually thought her career took a nosedive with henney (more because of the empty movie, than his inexperience.)
her older work is more challenging for her (Marriage is crazy thing, For Horowiz.)
i can so see her as a Cruella De Vil type villainess...just a fantasy hehe :D

I shouldn't admit this (I know it's not a good movie), but I...kind of liked Seducing Mr. Perfect?

You're right. I was so hyped about the movie with Daniel Henney... but I was so disappointed by the lack of their chemistry! I think DH was really really dry... no facial expression whatsoever. But both UJH and KRW are great actors so let's see what they can pull off~! =)

sounds a little boring like When It's At Night. UJH is actually a good actress. i saw UJH on YDH's Love Letter, & Daniel Henney was there. i would have thought Daniel would be able to speak a couple of sentences in Korean by now, but he just mainly spoke English, not adding anything new to the conversation except that he & UJH are BFF, then just repeating what was said in Korean in English.

not gonna lie, i thoroughly enjoyed Seducing Mr. Perfect, regardless of Mr. Henney's wooden stool performance. UJH has a knack for playing the modern city girl archetype (I loved Singles, and Changing partners to a lesser degree). It'll be interesting to see what she can do outside her level of comfort. Really, she's been playing the same roles for the past few years.

Uhm Jung Hwa actually is a pretty good actress and I blame the lack of chemistry on Daniel Henney, pretty boy who cannot act his way out of a paper bag with a pair of scissors. And well hi, Kim Rae Won ^_^

hmm, this sounds quite similar to the series 'when night comes' with kim sun ah and lee dong gun. hopefully this movie has an intriguing and tightly-paced plotline-the summary doesn't sound very interesting though.

I agree with Cherry I think she did have a nose surgery -- it's not hard to determine whether they did or not you can sort of tell! too bad cause some of the actresses would probably look better with their own natural look or nose than going under the knife! i also hope this drama won't be like into the night or seducing mr perfect which i found both boring. I didn't even continue watching into the night altho i was looking f/ward to it when i first heard that Lee Dong & Kim Sun Ah would be paired but it was kinda disappointing! what about that latest of Lee Dong Wok who's one of my favorites since My Girl...Bittersweet Life awwwwh it's a disaster! why don't they choose a good role or script for that matter?
