Ohn Joo-wan volunteers for early service
by javabeans
And the guys keep dropping off to enlist. This time the enlistee is going off a little earlier than most entertainers (while normal civilians tend to get it over with in their early twenties, a lot of celebrities, loath to interrupt career momentum, push it off as long as possible and we tend to see them go off when they’re 28 or 29).
Actor Ohn Joo-wan (My Mighty Princess, Chosun Police, City of Violence) is only 25 years old, but already he is volunteering for military enlistment in the air force.
His management said, “Ohn Joo-hwan has always talked about wanting to serve in the military, and after deliberating, he decided to do his active duty this year… Joining the air force has always been his dream, so he’s received his physical exam and been deemed fit to serve.”
Ohn had suffered a few on-the-job injuries, including a burst eardrum while filming the swimming-related The Peter Pan Formula and a fall from a horse while shooting Chosun Police. He reportedly worked extra hard to get back into top shape in order to enlist as first-class status. He also spent a lot of time listening to the advice of older entertainers who’d already returned from active duty, such as Yoon Kye-sang.
He said, “I won’t be able to see you for the next two years, but please don’t forget me, and I will return in more projects as a better person, a better man, and a better actor.”
Ohn Joo-hwan will enlist tomorrow, on October 27. His most recent film, My Mighty Princess, co-starred Shin Mina and Yoo Gun and opened in June.

Ohn Joo- Won was so adorable in My Mighty Princess that I wouldn't have been disappointed if Shin Mina ended up with him instead of Yoo Gun.
I hope he returns safely after his military service.

Oh wow, this guy is a rarity nowadays. A male star fulfilling his military duty by actually going to the military?? I mean, not just the mandatory one month of training, but completing the rest of the two years in the real military and not some office desk job or those ridiculous, special "entertainment" vectors.

awww.. im sad to see another good one going. but im happy to hear that he is really wanting to fulfill his duty. i think it be cool if he gets to work on the air force stuff. heck maybe he likes active duty. i dont belittle those who get assigned different offices either. because heck i think those are important too. like helping out others and what not. its helpful still id think. :) good for ohn joo wan, i hope he comes back healthy and safe. more projects from him too.

Aww...he was so hot and cute in My Mighty Princess....will miss him. Air force....interesting choice....at least it won't be boring, like sitting at a desk all day sifting papers. *sigh*

He is a great actor. He has done a terrific job in My Mighty Princess and the Peter Pan Formula. I have not seen the other. I wish him luck and await his return to the screen.
Peace

I became interested in this guy only because he's Yoon Kye-sang's closest friend, but I do think he's a talented entertainer. Good luck OJW

For all the people who are complaining about Korean actors taking it easy in the military...I ask you why don't you ask why American celebrities would do if they had to give up two years of their career for military service. I think if your from a country that does not require military service out of you then you should just shut up!
