Help a reader out: Seoul recommendations
by javabeans
Reader Sheryl is heading to Seoul soon and wrote in to ask for recommendations on great places to visit. Since it’s been a while since I’ve been to Seoul, I thought I’d open up the question to everyone here. Help a reader out!
She writes:
Any recommendations (sights, food places, random music cafes) for a first time tourist? Despite being a first timer in Seoul, I’m actually looking out for the not-so-tourist places to visit.
I think the biggest plan is trying to get on The Love Letter with Yoon Do Hyun for the measly 5 days I will be there.. hahaha. Historical sites are already all over the internet so I’m trying to find more I suppose not-so-tourist-like places I can visit to kinda see different faces of Seoul. I largely would like to eat some good local food, do some good CD shopping (and random stuff) and hopefully, visit a good open mic session. And oh yeah, stalk the SM Entertainment building.. hahaha.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
C’mon, I know you know the answers!

I recommend LaFesta and West Dome
these both are in walking distance and they are rival in shopping.
You can find hat stores, lots and lots of clothing etc.

Wow I kind of love this thread. But I'm glad it wasn't up before this summer when I left for Korea otherwise I would've been running around trying to see and do more than I could do.
Everything has pretty much been covered, so I don't have much to add.
While you're at Insadong be sure to look for Ssamziegil. It's quite touristy but its got all these cute very photogenic spots. When I went, they had some outdoor art exhibitions up.
I second eating kkultarae at Insadong (that stuff is freaking addicting) and also... look for the ice cakee man!

When I first read this post in October, 2008, I didn't know when I would be able to visit Seoul. And now, my time has finally come! I'm so excited to go this August and make use of some of the suggestions posted here! Thanks for all the suggestions :)

Anybody have a list of places to go for kdrama fans? HAHA! ^^ I believe many kdrama fans would like to visit the coffee shop in Coffee Prince, Secret Garden's beautiful house and the shopping centre owned by Hyun Bin, or the telephone booth where our leads take cover from the rain in 'Queen In Hyun's Man'. I only went to 'Winter Sonata''s filming garden which is one of the tourist attractions. It is very beautiful!

Any recommendations about temples or rock gardens seen on some of the Korean dramas and about Jeju island?
