Choi Jin-shil found dead, indicators point to suicide
by javabeans
The beautiful and talented Choi Jin-shil (age 40, most recently of The Last Scandal of My Life) has been found dead in her home in Seoul.
According to police, her body was discovered at 6:15 am on October 2 and the reasons for her passing are under investigation.
Police said, “We received a report that Ms. Choi had committed suicide and arrived to confirm her death.”
Another officer: “This morning, we received a report from her family that she had hanged herself in the shower stall.”
Choi had recently gone through some rough times supporting her friend Jung Sun-hee, widow of deceased Ahn Jae-hwan, and had battled rumors making the recent rounds that said she supposedly had lent him money, which she roundly denied. But what a shock — following a messy divorce with baseball player Jo Sung-min, her two small children, ages 5 and 7, were under her sole care. Note: this is very new information, so reports are bound to change in the coming days.
OMG. 🙁

OMG O.O total shock attack, couldn't recognize her name from the title until I saw her picture. It's the main actress from Last Scandal. Yah why oh why are these happening so much in Korea? Suicide is never the again to any problems. That's not even trying to help solve anything. Really, these actors/actresses need to get some counseling. It's so sad to hear or find out about your favorite actors/actresses commit suicide or die so young.
RIP to all those who has passed away this year. T T

Some of the details are trickling out (you can read over at Soompi.) Her lengthy bout with depression . . .Being visibly distraught during a CM shoot (prior day) . .. Phone and Cyworld messages she left behind . . . And some of the mourning photos are coming in. Just so sad. :(

Oh wow. I'm completely shocked that a star like her would do something like this. She looked so happy and so did not look the type that would commit suicide. I really do wonder what drove her into suicide though.. I just don't understand why she would want to commit suicide just because Jung Sun Hee's diseased husband had a debt. Also, why would she commit suicide just because she got divorced? A lot of people have divorced and that surely hasn't driven them to suicide..Maybe she loved him. I don't know. Too many k celebs have commited suicide. Not good. Korean celebrities should set a good example to the public, and not think that sucide is the answer. *sighs I won't be surprised if I find out that another k celeb has commited suicide. It's too common these days. It's like the trend.
RIP CJS you will be greatly missed by your fans

I'm still in shock, cann't believe this happens. I hope celebrities won't touch the internet when something happening to them, because sometimes netizents are so mean and rude, celebrites will get more pressure and feel extremely bad with the harsh, rude comments .
RIP Choi Jin Shil!

OMG, that's so sad!
@Belleza
"That said, I may be completely wrong about this issue with Choi Jin Shil. But I resent any intimations about a lack of personal faith or a lack of consideration for her children."
Agreed. And besides, it's not like we (as in "we" viewers, people outside the celebrities' inner circle of friends and family) know what's really going on. Nobody can *tell* what was crossing a person's mind before she/he committed suicide, what she/he was going through... So I just can't understand people who're so easily
judgmental or prejudiced (And I'm SO not talking about you, Belleza!) about people, celebrities or otherwise, who committed such an act.

It seems like something like this happens on a monthly basis, and when you consider that these reports are only of celebrities, I can't possibly imagine how many regular people commit suicide in Korea.
I'm not going to get into the argument of whether her suicide is justifiable or not, but doesn't Korea have some sort of mental health services to help sufferers of deep depression make it through extremely difficult times?

"I can’t possibly imagine how many regular people commit suicide in Korea."
Both Japan and Korea's suicide rates are among the highest in the world. 25 years ago, neither country had anything approaching what it is like today. So, usually, it's subscribed to a combination of clashing generational values and dwindling money related to declining economies. It's not just Japan and Korea though. Some years ago, China had the highest suicide rate among women in the world, and Hong Kong was in the top 5 as well.
While America's suicide rate is overall low, it's disturbingly high in the Asian American community. Overall, Asian Americans have the 2nd highest suicide rate among all ethnicities in the United States. Asian American women from 15-24 have the highest suicide rate among all women (racial and age brackets) in the United States.

NOOO!!!
It can't be!!!
You know, while watching news at the other network (well, I'm from the Philippines, and anyone here from my country knows that...), when, shock comes to shock, a headline announces that the star from "A Rosy Life" was found dead...I was thinking "No, it can't be Betsy (Philippine version of Maeng Sun-yi; her character)!!!". Then, when the showbiz segment came up, it really confirmed that it was she...
NOOOOO!!!
UBER MAJOR LOSS!!! I mean, my mom still hasn't finished watching "The Last Scandal of My Life"...and here is this bad news, not to mention Lee Eon's death just months ago...
Also, to cap it up, Jeong Da-bin's suicide was also reported here...
Can't believe it...I'm going to blog this... (Link: http://lanzrovi.multiply.com/journal/item/57/Life_is_not_a_Bed_of_Roses)

Aigoo…what’s up with this year? It’s so sad to hear that it’s common to see suicide celebrity news so frequently and recent. And I truly liked this actress, I thought she was always cheerful and hilarious especially in her role from “Last Scandal”. Just hope that she’s in peace wherever she may be and I give my consolodence to her family and her closest friends, Shinae and her costars.
I was even looking forward to finishing the "Last Scandal" series along with "Strongest Chil Woo" but now it might take a while until I'll be able to watch these loved tragic stars.

@cattleya: go preach somewhere else
i don't understand why netizens criticized her for lending money to a friend. let's just say she did lend money to him, that only helped him. why is she suddenly labeled as a loan shark? did anyone see her threatening her friend to return the money? those who accused her need some kind of education, preferably morality courses.
r.i.p. choi jin shil...you hurt enough to end your life knowing your two beloved children would have to continue living on without a mother. it must have hurt that much. hope it's peaceful wherever you are; but wherever you are, please watch after them. don't let your bastard ex husband get custody of them nor access to your property. he's a greedy pig. don't let him take advantage of your death!

CJS is under depression after divorce, she is not really at fault, but there will still have stain in her life, cos SATAN stole her heart and misled her to a point to die. i hope that even she's dead, hope that she will have peace in her spiritual body. i wish to even pray that no other Christian will ever happen this again..
