An internet sensation aspires to conquer the screen
by javabeans
“In the face of love, these four men and women have no strategy, no experience, no courage, and no counterstrategy, but embark on a special romance in Soonjung Manhwa.”
This is how the new movie is being touted, and I’ve chosen not to translate the title because while “soonjung manhwa” literally means a “pure comic book,” it’s also the Korean term for what is more commonly known as “shoujo manga.” Here’s the Wikipedia definition of shoujo:
“[M]anga marketed to a female audience roughly between the ages of 10 and 18… [which] covers many subjects in a variety of narrative and graphic styles… often with a strong focus on human and romantic relationships and emotions.”
In any case, Soonjung Manwha has finished filming, and it seems like just the type of thing I’d go for. The movie is an adaptation of the internet manhwa which became a hit sensation, drawing in more than 60 million pageviews and building up an enthusiastic netizen audience.
The film stars Yoo Ji-tae (Oldboy) in the lead role, starring with Chae Jung-ahn (Coffee Prince), Lee Yeon-hee (East of Eden), and Kang In of Super Junior. Manning the camera is director Ryu Jang-ha, the writer for One Fine Spring Day and assistant director for Christmas in August
There’s a reason to be optimistic about the film with its sizable built-in fanbase from the internet original, plus its four good-looking stars (with two older and more experienced actors — Yoo, Chae — to balance out the other two hot young things, who target the younger market). But we won’t be able to find out for sure until the film opens on November 27.

Worth mentioning that the comic strip focuses on May/December relationships. Chae Jung Ahn and Kang In will play out a couple in this film, as will Lee Yeon Hee (who plays a high school student) and Yoo Ji-tae.
I really should hate Lee Yeon Hee. So Ji Sub, Binnie, Song Seun Heon, Kang Dong Wan, Gong Yoo, and Jung Il Woo. (Can't forget Dennis Oh!! Dennis actually says at one point in East of Eden "She is my Queen!" I'm sorry, not even Pacino could redeem that line.) And she's not even old (haha, work with me here .. . . ) enough to drink in the States.
But then again, she probably hates everybody too.

i hope this one works out. i think none of Gang Full manhwa that have been made as film have been quite successful for some reason.

A manhwa adaptation! Can't wait to see this! The cast seems pretty good and yea, Lee Yeon Hee's acting still hasn't managed to convince me yet that she's good... But she's still young... Hope this movie will be funny... :)

@marz,
"kang in acting? wow. that’s a first for me."
In fact, Choi Si Won was originally going to do this part (thus a full 10 years apart in age), but he had other commitments.
"just probably all the hot guys. but i gotta admit. lee yeon hee is hecka pretty."
It says something about the male leads of her career, when the rather large age gap between her and Song Seung Heon doesn't really seem to register.
I confess -- I actually like Lee Yeon Hee. Acting needs work, but she has a phenomenal relationship with the camera. Every emotional nuance is conveyed with eerie, eerie clarity onscreen. It's something you have or don't have. If her acting skills develop properly, she's going to be scary good. Still though, she's 20 years old!!
Song Hye Kyo: "You know, people said I was really young when we were cast. But Lee Yeon Hee? Shouldn't you be her uncle?"
Song Seung Heon: "Hahaha. I am beautiful. Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"
Mirror: "Hate to say this Hye Kyo, but after your mushroom haircut and your choice in casual clothes, Song Seung Heon is officially prettier than you! BTW me and the mirrors at Hogwarts School are totally rooting for your comeback! Aja Song Hye Kyo!"
SSH: "Damn I'm good looking. Damn!"
Lee Yeon Hee: "Mister Seung Heon, can you drive me to the mall? I need to buy the new SNSD album!!"
SHK: "I mean, really!!! And stop fixing your hair. It's fine!"
SSH: "I am just so fine!! What!!"
Mirror: "What!!"
SSH: "What!!"
Mirror: "YEAH!!!"
SSH: "So fine!"

I never knew Kang In acted! I hope he can act but of the four of them, he's the only one that has never acted before, right? Anyways, I 'm looking forward to seeing LYH in this movie. She hasn't been in a been a movie for awhile now since My Love so I'm really excited for this movie. Even though she's in EOE, I just can't enough of her! XD The more LYH, the happier I am^^

"i heard snsd sooyoung is also casted in this film."
Hopefully in a triangle between Chae Jung Ahn and Kang In. Yeah, that sounds really wrong (in Chae's situation I would have WAY too much pride to go "New York" on a 18-year old girl. She wouldn't even be allowed to talk to the hand, hmph!!) but the alternative would be a triangle between Yoo Ji Tae and high school characters LYH and Sooyoung. At that point, they might as well call the movie "R Kelly Manhwa."

NOO~~!
Why LYH?!
I'm sorry but she can't act and it's already beens so long since she first came out and it's not improving so why believe that it is?
*sighs*
She CAN'T ACT . . . . ! I don't know why they keep on casting her.
Oh! I know why, she's in SM! >=[

LYH's acting definitely improves since her first movie and she's proving that in EOE.
@Jess, what does LYH being of SM have anything to do with it? Did you ever think that producers/directors are casting her in their movies because they think she has potential and that she can act? Probably not right? I'm sure a person like you only knows and likes to criticiize others but please learn to shut your mouth when you don't need to open it!

Leave LYH alone!
I think she's doing pretty well for herself. She's definitely improving as an actress and I totally think she's doing a great job on EOE too. She getting to act with older actors and I think that has helped her in becoming a better actress. I seriously can't wait to see this movie. I hope this movie doesn't has a similar ending to A Millionaire's First Love! Hopefully there's be less tears and a lot of laughter. XD
