An extension pending for Beethoven Virus
by javabeans
No doubt MBC is loath to relinquish one of its few successes in a pretty drab year. They are now in talks to extend the Wednesday-Thursday classical-music drama Beethoven Virus, which is performing well at first place in its slot.
An MBC rep explained, “We’re talking of extending the series by two or three episodes. We still have yet to settle the issue with the actors.” If the extension is greenlit, the drama (which has aired half of its intended 16-episode run) may finish with a final count of 19 episodes instead.
Note also that only one episode will air next week; a soccer game will push the 11th episode to October 16 (instead of Wednesday the 15th).
Personally, I usually take the stance that extensions are not a good idea, but I’m behind on Beethoven Virus. What do you think — woohoo, or booo?

I've only been reading the recaps, so I don't really care one way or another. Though, usually, I wish they'd just leave them the way they are.

i usually dont like extensions..
but i think that depends on the drama itself.
sometimes to wrap things up better and not rush
i see a one or two ep extension would be good.
i saw some that made it good.
i hope this will be good for BV.,
i think a one or two ep extension will do good
i just hope things will be consistent

It better not have any effect on the quality, that's all I'm saying... remember when Goong and Full House were extended four episodes and turned into dragging wrecks? I really don't want that to happen to BV.
Otherwise, it's just more work for me. :D
Thanks for the news!!

Full House was extended by four episodes? I always thought it was initially slated for 16 episodes. And it certainly did not turn into a dragging wreck :)

Woohoo for now.
But I hate to agree with you on the typical extended drama. They better make the extension work.

what now! i agree MBC is making it unduly difficult on Sevenses (lol), although it has a big enough cast and subplots to stretch over additional episodes. it's still not a good idea to drag out for ratings' sake (remember park shin-yang just lost all interest and energy in the extension of Money's Warfare!)

I haven't seen this one yet but I'm definitely hoping to. I think a good writer will/can keep an episode from dragging

When his previous project Fashion 70s got extended, it caused problems with actor contracts and with how the story ended. I'm not sure if Lee Jae Gyu wants to go through that again, especially since his style require longer editing cycles and production setups. I think BV is going to struggle to the finish line anyway, in terms of getting the finale actually done and all.
MBC will probably do the same with East of Eden (80 episodes of "Hyun! Dong Wong! Hyun! Dong Wong! Arrrgghh!!!" Can't wait) They're probably waiting on the show's response after World and Stop premiere.
Frankly, I'm still shocked that Beethoven Virus is #1 against Kingdom and Painter. That was supposed to be the darkhorse in that lineup.

I've not actually watched this series myself, but you know what those companies like to do to successes >>;;
They drag them on and on and on. Dear, LORD!
It always pays a toll on the quality.

extensions don't belong anywhere other than in my hair. they usually ARENT drama friendly. but even so, fingers crossed that it doesnt make BV suck.

I'm not really into extension because I already think this story could have been wrapped up in 10 episodes not 16. and now they're making it 19!!!!
