A potential comeback for Hallyu’s Queen Goddess of Melodrama
by javabeans
After a rather disappointing “comeback” last year with the overproduced (and under-thought-out) action drama Air City, Hallyu (and sob) queen Choi Ji-woo just might be back on television by the end of the year.
December will see the start to a new SBS series, Oh! My Goddess!, to be produced by Olive Nine. (Note: Some sources talk about this like a done deal; others say that Choi is almost set to appear in the drama; and others talk of her as the most likely prospect. For what it’s worth.)
In the drama, Choi’s (would-be) role is Lee Mari, a top actress who’s bombarded with romantic advances by four men. Those men (as yet uncast) vary across the board in character and background: one is a Korean literature graduate student with aspirations of becoming a writer, another a famous photographer, one a third-generation chaebol (sigh, that trope won’t die), and the last a young top exec at a media corporation.
The series is said to be nearing contract finalizations. Writer will be Kang Eun-jung of Lovers in Paris, and Oh! My Goddess! will follow Moon Geun-young’s sageuk drama Painter of Wind.

This sounds like a romantic comedy, not the sob sob dramas I'm used to seeing her in. Wonder how this will turn out.
The term "comeback' is a little hyped up and puts pressure on the stars ... a comeback can be the fourth time in a year and its still considered a comeback =T

belleza, that was my first thought too. But the plot doesn't really sound like the anime -- i wondered if they just stole the title. Not that you can steal titles, but...

"But the plot doesn’t really sound like the anime "
Kinda a shame though.
Keichi: "Bellidandi, your nose is divine!"
Belldandi: "Thank you. On our 18th birthday, our God Xenu blesses us with our nose. In fact, Xenu blesses us quite frequently when our . . .Goddessness needs another boost."

i can't stand any of her melodramas. maybe she would do better in comedy. i think i saw a pic of her at an event & she looked wasted.

so this OH! MY GODDESS is the supposedly LOVERS IN AZUKA that will be written by one of the writers of LIParis. and this is also the one that Olive 9 will produce and will be collaborated with Japan.
why they suddenly changed their mind of changing LOVERS IN AZUKA into OH! MY GODDESS? oh i wish luck to CJW.

Wow, I thought that it was going to be based on the anime, too. First thoughts after reading the words "Oh! My Goddess!" 'another drama based on an anime? hm. ...intereeeeesting." but then the plot wasn't similar, really. which is unfortunate in its own way.

And in fact, OMG was loosely adapted for (I think) a (99?) Banjun, where Sun Yu Ri got to play the Goddess. I think she was still in Finkl; pre-Autumn Song Hye Kyo was in that episode too.

IMHO her acting talent and her looks is nothing to rave about . despite of her huge popularity, i think there are quite a number of other actresses who definitely top her in the looks and especially the acting department. the thing i like about her though is that she always looks regally dignified.

i find her plastic face intolerable to look at. same goes for her weepy "acting". she is the most over-rated celebrity in hallyu. her and bae young-joon.

I'm very excited about this news. Choi Ji Woo is a very versatile actress proven by the dramas & movies she had done. She's not just a pretty face, she has great acting talent proven by her several acting awards. She done different genres in TV dramas & movies such as First Love (the highest rated Korean drama, her part in this drama was not melodramatic), romantic comedies like The Adventure of Ms. Park, the Romantic President, Mr. Duke, First Kiss & Everybody Has a Secret. Action/romance in Air City & No Where to Hide; horror in movie The Hole. Ofcourse her three most popular dramas in which she won Best actress awards were Beautiful Days, Winter Sonata & Stairway to Heaven (top of the charts). There are so many more to name, but not enough space. She & Bae Yong Joon were the initiator of Hallyu/Korean Wave. She's beautiful & talented that lot s of women are permanently green with envy .
She & Bae Yong Joon will voice over their characters in the anime version of Winter Sonata. I just hope this new drama will go through as planned..

"She & Bae Yong Joon will voice over their characters in the anime version of Winter Sonata."
From what I understand, the Winter Sonata cartoon will be a mostly original story (i.e. Joon-Sang during New York.) So, I'm not sure if this is a prequel or sequel. If it's the former, I'm not sure how they can write in Yu-Jin (since JS would have been with Che Lin), really.
"Choi Ji Woo is a very versatile actress proven by the dramas & movies she had done. "
She's the Michael Phelps of tearjerkers, no doubt. ;)

The anime version of Winter Sonata is about what happened in the three years Jun Sang & Yu Jin got separated & Jun Sang came back to South Korea blind. & also what happened after they met again in the house that Jun Sang had built based on Yu Jin's design. So, I should say a "sequel".
