Taking a gamble with Tazza
by javabeans
New stills are out for upcoming gambling drama Tazza, featuring its main cast: Han Ye-seul (above), Kim Min-joon (below left), and Jang Hyuk, getting into trouble as always (below center and right).
The stills were taken from a shoot for the title sequence at the drama’s gambling-den set, which is located in Kyunggi-do. A rep from production company Olive Nine stated that the lead actors showcased newly learned gambling skills in their aim to come off as genuine high-rollers: “In particular, Jang Hyuk and Kim Min-joon took on their intense action scenes themselves without using doubles, and even earned applause from the crew.”
Tazza is based on a manhwa by Heo Young-man, which also provided the basis for the 2006 film of the same name starring Kim Hye-soo, although producers point out that the drama will diverge from the movie version, adding several new characters into the mix.
The series will take SBS’s Monday-Tuesday slot currently occupied by Gourmet starting September 8. I can’t say I’m too thrilled about the drama, but I’ll admit it sure looks pretty.

If it wasn't being pit against East of Eden, this one may have decent legs. Seems like they're both hitting the same demographic though, and MBC's going all in with Eden.
I may just watch this if Kim Min Joon shaves. Oh and if Jang Hyuk teaches some cholos how to Tae Kwon Do or shoots random white dudes with AK47s, I'm totally there yo!

I like projects with high production values and this one certainly looks very slick. I'm just hoping that unlike 'All In', the focus of the series is gonna be on gambling rather than romance.
I will wager that this series will be more successful than East of Eden ratings wise. Anyone want to call my bet? The loser has to do the 'Three Bears' dance and post the video up on YouTube. ;)

I'm really rather tempted to watch this although I'm not a fan of Jang Hyuk. Hmm...Kim Min-joon is looking pretty good. I wonder if one could actually learn some gambling moves by watching t his. :o

I found myself attracted to this one more than the 50 episodes, mega budget, stars studded East of Eden
Hope Han Ye Seul can pull off Maddam Jung character successfully.

"Hope Han Ye Seul can pull off Maddam Jung character successfully."
Worth reiterating that her character is new and not Madame Jung (i.e. Ye Seul doesn't have to fill out Hye Soo's ample uhhh shoes.) Probably more sassy than sexy.

It would be a disaster for MBC if that were to happen. They really need this show to be a monster hit to salvage 2008. Eden has a one or two week headstart over Tazza. If it generates bad word of mouth, Tazza might be able to eat into the slot.
Still looking forward to East of Eden though. If there's a real sense of time and place (and if the backstory covers industry or political evolution) then I'll be all over the show. But now I'm confused whether SSH is supposed to be with Lee Dae Hae or Lee Yeon Hee.

The movie was actually quite solid, so if they "borrow" some cues from that, it should be decent. Fingers crossed.

I hope they'll just reinterpret the manhwa, rather than do a formal remake. Gourmet and Le Grande Chef kinda worked that way. Similarities here and there, but you can enjoy each pretty much as unique works. Next year, we'll see remakes of Friend, Shiri (i.e. Iris.), maybe Open City.

Yeah, dressing like Lee Hyori while deep frying chicken *sounds* hot, but well you know . . .

Interesting!
50 episodes? Seriously? HUH.
But Kim Min Joon and Jang Hyuk? I might want to watch this for the sake of yummy male actors. ;)

I am actually looking forward to this drama because of Han Ye-seul. She's so darn pretty! I was very disappointed after they confirmed the leading+supporting man. T_T I am not a fan of Jang Hyuk (hopefully his char is nothing like the role he was playing in Robbers where all he ever does is get into fights and getting beaten up) and Kim Min Joon. But I will still check this series out, hopefully KST is still planning to sub it. I agree, I hope that they will focus more on the card games, rather than romance, but we'll see.

"50 episodes? Seriously? HUH."
East of Eden will be 50 episodes. Tazza will be the standard 20. In fact, after Tazza finishes airing, SBS is set to air Dr. Stop. So, officially to Belleza, Tazza is "that show in between me and the Return of So Ji Sub." So, Tazza cannot go more than 20 episodes. If it does, Belleza will cry like Choi Ji Woo, like Kobe if SHK's show gets cancelled.
I think I feel the opposite with the casting. To me, since coming back from the military, Jang Hyuk's really honed in his wolfish eyes, and hungry acting style. And few actors do the "look fabulous, act fabulous" style like Kim Min Joon. Both men are well cast here. Ye Seul to me is the weak link, but she could break through here.
