Release date set for Ninja Assassin, kind of
by javabeans
On August 30, Rain attended the wedding of a rep for his company, JTune Entertainment, at Lotte Hotel, so naturally the press took the chance to ask him about his career plans. Rain spoke of his second Hollywood outing (having previously acknowledged that the first try, Speed Racer, was “a failure”): “Ninja Assassin has been set for a worldwide release in March 2009.”
The reporters picking up this story note that this is the “first concrete news of its release date.” Which isn’t exactly true. Sorry to tell you, Rain, but the Interwebs has already known for a while, and it contradicts you: Various other sites (Imdb, Wikipedia) list the film for a January 16, 2009, premiere. (If you Google for yourselves, every English-language source lists that January date, although I’m sure it only takes one person getting it wrong to spread misinformation.) And it’s not that Korea gets a different premiere date; the film is slated for a simultaneous worldwide release, according to Rain.
So which is it, January or March? Uh, someone want to get his new Hollywood agents to put in a call and make sure they’re on the same page with their star?
In any case, Rain is busy at work on his full-length “Asia special” album, as well as planning a “comeback show” to air on MBC. He leaves for the U.S. in September to do post-production ADR (recording) work on Ninja Assassin, and there have even been rumors he’s considering a new drama role. (For a while, there were whisperings that he’d co-star in a drama with Jeon Ji-hyun, but those are mere rumors.)

I'm sorry but Speed Racer was actually a great movie. It was colorful and it brought me back to when I would watch it with my dad every Saturday because he grew up with the show as well. I hope Rain's next movie won't be seen as a "failure" thought.

lol. It doesn't really matter when it's released. I hope it does well though! Speed Racer was really good, but I think it only appealed to a minority of people being so much like an a anime etc etc. Hopefully this film may appeal to people and be just as good as Speed Racer.
I'm definitly gonna support rain though, despite his bad english. Like Shinta I will watch it whenever they release it. I like Rain, especially as an actor. He's working so hard to take over the world I feel I should support him :P
ps. Your article on Rain and the glass ceiling was one of the best I've read so far. I totally agree with your opinions!! :D Interesting to read the comments too. : )

Lacoste polo shirt with a bow tie? The hat,the top and the watch look pretty cool and he has to go and ruin it with the bow tie. Rain is always trying too hard. Ever the overachiever! Relax, Rain.
Speed Rain was deemed a failure because it didn't become a huge blockbuster.

^ it doens't matter when the movie comes out, but it matters if the main star doesn't know when it comes out.

speed racer wasn't a failure only because it didn't make money. it also got panned by critics.

Critics hardly matter for this kind of genre. The movie didn't work because it was outdated. A film based on 60's Anime is pretty hard to sell to the younger generation. Technically , this movie was pretty cool.

I try and I try to like Rain, but in the end there's just something about him. I think it's his acting.

OMG! Good thing he didn't get into Speed Racer, I haven't seen it so maybe I shouldn't judge that movie by how stupid it looks... But I will anyway,,, because it looks so gay! And I also heard that it's crappy so yeah... I'm going to be watching his new movie on theatres I guess if it's going to be showing here. lol.

You can usually tell by trailers if a movie is gonna tank. Speed Racers Trailer saved me from being disappointed, so I am gonna watch Ninja Assassin if the trailer doesn't seem like a tank, too.

speed racer did rain dirty and didnt give him any credit wich is fine because the movie sucked and didnt do the cartoon justice. But Rain is a good actor he tries really hard and he went through alot for this role. So when the movie comes out give him a chance. If uve seen any other of his work such as him in korean dramas you would chnage your mind. but as for the bow tie thats just his style but i cant really help him out in this gettup.

This movie is going to be shit, lets be honest the wo'chow'ski's have had their day.
WB must be desperate to try to get some money back on this. I dont see it happening. I bet they dont either.......$120 mil on this crap...jesus.
Rain is a pop asshole, who cant act, that was a dumbass choice.
He's Korean, then he dis's japanese culture in the movie... WFT
Its had 4 release dates, was supposed to be out last year !!!
WB are seeing another loss like speed-racer... coming their way.
Time to dump Silver and W's if they already have not.
They were a one-hit wonder. No more milk left in that cow !!
