Hong Gil Dong wins at Roma Fiction Fest 2008
by javabeans
This is kind of random, but the recent KBS fusion sageuk Hong Gil Dong just won an award at the second Roma Fiction Fest on July 12.
The competitive categories were TV Movie, Miniseries, and Continuing Series; Hong Gil Dong won for Best Miniseries.
According to the Roma Fiction Fest site, “The Festival confirms and restates the objective of offering itself as an annual event for the worldwide production of television fiction and as a meeting place where the elevated artistic quality of products matches great success in terms of audience.”
The Diamond Award (best of all three categories) went to 10 Days to War, a BBC Two production that also won for best TV Movie. Special Mention went to Boris 2, shown on Fox Channels Italy, which was also the winner of the Best Continuing Series category.
Hong Gil Dong isn’t in bad company: other awards included Best Director (Continuing Series) going to Omar Madha of Spooks, Best Male Lead (Continuing) going to Michael C. Hall of Dexter, and Julianna Margulies for Best Female Lead (Continuing) for Canterbury’s Law.
You can see the full winners list here: Roma Fiction Fest.

I'm SO happy!!!! T_________T
In Italy dramas are NOT known, I hope this means there is soon a possibility to see dramas in tv (or something similar).
Plus Hong Gil Dong IS a great drama, at last! The only one that went on tv was Garo, and it was AWFUL, i don't know who chose it.

Est-ce que je suis la seule personne ici qui ne peut pas penser à HGD sans avoir cette chanson, le thème, dans la tête pour toute la jounée? Félicitations à Hong Gil Dong !

Eccellente! Maybe my cousin in Italy (ok, she lives near Perugia) will send me some info about it. I just wrote her a letter about my love of k-dramas. hehe

@ Jane elliot.
Everytime I hear Hong Gil Dong, I have "If" by Taeyeon playing in my head. But which theme song are you talking about? The one by No Brain?
Congrats to Hong Gil Dong ^^ I enjoyed watching it.

Annie:

Jane Elliot -- I believe "If" was the most-karaoke'd song of the year, or something like that. I admit to liking the song when initially used in the series (a memorable scene!) but it did get played out.
No Brain has some catchy songs, but the punk-rawk sound isn't really my thing. I do agree that the song plays in my head when I think of Hong Gil Dong, though.

Oui, j'ai regarde "Coffee Prince" mais je n'ai pas su que les chansons etait celles-la de No Brain. Ack, sorry. My French is pathetic. I've taken it for five years and visited France twice but still, anything that strays from "hello, how are you?" sends me running towards the grammar books.
My finding out about No Brain prior to HGD was totally accidental. Apparently, only old fobs know about them as they are "underground" I think would be the word? So no, I don't know any of their other songs since they're not really my style. ^^
I guess I take away a sadder vibe from HGD than others do and that's why "If" plays in my head whenever I think of it though. Probably because of the last fifteen minutes of the series. The tears flowed freely. I admit I was part of the karaoke craze though. I sang it every time I went to a noraebang.

Hong Gil Dong definitely deserves this. I've seen alot of dramas produced in 2008 and so far Hong Gil Dong is still one of the most memorable. Kang Ji Hwan

Wow, that's nice. I live in Italy and I had no idea HGD won. I didn't even know it was a nominee. *headdesk* Just like Kallista said, dramas are not popular here. *pouts*
I love dramas, but for some reason I can't get into HGD. I watched 2 eps and meh, still not getting into it. I'll keep on watching cos you recced it and I only heard good things about it.
BTW, keep up the good work. You = awesome!
