Posing pretty for When Night Comes
by javabeans
Stars of MBC’s When Night Comes were on hand on June 17 in Seoul for the press conference introducing their drama. Kim Sun Ah, Lee Dong Gun, Kim Jung Hwa, and Lee Joo Hyun were in attendance as their new series tries to take over from its predecessor Yi San’s successful ratings.
When Night Comes kicks off next Monday, but its competitors got a head start and premiered today: SBS with its long-awaited Gourmet (starring Kim Rae Won and Nam Sang Mi), and KBS with Eric‘s sageuk comedy Strongest Chil Woo. Ratings-wise, Gourmet came out on top, with its first episode posting 13.2% ratings versus Chil Woo‘s 11.5%. For their second episodes, Gourmet‘s ratings went up 2.9% (to 16.1%), probably taking all of the 2.4% that Chil Woo lost (total 9.1%).
I’ve seen the first episodes of both, although I’ll wait until I catch the second episodes before weighing in, but here are my predictions:
If When Night Comes proves to be a good show, it’ll probably split ratings with Gourmet, which looks like it’s on its way to being a hit. On the other hand, if Night disappoints with mediocrity, Gourmet will take the night, leaving Night to trail in second place with middling ratings. But I’m betting Chil Woo will probably be a spectacular failure either way (I enjoyed it, but yeah, it’s pretty awful).

KSA looks great. I wish that was HB up there with her. I'm just not a big LDG fan.

I'm hoping my comment wont offend KSA's fan....I find her quite big, especially her belly...Or maybe just the picture?
I think I will love Gourmet, simply because I have always liked food show!!!! I might like Chil Woo as Eric is an eye-candy and I like sageuk comedy. Why do you say Chil Woo is pretty awful javabeans? I havent seen it yet as I want to wait for the subs to be out first.
As of now I do not think I will even bother with Night. Well, its about raising awareness of national treasure - I personally find it a boring theme......

I have high hopes for 'When the night comes' because Suna is in it. Some people might not appreciate the concept of the TV-drama, but it`s fine with me, coz I feel the same way with other TV-drama. So, lets just wait and see who will win the rating. Good luck to all of them.... Their work deserve to be appreciated!

"Spectacular failure" and "Pretty Awful"....
You made it ambiguously clear how you feel about the series, Javabeans. LOL.

The cast in this drama is so very appealing... I liked Kim Jung Hwa in 1% of Anything and Kim Sun Ah is an adorable actress... The male actors look good too. I might give it a shot when I'm done watching Delightful Girl Chun Yang.... I've just recently tried it out and it's as good as everyone said it was, I don't know what took me 3 years to finally watch it... But there's no time like the present!

Javabeans, I'm not sure how I take your comment neither. You enjoyed it but it's pretty awful?!!
Hope you'll give it a bit more time.

It seems like Eric's new show is reaching quite a consensus. Every review I have read so far is pretty harsh, I'd still love to read your comments, though. It's a whole different perspective once you review it. It's like a EUREKA moment at times. haha.

I hope it's a hit.

Kim SunAh looks really good up there. Someone above mentioned that she's big, yes, she's slightly bigger than your average korean female celebrities, but I don't think she's anywhere near fat. Try to see it as a healthy woman with just the right amount of curves. :)

I don't really see a magic between the two.
But there's still a chance. It's barely 2 episodes, right?
AJA!
