Jun Jin’s video too hot for network TV
by javabeans
Shinhwa’s Jun Jin is one of the last members to make his solo debut (to date, Eric is the only one left without a solo album to his name, which I don’t believe he’s planning on in any case), and his debut single off his first album is causing a stir — not for the song itself but the 19+ rating its music video earned from the major broadcast stations.
The video for the song “Wa” features young clubgoers dancing closely, casting suggestive glances at each other, and generally giving off what was deemed enough of a sexual vibe to get it slapped with the 19+ restriction. Jun Jin’s management reportedly recommended re-editing the video to earn a less restricting mark, but that suggestion was abandoned because Jun Jin insisted on keeping the original concept and “quality” intact. (You’re going to argue quality for a bump-n-grind club video? Really?)
That keeps the video from being broadcast on KBS, MBC, or SBS; it’s permitted to show 19+ content in the middle of the night, but there are no programs airing music videos in those hours. Cable is another option, but the move cuts down on promotional exposure and airtime.
Probably not the smartest move in promoting a debut song on a debut album for a debut solo artist. Maybe he’s too confident that his Shinhwa ties will carry him to worry about possible negative ramifications, and I’m pretty sure he’ll do fine anyway. But although I find the video totally tame, I also think Jun Jin’s insistence (called “stubbornness” by his manager) is a bit misguided.

SONG OF THE DAY
Jun Jin – “Wa.” Personally, I think the song sucks. Which means it’ll probably be a hit, since that’s the way the wind blows. [ Download ]

OMG, the video is not only tame, it's totally lame! and banal, in my opinion. really, are koreans that sensitive? the 19+ rating seems a bit over the top.

LOL! I agree with you on this, there are alot of mv's that have more sexual vibe esp. britney spears... i don't get why this is rated as 19+
neways, Junjin looks weird in this mv, like his expression and hairstyle; they kinda lean toward funny to me instead of serious :D

this isn't the first korean mv with that sexy vibe-why are people acting all shocked? though i have to agree with you that there isn't much quality to the video and junjin looks all old and greasy in it. i had watched junjin's video after kim dong wan's mv for "secret" and it's so strange to see kim dong wan looking younger and junjin looking older...it's as if junjin could be kim dong wan's dad.

eww, it was like watching a pimp crawling through his own harem of women. totally unappealing and unsexy.
probably got the rating just to attract more attention than it warrants.

Wa is a pop/dance song and you either love it or you hate it. But the mv although not the best, did fit the song to me. There was nothing obscene about it. I find it funny that they ban the video after a month of him promoting it. He seems to be enjoying success of this first jib and I have to admit that I am impressed with the album.

WOW! I didn't realize how censored Korea is. I mean every Korean movie has some sort of reference to sex. This wasn't even overly sexual, modest maybe. Haha, well compared to the stuff in the US (R. Kelly, for an example). The only part I noticed was them grouping each other, which must have been super weird to film Ehh, Jun Jin.

The only obscene thing in the video was the retarded hairstyle "double J" had at the beginning >_> The beat makes this song sound like it'll be really fun to dance to though, I'll give it that.
I dunno about the 19+ rating...seems strange. But it's good PR...there's no better way to get teens to watch something than to prohibit it.

By American standards, this video is TAME. You could see worse on cable tv, hell on basic cable after 8.

As far as what's going on in the video it certainly isn't any worse than Minwoo's M Style with like 5 different lap dances going on!
I guess maybe there's a limit on video ho's...

Wow. I didn't find him sexy in the slightest, so it was weird seeing him act like some self-proclaimed sex-god. No real loss either way in my opinion.... I didn't like the video or the song.

This does not warrant a 19+ rating at best maybe a PG 13 for those "conservatives" in a way its a bit hypocritical. Its totally tame, the song sucks and so does the video. I wonder what was so special about it, the answer "NOTHING!!!!!"

Maybe it's all a marketing ploy. Get everyone to wonder why it's 19+ and then jump on the internet to watch the video, like all of us.

The heck, variety shows were more risque than that. This was a boring song. It sounded like the same song repeated a bajillion times.
I get it, baby, you wanna make love with her, there are girls that look like 12 year olds behind you. Yet I watched it to the end. I enjoyed the "steamyness" of the vid.
Though it's weird to see Koreans girl try to act sexy, since and typically, they go for more of a cutie girl style (ick).

@Charlo-Really? Cutie girl? I think a lot of actresses DO do that, but that is just part of their image. And they are actresses who have to be careful about stuff like that. Entertainment industries give us strange impressions on the race. If you watched MTV, you'd think all Americans are gorgeous and rich druggies who party all day.
And I can think of plenty of girls who aren't so cute....like Girl's Generation and Wonder Girls, who are pushing it for middle school/high school kids, and Lee Hyori. And those are just the ones off the top of my head. Granted, they're all singers...
About the vid, it's really really tame. What's with the 19+ rating? I've seen stuff way more provocative, even in K-pop. What annoys me is girls are hanging ALL over him. It's degrading, and he's NOT EVEN HOT! The song hurts my ears. The rapping hurts my ears. (Give me Big Bang any day). And it's so repetitive. But I agree. It will be a hit....Sad people don't like original stuff instead of "club" (more like lame, who can dance to this?) songs that all sound alike.

wow...that was just...i seriously don't get how that could possibly be rated 19+ it really doesn't make any sense. there was nothing that was overy sexual. every single rapper in the us makes videos worse than that. and seriously, they singer isn't even hot! he's like this old looking dude that thinks he's hot. like...ew haha :D

Saw the MV, not much to say about the song ... quoting Simon ... forgetable. I think itis just the TV station way of promoting it ... all the hype of 19+ ... blah ... not at least a bit sexy to me but rather disgusting ... sometime I wonder why TV station making all the hype when MV from US are more explicit than this. Gee ... I wonder why they put a double standard on local production compared to those from US. Anyway i probably forgotten about tis by tomorrow ....

OMG this is fluff. I thought with a 19+ rating they'd be having sex or something. What do they rate Usher videos?
Compared to the stuff that comes out of the West Indies, this is suitable for 5 year olds.
With a 19+ rating I should be seeing some Passa Passa t'ing here, not some club.

And I normally find Jun Jin hot and sexy, but the hair and the open shirt sort of remind me of some of Alan Cumming's roles (the weird, sleezy characters).....anyone else? No?? Just me, then, I guess.... *goes back to hiding under rock...*

Um. So? Seriously, it's not like it's no anything we haven't seen a hundred times before. Personally, I'm more offended by Jun Jin's hair. It looks like two different hairdressers argued over who would cut his luscious locks and finally settled on each tackling a side of his head. The result is a haircut that's gayer that handbag full of rainbows.
