Jung Il Woo scores a “Triple”
by javabeans
I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Pretty boy and recent university entrant Jung Il Woo — last seen in the movie My Love opposite Lee Yeon Hee and the family sitcom Unstoppable High Kick before that — is making his return to television in the upcoming MBC figure-skating drama being produced and directed by Coffee Prince PD Lee Yoon Jung, titled Triple.
The series is currently in the process of finalizing casting for its female lead, while Jung Il Woo is already starting script readings and physical training. The sixteen-episode miniseries centers around Jung’s character, a short-track speed skater, and a female figure skater, as well as their two coaches (one female and one male, naturally!).
It’ll be nearly a year and a half since his last TV project (High Kick), and he’s started skating practice. He’s already encountered minor injury while training, which is the reason he sported a slight limp at last week’s Baeksang Arts Awards.
Okay, I admit the series sounds like it could be unbearably cheesy. Like, total cotton-candy puff-fest. But also potentially OMG-so-girly-awesome like a Meg Cabot novel. It could be awful like the late-1990s ice-hockey kdrama Icing (anyone remember that?), or awful like Disney’s predictable Ice Princess. But you know what? I watched both.

Ha ha. You're right. It could be one of those dramas that you end up watching no matter what. It's gotta be good if it's done by the coffee prince PD. I hope they pick a good actress for the main role.

That is funny. I watched Ice Princess too, lol. I am way too old to be sucked in by Disney, but I fall everytime. Did anybody else see Princess Diaries?

How about The Cutting Edge (1992)? I loved Moira Kelly. I wonder whatever happened to her.

The Cutting Edge is AWESOME. Totally sets the bar for skating movies. The Cutting Edge 2, on the other hand, was crap (yes I saw that too. And Princess Diaries).

the cutting edge 2 and 3 are undoubtably one of the worst figure skating movies. Anyone seen Ice Castles? That one was ok...but the Cutting Edge is by far the best figure skating movie!
haha anyways....a figure skater and speed skater? it's usually a figure skater and a hockey player. lol. ^ ^ at least that's what it was like in my fs club/rink...and those of my friends'. lol

pssst, choram. it's not ice skating movies specifically. it's bad, bad, bad cheesy romantic teenybopper movies in general.
(she's all that? bring it on? 10 things i hate about you? what a girl wants? princess diaries? not another teen movie? clueless? mean girls? heathers [awesome, by the way]? SEEN THEM ALL. i do have limits, however -- i refuse to see high school musical. and am strangely not a john hughes fan.)

ok, speaking of Heathers, am I the only one who went into that movie under the impression it was a typical teen high school fare? You know, the standard blend of romance and comedy? My friends (who'd seen it before) all had fun laughing at my facial expressions as the psychotic murders and such escalated furhter and further.
I LOVE Wynona Rider Ryder though. Especially in Edward Scissorhands ... wow, I've gotten way off topic here.

Scarring of my life was when an eight-year-old girl told me that "OMG HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL IS SOOOOO THE NEXT GREASE."
I was surprised she even knew what Grease was.

Err...Jung Il Woo? I don't know about that...-_-
Hehe, I see we have a fellow Meg Cabot fan here. :P I love all her older works; her newer ones leave something to be desired, however. Still, she's cool. Have you read her blog?
And 10 Things I Hate About You is AWESOME, and always will be! :P (Heath...)

Agree with Dahee. Shakespeare is always better when it's been Heath'd . . .
Ahh, okay. Yeah short track is very popular in Korea, and filming short track races would be a lot of fun to watch. Kinda like the short track version of Pride. I was born to looooovvvveeee youuuuu . . . .
John Hughes is sacred, man. Without his movies and eyeliner, the 80s would have been unbearable.

Sarah, I heard that Jung Il Woo hasn't really signed the contract yet and only agreed to act on 'mouth-agreement'.
There's a DC rumor that Soo Hee from WG will be acting in an autumn season drama. Let's hope it's not triple, since her bad acting (unless she really improves) is going to ruin the drama no matter how popular she maybe right now. (WG's fans don't be mad at me cause I'm always speaking in a matter of fact point of view and I'm not bias against anyone.)

Oh my goodness, I haven't seen anyone mention "Icing" in years! I honestly thought it was cool, but then again, I was only 11 when it aired XD
Does anyone know what Song Hye Gyo is doing these days? If she's not busy, maybe she could play the female lead? She's the perfect height and cute to portray a female figure skater IMO. Han Jimin would be better, but obviously dang Yi San isn't done yet and even if it was, I don't think she'd have the strength to train and stuff =/

I thought you already forgot Cutting Edge and Ice Castle. Haha! I love those movies and will never get tired watching them. Both are cheesy and romantic but I like it. I dunno...maybe because the actors did not look as if they are just pretending to skate.
I'll look forward to this drama, just because I love watching people figure skate.
Which reminds me, there's some news here that High School Musical will be performed on ice... =D

Yikes, I feel quite old cos I saw Icing and remember how skinny JDG was back then and the female lead always wore dark red lipstick. *shudder* It was cheesy and I'll never rewatch it, but somehow the drama seemed okay back then. Pride with Takuya Kimura is way cooler. :D

naturally, the male lead is a short track speed skater.
... the only winter sport that Koreans can consistently win medals.
I'm just surprised that the female lead is not a short track speed skater as well
any mention of Apollo Ohno will still incite jeers from a korean crowd, although the incident happened back in '02.

Hey....HSM isn't that bad. Watched it with my younger cousin. Zac Efron is a cutie pie.
Since we're going off topic...Belleza, love your list. I own most of those movies...in VHS(lol)...

@kataomoi,
Song Hye Kyo would have been good for this drama, though maybe too old for the lead, as she did start out as a figure skater. But if they plan to cast a newbie from WG, they might as well cast the real deal: Kim Yuna. With dark red lipstick!! ;)
@it's all good,
This I know: "I'm so deep uhhhh . . . yeah" Jordan was bad for Angela, and our girl would have realized it . . . And yes I have a mp3 of Red on my computer. :D :D :D
Yeah, if we're talking seminal teen TV, then 1A and 1B goes to MSCL and Buffy, the Ruler of your Own World and Damo of the genre. Dawson's Creek (aka "I always hated Pacey, but nobody deserves Scientology!") would be What Happened in Bali (aka "will she never make up her mind?!?")

I can't wait to watch this drama! I've never seen a skating drama (Korean). I bet there's going to be a lot of stunts/doubles. lol.
I hope this drama would be good and doesn't revolve around skating all the time. I love skating! I didn't really like Ice Princess, because it's so unbeleivable! That can never in real life! Just like Cutting edge. Proffessional skaters train since they were young really hard and these people were able to compete in competition and win? Serisouly, they must be seriously gifted! It took me like half a year to complete the beginners lesson and learn how to do crossovers, spins, etc. So yeah, I hope this drama won't be like those movies. I loved Cutting Edge 2! Even though it's not realistic and accurate, I still loved it! I didn't like the first one or the one that just came out but I still watched them. lmao.
I LOVE Meg Cabot! I can't wait for the final installment of Princess Diaries!
Thanks a lot!!!

OH WOW! one of the actors announced already! that would certainly be interesting...but yea, the idea of "ice skating" - i still have some doubts over that, but perhaps lee yoon jung, along with the rest of her team, can use a bit of their magic to make this drama, perhaps, another Coffee Prince hit? =) but then if not, it's still appreciable eye candy =)
and btw, I couldn't help but notice your comment on High School Musical...I remember a few years ago, alll my friends were CRAZY over the show...(now, it's pretty much slowed down a bit) but it never really occurred to me, that the fan base has expanded sooo far, that one of the sisters of my friend, (aged 6!!), is a fan of the show...wow, wow, anddd wow.

This drama should be interesting, not to mention enetertaining since the PD is Lee Yoon Jung. AAHHH! Can't stop thinking who the lead female will be? If I were to choose and this is only a big IF, I would love to see Jung Il Woo and Han Hyo Joo pair up in a drama with Lee Yoon Jung as the PD but I guess that won't be happening in this drama since Han Hyo Joo's already in a project/drama with Lee Jun Ki. -_-"
I sure hope to see Jung Il Woo and Han Hyo Joo in a drama together in the future though. This make me think, the upcoming drama of Hyun Bin and Song Hye Gyo should have also been directed by Lee Yoon Jung, not that I have anything against the other PDs, I just love PD Lee.... can't you tell? Hehehe.... Can't wait! Can't Wait! Can't wait!
