That's true.. and it seems that anyone could realize that this is something that the sensitive public would be able to catch on to and be suspicious about. That's so unfortunate, that he has already garnered himself this negative attention, since his drama has just started airing. And I really like him too.

maybe they think his time spent in the on-again, off-again production of GP 506, was hard work enough pass for military service :D but yeah, if they're gonna use showbiz clout, they did it real clumsy.

I read in the news something about car accident . News also say that he needs to report to Army HR Admin 45 days prior any activities.

My guess:
JHJ joined the drama by end of Feb and the drama starts by April 2nd- the gap is only 30days. Even he inform the authority right after Feb 26th, there was still the chance that they may process his case before getting his notification. Or he should wait at least 45 days after he sent the notification, so that he can make sure they allow him to join the drama and would not send him the enlistment notice during the time he's filming.

I think he thought they would accept it. But he got the notice with the enlistment date earlier than he expected, right before the drama started . On Kangta's case, I remember the news about enlistment came out about 2 weeks before the date (am I right?) Being a good citizen like JHJ, he would enlist as the notice requires no matter what. Just he got an accident and it turned out he needs to rest.

eric and dongwan (from shinhwa) postponed their enlistment dates to be with their fans in their 10th anniversary
they should have gone to the army early this year, but postpone it to sometime august
so i dont know why JHJ didnt do that..

i still remember how people reacted with PSY and his issues with his army duties, it really doesnt help that JHJ's camp is not saying what the real reason is

So this is what I got from a peer:

There's news that Jo Hyun Jae was jus dismissed from army after only 4 days of enlistment, and even KBS Three Dads one mom team could not know for sure whether this is right.

While filming for the drama Three Dads one mom, Jo Hyun Jae joined the army (camp no 306 in UiJungBoo). But after physical examination, he received a notice to return home (due to health condition) and dismissed from April 4th (the next check up is July 4th). Right on that day, he went to filming scene of "Three Dads One Mom" and continued to act with other artists.

The crew also confirmed that "Jo Hyun Jae is filming with Shin Sung Rok, Jae Hee, Yoo Jin as usual".

Even the crew did not know whether news that Jo Hyun Jae enlisted and dismissed in 4 days is right or wrong. 45 days ago, Jo Hyun Jae got the notice from the army. That was middle of February, and until April 1st, he got information of enlistment. But on Feb 26th KBS informed in public about Jo Hyun Jae's joining the drama, the filming started from March. On March 26th Jo Hyun Jae also presented in press conference of the drama.

About Jo Hyun Jae in the army: he did overal physical examination in Gook Goon Yang Joo Hospital. A military official said " When JHJ went for the examination, I saw a cast on his leg, and he hardly could walk".

Just throwing this out there but, does South Korea allows gays in the military? If not, maybe he told them he was gay after enlisting and they sent him packing? I don't know, just wondering what could be the reason.

I think in my own opinion there's must be something wrong on his health condition that will aggravate if he continues to go on military training.. compared to doing tv drama which is not tedious one...

though for the meantime his back on showbiz work, maybe to finish his commitment... In the end he will still come back to military training coz its mandatory. .take care for your health JHJ...regardless of how negative was the news about jhj, will still remain on his side.

Gay soldiers booted from South Korean army in 2005

Eight soldiers were discharged from South Korea's military in 2005 for homosexuality, the army said Friday in Seoul, its first-ever disclosure of such statistics. According to South Korean military regulations, gay men aren't allowed to serve. The exact number of those discharged was reported by local media, and the army confirmed it when asked. It said it hasn't tracked or released such statistics in the past.

All South Korean men are required to serve as conscripts, and officers consult fellow soldiers and seek diagnoses from doctors to determine whether someone is trying to evade service by claiming he is gay. Gay rights groups, however, say that this can lead to demeaning practices and exclude those who want to serve their country.

Hwang Jang-kwon, an official at Solidarity for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Human Rights of Korea, said a gay soldier sought the group's help earlier this month after being forced to provide photographic evidence that he was involved in homosexual relations. He said he was also forced to take an HIV test without his consent. The soldier wanted to finish his service, but his privacy wasn't protected by the military, and the group is now seeking to get him an early discharge, Hwang said.

This week the Korea Sexual Violence Relief Center also blasted discrimination against gays in the army and called for changes to regulations barring them from duty.

Homosexuality has only in recent years gained some acceptance in South Korean society, with its strict Confucian traditions and strong Roman Catholic Church. The biggest current hit movie in the country, King and the Clown, centers on a gay love triangle involving a despotic king and two court jesters. (AP)

I'm from England so can only talk about how the army works here. To me, him being dismissed isn't all that suspicious. Usually, the army will dismiss people for even minor health reasons such as having a hearing impairment or slight eye sight problems, even if you've got an injured leg or something that we may think is minor. This is because the training will be intense and they need people that are at the peak of physical fitness. Although army is voluntary in england, I have friends who desperately wanted to be in the army and were unsuccessul as they failed the physical examination on a minor health problem.

The same could have happened with Hyun Jae. He may have a minor health problem/condition that he wasn't aware of (like a hearing prob etc as mentioned above) and may not have been considered fit enough for the army.

I don't think it's fair to straight away be suspicious of him. I can understand that some people maybe do try and dodge mandatory army service but we can't automatically assume that's what he did.

I personally think that army service shouldn't be mandatory, or if it is, it shouldn't be for so long. Some countries have even reduced how long the service is now. I've heard it's about 2 years in Korea. That's a VERY long time for an actor/singer who's career depends on being in the newest dramas and movies etc. 2 yrs away from acting can be very damaging to their careers and it's a big risk.

So in a way, I can understand those actors who do try and get out of army service because it's their career and dreams at risk. But I don't think Hyun Jae dodged army service. It's understandable for him to go back to filming once he was discharged, what's the point of doing nothing if you've been discharged???

I know this was awhile ago but any news on what actually happened? I don't think this is because he is a star because well lots of big stars have to enlist with added pressure from the public. But filming a drama like 3 dads 1 mom can't be as demanding as the training period required for the army. So you can't say imo that if he is unfit for the army that he couldn't be fit enough to film a drama.

People should leave his personal life alone. He is a good actor and thats it.
