From pretty boys to figure skates
by javabeans
The adorably apple-cheeked director with the resounding belly laugh — Coffee Prince‘s PD Lee Yoon Jung, that is — is taking on her next project: a figure-skating drama for MBC titled Triple.
The drama may not be that much of a stretch for her; prior to hitting it big with Coffee Prince, Lee Yoon Jung directed the Olympic-sports-themed short series Taereung National Village, which also showed her trademark ability to mine small moments out of big events and highlight emotion with a humanistic touch.
The drama will likely air near the end of the year as a Wednesday-Thursday series, and centers around 18-year-old figure skaters who aspire to success in a competitive field. The drama’s currently searching for its young female leads, and will cast till the end of the month.
Despite not having named its writer(s) or set its cast, you can be sure you’ll get a few things out of a Lee Yoon Jung drama: lots of poignant moments and a great soundtrack featuring lots of Western artists amidst indie Korean ones.

SONG OF THE DAY
Bluedawn – “보옴이 오면” (When spring comes). If you recall, Bluedawn had a prominently placed song in episode 9 of Coffee Prince in that key nighttime beach scene. [ Download ]

This is something Song Hye Kyo would be wonderful in as a mentor to the students. But it would be difficult to do a drama (as opposed to a movie, where it's easier to hide) unless you have actors who has reasonable figure skating experience. Well unless they want to teach double toe-loop jumps in 2 months.

Interesting! I'm withholding judgment until I hear more news about it, though. Writers are key to any drama, as are, often, the actors. But figureskating? Interesting...
Still, I like Lee Yoon Jung's directing style. I am hesitantly optimistic?

oooh Lee Yoon Jung's new project - that's definitely something to look for!
But as for the actual theme of the drama...I'm still holding back on that...I wonder who the cast will be (haha will there be another Lee Eon? =P), and the writers.

Writer is Kim Kyung-Se of such masterpieces as 2424, Dance Dance and 동해물과 백두산이 (Sorry, don't remember English title). Producers Olive9... this is going to be a huge mess. But of course ratings will be good.
Good luck getting anyone to look believable in the ice ring in a few months, and with that writer... oh mama.

wow!!!
a figure skating drama?
how are they going to pull that off?
where are they going to find skaters who are willing to take 3-4 months off training to become stunt doubles?
i also used to be a skater, usfsa novice level...and i can tell you, it's really going to be hard casting....^ ^

Tks for this update. Am a great admirer of the director and have watched Coffee Prince countless times. Wonder if you have any information about her. Have googled her and there was nothing on her (in English anyway).
