Kim Sun Ah leads her Girl Scouts
by javabeans
Check out the newly released promo poster for Kim Sun Ah‘s (long-awaited) comeback project, the caper comedy Girl Scouts. She’s had a lot of hold-ups in the three years following her notable role as Samsoon in My Name Is Kim Samsoon, and the article draws our attention to her “perfect S-line” (as though we’d miss it!), having regained her slim curves after gaining anywhere from fifteen to twenty pounds to play overweight Samsoon (who soooo wasn’t even overweight).
Girl Scouts is described as a comedy that unfolds when the four lead women take off to recover the money stolen by the head of their organization, and plans to release in April. It seems like a fun, throwaway film, and it’s got to chafe that in the midst of her legal issues, Kim Sun Ah had for one reason or another given up roles in such hits as the sleeper romantic-comedy 200 Pound Beauty, legal thriller Seven Days (formerly titled Thursday’s Child), and currently popular sports movie The Best Moment of Our Lives.
Here’s a Girl Scouts trailer with (admittedly subpar) English subtitling and narration (by Kim herself):
Hear Kim Sun Ah speak Japanese in the Japanese subbed trailer here (bottom clip). (I think her Japanese is a lot better than her English.)

Aw, it's good to see her back on the screen. Her S-line is oh so perfect indeed, even when she was "Sam Soon".

Wow, her English is pretty impressive. Some parts were a little bit hard to understand but it may have been the music in the background. It sounds great when she said things like "beware of imitation" and "four leaf clover."

i'm so glad she's back! i was wondering why she was so quiet, didn't know it was b/c of all the lawsuits. and her english is pretty decent. i wonder if she's going to play piano in this movie too, like in samsoon and s-diary.

The show looks hilarious...but not quite serious? :P I guess that's why it's called comedy. I will be checking it out, perhaps simply because it's Kim Sun Ah. She had to turn down so many roles?! If she had done 200 lb beauty.....It's a good film, but I would've love her to be in it. Why the heck was she sued anyway? (Or perhaps she sued them?) Shame for her to leave at the prime of her career.
Wish her all luck! And she's gorgeous, no matter if she's the "overweight" (You're right, SOO not true) or skinnier Kim Sun Ah.

I'm really glad that Suna Unnie is making a come-back. The past 2, almost 3 years after MNIKSS was quite saddening. Let me quote your last line int the Kim Sun Ah to make her comeback post "Two years of unintended absence (wrought with legal and contractual disputes, I believe) taken at the height of her popularity just seems wrong."
Sigh... those 2 years could have been more fruitful and they should have taken advantage of Suna's asian-wide popularity at that time. Everything just seemed to be wrong timing. After MNIKSS, Suna was overwhelmed by offers given here and there. Never in her entire career history she was given such attention. Thanks to her realistic portrayal of Samsoon. Yes, endoresements went flying here and there.
I cannot say that they made a wrong decision choosing THURSDAY'S CHILD (now entitled Seven Days) of ALL the offers that she received. I myself would choose Thursday's Child if i'll base it on the storyline and the possibility of showcasing Suna's talent outside her comedic skills. It was very promising. But it was at the wrong time perhaps. Because of being committed to Thursday's Child she turned down all the other offers and focused on Thursday's Child, not knowing that the project will be shelved and she'll end up being sued. (I refused blaming her management company, Sidus, at that time. but when Suna moved out of Sidus' management after the case was settled, i can't help but think that they must have not did their best for Suna's career)
Must be a very though time for Suna as well. Based on interviews I've read she was so overwhelmed with the attention she's getting after MNIKSS. Well, who wouldn't be. She's a famous movie actress even before MNIKSS but MNIKSS made her one of the top korean stars. When i watched one recent interview and she said "I'm not that famous anymore", my heart breaks, although she said that as a joke i can still feel that she's in a bit pain. And when she also left a message on her cafe that "the past 1-2 years has been though" i couldn't help but feel sad for her.
This project, Girlscouts, though brings excitement for us longing to see Suna again, doesn't give the same excitement i had when Thursday's Child was offered to her. It's another comedy film. We've seen her in comedy films for many years now and we know that she's good with that. I want to see a serious side of Suna (yes i know some of her movies and tv shows had it's own serious parts, it's still different if it is still a serious movie as a whole).
But anyway, i'd still be supporting Girlsccouts and will still be looking forward to watching it.
Good thing even being in hiatus for more than 2 years now, Kim Suna's fans all over the world never forget her.
Kim Sun Ah ssi! Fighting!

Especially now :( she's so quiet recently it makes me so sad. She could've been as famous as Zhang Zi Yi internationally if that lawsuit and other scandals didn't happen. If I only know who are responsible for all these I will spend my life cursing them everywhere online! (Since i'm not from korea lol) huhuhuhu more power for Kim Sun Ah ssi. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Regarding the videos in English and Japanese. I'm so happy because I speak English. I speak a little Korean but of course i still cannot understand it. And it so sweet of them (Suna and the staff/PR team of Girlscouts) to consider doing an English and Jap version for the foreign fans.
Kim Sun Ah's english was... uhm... cute. It was funny though (not her english, the situation) because when i first watched it i was laughing at myself because i can barely understand it. Eventually i was able to grasp some words and she sounded cute for me. Too bad the background audio is too loud making it more difficult to understand. I also believe that her Japanese version is better. Though i can't understand Japanese, based on hearing Jap animes, i think she sounded fine. Well of course she speaks Jap fluently since she grew up and studied in Japan

Ooh, it looks like it's gonna be real fun! The poster doesn't do much to me, boring standard PS-ed looking poster. But the trailer actually looks interesting. And Samshik's Granny (that's her, right?) is in here too.. Hee, so good to see her back.

If I am not mistaken, I think that Kim Sun Ah stayed in Japan for a while when she was in middle school which probably explains why her Japanese sounds good. She seems pretty fluent because she was able to hold an entire interview in Japanese without a translator. As for her English, she still has some pronunciation issues but compared to many Korean stars, its understandable without subtitles. I think she graduated from an American university but I guess language can be harder to pick up when you get older.

Sun Ah's Japanese used to be better than her Korean. Her famous vocal delivery comes out of using Japanese-style intonation to sound Korean syllables, and she still kinda works at not mumbling conversational Korean. Now I'm not sure what Choi Ji Woo's excuse is, but I digress. ;)
Sun Ah's English is excellent, I think. She was a music major at David Letterman's alma mater, Ball State.
She's really an inspiration. And in terms of straight slapstick, comic timing and having a completely unique brand of comedy, she's brilliant. Maybe she and Rain should do something together?

I`m happy that after waiting for several months, Girls Scout will be release on April.
Base on the trailer, it is a very interesting movie, a combination of action, drama and comedy. After the success of MNIKSS, I think Suna wants to give her audiences the best film she could possibly can. She was considered as the box office queen, Greatest Expectation, S-Diary, She`s on Duty was a big HIT. Even people who have known her as Kim Sam Soon, have forgotten her since she was not so active in showbiz for 2 years, Her fans who knows her as Kim Sun Ah are still here to support her. Suna Fighting! LOve You!

Wow, this actually looks pretty funny, judging from the trailer. (I was skeptical at first, because..."Girl Scouts"? Come on. And the plot doesn't sound all that enticing...) But that's a pretty damn good cast, actually, and I'm a sucker for movies that centre on female relationships. ...Okay, I'll watch it.

whoa..what you talkin' about? I think her english is pretty good. Her accent is much better than many korean I know here in US. She just spoke softly but clearly (more like a japanese-american speaking). Only the last part I couldn't understand because the music is too loud.
