WITH S2 fansubbing policy
by javabeans
The admins of the fansubbing group WITH S2 asked if I could post up a notice of their recent decision to stop subtitle releases temporarily, and I thought I’d also take the chance to explain the stance a bit. It’s quite frustrating to see people who don’t understand the situation just jump to the conclusion that WITH S2 doesn’t have a good reason for their actions. Trust me, it does.
I’m a member of the group, but I’m not speaking FOR the admins, just expressing what I hope clears up possible confusion. (Read: Please don’t email me to protest/complain/rant!)
The group’s announcement:
We have warned everyone repeatedly on the issue of hardsubbing & streaming our subs.
We sincerely appreciate everyone’s efforts to spread the drama love, but we’re growing increasingly frustrated, not to mention worried, over our repeatedly ignored requests not to upload our material to Veoh, Youtube and other streaming sites.
Perhaps you guys aren’t aware of the problems facing WITH S2, but the flagrant disregard for our requests puts us in an increasingly vulnerable position as a fansubbing group. We don’t want to be shut down (which is something we are in constant threat of) and if our rules are not honored, we may well be.
Therefore we once again make this request:
Please do NOT harsub & upload any of our subtitles to streaming sites.
If people do not comply, we will be forced to stop releasing our subtitles
for ALL our current projects until the request is met, full stop.We regret that we have to take such a drastic stance, but our requests have gone ignored for the past year. There’s not much more we can do to protect ourselves and to continue bringing these dramas to fans, but we believe that taking these precautions now will keep us operational for the long run. And we hope to keep bringing these dramas to English-speaking fans for a long time. Please help us by abiding by our rules.
Here’s the issue: WITH S2 translates and subtitles dramas, and releases “softsubs.” (Softsubs are text files that sync with the video, so you play both files simultaneously. WITH S2 does not put out “hardsubs,” which are videos that come with the subtitles already embedded into the file.)
Lots of well-meaning fans then take the WITH S2 translations, “hardsub” and upload them onto streaming sites like Youtube or Veoh. THIS IS BAD. The reason is not because WITH S2 is stupid or annoying or mean. (1) It’s disrespectful to the subbers’ wishes, but more importantly, (2) Fansubbing is not legal, and with the popularity of kdramas growing, legitimate companies have licensed the dramas for DVD releases outside of Korea.
That makes fansubbers a target — although fansubbers make no money, legally the companies have all the right to shut it down. Because WITH S2 is a prominent fansubbing group, it’s at constant risk and legal threat. When you put videos on Veoh, that exposes the group and makes it a big target.
To this end, WITH S2 has politely and repeatedly asked uploaders on many streaming sites to STOP UPLOADING their files. Many people assume that the uploaders have WITH S2’s permission, but that’s not true. The uploaders have basically ignored all polite requests to stop.
Which is why WITH S2 has decided that they will put a hold on their subtitle releases until the uploaders comply. (Personally, I think the fansubbers have been way too nice so far, but the admins are truly good-hearted people who just want to do their best to bring kdramas to English-speaking fans.)
WITH S2’s second-year anniversary is approaching (January 10), and the fansubbers would all love to celebrate the occasion by resuming sub releases. If you’re an uploader, please DO NOT UPLOAD WITH S2’s SUBS to any more streaming sites.
It might be annoying to have to figure out how to watch dramas without Youtube or Veoh, but trust me, it’s really not that hard. And some fans complain, “I don’t know how to do it! It’s too hard! I need Veoh!” Well, if we fansubbers can figure out how to download dramas, translate them, time them, edit them, release them, and provide the raw video files separately — surely you can learn how to watch them. (Soompi and d-addicts have detailed instructions.) Or buy the DVDs when they’re released officially.
WITH S2 is providing a SERVICE — a free, fast, reliable service. Fansubbers would like to keep providing the service, so we hope everyone can understand why this decision has been made. WITH S2’s wish is NOT to shut down drama-sharing — it’s to keep it alive for the long run. Please help by considering the bigger picture.
Without streaming sites, drama-watching may become less convenient, that is unfortunately true. But it’s better than shutting down fansubbing entirely — ’cause then you’ll have no dramas at all.
And finally, Emily from WITH S2 would like for me to extend the group’s best holiday wishes. On behalf of WITH S2:

Thanks With S2 for subbing so many kdramas. You have made the last 2 years of my life so much more interesting. To be honest, the first kdrama that I saw was on youtube 2 years ago. Thanks to the signatures, I found my way to d-addicts. Eversince finding d-addicts, I've been so spoiled with HQ videos, I can't bare to watch stuff on streaming sites. Like many people have said it's not difficult to read the tutorials on soft subs or dling on torrent. It takes some time and a lot of it is trial and error until you find what works for you. Honestly the easiest player is VLC player. It's self contained, so you don't have to mess with any codecs on your computer, it even works on Win Vista.
Again Thanks WITH S2 you have been so awesome.

lol. this is wha i wrote to their "comments page":
thanks mysoju for making the subbers stop putting out softsubs because this site wont comply to their wishes. i hope you guys are happy that us fans are the ones at a disadvantage. my comment will probably not go on board but i'm still writing it!!!
maybe they're ignorant enough to not note the sarcasm in that. lol. cause, well, they surely don't know how to follow rules. it's really quite annoying, that site specifically. they even sound as if they're the ones doing all the hard work in subbing, etc.

"No one knows for sure when the situation will be resolve, especially when the shameless mysoju.com has just added Lee San..."
When I saw this, I was very angry like many people here...
Mysoju ignore totally WITHS2 wishes and threat.
But well, me and a lot of people, fan of Korean drama, can wait a long time, it's not the problem, if it's the only way to resolve this issue, I'm (and a lot of people again) with you.

I am really angry like many of you here since I have repeatly asked (mysoju.com) to stop streaming WITHS2 subs but they have continously ignored it. WITHS2 have worked hard to bring us these wonderful subs and I will wait until mysoju stops streaming the subs. I hope WITHS2 will keep fansubbing alive, but I agree tat WITHS2 shouldn't release their subs until sites like mysoju comply.

It's me again.....yea i know u guys don't want to hear from me, but i am not here to argue with anyone. i just would like to point out a few things.....
many of you have said that the way you found out about kdramas was by going to youtube, dailymotion, etc, but now you don't want kdramas to be uploaded their because now you figured out how to go to clubbox and so on. But what about people who are just now getting into kdramas and other korean shows, or know nothing about kdramas......how are they going to find out about these great shows if they are taken off at those streaming sites?......
and many of the people that watch kdramas are non-asians that don't have people overseas to share or get shows from.......
and sites like clubbox are in korean or chinese, and hard to navigate through to download these shows.
sites like mysoju.com or uploaders like Lyptika (who i don't know either persons) actually help to spread kdrama and other asian dramas to those who wouldn't otherwise know about Asian Entertainment.
why don't With S2 try working with these sites (like mysoju.com) so that people will know that those are subs are from them (but without the With S2 label....so that they won't get in trouble with any companies that have licenses over those shows)
lets work together people- subbers, uploaders, and kdrama lovers.
i am not a subber, uploader, or work with mysoju.com, just a kdrama lover.
ok i won't leave anymore comments because i know i will get bash, which bashing doesn't bother me, but just to be respectful to others . because if i get bash i tend to bash back and my bashing can be a bit harsh when i get started.
bye

c (#158), you're free to express your opinion, that's no problem. but i fear you're still missing the overall point. although streaming sites can have the positive effect of exposing fans to more dramas, ultimately the negative outweighs the positive. whether or not YOU (or others) agree, the fansub group has deemed it a risk to their existence. surely you'd rather see fansubbed dramas available elsewhere (even if it takes more work to find them) than entirely gone.
since you are not a subber, uploader, or a mysoju affiliate, please trust the fansubbers' discretion in deeming streaming sites to be more risk than they're worth. it's nice that you've put thought into a possible solution, but if the group finds that course of action untenable, there are reasons for it.
so what are fans to do? well, switch from being a passive viewer to a more active one. you can still get access to pretty much whatever you want if you look for it. (even if you have a crappy internet connection or problems with clubbox or whatever, if you act politely and ask nicely, there are always people willing to help. i've even sent people discs in the mail because i wanted to spread drama love. [please don't everyone email me to ask for dramas now!] people got by back in ye olden days before youtube -- things are so easy now, there are tons of ways to get what you want if you put in a little effort.) really, at this point, this isn't a discussion that's up for debate. the subbers have made their choice (all with GOOD REASON) and they hope you'll support their decision.

c@ I don't care how old you are or threatening you sound like but I'll just take it as a comment of an ignorant kid. First of all, I believe that you don't know bad the situation Withs2 (and other subbing groups as well ) is now facing because of these leechers, uploaders & streamers (whether they have good intentions like you said). We are the ones that are getting the legal letters and warnings (I'm saying this because we already got them) right now by companies who hold the copyrights of these dramas (they won't care if it helps promoting their dramas when their profits is not coming in and also there are illegal sellers who are ripping from the streaming sites). Like Sarah said "Fansubbing is illegal", and the subbing groups are more targeted by legal issues because of the people who are hard-subbing/streaming using the original soft-subs exposed fansubbing to more danger. Why? Because attacking the first source is the thing that'll come to the legal companies' mind as things will not get complicated if there are no fansubs in the first place.
No fansubs--> No hard-subbing/streaming--> no viewing
So stop finding excuses to justified these uploaders or uploading sites, the damages that they have done has already gone too far for us to keep quiet anymore about the legal procedures that now going against us. I really do feel like crying right now as I type because of the pressure WithS2 is going through and these thick-headed people just keep accusing us for being selfish without understanding or thinking at all.

Like many of you, I've left comments on mysoju.com several times asked them to remove all subs by With S2, but the messages never came through. I didn't know they only showed positive comments and not the bad ones. No wonder, I only see compliments from their comment page. Regarding them using With S2 subtitle without giving credits to the team is a shameful act.

Like many of you I happened upon d-addicts through veoh and uploaders such as mackie and lyptika. How these uploaders survive when Veoh is owned by one of the media giants still amazes me. What about copyright issues with these people? They are much more blatant.
The unfortunate thing is these days that anything associated with entertainment media is illegal unless paid for. Even if you buy one copy and share it, you are still infringing the copyright. So I am truly grateful that WithS2 has been able to continue for so long.
Living in Korea and trying to learn Korean (yes I've picked up a quite few words thanks to fansub groups) it's great to be able to watch the same episode many times with and without subs. I do watch them on tv (I pay for that pleasure) but you can only view a couple of times and I still need the subs.
For those of you still not sure how to do everything all of us weren't born with the ability to Bittorrent. There is tons of info on the web about how to set up a torrent client and router if you possess one. Once you've done it you''ll wonder why you were so frightened of it. I use KTorrent as I am a Linux user but Azureus is excellent on both Linux and Windows.
For media playing I use VLC, it's free and comes out of the box capable of playing most file types. You even set it up to automatically play the subtitle (srt or vobsub) if it has the same name or manually select a subtitle
Keep up the good work WithS2 and I hope normal service can be resumed soon.
Happy New Year to all fansubbers and d-addicts and thanks a million.

Hi
I start to watch kdrama about a year ago, my first drama was winter sonata (my father has received as a gift), loving it and get addicted to kdrama. I use to buy dvd but the subs are so bads that most of the time, i have to guess what they were saying. Then i discover d-addict (have to mention that i was useless with computer, internet and downloading), just by google around, reading all the kdrama forum, i have learned how to download and play a video with soft subs. Like javabeans have mentionned, just ask nicely then someone will help you, go to IU forum, there's a lot of nice people who are willing to help you out if you don't know what or how to download your video, ask any question to Puela from IU, she's like a mother to all IU members. Anyway, what i am trying to say is there's no excuse for not to know how to download, if you really want, you can learn. And for internet connection, if you have a bad internet connection for downloading, it's not better to watch online because it's always buffering before it can play. The subs from With S2 are very goods, whenever i see a drama subbing by With S2, i try to download it. Sometimes they even keep the words in korean like oppah, unni, hyung etc... so it make it even more special. I totally support With S2 because i really respect what they are doing for all the kdrama lover and THEY DO IT FOR FREE!!! So a big thank you to With S2 for helping me enjoy a new culture (i start to learn and cook korean).

Wow... im a bit surprised to see this ongoing debate about the streaming issue. I read some of the comments that members had posted and i gotta say, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING AND WHAT IS THERE TO DEBATE ABOUT? Withs2's along with other fansubs already made it clear that THEY DONT WANT THEIR SUBS TO BE HARDSUBBED AND POSTED ON STREAMING SITES, so why must you have to go against their wills? HOW HARD IS IT TO FOLLOW SOME SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS AS A FAVOR OF THEIR FREE WORK? I have been checking Withs2's wiki every hours, every day, hoping to see some new update about the issue, but apparenly, it seems like some people still don't get it... i'm pissed right now, not because of withs2's decisions to stop releasing subs, but to those people that are spoiling it for the rest of us fans who are dying to see the next episodes... what piss me off more is that we couldve gotten those excellent subs by now if people start cooperating..... sigh.. anyway, i just wanna thank WITHS2s for their excellent subs service that they have been providing us for the last year (2nd year on Jan. 10th) and hopefully we'll see some new sub release soon.. JAN. 10th is going to be WITHS2's second anniversary so hopefully everyone can cooperate by then!

I'm honestly happy that WITH S2 finally took a stand on this issue. And I support their decision to cease releasing subs until uploaders comply. Out of sheer laziness, I used VEOH, and like so many others thought that Lyptika had SOME sort of affiliation with WITH S2. It wasn't until about a month or so ago that I realized that she must not be a member of the group. And unfortunately, I feel that she misrepresented herself to a lot of drama fans. If I'd known that she hadn't been granted permission to upload and hardsub the videos then I would never have watched anything from her. And I'm sure that there are others out there who feel the same. I apologize for not having known better. I should have checked everything out before downloading.
The only thing that we as fans can do at this point is to support WITH S2 and send messages to sites like MySoju.com, YouTube.com users, and VEOH.com users asking them to remove the videos. Whether they choose to or not, is up to them.
All I know is that they've ruined a really good thing for all of us...including themselves.
WITH S2,
Thank You. Your hard work doesn't go unappreciated.

Experience is an excellent teacher. Is it possible to arrange, to have mysoju and other streaming sites, view a letter threatening legal action from the legitimate companies that have bought the license for these dramas to be released outside of Korea, of their very own? I'm wondering if distibution of a product similar to that of a product these companies are hoping to sell is considered illegal. The distribution of a complete product, meaning with subtitles, being the key. I say similar, because as we all know, not all subtitles are of the same calibur as the next.
Since when did translating become illegal? As long as the translations are in a stand alone document shouldn't that be okay?
The reader should have to right to choose which translation they want to use.
These license holder's translations might not be the best translations.
If and when these license holders will even decide to release it outside of Korea.
Doing translations is not the crime. (even the bible has many translations from the original sanskrit)
Distribution of a product (video with subtitles on streaming sites) might be the real offense to the license holder. They should be going after the streaming sites.

With all the posts about mysoju.com I went over to check out the site. When you click on a video they clearly state that the file is not uploaded and hosted on their website but are links to the files on other websites. I clicked on the link for Golden Bride episode 45 and saw the video was hosted on veoh, clicked the download link and found it was uploaded on veoh by shinygirl84. Since mysoju is not listening to messages maybe those of you that managed to get lyptika to cooperate can do the same with shinygirl84 at veoh. I'm thinking once it's gone at veoh it will be gone on mysoju, so help me try and figure out who the uploaders at mysoju are and try to get them to cooperate. A small step, but if we all pitch in and try to shut down the uploaders we'll be a step closer to WITHS2 releasing the subs and feeding our kdrama addiction.

I just wanted to say that I am so thankful to withS2-fansubbing... I don't know what I will do with out you guys... I had enjoy many great dramas because of you guys. I hope everyone would comply and stop with the streaming and uploading...
When I first got into Kdrama, there was no youtube/veho or any streaming site. If you were lucky enough to have cable then you can watch it on TV but beside that I rely on my cyberspace friends to give me links to share some 411 on where and what is a good drama to watch right now... We did it with out youtube/veho b4 I don't see why we can't do with out it now. Also I don't know why people like to watch drama or anything on youtube, the quality suck so bad... veho is a little bit better but not much.
just my 2 cent comment.

I am happy to get the subtitles. I wish I could learn Korean enough so that I didn't need them. Back to reality.
First of all the subs should be copyrighted by the group that does them. There is a lot of free software out there that has various forms of license where you can use the product and modify or not modify as the producers of the software stipulate. (LInux, BSD, GNU etc.) Third there should be someone who comes up with a subtitle format whereby the softsub can't be used to hard sub a raw file. That may not ever happen.
The software should have some sort of a watermark repeatedly appearing stipulating that the product may not be used contrary to the writer's wishes. It should be a pop up or some such appearance that will allow viewers to know that they are watching something from a site that shouldn't be presented in that form. I need the subtitles. I would be more than willing to endure a warning than to have to figure out what they are saying without them. Also legitimate streaming sites could identify subtitles that shouldn't have been posted without anyone informing them. I am afraid that the end result of this whole mess is that free subbing will end. One person posting is enough to justify harassing those who do all the good work in subtitling. To wish that the poster would get the message is wishful thinking. Criminals commit crimes without any sense of remorse. Instead of posting detailed instructions as how to take a file and its subtitle and put them together they let people get away with just pressing a switch and watching. The free subtitling will end and the poster will just be saying that they didn't have anything to do with it. Well the poster is the cause of the problem.

ehem, seems the air is a bit hot in here...
edward, sad to say, soft subs can be edited so putting that watermark would do no better.. i hope the subs will not be "locked" in someways because sometimes retiming is needed.. why? cause people may not download the version that withs2 subs are subbing on, so retiming may be necessary (for personal use that is)
anyway, in my opinion, its the viewers that play a key role in stopping the uploaders and not the uploaders themselves... yes, send messages to mysoju , condemn them so that those who go there and watch without knowing will be aware of. .. spread the warning message.. through big communities like soompi (post it as announcement? on every drama thread?), d-addicts, popcornfor2, tsinoy etc.. where big % of drama viewers come from...
for one thing, its clear that withs2 will not budge from their standing, so it'll be pointless to try to convince them otherwise.
if you can't overturn their decisions, why don't you just do as they say?
its their work anyway, so the least we can do is respect their decisions

hi everyone, 새해 복 많이 받으세요!!!! happy new year and many blessing to all this new year and always!!!!! ^_^ man it sucks that this is still going on....i'm a huge supporter of withs2 you are all so very awesome and it still boggles my mind that you all would take the time out of your busy lives to put in all that hard work to produce these subs for us all. i too, was ignorant of the fact that lyptika was not associated with you all since she had edited in her name to be included in the withs2 credits. i also was one of the early ones that discovered mysoju and thought that it was an incredibly convenient site for hosting all those wonderful dramas. i've stopped watching dramas from all those sources many many months ago. i swore though the last time i was on mysoju that they had given credit to the subbing teams, but apparently they removed that section....hmmmm i wonder why???? i'm half korean and am able to understand most of what is going on in the dramas but have a little difficulty following the historical dramas which is why i like to watch them with withs2 subs. lol, and the subs have helped in improving my korean, lol. thanks withs2 for everything! ^_^ and dramabeans you're awesome as well!!! luv your blog!!! hopefully this will get resolved soon. take care everyone.

To C,
From your comment about people who has slow/bad internet connection, people who unable to get to see C,K,J dramas through S2 high quality work. I find that it's an excuse from ignorance people like you. I guest that you would never get to understand that whatever excuses you're giving, you can't change the fact that without S2 subbing team, people like you would never understand how appreciation we have for S2 Team.
I'm sorry for saying that to you. But you're bending the truth by saying that your people do that so c,k,j dramas can be more well-known to the world or to other non-speaking/understanding c,k,j. In fact, there are so many ways for us (international fans) to enjoy watching those dramas without harming the others. The only matter is time. As we know soon or later, without S2 or not, we still be able to watch it through many other sources (buying dvd, renting dvd, get a lower/smaller version of download, etc......), even though the quality might not be as good as S2 version, still, it's better than nothing, right? because I believe when you watch it on mysoju site, the quality of the picture is double worse than those small/lower version of downloads. We don't need your help spreading the dramas to people by stealing the hard works of the others and taking credit for that. If as you said someone such as mysoju kind enough to provide those services to fans like you then you should tell them provide their own sub to their fans. Why they stole people's work? And if you still see their action is harmless, they don't mean anything but spreading the dramas to the some beginer like you, then you should be ashame of yourself too. Why? because people with self-esteem won't take others' work and claimed it their credit.
mysoju's action is completely unacceptable. I already left another comment to mysoju, tell them to stop doing what they're doing.
For those who can't watch dramas through clubbox/d-addict or some other sources due to the file too big or some other reasons. I understand your situation, however, you can't pull all of us (fans who have other choice) down with you. You can watch dramas later when it comes out to the store, you can either buy it or rent it. If you don't have the opportunity like us, sorry but you will have to go with the other choices, please do not complain or compare that we can and you can't, we have to live with whatever we can have. Beside, even I don't live in your country, but I know that the time for releasing drama out in dvd is not that long. Take Viet Nam for example, the drama "Legend", it's already out in the market 1 week after the drama done with sub. Moreover, someone already translated it in Vietnamese dub under small version file for you to download it. See, you don't have to wait that long and it's not neccessary "file too big" as someone has complained. Beside, I also know that there are so many sources for you to download and watch the dramas just fine without watching it on all of thoses streaming with hardsub. If you don't know where to get it, you can ask me, I won't hesitate to give you the links. If you still think of any excuses, then you're just lazy, that's all I can say.
To conclude my comment, watching dramas with hardsub on mysoju or veoh by using S2 softsub is wrong, unrespectable, and unacceptable no matter what you said. There shouldn't be anymore excuses to that.
Sorry for my long post.

After checking With S2's website I realised there are constant progresses. Does it mean With S2 is still continuing making soft subs, but they will not releases them until the request is obeyed? And no one knows how long the issue is going to last? What if, dont ambush me as Im not jinxing, those websites are not obeying and still do what they do now, what will happen? This will be bad as people like myself will keep downloading raw files from WithS2 clubbox and keep them waiting for subs and there will be time HDD is full.
What can I do to help as I dont like this situation, it sucks for many of us who like and appreciate With S2's hardwork. But as someone mentioned above, any negative comments and requests are ignored by mysoju.com and they only keep positive ones. So posting comments wont do anything good. What else there is I can do?
I went to mysoju.com to check out what they are doing. Lots of episodes are uploaded to mysoju.com and there is no link whatsoever to veoh, so posting comments to veoh wont do anything either. MAN, how can people watch dramas on mysoju.com??? The quality of video is BAD beyond imagination!!!!

These are the places that a friend from soompi has dug up for me.
The 'hiding' places where mysoju.com has been uploading and streaming from (since they are never uploaded on their main, official sites). As the main translator of 'sweet spy' ( I translated 18 of the 20eps and some other dramas as well), I am really shock and hurt to see so much of my works uploaded without my or withs2's permission to so many places (Now causing legal problems because of these streamings) and what's worse is that they credit themselves when I and my withS2 family are the one who are the ones doing the hard work (sometimes we didn't even sleep for days, eat, drink for hours or even go out with friends just to rush the subs out and as a result, our health suffer as well.)
So please if anyone of you have a conscience, please stop the uploading/streaming of Withs2 subs.

Oh My....
I really wasn't aware that it was such a huge issue. With S2 is one of my favourite fansubbing group, their subtitles are so perfect.
Well as for me i do both.... i mean i download Raws and softsubs but i also watch sometimes on streaming sites (when i forgot and have nothing on my pc to watch.. :/)
I am truly sorry, i didn't understand the illegal/legal issue.. You're right lots of dramas are getting licensed and your work is being jeopardized... Once again i am sorry...
I support your decision and am now going to think it twice before going to any streaming sites.

best buy had a 500 GB external hard drive for about $119.00 on sale recently.
Might still be on sale. If not I saw a different 500 GB external hard drive for about $134.00.
There might be good prices on 1TB also. should check around for good sale prices.

To 164-Myone: Sorry for being off-topic, but I noticed on your previous post that you visit IU, just a question for you or those that visit IU. I haven't been able to log in for the past couple of days with my username. If you can log in, can you get the admin email @ or Puela email for me? I would like to ask them about my account. Sorry, for being so off-topic, but I really have no where else to ask. By the way, Revenue Analyst ( #180) mentioned about the 500 BG external hard drive; I recommend those who download Kdramas to buy one since it can store a lot of your favorite dramas. Get it while it's on sale. :)

181 Toya, I'm sorry if your ~spam post above~ was in reference to my post 180.
post 180 was in refrence to post 177 mention about running out of space down loading. I will refrain from that sort of post again.
If any you are going to downloading raw vids and soft subs and want to view it all at once, an external hard drive is helpful.
I don't know about anyone else, but I usually try to wait until I have the whole series before I watch it, the two exceptions were Golden Bride and In soon is Pretty.
Mostly because W/S2 was so quick in their releases. I really got spoiled.
And now I am in agony, hoping for the release of the next W/S2 subtittles.
It looks like they are continuing to the translations, they just haven't released them yet.
I just wish those streaming sites using W/S2 subtitles will just stop!

i was just wondering... if you do continue to sub with soft subs will there be a chance which people can download it and put it together themselves?

Since when did translating become illegal? As long as the translations are in a stand alone document shouldn’t that be okay?
@ Revenue Analyst
It is copyright infringement. Do S2 have the copyright owners permission to be translating their work?
First of all the subs should be copyrighted by the group that does them.
@Edward.
Really? Does the group have permission to translate the work from the copyright owner?
At to those saying that it is theft to use the soft subs on those streaming sites: How can it be theft if you've put it out there for people to use? More importantly how can they steal from you when have no rights to the show or the translation. If you truly believe they are stealing from you why don't you go and tells the cops? I'm sure they'll be really interested.
Once you put something on the internet you have no control over what happens to it. None. It is extremely naive to think that you can control all of the six billion plus people in this world. If you don't want to be at risk of being sued then don't sub and sure as hell don't put it on the internet.
S2 are one of the best fansub groups but if they feel that they can't sub anymore because they are worried about being sued, then thats what they'll have to do. In a few months several more fansub groups will have sprung up and filled the space they vacated. Its the way of things. Only the very young or naive would believe that one fansub group stopping means that all fansubs will stop. There are hundreds of millions of people who speak mandarin, japanese and korean - there are bound to be some out of those who will feel like fansubbing if only for a short while. Probably as a way to improve their English.

To #182-Me. Sorry for being off-topic. No i can't log in either and it's been 3-4 days already. But if you go to idols-unlimited.com, i think they are doing a new site. I think that some of us has been deleted from database. I just PM Puela via soompi forum (saw her post in Bad Love), and she has the same problem, can't log in and has been deleted too, but she says the site is browsable but forum doesn't work and it should be resolve soon.
Ok, i see at d-addict that With S2 has released subs for hong gil dong E1, hope that everything will be ok soon. Happy 2nd Anniversary to you guys.

@The king is dead, long live the king ~ I didn't really think about it that way. The question is...Can WithS2 get sued for putting subtitles online? It doesn't make sense to me because it's not an actual company or organization right? There are no laws on fansubbing...are there? And how is making subtitles for people illegal? They're not making any money off it...so they make no profit whatsoever...
And I really don't get how companies threaten to stop downloading, and allowing the release of hardsubs ~ it makes sense because they want to sell their products but allowing the revolution of the internet to the full extent is promoting almost everything they stand for. Most people that download and use subtitles are people that either 1) Do not have access to purchasing the DVDs. 2) Cannot afford the DVDs. 3) Need subtitles because of the language barrier.
Lots of people buy the official drama DVDs, older people that can afford it and those who don't know how to download - so basically the downloading stuff is for the younger generation - and if they can't download, and if you can't buy - then their interest isn't being fed - therefore, they'll just forget about it do something else that is accessible or find another way.
Having interest in a product is the best for a production...no matter if money is spent because the money will be goin towards them some other way - if through concert tickets or magazines, or just posters...they need to adapt to the new generation and new way of making money.
I'm not saying that I don't support WITHS2 in their decision to stop subtitles - I think it's a good idea but it's not going to stop everyone forever - and it doesn't make sense to do this every time someone uploads hardsubs of WithS2 Subs. WITHS2 should have the right to do whatever it pleases since the subs are yours. So yes, good luck with all this stuff and hope to be able to view your amazing subs soon. =]
Now if Korea dramas released official versions with English subtitles on i tunes or something - now that would make a lot of money. I'd buy it.

@188 making subtitles is not illegal but the fact that they take the subtitles and hardcode upload is what is illegal because they attach it to the actual video that is licensed
because the subtitles usually have WITHS2, credits, etc., they can only assume that it was WITHS2 that is distributing the video, which is illegal
that is why d-addicts adheres to licensed drama and taking down the torrents to the raws when asked, because they dont want to get sued
the line between subbing drama, videos etc is real iffy and one wrong step can get many people in trouble
whether or not they make a profit on the video/subbing is not the question, the people that license the drama get distribution rights and they want to monopolize on it, they will go after anyone and everyone they can because how can they sell their product if the product is available for free on the internet? just because you cant afford the dvd doesnt mean you should be able to download it for free, if the world was like that then everyone should be able to get everything they wanted, that is not how capitalism works

I don't want to debate anything. I just dropped by to show my support for WITHS2. I really appreciate the work you do. You've subbed a lot of my favorite dramas and for that I'm truly thankful. I actually am a lawyer (though I practice family law, not the corporate litigation stuff) so I understand why you've had to stop releasing subs for a while. I don't think you should take any unecessary risks for us. People should be grateful for all of the hard work and time you put into your projects. I know I am. Your subs are of great quality and the quantity of projects you take on are overwhelming. Though I do buy the english subbed dramas that are licensed, there are a lot of dramas that don't get released with english subs. Then I turn to dedicated fansubbing groups like you. So, I hope everything works out and I will be patient until it does. I respect your decision and I hope others will to. Again thanks for everything. Also Happy Anniversary!!!! (Please share this post with the rest of the team, as I would like to express my gratitude to you all)

To # 194, try to google it around. There's someone I know whom doesn't know Korean, but she was able to navigate through kr. clubbox by going a little search on the net. Try it, hopefully it'll help you as well. By the way, Happy 2nd Anniversary With S2. Also, thank you for releasing the subs again. Hopefully, ignorant people won't stream using your subtitle again.....Thank you With S2. :)

hi - i've really enjoyed the subtitles so far on a lot of dramas. i think S2 provides a great service, and if they ask to not upload hardsubs, or if they wish to not publish any subtitles for the time, it's up to them and I respect that.
however - with it being admitted in several comments here that subbing is NOT legal, i find some of righteous indignation here a little unfitting. if S2 asks others not to hardsub, they can ask. but if others don't comply, is that different from the copyright owners asking S2 to stop, and they don't comply?
i'll patiently wait for new subs to come, and i'll do my part to keep S2 under the radar. but in the end, if there is a real fear of getting caught for doing something illegal, then you should just stop doing whatever it is that is illegal. (which will suck for me cause I won't understand the dramas).

Hi. first of all, I feel really sorry for the fansubbers when it comes to these kind of issue. I'm so greatful for what they're doing in providing this kind of service for all kdrama fans. and for that, thank you so much. It would be really great if people who upload hardsubbed drama stop what they're doing. but then again, a lot of people are so stupid and don't care at all.
kudos to all fansubbers out there.
