The premiere of “Awkward People”
by javabeans
Actress Han Chae Young debuted onstage in her first theater performance today (Dec. 7; the play runs through next March) in acclaimed director Jang Jin’s “Awkward People,” (read more about the play here). The play is reported to show a delightful, warm sense of humor and quirky dialogue between the two characters — a bungling thief and a bungling middle school teacher.
After the first afternoon performance for the press, the actors and director answered questions at a press conference. Check out more pics from the performance below.
SONG OF THE DAY
Woong San / 웅산 – “I Sing the Blues.” Jazzy Korean blues. Or is it bluesy Korean jazz?

Han Chae Young expressed her initial concerns about the play, which worried her at first but eventually faded: “When we started, it was extremely difficult. I thought I wasn’t right for it and that I wouldn’t do it again. It’s arduous to perform for an hour and forty minutes straight, but as the performance date approached, it became fun.” She said of the experience, “I’ve heard that one learns what acting really is when doing theater, and during the two months of rehearsals, I’ve learned so much.”
And she explained about working with her co-lead actress: “At first it was burdensome, because I’d heard that senior actor Jang Young Nam is an impressive figure in the theater world. But as we rehearsed, she taught me well and helped me out a lot. Now, I think our double-casting was a stroke of good luck.” (The male role is double-cast between Ryu Seung Ryong and Kang Sung Jin.)

I totally agree, and it can be very distracting. Maybe that's why she's wearing such voluminious pj's because she wants to be taken seriously?

yeah, you're right. they're way too big. i think she's awkward with them too because she's always hiding them and slouching when she poses. she needs to reduce it to a more comfortable size.

When I saw her in Exhibition of Fireworks, she didn't have any big front but now she does. So I guess she did have them done. Anyways, away from breast topic, I liked her character in Exhibition of Fireworks but hated her role in Autumn Tale. Whenever I look at her, she just has this bad girl look on her. But I believe she's a nice person in real life. Right?

She's a pretty good actress, I guess. I've only seen one of her drama,,, Only You.

the play looks very interesting... basing myself on the captions i think she's doing a good job, though one can't never be sure by looking at a picture only... may they all break a leg!
don't know how her breast came about, but i would just like to clarify that they were always this big...even in delightful girl choon hyang...and autumn tale (why do you think she always had those ulgy suits on??)... in choon hyang her uniforms are too big for her (duh! hiding them)...go back and check out the wedding episode held by their friends, i remember thinking that they should've done something to hide them better...they were so obvious...also someone mentioned exhibitions of fireworks...but if you watch the earlier episodes when she's cheering on the soccer team, her character clearly compares her breast to the other cheerleader...
rumors ... shish!

I've seen some old pictures of her doing the same poses and she definitely didn't have such big breasts. And truthfully it's very unnatural and weird to have an Asian girl (of that weight - she's skinny!) to have such breasts. They are pretty much fat, and she doesn't have much of fat on her so it wouldn't make sense that she has such big breasts. In general, Koreans don't have breasts to begin with anyways - if you go shopping around here ~ any girl with a boob size a little bigger than an A would have trouble with the chest area of an average free size korean shirt.

Agree with you E well I don't think she only did her breasts but also her legs. In Sassy Girl Choon Hyang there's several scenes when the legs appear kind of weird, I'd say her thighs are too straight even for an asian. Plus she has a weird position when she walks, it's kind of annoying, but it's probably due to her operations.
Ah and I really do hate her voice it gets on my nerves.
Apart from that I found her a good actress, I liked her performance in Sassy Girl Choon Hyang and Only You, but I didn't watch Exhibition of Fireworks because it didn't stir my Interest. Problem is, I know I shouldn't but, when I watch the shows she's in, I just can't help getting unnerved by her voice, the way she walks, her big breasts and overly skinny legs. I mean well almost all female actresses in Korea have done surgery but she's one of the few who may have done a bit too much. Not like we have the right to judge anybody can do what he/she wants but when you're to appear on TV you have to think about that BEFORE changing anything on your body... Could be an interesting post you could do JAvabeans if you come accross an article about entertainers in Korea and plastic surgery.
Coming back to the topic, it would be interesting to see how she performs on stage because despite my general irritation I have to say she's good. Not extraordinary but still she's enough talent to make me stick to my screen despite how I dislike her and that's saying something.
Are theater performances coming out on DVD in Korea?

Aside from implants and surgery, (which doesn't really affect the way I feel about her, it's her own choice to have big breasts or not) I like Han Chae Young. Her face is a bit narrow and may sometimes give off a "mean" quality to it like Park Shi-yeon's. (In my opinion.) But she can act (somewhat) and looks pretty good in "Awkward People" from what I can see. I loved her in "Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang."

I wonder if she's had more surgery on her face? She looks a bit more unnatural. I adored her in Delightful Girl but I thought even then that she looked a little fake. And now it looks as though she had more, which wasn't needed at all because she was BEAUTIFUL.

LOL. I never thought my little comment would cascade to such wide responses regarding her plastic surgery. I too enjoyed delightful girl, but I think we were all "overwhelmed" with Jae Hee's acting and HCY's acting was a bit overshadowed. In that drama, she always gave me a sense of discomfort from wearing her school uniform with those humungous breasts. And the thing is, she zips her mouth damn shut when she kisses (observation from the same drama). I felt sorry for Jae Hee's character!

Didn't she grow up in America? I always thought that explained her body type- due to different diet growing up.

I don't know about Korean actresses, but it seems obvious that many of the fans are obsessed with surgery or, at least, the rumor thereof. No matter what country in the world one comes from, women come in all shapes and sizes as do other girls/women who become irrationally jealous of the other shapes and sizes.
Han Chae Young is a talented, successful, and beautiful actress (like many others) whose extraordinary look can make regular folks mighty edgy. Maybe she's just blessed because she's just blessed. It must be awfully difficult to watch the game if you spend all of your time watching the cheerleaders jump up and down.

I think it's great she'll doing theatre, the best place to hone her skills as an actress. I mean to be in character for 1 hour plus, on stage in front of a live audience and trying not to fluff her lines. Must be serious then about her craft.
