Open Thread #1
by javabeans
I’ve seen open threads on other blogs and always wondered what they were. Then I found out and went, “Ohh, why didn’t I think of that before?” Especially considering how I myself derail comments sometimes with completely off-topic comment hijacking.
So I’m trying out this open thread thing, which is what it sounds like — a thread open for any and all kind of comments. Nothing’s off-topic here! Or maybe everything is. Whatever. If it works out, I’ll try making it a weekly thing. I’ll start:
- The air quality sucks here — all the fires have turned the sky into a perpetual ashy, reddish blob of potential lung cancer. The winds have died down, but the fires are still going; you can smell the fire in the air. (A news anchor strongly advised against any exercise and basically told residents to stay indoors and not move much. Or breathe much of the outside air. I was totally onboard with that.)
- And what do you think, Colbert or Stewart? (My preference runs to Colbert — “gutly,” snicker — but I watch both.)
- I have a new header! Praise Luv here for her lovely creations.
- As for new U.S. shows, Chuck makes me laugh out loud like a crazy loon.
Okay, now you go.

toya , avonmarissa...sistas were you been at?? :P... evrybody looks at me like: why can't you just watch american tv like everybody else? the truth is, some of the things out there aren't that interesting...or just look like watched out series, that got recycled..or just trying to hard... for example "sex, money thingy..", very annoying... though some characters are quite entertaining... and k-drama, culture, just allows me to get out of the box and look whats going on on the other side of the world... plus i use it more as a way to learn a new language... the entertainment factor helps alot... thanks to all the subbing teams, i've learned a lot....guys you rock my world... he he... javabeans my hero, remembering all the those nights reading coffee prince summaries... keeps me coming back everytime...

I agree with you on Chuck - I've been watching Ugly Betty, Chuck and Gossip Girl every week. I love the download speeds in Korea haha...it's so sad when you go online and the websites say something about how you're not allowed to watch a free tv show because you're not in the US =[

I think I just might be in love with this open thread thing. It's almost like sitting down with a bunch of friends and chatting about anything and everything! Beans, you're amazing!
It's Always Sunny, and the Colbert Report are the only American television I've watched this past year, but maybe I'm going to have to check out Chuck and Pushing Daisies. Thank you to everyone for their input...

Btw, I love the music you post! I'm in a tucked away corner of the States and don't have much exposure to current Korean music. This is the only way I can find or experience Korean music that is different from the oversaturated mainstream K-pop. Thank you javabeans!

AHH! So I'm not the only one in love with 'Chuck'!
I love the concept and how the nerd world intermingles (is that a word?) in the entire show. =]
Chuck is so great...

Amyable, kdrama + college football makes perfect sense to me. It's been such a CRAZY season. Just wish I didn't have to endure Cal's heartbreaking losses the last 2 weeks.

hjk - I can't stand it. Cal lost again tonight. I had my hopes so high this season that the let down is really hard on me. It's so hard to be a die-hard Cal Bears fan! I need Prozac.

I didn't know you were in cali. yeah the fires here were pretty bad -0- they evacuated my workplace for almost a full week. it was nice in it's own way but sucks so much at the same time.. I see people smoking on the street and I'm like, why don't you just breathe in the air and there goes your tar -0-!!!!! luckily I am completely out of the way.

My favorite new show this season is "Dirty Sexy Money" on Wednesday night at 10pm on ABC. It has some witty dialogues and terrific acting from Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland. The wacky but lovable Darling family will have you rolling. Don't let the show title fool you...this show is alot smarter than it looks.
I was into "Chuck" for the first couple of episodes but quickly lost interest. Same thing with "Pushing Daisies"...only other show I watch on TV now is Heroes and Dirty Sexy Money. Oh...I almost forgot "Amazing Race" is coming back so now I have 3 must watch shows! lol.

No interesting shows on my part of the world, that's why I got addicted to Korean dramas. Haven't watch Pushing Daisies but I'll watch out for it. Have anyone out there watched Mars its a Taiwanese drama starring Barbie Xu and Vic Zhou, the subtitles are awesome and the music isn't bad. Whoever subbed that drama did a great job. If anyone can give me good advice on what Korean movies to watch it will be highly appreciated.

I would pick colbert he is really funny.
I like all korean, japanese, and taiwanese dramas. (addicted) Fan power is increasingly large especially Idol groups like Super Junior and DBSK(since they have the largest fanbase in S.Korea). Have you ever heard of fan pressure?? Its worse than peer pressure!(I promise!):D
