In a nutshell:
- (More) web issues.
- Updates on this site.
- Possible future drama watching.
Edited to add: Media Temple rocks. Their support and hosting services are top-notch, and they’ve made my life ever so much less frustrating. In fact, if not for their level of helpful support, I’d have been sorely tempted to throw in the towel on numerous occasions. Never once have they made me feel stupid, although believe me I’ve felt it plenty of times.
Unfortunately, I’ve had to take Coffee Prince direct song links down. You can still download all the songs via batch links, but I said when the direct links killed my site I’d have to kill the links. Both died tonight, and the site is reviving without the links. I don’t know if someone linked to them somewhere but I got an incredibly sudden, drastic spike that completely disabled my server and I had to reconfigure some settings to get back online.
Web stuff blah:
(I should really just label all this stuff as How To Become an Accidental, Reluctant Systems Admin.)
Phew. I’ve learned, never say never. It’s probably a very good thing I didn’t know anything about web hosting until I actually did it, because if I’d known in advance all I’d need to know to run my own server, there’s probably no way I’d have been persuaded to do it. Nothing scares me more than having to configure settings on systems I’ve never heard about until about two seconds before I have to configure them.
The site has been running excruciatingly (or maybe just very; but it sure feels excruciating to me) slowly over the past few days, so I looked into what was going on, and bandwidth was one likely factor. The numbers probably mean nothing to you, but let’s just say that yesterday hit a new high at over 43GB of data transfer, which is fairly high (and especially for a mere blog). I considered taking down my media links (or a good chunk of them), but I’m stubborn and greedy and was determined to do what I could NOT to have to take em down.
It also looked like I was maxing out my max connections on apache, and we’ll just make a long story short of how I sweat bullets figuring out how to use Linux, access my root server, edit my config files connecting to SSH via putty, then reboot the server when I really didn’t have any idea what any of those things were. Or are. I’ve probably used all these terms wrongly, but that just goes to show how over my head this stuff is. Now that I’ve done it, of course, it seems simple, but when you’re wondering, “Uh, what exactly is apache again?,” those command lines are awfully hard to execute.
Now for words that make sense:
I had a Last.fm widget going in the sidebar for a bit, but that felt kind of vain so I took it down. If you care about the music listening habits of a stranger, here’s my Last.fm profile page.
Coffee Prince scripts posted through Episode 13.
If you’re not keeping track, Coffee Prince’s Unofficial Soundtrack is updated through Episode 14. The list isn’t entirely comprehensive, but I’ve done what I can to locate the most prominently used tracks. For instance, not all background tracks are identified every single time they’re played. That gets kind of tedious, and frankly I think including every little tiny thing actually detracts from the composition of the whole. (What I mean by that is, I’d rather locate the most significant song placements rather than get bogged down looking for every single measure of music ever used. But that’s just me.)
Upcoming dramas:
I don’t know which drama(s) I’m going to be watching next. I’m not that interested in what I’ve heard of the upcoming dramas (seems sageuk is coming back in full force?), so I may watch something that isn’t airing live. It will probably NOT include Time of Wolf and Dog (not my style), Karl/Oh Soo Jung (should’ve been a great concept, but man is the directing bland), or Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs (I hear it’s all right, but getting past an admittedly slow beginning is a lot to ask of an impatient viewer). Golden Bride doesn’t appeal to me, and what little I’ve seen of Snow in August strikes me as overdramatic and shrill.
See, I may watch a lot of dramas, but I’m pretty picky. Either it’s gotta be good, awesomely bad, or easily entertaining (which includes subcategories cheesy, fluffy, and/or mockable).
On my list of possibilities are Taereung National Village (off to a pleasant start), or perhaps risque sex-themed cable comedy-drama Hyena. I may finally get to Thank You but at this point I feel like the excitement has passed, and it seems there were already plenty of invigorating discussions while it was still airing. Alone in Love is on my must-watch list and I fully expect to fall in love, but I haven’t been in the mood to start it. Similarly, cable drama Someday has always seemed interesting despite its mixed reviews, but I haven’t been in the mood to start. I’d love to catch quirky vampire sitcom Hello Francesca (whose director went on to Soulmate) but I haven’t found it readily available.
Since you probably have a decent idea as to my (weird) taste in dramas by now, got any suggestions? Anything in particular that I’ve just gotta see?

Yes, yes, I know it's travesty or whatever not to have yet seen Thank You... but at the time it was airing I had my hands full with Que Sera Sera and Witch Yoo Hee... And maybe, possibly, the more people, uh, try to *urge* me to do something, the more I automatically resist. (I don't mean suggestions -- I'm cool with suggestions -- but rather the kind of insistent, constant, proddy kind of urging that seemed to come with Thank You at the time.) How Han Gyul-ian of me, I know, but I maybe perhaps have at some points in my life been called a contrarian freak that way. I like forming my own opinions so the instant one is handed to me, I resist. But the part of me that is logical recognizes that I should probably watch it anyway. LOL. (and nk, sorry but War of Money's the type of ending that'll piss me off and make me angry that I spent time watching the rest of the series, so....)

i love ALONE IN LOVE.
Love it. It's one of the most understated and underrated dramas ever.
Nothing anybody can say will make you truly realize just how good it is.
The theme's something so simple..yet they make it so touching and believable that you just get drawn to it. GO WATCH IT RIGHT AWAY JAVABEANS! ^^
Hope you like it.

Yes, I agree with docmitasha and netskhi. I prefer your recommendation, for what to watch or not. I'm kind of person who have to finish book, movie or drama, whether they're good or not. So when I jump to bad stuff, it's makes me frustating. Spy girl is for an example. Just because of Dennis Oh -oh, this boy is so cute- makes me tired.
So your blog is a bless for me.
I watch one middle episode of Devil. I think it's a good drama, even I don't continue it. Not because it's bad, but it's a little bit scary. Ha ha.. I know some of you might say.. which part is scary? When camera shoot as if someone peeks and hides to listen the investigation. That part. So, if you want to watch and share to us, first thanks is come from me. A little bit scary but not as scary as watch it myself. :)
Also I heard that Alone in Love is good drama. I want to watch it, and maybe I will, since you and a lot of people here say so.
Ps. Don't take as burden, if I say you are my recommendation. Just enjoy your watching and happy writing. Your writings are also inspiring. I love them.

Since you have mentioned it, I really would like for you to do Alone in Love. Although I have recently finished in (2 days ago), I would still like for you to introduce this underrated drama to others as well as view your impression and comments on the couples and the witty dialoge. I think the way they filmed the drama was interesting as well and i believe that you will enjoy and influence others to enjoy this great drama with you. Thankyou for all your hard work and I'm looking forward to all of your projects with alone in love or without.

Javabeans, you know what? I haven't started Hello Francesca,Alone in Love, Someday and The Devil, so I'll be completely happy if you decide to summarize those to add the excitement while watching..:P
I love Thank You, but after read comments above, somehow I can understand you become kinda hesitate to catch it.
As for Hyena, well, IMO, it wasn't as good as Soulmate. Yes, it's fun and it has different style from ordinary K-dramas, but not that interesting.
Louise : I've seen Mackarel Run too! OMG, really wasting time n effort! :( Since I'm more into ajusshis :P, I hardly found any eye candies there!
And, like others said, anything you write is Fun. Interesting. and Addicting! So really looking forward another K-Dramas summaries from you!
PS: I've seen first episodes of Japanese vers. Hana Kimi, and I keep comparing it with the Taiwanese vers. Love the later, but maybe I am biased since I love Wu Zun more than Oguri Shun..:)
Dorama that I liked recently was "Bambino", no romance, but a lot of (drooling) foods..and the story was also good.
I think doramas are too short to recap, but maybe if YOU who do it, it turns as fun as the ones you did for K-Dramas!
Anyway, thanks again for your hardwork, and...your greediness to spoil us! :)

hi sarah, lol the techie stuff got the best of me. but i sorta get it. lol. like nhetski said, we ur faithful readers would like to help out if we could hehehe ^^
hmmm out of the dramas you mentioned you'd rather not watch.. i gave up on TBDW (im sorry Lee Jun Ki fans) it didnt really attract or appeal to me.. i felt as though if I werent watching the cast it was really boring for me. that's just me. now i try to grin and bear, downloading the eps but not really watching. just skimming some eps for Jung Kyung Ho (the guy from MISA) who I think has improved lots in acting and whose role there is the better ones. (Again, sorry LJK fans.. i must prepare to hide this one is not a LJK project that appeals to me).
Im watching Golden Bride, seemingly.. I like it. I like the leads here. I think LYA is doing a decent job with the Vietnamese thing though many people disagree. There are lots of discussions about it. I think its ok. Ill watch it through, Im kinda intrigued. Its long I know.
Not that captivated with Get Karl.. i like OJH but.. a bit iffy. maybe later. 9in2outs is ok.. yes ur right quite slow development. Im not that into it. But I watch it for the sake of watching hahaha.
I think u can How to meet a perfect Neighbor? I dont think its winning rave reviews, but I think its cute and funny, different. I loved Capital Scandal so much among the recent dramas that ended, aside from Coffee Prince. Hmmm.. yes ur right, next few dramas a saeguks. I m looking forward to Lee Seo Jin's most. The others so-so. Im looking forward to Lobbyist a lot. I might check out I am Sam too, Hong Gil Dong or maybe the Hwanhee drama. I agree with most of ur taste in dramas, msot of them so I think Id appreciate whichever choice you'd make. :)
I watched Alone in Love without expectations, at first the start wasnt as fast. But it blossomed it a nice drama. It was a nice love story. I like it. You should watch it. But like you it took me a few months before I started it. But yes was worth it.

Hi? What about Romance Hunter? it is like Sex and the City (korean style). It is a TVN production I think. It just completed its 16 episode run last week. I would love your take on it cos it focuses on the love life of different career women, from a flirtatious and promiscuous young woman who likes to have one nights stands, to a "silver spoon in the mouth" DJ who is still a virgin in her late twenties, who is still looking for the rich Mr Right, to a married woman who is the sole breadwinner, a woman who is in a 7-year relationship but is treated shabbily like a maid, and lastly, to the main lead actress (the lady in Bad Couple where her hubby cheated on her and where she went on to have a relationship with Ugun). It explores how each handles their unique relationship problems.
However, it has very adult-oriented themes and even explicit sex scenes, no porno but soft focus approach to it. There was an episode where the rich DJ found the vibrator for sale on the internet. It was hilarious!
Unfortunately like Soulmate, it has very little coverage and was difficult to locate anyone who actually followed this drama.
tks again for your hard work. I love your summaries, esp Que Sera Sera, Bad Couple and Coffee Prince.

I'd recommend Goodbye Solo and Alone in Love. (Just realized how the titles are kinda opposite in meaning.. hehee.) I saw the first ep. of Time Between Dog and Wolf and found it boring at times.. I managed to watch two episodes of Thank You because of the heaps of praises for it even though drama/melodrama aint my thing. It's good, but for some reason, I'm not really motivated to follow it. Read praises for Capital Scandal so perhaps I'll check it out.
Like others have said above, watch whatever your heart desires and we'll read whatever you write because the content is always honest, thoughtful, and humorous. Thanks.

Right before I started Coffee Prince, I just finished with The Devil. It was really good, if you're into suspense drama. Today, I finished Soulmate, thanks to your recommendation. I really enjoyed it. 'Can't wait for Season 2! I heard The Vineyard Man is also worth watching.
Just the same, whatever you feel like watching, Sarah; I'm sure it's going to be as interesting as your previous summaries.
Thanks!

Sarah, you should try Capital Scandal. I am sure you will love it..
This drama is unique and is definitely a breather amongst all those typical korean dramas out there. A drama with a perfect ensemble of casts, storyline, humor and chemistry. You will be drawn to all 4 characters without doubt..a drama which will make you laugh out loud and cry out loud no doubt..
REALLY, if you love humor and drama with subtle content, you should watch this drama. It's flawless.. even better than Coffee Prince at all means..(sorry to CP fans). I've tried watching other dramas like Wolf and Dog (yeap, story's boring in the beginning, not much chemistry as yet..), Karl Oh Soo Jung - ahh I didn't even get past Ep 1..yeah. Capital Scandal has ended and I'm still having problems getting over the craze. It's just that good..

Lol Like you said seems like we just crossed path because of Coffee Prince ^^
Personnally I watched Alone in Love... the first ten episodes and was bored as hell! I even forced myself to watch it -_-
Soulmate? My Friend lended me her DVD R telling me this was a must watch... I again got bored after two episodes. Too much talking to my taste... Or is it just because I didn't get in the mood but again I was bored. It's too bad people here don't seem to enjoy watching TBDAW, I really love that show. True there's not lots of romance but this is one of the reason I like it so much in fact, Romance is good but in an action story, you have to focus on the plot not on cheesy development. To me the romance they put in it is exactly ok no need to add more because It's not the thing the most important.Seems like everyone is on things related to life phylosophy or whatever, not really my cup of tea.
I watched Goodbye Solo as well. Was ok, I was bored as well, forced myself to watch it until the end but still seems it was ok to me...
I also tride to watch "Rude Woman"... Watched 4 episodes got bored ( I'm gonna be killed by every fans out there sorry guys).
As of everyone's recommandation...
Well honestly It would be great if you did a review about Capital Scandal ^^ Also seeing how lots of people here seem to not like "9 in and 2 outs" it must fit my taste, so I'll give it a try :D
Same with "Get Karl" ^^ Sounds silly but since my taste seems to be the complete opposite of the majority, I guess I should try the shows people didn't like ^^
Looking at your About page, I watched Dal Jah's Spring, I really liked it in the beginning but gave up after 17ep I felt it dragged too much and it bored me... Watched "What's up fox" the 7th first episode again...got bored.
But there are some shows we both appreciated ^^
I'm not so anti see ^^

I'm back to write more about ROYOW (네멋대로 해라) (I was at work so I could only comment briefly). It's my all-time favorite k-drama ever and it is for many other people. The script and the actors' performances are excellent... it is simply a piece of work, and I would just love to hear what you say about it.
"ROYOW is not a complicated drama. Yes, it has the fatal disease and the love triangle but it is as far removed from the usual K-drama as it can be. There isn't the roller-coaster ups and downs, the "we love each other but can't be together" teary scenes. There is no one in the story that you want to clobber. There isn't a scene where you want to say, "Oh, cut out this stupid crap and get on with it." The dialogue is the most honest I've ever heard. The characters in the story tell each other exactly what they think. The honesty is sometimes brutal but that's how ROYOW is. It's about taking charge of your own life and making sense out of it no matter how difficult the circumstances. It's about being truthful even if the truth hurts like hell." (from http://www.hotelier2002.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2134)
I really hope you'll give it a try someday, if you haven't.

First and foremost....I would like to thank you for all your hard work. I logged on the other day and thought....dayam 9:02 would be pushing it....I mean the 14th cup can't possibly be up already....but it was..how did i ever doubt you..? Let's just say i was so excited I almost tinkled =D I'm sure that was far too much information.
I have definately agreed on all the movies you found touching (Flowers for my life) those you could have lived without (Air City/Witch Amusement) those that made you smile (Dal Ja Springs)and those that temporarily shocked you....Que Sera Sera =D Coffee Prince has proven to be another great pick (and of course you were right about sexy voice man)...so I'm sure whatever you choose....whether you end up loving it or hating it....we your audience will be amused as we read your thoughts....
Btw...because of your reviews on Hani Yori Dango...I found myself giving JDorama a chance. I think if you don't take Hani Kimi too seriously...you too would enjoy it. I don't think its in depth enough to do weekly summaries but it's still fun to watch..and there is Oguri Shun..there is just something about pretty skinny japanese boys..yummy..did i say that out loud??? Also, I watched Snow Queen just recently...i was quite hesitant to watch it....I mean another korean drama with someone dying..Sung YuRi..can she even act..? But surprisingly enough...halfway through the second episode I found myself really enjoying it..it was rather moving..and if that doesn't turn you on...then the beautiful scenery definately will...the soundtrack was a nice plus too...and then there was hyun bin...all scruffed up...yummy...
Well....thanks again..and sorry about the novel...let's just say you inspire us to write =D

Sarah.. look through the oncoming dramas thread at WithS2 and see if there is anything new that you would like to see.
Ggak-du-gi will be starting on this sat.
King & I will be on 20th.
Fly high will be on the 24th.
If you like to see any old dramas/sitcoms instead, I'll suggest season 1 & 2 of Hello Francesca (not really liking season 3.). They have great songs, the same PD of soulmate and even when I start watching it again lately, it still makes me laugh and cry at the same time.
Especially whenever I hear the song "Travelling Boy", it makes me think of the scene in the rain at the end of season 1 when Du Lee and Francesca meet again after parting for some time and Du Lee was so lonely without his extended family, drinking/eating on his own, couldn't get rid of his habit of calling out "I'm home" when the family of Vampires have already left. "Hello, Francesca.." he called out in realisation of what the family vampires meant to him and Francesca smiles back to him knowingly opposite him carrying an umbrella in the rain.

Alone In Love's a gem too - poignant and funny. I've also been wanting to watch Hyena, mainly because I like Shin Sung Rok (the second male lead in Thank You). Not sure if this has been fully subbed.
Someone mentioned Ruler of Your Own World? One of my all-time favorites!

Dear Javabeans,
Capital Scandal, Surgeon Bong Dal Hee, Alone in Love.
Capital Scandal is so funny, sweet, poignant, groovy, enchanting and gives viewers many outright laughs, Kang Ji Hwan, Han Ji Min, Ryu Jin and Han Eun Jo? (can't remember name, of lawyers fame) oh the chemistry between KJH & HJM - One so tall and one so short, One so wacky, cute, a stylish dandy - so UNcheesy - One so straight, righteous, mother Theresa material with a passionate temper to boot when times calls for it, so old fashion, feisty when struck with KJH's character...the fireworks between them is so darn funny and endearing! Ryu Jin did a great job and HJE? the madame courtesan is so elegant and classy, OH I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE her wardrobe!!
Surgeon Bong Dal Hee - Lee Boem Soo, simply magnificent! loved the story, the acting, the cast and crew, loved everything about it! The story was one that kept evolving with new twist and turns that were so believable and so sweet too in many ways and Lee Boem Soo in all his utter seriousness, gruff and loudness was so passionate, caring and had such a splendid sense of humour that had a naughty and witty/willy edge to it - all said with a straight face...Oh I LOVE him!
Alone in Love - From the opening had me so caught up and glued on...never seen an opening whereby a couple was divorced before...what a start, I don't know how to describe it, it seemed flawlessly real.... so real that I started to imagine it and feel it like it could happen to anyone - including me - I have to admit that it scared the hell out of me some...the pace of it was special, it was never rushed, lost, hurried - not once - it flowed like a gentle stream that joined to a lovely river...(I cried and I laughed)and finally when it came to the edge of the river it formed a gorgeous waterfall (the force, climax, power - I cried some more, laughed some more, held my breath, heart was squeezed so many times I thought it would ask for holiday) and finally fell gloriously to form a pool of wondrous possibilities at the end..(forgiveness, opening of the hearts, clearing of doubts, truths, confusion, letting go, coming to terms, begining of a new journey, finding and admitting to an unforgettable feeling called love) oh.so beautiful...AJA
Whatever you choose, you have a battalion of K-drama lovers who would eagerly read your summaries/reviews...thanks always, HUGS, AJA love E

Javabeans, I've been really enjoying your blog with your own writing style. I think you're one of the least people who provide episode summaries with caps and songs and I know it's really troublesome to do that. I always come back to reread again because I'm always in good mood just to see the caps and stories all over again. I realised that you probably like series with a lot of comedy-romance scenes, or something more focused on relationships, which are the ones that many people like. I believe there'll still be a lot of people coming back to read your blog even though you planned to do something popular in the past, such as Full House, My Girl or Goong (it'll definitely be nice to remind myself of those series!).
Some people mentioned Capital Scandal, I think this is a really brilliant idea, I love this drama so much along with Coffee Prince! It's my first Korean drama with such setting, but I found it totally entertaining and funny. Your writing about Soulmate was my starting point of watching the drama itself, thanks for introducing such an exceptional one! I'm wondering why you didn't write the summaries for that. Anyway, I'll always come back to read your summaries again and again!!! Thanks!

Ah, so the feet are from Flowers of My life... thanks for the info. I started watching it but stopped to wait for it to be fully subbed.
I think it's funny how everyone has different tastes. LOL... I tried to watch Alone in Love (and I really wanted to watch it because I loved GWS in The King and the Clown) but I couldn't get past the first ten minutes of the second episode. IMO, the show is incredibly SLOW.
ROYOW, I liked it at the beginning then stopped watching for a while then watched the last episode. I certainly didn't love it... but I'm shallow, though. IMO, the guy wasn't cute at all and some parts of the storyline really irritated me so in the end, I didn't really care about the characters that much.
But what do I know? I'm not enamored by Coffee Prince the way almost everyone else seems to be so yeah, different tastes.
I agree on Snow Queen - it's definitely a nice one, even though there's absurdity in the storyline but that's common in dramas, but I guessing recapping an already aired show wouldn't have the same kind of readership since more people would be able to find the files with subs and might have long since formed their opinions.
Oh... if you're recapping old shows, Mars (twdrama) is definitely a good choice. Even though romance is a theme, I love that it's also quite mysterious and is a well rounded drama. Depending on your tastes, you might not be too fond of the direction because it relies heavily on flashbacks (but not like Phoenix where they flashback scenes from like five minutes earlier grr) and conversations but it makes sense because it deals with the characters' pasts and all that great stuff. The way they reveal parentage and all that is so much better handled than it was in Coffee Prince, though.
But like you, I'm looking for something to watch so I might try Capital Scandal after all the episodes have been subbed. I'm really not too keen on anything set earlier than the 1960s but since it's getting rave reviews, I'll just give it a try.
Well, good luck in your search... or you can take a well deserved break, no?

Good luck with your search! I will say that Coffee Prince may have a little to do with your disenchantment with the current crop of K dramas on offer. All I can say is that I truly empathize with you on that particular front. Coffee Prince is to be honest one of the best shows I've watched recently which includes British, American, Japanese, Chinese and by far the best Korean. It's got fantastic directing, and great writing even though I think the last couple of episodes feel like more of an epilogue, wrapping up some issues bubbling in the background. The soundtrack I'm not so enamoured of (personal taste) but it definitely adds to the experience.
Gong Yoo has truly stolen the show from YEH (I'm guessing he is making his presence felt before his 2 year hiatus) and I can see why the author was so pleased. Every emotion that would have otherwise in less caring hands been spat and spelled out by monologue, is instead wonderfully expressed. I did not recognise him as the idiot rival from My Tutor Friend, which speaks to his maturity in this role. Even now that I know, still boggles the mind. YEH seems so incongruent with the girl with the bad "stripperlicious" (sorry couldn't help it, they are terrible) moves, or the overwrought princess in Goong and has managed to notch up my opinion of her several degrees.
And I agree with your assessment of Karl/Soo Jung, the premise is fantastic, but from what i can tell from the RAW files, the execution leaves much to be desired. Same with Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs (thank you, thank you! for not using "9 ends" those 2 words irritate me to no end). The pacing problems that plague Korean dramas that makes me practically want to slit my wrists around episode 12 seem to be bedevilling the writers. The premise of Hyena seems good, it might be interesting to see "edgier" television reviewed. You might try sneaking a J Drama in there, i thoroughly enjoyed Kimura Takuya's work in Engine, Pride or even Hero.
Anyways, aja, aja, fighting or ganbatte!

wow this is so depressing.... reading about moving on from coffee prince...it's not even over yet!!! i'm still in denial - the only drama i liked in - forever- is ending. god i am so gonna miss HG's wardrobe (someone give the coordinator an award for great taste) and that rooftop "house" of his - loved every inch of that place. especially that spacious bathtub!!!heavenly!!!)
i saw a few episodes of romance hunters and the acting was good for the most part, but the storyline is not as engaging as Sex in the city at all. cant believe someone compared them. SITC had heart, but RH loses focus. it's obviously trying too hard to mimic the "voice" of SITC and failing miserably in the process.
have to say "hyena" is quirky...saw one or two episodes for like 15 mins each time. totally don't get the point at all. doubt it will make your cut. good luck finding another drama like CP!!!
p.s. kim sam soon won tons of awards in 2005-2006 and i'm hoping like hell CP tops it - if anyone deserves accolades this year, it's the CP cast and crew - Kudos to them for making our months a little brighter. let me tell you....from all the quality tv i've seen from west wing, northern exposure, my so called life, firefly, etc. this was the only korean drama worthy of making my list of "the best TV has to offer" - CP made me proud to be korean!!!

If you happen to choose a drama that I've already seen, I'll do a rewatch... just to see what I had missed in the first round and what you had picked up, your interpretations, your point of view in each each scene, in each episode...
so... go for it!!! choose what you like....we'll be happy and support you with your choice!!!

jk, omg, My So-Called Life was so good it hurt me. Like, physically felt pain in my chest. Arg, the angst! (Before teen angst was WB-fied and "cool"! Not that I'm knocking the WB -- some of my favorites came from them.) Firefly was awesome -- are you a mutant enemy fan? Buffy, Wonderfalls (not exactly M.E. but close-ish)? I suspect we may have some other shows in common.
And I think i'll just have to download a bunch of first episodes to get a feel for the (wide) range suggested. Thanks for some great suggestions -- i have a couple front-runners that i'm leaning toward but i'll hold off on making a decision till i see some more first eps.

I realize something Java, you like light-hearted drama with pretty actors/actresses , just like me.
Funny, but your list of " will-watch-one-of-these-days" are the same as my list ( Thank You, Alone in Love, etc). Im just trying to find the right time to watch it and maybe this might be the right time when you start watching it..hehehehe....
I'm currently watching GET Karl, Oh soo Young and it's ok where I will continue watching.
As for August Moon, I watched up to episode 4 then I stopped. too much drama..lead actresses aren't cute however the two main actors are hot but nahh...
As for Golden Bride, I'm going watching it because 1) cuz I'm Viet 2) it's there..
Someone told me that Time of Wolf and Dog will be one of best series airing right now but like you, it's not my cup of tea....
Whatever you decide, i'm going to be your loyal follower..heheheh

I personnally seem to be agreeing with you a lot on which dramas are good (Flowers for my life, Dal Ja, Que sera sera, ...) and which aren't so much (I too wonder why I bothered to finish "only you")... And I love reading what you write, so I'd pretty much like continue reading the blog no matter the series of which you would talk.
This said, I must say I watched "alone in love" after seeing a good review of it on spcnet ; I watched it completey - so far "autumn fairy tale" is the only kdrama I've watched I've been thoroughly unable to stomach to the end, and I've recently calculated I've watched more that 50 in this year (yeah, I know, I should get a a life, somehow, and some sleep). From my point of view, it was so-so, and not because of it being slow, or boring, as some people said it. The problem was it felt... fake somehow, and why, I couldn't really say.
"Thank you" really surprised me : I was expecting melodrama with tears flowing for unrealistic reasons, and all. But it sweet, sometimes bittersweet, the actors plays wonderfully, and especially the child actor who makes a wondeful job (I swear, she's one of the first child actors in kdramas that actually conviced me). It's awonderful drama, even if you don't blog about it, you should definitely watch it.
I've seen some people pressing for ROYOW, but I must confess I've been stuck on episode 5 for so long (lack of interest, even if I intend to continue, especialy since my korean friend told me it was an all-time favorite of his), so I wouldn't really suggest it.
I know you said you didn't really favor historical dramas, and I don't generally, but I have to say "damo" and "hwang jin yi" are really worth your while (great OST, visually wonderful, great acting, very nice plots).
I've heard "resurrection" is a very good drama (Mr. X posted a review on twitch, and he loved it), but I still haven't watched it myself.
My personnal favorite (that you haven't yet blogged about) this year would be "the snow queen"... It was a very good drama, very balance, with a very good story - though sad... This one, again, you should definitely watch even if you don't blog about it !
Okay, now stopping the randaom rambling, hope that helped somehow !
Whatever you choose in the end, I'll be cheering and reading and I hope you'll enjoy it. And I sicnerely wish you good luck with the server and linux and putty and apache stuff...

All I can say is..kamsahamida. Work has been rough going and reading your blog literally destress me :) Appreciate your linguistic skills and at this point, until the end of Coffee Prince, I don't care if you don't write anything new...'Cos you have done such a fantastic job translating/updating/maintaining CP episodes at super speed. Thanks again! I do wonder about your background sometimes, will you share?

What about Romantic Hunter? It's a sex-themed drama (like Hyena, maybe?) and has a Sex and the City feeling to it. Pretty good, I say.

I see some familiar names, hehe. It's cool to read people's comments on what they liked or didn't like; it just shows we have such diverse tastes. I love Damo but my friend falls asleep every single time she tries to watch it. I think ROYOW is brilliant but some people find it overly quirky. The lead guy's acting is first-rate (at least to me) but I have friends who will never touch ROYOW because the lead guy is not hunk material. Lots of people love Thank You and I did like it a lot at first but then the last few episodes were disappointing. It didn't help that I was firmly rooting for the 'cad' in the drama. And, surprise! I'm not too bowled over by Coffee Prince either. It's enjoyable but I'm not addicted. I can set it aside (which I did; I've not progressed beyond Ep 6) and not miss it. I intend to watch it fully at some point but there's no urgency. Part of the reason could be that I like THE VOICE's role so much more in Taereung National Village. His acting was just a lot better there than in CP (based on what I've seen of him so far in Ep 1-6).
I can understand why some people would perceive Alone in Love to be slow. It's a dialogue-driven drama. But I love how I'm privy to the characters' thoughts; it allows me to better appreciate their emotional struggles. And both the lead characters are 'slow' (unhurried) people given to much contemplation. I enjoyed their sarcastic banter with each other. The secondary plot (her sister's romance with the doc) is lots of fun too.
Capital Scandal... very enjoyable with excellent chemistry between the leads. But I must confess that occasionally the OTT (over the top) antics got tiresome and repetitive. And sometimes I'm confused by the direction of the story or the writer's intent. Is this supposed to be a mystery or a comedy?
Time of Dog and Wolf... I'm helping to sub this so naturally I'm rooting for it. I found the first episode to be quite boring; maybe I was expecting more from the child actors and found them lacking somehow. But the subsequent episodes proved to be gripping and exciting. Junki is the main draw for me; honestly I won't watch TODAW if he wasn't the lead. His acting is first-rate. I like the rest of the cast too and that's always a big help. But I admit that some of the more 'exciting' scenes (the espionage-like scenes for example) made me shake my head in disbelief because they felt too orchestrated, too easy. Also, at times the female lead and the second male lead seemed to be merely going through the paces; their acting wasn't always consistent. But overall I feel this is a pretty good drama that's worth watching. And I love the OST.

it is quite a surprise lol . i thought i was the only few who find The time of Woft and Dog dun really delivered what it promise ..i cant feel any excitment so i stopped following up on it .i really wanted to watch it for Nam Sang mi
Get Karl .yes it started with such good premises but then somehow i think it tried too hard -; make me lost abit of interest and wondering if i should get back to it .
Capital Scandal wa^^ i did not know it has quite a following ^ ^ ! yes it was refreshing in its approach to a genre of its kind .the cast and production crew pulled it off very well . ~ it was fun and entertaining yet you feel the historial tragedy of that era .the cast was great .lol ..simply give it all and enjoyed themselves too !~ if the script had expanded to show more on life of chosun during that era , it will had been great .but overall .the efforts of the production team did created a memorable drama . i think ppl shd try this one out .
for 2007 , one drama i tihnk no one really mentioned it yet here is White Tower .^ i dun think it was everyone cup of tea ^ i know it might be too heavy dosage of politics but personally i think it is one of the best drama of this year . great ensemble of cast and script such awesome performance by kim myung min in the lead role .and where i come to find out MR VOICe ^^ .i am a jversion white tower fan ..so i expected alot from this kversion .but it lives up to expectation , both versions has their own merits..
if you like Flowers For My Life, HEllo Mr God is also rare gem ..~ by the same PD .you will experience the same delight i think .it was inspired from the book Flowers for Algernon
the leads were pretty inexperienced but yet deliver beyond expectation of newbies ..and yes it has such a wonderful casting too in its supporting roles like flower for life ..it was such a refreshing drama that never overwhelmed you with too much sorrow or sweetness even .but yet still deliver such simple touching message of life ..that touches your heart .
Mawang i will say is certainly a production of quality as guarenterred by the production crew behind it ..but somehow i felt some stuff in it can be more tightened up ..too many clues yet unanswered lol at least to me .but i was fine with the ending , i even get quite emotionally challeged with dilenma during the process of following up the drama . just ..maybe i prefer Resurrection more in terms of the script writing .
Alone in love ~ to me is a must watch ..it is a drama you had to watch and experience yourself .
As too Someday ..which start off on a bit of slow momentum .but as you go beyond the first few esp .it grows on you and you delight in being charmed by this story . A girl called Hana come in search of a 70 year old love story , she doesnt really believe in love but yet during her journey , a man shows her how it is so possible to fall in love . Love is not really only a game of hormones like she believed it to be .! . i love the animation applied in the series ..~ and Bae Do Na and Lee Jin Wook [ aka HANA and Seo Man ] ranked among of the my most favourite kdrama couple in 2007 ~ ! and Oh Yoon Ah was simply marvellous as YOON HYE YOUNG , you just had to see her in this role ! .gosh that woman really dazzles . even Kim Min Jong was pretty okay .i wont say great but .obviously better then what he had done in lover in prague . i love the OST too!
and such wonderful dialouges written
javabeans hope your sever problems get solved soon~~i have my fair share of sever issues.!~
your blog is totally awesome , greatly appreicated the efforts you had put into keeping it such a wonderful blog for kdrama addicts ! .

you should definitely watch Thank You, even though it is not currently airing...highly recommended...it is a very touching story :D
And you should give Time of Dog and Wolf a try....It starts off a little slow because the first couple of episodes set up the background,...the real plot begins later on, like by the 5th episode (I know, it's a long wait)...kind of like Resurection...which is why it may seem that Lee Jun Ki and the lead actress do not have good chemistry together (they don't have many scenes together)...Normaly this drama would not be my type but after watching The Devil, i opened up my mind to different genres and so far it is good :D

i decided to comment again for 2 reasons. one it's a slow work day and two, i'm such a lurker/stalker (a nicer way of saying that would be 'an avid reader') of your blog. of course i'm not a stalker in a bad way like in swim fan or crush (idk if anyone has seen those movies... T-T) but anyway!
i agree with thunderbolt on Capital Scandal. sure it's cute but sometimes the actors seem like they're acting too much. and i'd honestly steer away from The Snow Queen and Wonderful Life. Snow Queen b/c it was too melodramatic for me (and it mirrored A Love to Kill a little too much for me-- just the boxing and brooding part) and Wonderful Life b/c the end of the drama was basically about the kid being sick with cancer (shock!) but i have a feeling you've probably watched these already... hahaha
NEVERTHELESS!!! i'll be happily reading your blog with whatever you supply us faithful readers with, whether it be random babblings or episode dissections, i'm happy to read either and all. especially when the school year is going to start again and i'm on a kdrama hiatus for a while (idk how i'm going to survive) your blog will be my life line...
ps firefly was great! i'm a fan of scifi-y things like x-files (when it was good)

Someday was really a beautiful story, which for some reason I think you would really enjoy watching it. Maybe I'm wrong, but although it took me the first couple episodes to get into it, it is an incredibly charming storyline and in my opinion, incredibly under-appreciated. (Probably because it was broadcasted on the cable network OCN.)
