Beanie level: The Goblin’s underpants

Seeing some Moon Lovers posts sent me on a small tumblr dive of posts related to that crazy mess show. I’ll be sharing the best gems I found here over the afternoon.

#neverforget

(This will forever be the funniest and most inexplicable moment in the hot mess that was my beloved Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart: Ryeo)

    Lol @ OP’s tags.

Can’t believe that was actually in the drama, and NOT one of my little sister’s edits. Pwahaha.

I just remember thinking “did my laptop sneeze?” when it happened. I think I rewound it like five times to make sure I wasn’t going insane.

I love Eun-ho here. This silly boy better be scared.

This just made me laugh.

this guy is a drama treasure, all his characters are gold! he manages to become remembered with what little he is given

His character in Pinocchio is still one of my all time favorite characters.

I still remember his expression when Lee Jong Suk told him about the good news and bad news… Lol

Hahaha, yeah! I also love that he trained Lee Yoo-bi’s character to be his mini-me in the end, headband and all.

I would be remiss if I failed to add this X Squad moment, though.

But the boy has the moves to redeem himself in the end, so all’s well that ends well.

(As far as I’m concerned, the episode ended here and there’s nothing you can do to convince me otherwise.)

    Me too.

I mean, I guess they needed to do something next week, but so help me God, if there’s noble idiocy I will cut someone.

We’ve already had it, now is the time for epic payoff.
Though I seriously think TaeWoon would do anything to protect EunHo, and DaddyO better cotton onto that real fast or he’s in trouble.

        2
        1

Pretty sure the entire X Squad would go to bat for her, so I’m hoping it’s more of a chance for them to really band together and fight the system, like they did today for Sa-rang. I feel like that was a way to whet the appetite for what’s to come. But I stand by my caption.

I really love these cafeteria scenes — they play very organically and are hilarious. Also, my ray of sunshine Byung-gu is the school gossip, because of course he is.

Heee… I love Bo-ra and Dae-hwi laughing knowingly with “I’m so done” expression.

I love those two, and while I don’t necessarily ship it, I like the fact that they seem to be evolving a cute friendship.

I love how even though Tae-woon is technically X, it’s really more of a Team X that has formed, and I am 100% here for it. Look at all those smiles on my little noodles!

Next: THIS BOY.

Oh my God child, could you be any more obvious?

My favorite part of the episode was Sa-rang and her mom being total badasses. I love Sa-rang’s huge capacity for love and it’s so obvious to me why she and Eun-ho are besties.

9
11

The icy gaze she had on during her fight with Eunho broke me because of this. She’s so kind and affectionate, how much hurt must it have taken to put that coldness in her eyes?

And I was totally sobbing when she saw her mum heading home and then put on a brave face. They couldn’t have given her a better name than Sarang.

    7
    1

Seriously. Sa-rang broke and remade my heart this entire episode. She’s so amazingly strong and sweet and sassy that I can’t help but love her. I also think it’s really interesting how we see her in contrast a bit to Nam-joo who’s ashamed of her family, while Sa-rang is totally supportive and caring of her mother despite the fact that another teenager may be embarrassed.

And this isn’t to malign Nam-joo, because while I think she’s acting immaturely, I understand that kids that age do stupid hurtful things like that. It’s just such an interesting contrast storytelling wise. Sa-rang and Eun-ho share that total inability to be shamed by the reality of their lives, and I can’t help but respect that.

      5
      2

I was actually just wondering about this—if Namjoo’s resentment is related to the fact that she has a big family. I don’t think she has a mum, and so she has to care for 3 younger siblings daily, and I can kind of see how her father’s lack of ambition for a more well-paid job grates on her together with this burden. Whereas for Sarang it’s just her and her mum relying on each other.

        4
        2

It’s unclear what Nam-joo’s family situation is re: her mom, but I suspect that regardless she still has the burden of helping to take care of them. The thing about her behavior is that it’s bratty but I can’t fault her for it. I certainly had certain bratty behaviors when I was a teen which make me cringe in retrospect, but it’s just a part of growing up.

And I wouldn’t say her dad has a lack of ambition, because we haven’t seen enough of him to know why they’re in that situation. But I also may be forgetting something in her backstory because my brain is slightly addled from a massive dinner.

          4
          1

Hmm more than brattiness I actually detected a deep sense of frustration, which is why she always makes outbursts instead of speaking at a normal volume or even tone.

Of course, to the viewer she seems to be downright mean to her dad and his sweet gestures, but if you’re put through dire financial straits plus carrying the burden of an adult from a young age, her resentment becomes more understandable.

            4
            0

          Yes to all this ^^.

I agree that she’s really frustrated with her life, and her hubris is that she can’t express this in a mature way. I think what I like most this storyline is that she is so understandably the way she is but that doesn’t make her any less frustrating a character. That’s what this show does so well. I can be annoyed with her behaviors even though I sympathize with the source of them. A large part of that to me is also just a maturity thing — maybe this is the only way she gets to feel and act her age since she has to take care of a gaggle of younger siblings.

          3
          1

Oh yes, definitely. I think it speaks to how well-written even the side characters are.

Also, though I fully sympathise with Namjoo while also disapproving of her behaviour, that contrast between her and Sarang or Eunho seeing her dad on the street was important in showing how your behaviour can be justified by your circumstances, but there are others who find it in them to be better and kinder under a similar situation.

I don’t know how Daehwi will get Namjoo to open up to him again, but it seems he holds the key to helping her start this change.

            3
            0

And on Eunho’s side, she at least has a complete nuclear family and though she needs to work part-time, it seems she gets to keep most of her savings, and her mum even gives her allowance for delivering chicken. I think in terms of finances Daehwi, Sarang and Namjoo’s families are the most tightly pressed.

        4
        1

Oh for sure, that’s why I thought that the contrast between Sa-rang and Nam–joo was more apt. But I also loved that moment when Eun-ho saw her dad working in the street and was totally unashamed to be his daughter. It just warmed my heart so much to see that, and the look of shame on Nam-joo’s face was a bit heartbreaking and really interesting in that moment. Hope they tie that storyline up properly next week.

But… he didn’t answer her question… and she ended up running away with all the stuff anyways. Gurl.

Is it obvious I’m not watching this? Ha, while everyone else is swooning.

OH. Okay. Doy. I see it now. … but he could’ve still kissed her cheek with his hands full? Alright, I’ma stop because I’m being a party pooper here. *runs away*

Pretty sure we’re all too giddy from the cute for you to ruin it, so no worries. But also, what @sicarius said — this boy isn’t super sharp when he’s being all flirty.

            Haha, good, good.

I see. I guess that makes him/them all the more cuter in a way? They’re silly lil’ love birds.

I love the way Eun-ho honestly blurted out and half-squealed that it was too fast. Ha! That’s smooth Tae-woon for you. ㅋㅋㅋ

I just love the snark on this boy.

He and Sa-rang are really made for each other. Both are sweet and caring but also filled with sass.

The funny thing is I don’t even think he means it to be snarky, he was just being way too literal XD

I’m so sad DramaKBS didn’t upload the clip of this! I so wanted to make a GIF of him greeting her by patting the back of her head while they were near the school gates’

I just loved that he basically took Issue hostage to cheer up Sa-rang.

      5
      2

It’s so super cute that Sarang is so easily cheered up too, they’re a pair of sweethearts :’) I wish we saw them more (although I think we will see them a bit more in the next three episodes, but not nearly enough).

        2

Oh and I also adore how Kyungwoo doesn’t pry, he just calmly administers a dose of Oppa!

        3
        0

Kyung-woo sometimes took everything too literally, which is a particular trait of him that I really love. He is so wise but also really innocent, which makes him.extra squishy. I remember that little clap he gave Young-gun in the gym class while everybody else didn’t want to get into her bad side. It’s just too cute.

      3
      0

I loved how Issue is all like “Why am I here?” and SaRang is just blissfully basking in the glow of her oppa(s).

    4
    1

I like that Kyung-woo doesn’t bother to explain to Issue why he’s there either. He just sits there and let’s it be weird, which makes it 100x better.
