HEY BEANIES!
These are my TOP 10 Favorite KDramas! I’d love it if you could give me some recommendations! Let me know if you recommend them based on my favorites or on your personal favorites! Thanks!
I tried “Queen In-Hyun’s Man” a few months back. I personally love really pure and almost innocent love stories, so I gave up on that drama about half way through. Thank you for the suggestion though! It definitely fit my drama “type” for sure!
I like a lot of the dramas on your list. So I’ll recommend my fave drama, Shut Up Flower Boy Band. Don’t let the name fool you, it is all about the bromance.
I’m watching Pinocchio right now! I’m glad to see it at the top of your list. I was worried that it wouldn’t be awesome all the way to the end.
If you enjoyed Park Bo Gum in MDBC, I recommend:
I Remember You-bromance, romance, exploration of what makes a person a monster, and Seo In Guk and PBG. Daebak!
Tomorrow’s Cantabile: Slice of life drama at a music school with PBG as the troubled (and adorable) second lead cello player.
I honestly cannot rave enough about “Pinocchio”! I really hope you love it as much as I do! I think the message and the theme of that story is incredibly powerful!
Your recommendation sounds very good! I’ll definitely be checking that one out!

KDrama Review of “Radiant Office”
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 8/10
How I rate it: 8/10
This drama was an unexpected gem for me. Every episode left me feeling happy. It feels like a little “slice of life” office story and I loved it. It’s a tale of perseverance, hope, honesty, learning, growing, and the importance of working hard for the things you care about. For a story that starts out with three young people bonding over their despair and attempted suicide, it actually is full of heart and lightness. The romance was a slow burn, but its simplicity made it all the more precious and heartwarming. It was fragile, cute, and comforting. I love this shows’ message and the bond of the diverse characters was refreshing. This show left me feeling joyful.
Watched (April – May 2017)

KDrama Review of “The Girl Who Sees Smells” OR “Sensory Couple”
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 8/10
How I rate it: 7/10
This is my kind of show, I loved it! I adore great writing and stories centered around the creative uniqueness of the hero and heroine’s gifts. The villain is absolutely terrifying (whilst being calm and almost nice enough for you to keep wishing he weren’t the villain). The romance is absolutely precious and heartwarming. The team of police officers, though imperfect and a bit oblivious sometimes, provide an amazing amount of camaraderie and laughs. The moral lessons of compassion, teamwork, and choosing not to return evil with evil is so necessary in our world today. Definitely recommend!
(My only complaint is we never learn all the details of the villain’s motives, but it’s not a hard thing to overlook because the rest of the story shines!)

KDrama Review of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” (#22)
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 8/10
How I rate it: 6/10
I have come to find that I truly love shows best where the heroine has this one unique gift and it transforms everything about the story. Bong Soon’s superhuman strength is wonderful and fun, with this actually really great message.
Every week I looked forward to watching this show. I laughed so many times, found myself gripping my blankets during some of the intense scenes, and felt my own heart fluttering a million miles a minute throughout. Park Bo Young as Bong Soon is vibrant, spirited, and so talented. She carries the heart of the show spectacularly. Park Hyung Sik (Min Hyuk) matches her in every way with his adorable quirkiness, tempered by these all-consuming, melting gazes. There is no other way to describe the romance in this show other than show-stopping. The chemistry is REAL. Bong Soon and Min Hyuk are truly destined and perfect for each other. Poor, sweet and wonderful Gook Du (Ji Soo) didn’t even stand a chance.
This is a story about strength, inner and outer. It is also a story about knowing yourself, accepting who you are, and finding your purpose in life. The show preaches love is strength and every person’s purpose in life is to live with love… for your spouse, your family, even strangers!
(The only complaint I must mention that with the exception of the main villain/kidnapping story – all the ‘side’ plots are dumb. Gangsters, teen bullies, gay assistants, ex-girlfriends, etc. They really just become time-fillers between the powerful and wonderful that is Bong Soon and Min Hyuk’s story.)

KDrama Review of “Hwarang” (#21)
3 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 7/10
How I rate it: 5/10
Ode to the bromance that could have been! I enjoyed watching “Hwarang,” but I recognize that the writing was lacking and hurt the show in the long run. The show just couldn’t seem to decide what it wanted to be, but it was filled with talent! Park Hyung Sik as Ji Dwi, the faceless king of Silla, totally stole my heart in a big way (#secondleadsyndrome). I was more invested in Ji Dwi and the main character Sun Woo’s friendship than either the romance or the political intrigue. One of my disappointments will always be that their story wasn’t fleshed out as well as it should have been. The boys in the Hwarang were fabulous and my favorite moments in the show was any and each time they were together. Costuming and cinematography is VERY pretty for viewers (not to mention so. many. attractive. men.). I can appreciate the message of this show: Don’t ever give up and always do what you believe is right… even if the whole world says you should.

KDrama Review of “Heartstrings” or “You’ve Fallen for Me” (#20)
3 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 6/10
How I rate it: 5/10
I wanted to watch this because I was among the fans of “You’re Beautiful” who had a major second lead syndrome hangover for Jung Yong Hwa. It was youthful and fun. Park Shin Hye is cute as always. The plot line itself could be rather slow and boring, but the characters make you stay through to the end. Technically, they could have ended it at 13 episodes and it would have rounded off well. Shin has these moments that are boyfriend goals and I am jealous, lol.

KDrama Review of “I Hear Your Voice” (#19)
5 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 9/10
How I rate it: 8/10
Fantastic characters that felt so REAL… a unique and beautiful love story spanning years… universal and timeless themes of honesty, love, sacrifice, forgiveness, and rising above your tragedies… high stakes that will have you chewing all your nails off in anticipation… engaging writing that draws you in… memorable laughs and heart-wrenching tears… I loved this show! To quote a Dramabeans rating: “The noona romance to end all noona romances.” I would recommend this show to any and all viewers as one of the top KDramas in history.
P.S. Between this show and “Pinocchio” (same writer) Lee Jong-Suk has become my ultimate KDrama crush! He’s brilliantly talented and so. darn. Handsome.

KDrama Review of “1% of Something” (#18)
2 out of 5 stars on Drama Fever
How much I enjoyed it: 4/10
How I rate it: 4/10
“1% of Something” was recommended to me quite highly. however, it ended up being not as good as I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, but I just personally felt like it was too “soap opera-y”, petty and dramatic, with no real high-stakes. It moved too slow. The cast was nice and it has a feel good happy ending that most people will likely really enjoy, but it just was not one of my personal favorites.

KDrama Review of “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” (#17)
5 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 10/10
How I rate it: 10/10
I really can’t rave about this show enough. It’s heart-warming and so full of life. The heroine is one of my all time favorite characters. This show made me laugh hysterically so many times, yet delved into some deep, relatable struggles. It is the most pure, feel-good, coming-of-age story I’ve ever watched. The acting was superb, whilst the subject was so unique and exciting. I actually feel honored having been able to watch and be a fan of this show. I love at the end of it the message was really to embrace your youth… despite the clumsiness, mistakes, and fear of the unknown… because that really is what makes life beautiful. The friends to lovers storyline was executed flawlessly in my opinion. I cannot rave about this show enough. This definitely makes top 5 KDramas ever.

KDrama Review of “School 2013” (#14)
5 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 9/10
How I rate it: 8/10
This show is one of the most real and accurate portrayals of the struggle that is “School”… for student and teacher alike. As a secondary English teacher myself I felt so deeply the pressure that Teacher Jung and Kang were under. The need to prepare students for their future, but also caring about each and every one as an individual his and her own story full of success and failure, joy and pain. I fell in love with their students with them and desired to carry them in any and every way I could. From bullying to abuse, gossip to examinations, friendship and guidance… this show touches on so many relatable and profound subjects. This show inspired me to be a better teacher and reminded me that it’s the most important job we have in life to challenge one another to serve, forgive, learn, and love unconditionally. So glad I watched this drama, it is definitely a new favorite! Great stories, great cast, great message. Give “School 2013” a watch!

I’ve been eyeing to this ever since a beanie mentioned how closest it depicts the real student struggles.
Will definitely give this a try before another semester starts. I have alot of kdramas I wanted to pick up this vacation tho.
KDrama Review of “You’re Beautiful” (#13)
3 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 7/10
How I rate it: 6/10
I started this show because it is considered a classic of “KDrama”. It was silly and full of teenage angst, but I really did enjoy it. It made me laugh and want to be in a Korean boy band more than I ever thought possible, haha! I have to admit that I had a small case second lead syndrome up until the end. Park Shin Hye is so clumsy and awkward and I love it. “You’re Beautiful” is an easy, fun watch!

KDrama Review of “The K2”
3 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 7/10
How I rate it: 6/10
“The K2” is a show built around the hero played by Ji Chang Wook. He carries the production admirably. The action sequences are innovative and thrilling with no one like the other. Ji Chang Wook shined and was complimented by a strong cast of supporting actors and interesting characters. I would have liked to see some storylines drawn out in more detail, while others (mainly some of the dragging political focuses) could have been skipped over. This show had some really compelling moments, both with our heroes… and our “villains”. The lines between good and evil are definitely blurred by circumstances and motivations in this one. The show’s way of making you feel for/pity the bad guys is definitely one of its strongest points. Lastly, let’s all have a chuckle about the incessant and strangely timed Subway plugs continually popping up in this one, haha.

KDrama Review of “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds”
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 9/10
How I rate it: 8/10
I really enjoyed “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds”! This is without a doubt my favorite sageuk I’ve every watched (so far, haha!). The overarching theme found in the title (ie: the meaning of “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds”) is surprisingly profound, genuine, and incomparably beautiful.
The cast is fantastic! Park Bo Gum is to die for as the Prince (handsome, strong, considerate, loyal and full of heart). Whilst, Kim Yoo Jung is adorably fun, compassionate, and slightly quirky. Their chemistry is engaging and alluring throughout the drama. There are moments I felt so silly because I couldn’t stop smiling at the two of them!
I must point out though that Kwak Dong Yeon truly stole the screen for me in this drama. Playing the role of the prince’s conflicted bodyguard and best friend, his strength, maturity, steadfast spirit, and divided loyalties really struck my heart and interest. I found myself more and more engaged in his story, at times even more than the main couple’s! Kim Byung Yun has my whole heart in this one!
I really did enjoy the political intrigue of this drama, tempered with humor and truly sweet, romantic moments. The ending was unexpected in a number of ways. Overall, I absolutely would recommend this drama to any fan of romance, history, and action. I especially look forward to seeing the “core four” in many more dramas to come!
Finished: November 2016 (as released)
Loved this show as well. The political aspect of the drama was quite well done. That coupled with Park Bo Gum’s really good acting made it a solid show. Didn’t care too much for Ra On or the actress who played her. I think my bias was because she was so young and it showed. Yoon Sung was to me what Byung Yeon was to you in this show. That character gave me some SLS. Jin Young is quite good as him. That’s not to say that I did not enjoy Byung Yeon though.
KDrama Review of “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo”
2 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 6/10
How I rate it: 4/10
In my opinion this show had it all: great casting, engaging characters, unique plot idea (time-traveling historic romance), strong central conflict, beautiful setting and costuming and an amazing soundtrack! Unfortunately, somewhere between the writing, filming, editing and airing… the focus and heart of the drama were ultimately lost. I was left quite disappointed.

KDrama Review of “Bring It On, Ghost!”
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 9/10
How I rate it: 8/10
This drama had a great combination of suspense, romance, comedy, and mystery. I really fell in love with each and every one of the characters. From the engaging lead couple, to the hilariously awkward best friends, to the totally chilling villain. This is a drama that’s just feel good through and through. I especially loved the ending theme, use your gifts and talents for the benefit of others. The ghost element was done well in my opinion, it could have been cheesy or annoying, but instead it was all quite compelling and memorable. I’m really glad I watched “Let’s Fight Ghost”!

He’s brilliantly talented and so. darn. Handsome.
