I think this was the only scene in the whole entire drama where I had tears streaming down my face… Everything else didn’t really do it, which is weird, considering how much doom and gloom and bloodshed and death there was
Lol Yea, but it also made me question if there was something wrong with me, because I love the drama, it’s actually become one my my Top 3 sageuks, but didn’t cry up a storm or anything, even when characters died, until this bridge scene…. There was a little pang inside of me during the scene when Yeonsangun died, but nope, nothing else XD
If King Yeonjo was able to kill his own son Sado, then I am pretty sure the King is able to kill his own Mother Queen… Dependant of the circumstance (Sado was historically known to be cray-cray, tyrannical, and went on raping rampages), the king doing the killing may be looked down upon by doing such a thing, but then again, no one would stand up and say anything, because it’s the king
Killing a son, though horrific, was viewed as less so from killing a parent in Joseon’s strict Confucian hierarchy. The parent is always above the child, and they hold the concept of filial piety sacred. Yeongjo’s execution of Sado could be viewed as a parent punishing a (dishonorable and probably unfilial) son in the most extreme way. People back then were likely horrified but (given Sado’s reputation) would have viewed it as just.
It would be different if, for example, Yeongjo killed his mother (which DID NOT HAPPEN). People would be plotting for his dethronement stat since he flouted the sacred code of filial piety. That meant he lacked virtue and was fundamentally unfit to be king. Filial piety is why there were some notable queen dowagers who were able to exert great influence during their sons’ reigns. These kings would rather be viewed as weak rulers than unfilial sons.
7DQ question: do ladies who put their hair up with binyeo mean they are married? Ep 10, the only gift that Chae Kyung wanted was a twig to put up her hair.
Yup. Maidens wear their hair in a long braid down the back. Matrons in a bun at the nape of the neck. Queens in a MASSIVE braid over their head. Gisangs in similarly MASSIVE up-dos, but not the braid over the head. Because they are not the Queen.
“No, you’re wrong. You’re my son too. Was it so difficult to say that one thing?” my heart goes out for the king. He just needed some family love! #7DQ

I guess they can. I mean, he’s the king, what can he not do? Probably won’t be seen in a good light considering he’ll basically be killing his mother.
