I grew up watching Hong Kong movies and dramas. Lin Ching Hsia is hands down the best actress in wuxia genre ever. Her gender bending role “Dong Fang Bubai” is so iconic and the best ever.
I didn’t watch her version but she seems so good, much better than the versions made more recently. I really appreciate the acting quality of actors from previous generations. The productions, though less fancy without the assistance of technology, are much better…
Tbh, I am not liking the quality of Hong Kong movies and dramas these days. There’s a valid reason why HK actors are not well-known as the older generation like Lin Ching Hsia, Maggie Cheung and Leslie Cheung just to name a few. Lin’s “Dong Fang Bubai” was a twist since it’s male character portrayed by a very beautiful actress but then, Lin had also done other gender bending role and one of them is in “The 3 Swordsmen” and she was incredible.
