funny thought: have you ever seen a modern drama lead male character under 40 with a beard (NOT sideburns or goatee. A beard)? Everyone has a beard in sageuks, but, like, “no hipsters in Korea!”, huh?
I seriously can’t recall any… I haven’t seen the show but if I remember vaguely, So Ji Sub was quite scruffy in I’m Sorry I Love You..
On the other hand, here in India there is an ongoing “no-shave” trend where many actors are flaunting fully grown beards!
think about it: full on well groomed hipster with a steampunk pocket watch, iPad and a wooden frame smart-bike living in the basement of the Seoul University cause he spends all his money (from giving haircuts) on organic tobacco for smoking in his pipe. He would witness some murky business but since he is a hipster, he reaaaaaallly can´t be bothered. He has to save the whales first and do a dj gig, cause YOLO
yeah and he could be like this smooth operator who has somehow gotten past the “work hard till your nose bleeds” and “1st place or perish” demand – minimal effort with maximum result kind of guy that would really rub every bit of wrong with korean society. Plus, you can´t see half his face and he has a toy dolphin in his beard. the plot? perhaps convincing a girls´ parents he is good marriage, excuse me, cohabitation material despite his lacking specs and weird (sometimes dangerous) hobbies.
i have a feeling it would be one of those stories that puts an everlasting smile on my face, i can imagine him being a bit awkward with women and yet being completely compelling, who would you cast? i can see jo jong seok (i hope the spelling is rigth, the main from oh my ghostess) playing this or perhaps go kyung po? or maybe even park bo-gum (allthough i cannot imagine him with a beard)
I don´t know. someone relatively young-ish, but not too young around 26-27 maybe, and tough and strong despite looking soft. and someone who you´d look at first like ” he is completely nuts, better keep away” to slowly discovering the charms and the surprising range of life experience. Song Jae-Rim? Yoon Kyun Sang?

sounds like a plot to a good story, i’d watch it, would be a refreshing change from typical male leads

Choi Si-won sported one in She Was Pretty, until he shaved it at the end to my endless dismay and disappointment.

Ah! How did I not remember that? And he was a very oddball personality, too! He seriously looked great with a beard!
