The 1988 families really tug at my heartstring. It reminds me of my childhood where we live in a block where everyone grew up together. It’s funny because we also share food around, mothers gossiping, spending meal time together, etc. I also love 1997 and can totally see myself in the characters shoes when I was in highschool but it’s 1988 that I love the most, I can almost see my childhood and family’s story reflected in that drama.
As much as I love Park Bo-gum, I was secretly (or not so secretly) rooting for Ryu Jun-yeol. I guess I have a score to settle with the AM series writer. I’m partly to be blamed though, I never learned my lesson.
Thank goodness I never shipped any couple! It was quite clear in 1997 who the husband will be.
1994 was too much of a headache with all the husband hunting for me to finish.
1988 was just so much more than shipping that I never had to actively take any side. But I have to admit I did think that Ryu Jun Yeol would be ‘it’. His character had all the trappings of the male lead while Taekie was the adorably sweet second lead who I was hoping would atleast not die. Plus I had recently come from IRY so I had a sweet spot for him.
I did wonder if there will be a twist. I wrote this comment way before ep 19:
“I know Taek will not be the end game. Jung Hwan is the archetypal kdrama lead and I really love him too (his crush is too cute). And by now, we all know AM writers well enough to expect what they are going to do. But just in case, the writers try to use that very factor against us? That would be so cool! As in, what if Taek finally gets the girl in the end! That is something beyond my imagination but it would be freakingly cool!”
I am so happy I got to see Ryu Joon Yeol in Lucky romance and fall completely in love with him there!
@obsessedmuch You pretty much sum it all up. That was a pretty cool prediction. Was LOL with you hoping that Taek will not die. After 1994, I was not much into the husband hunt anymore, maybe slight? Hahaha. I haven’t watch Lucky Romance yet because of the mix reviews but I heard Ryu Jun-yeol is one of the best things in that drama.

1997 was heartbreaking. 1988 is my favorite of the three. You might want to give them a try. 😊

Can you put into words why 1988 was your favorite? Or just a feeling?
R97 is my fav but I’ve never rewatched so that might be nostalgia.

The family connections seems to be a popular love amongst beanies.

It definitely was. A caffiene-loaded, sleep-depraved, heartbreaking and funny at the same time, rollercoaster ride that was. 😁

1994. My ship, oh my ship. It was put on 🔥, and as if it was not enough, it was blown away into pieces. Sank into the deeps of the Pacific Ocean.
1988: Because I never learned my lesson, I happen to be on board the same ship again.

Even 1994? I never got around to finishing it! 1997 was great and still a nostalgic favourite, plus SIG is life. But 1988 was all kinds of wonderful!

Yep. It left me scarred for life. 💔 I happen to ship Team Chilbongie, I am still picking up broken pieces of heart 4 years after the fact at that.

Oh I have heard the Chilbongie fever was bad. Please tell me you picked the ship that finally sailed in 1988. Otherwise, that would be quite tragic!
