Beanie level: Noble idiot

OMO I just went on a commenting spree and now I’m a water maid! YAAAAAYYYYYYY (really, the point system did not only make me unlurk, it also made me chatty HAHA)

I haven’t talked about Suspicious Partner’s episode 17-18 because I am still very speechless and I’ll just giddy-flail and be incoherent if I did try.

Now that I’m done with W, it’s time to get back to Healer. I’ve been taking it slow with Healer because I don’t want it to end. Huhu

Okay, my sister and I just finished W. It was exhilarating, but confusing. And I knew I was being manipulated (FEEL THIS! FEEL THAT! BE SHOCKED!) but I was complicit in the manipulation.

4

I guess it didn’t help that I binged the first six episodes, then saw the next two one day, then binged the rest today. I finished it in 3 days and I had all the episodes with me. Even as questions bugged me (how can that happen? Why? Did the rules change again? Why is someone’s arm disappearing?), I didn’t stop to think much about them because I just kept on watching because I WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. I NEED TO HAVE A HAPPY ENDING.

It was only now that I had the time to analyze. I wonder if I followed this one while it was ongoing if my interest would have waned by the second half when I had the time to think about all the questions and what is lacking. But since I didn’t have the time to care about world building rules (the show didn’t as well), I just went with what the writer was pulling, what feelings I was supposed to feel.

Anyway, I still like this show. Not love, which makes me sad because at 2AM when I finished episode 6 I was so sure everyone was wrong, HOW COULD THIS ONE HAVE A MEH LATTER HALF? THIS IS PERFECT. Oh well.

Also I couldn’t love it because the romance fell flat to me. The first timeline was cute at best but after the reset, I just didn’t buy it. I wanted a happy ending for them but it wasn’t because of the romance, it was because I wanted Kang Chul to be a ~real boy~ in the ~real world~ being ~happy~ and being happy meant Oh Yeon Joo. Or maybe I didn’t buy it because Lee Jong Seok never appealed to me? I dunno.

I feel like I have more words but it’s 2:30AM and I have work in a while. Will word vomit more when I get my thoughts in order too.

Love these thoughts, dear! Very much what I felt while watching the show live. It’s still a drama that I enjoyed because of its unique set up, but half way through, my interest definitely flagged. Still crack-tastic, though!

      1
      1

It was definitely crack-tastic! I think binging it help me turn blind to its flaws while watching because it was such an addicting ride. If I followed it week per week, giving me a week to internalize and turn the whole episodes around, I might have been as angry/disappointed as a lot of people.

As it is, I was amazed at the unique and innovative meta wonderland that it is and how effective was it in wringing emotions (more in the vein of panic and worry and anxiety) out of me, and while I’m not dissatisfied per se, I’m also not satisfied. Does that make sense? Haha!

        1
        1

That hurt so much. Huhuhu Oh Yeon Joo. Still, why did she get inside the manhwa again? Am I just supposed to accept it or is it gonna be explained?

2
10

It’s going to be sort of explained.

    3
    1

This could pretty much be the tagline for that entire drama.

      2
      2

lol, true… I find it still very addicting and it’s my absolute favorite drama.

Also I don’t know what episode you are at right now but judging from your last posts it’s after the dream reset… I just recently rewatched the entire drama and but I can’t remember if they ever explicitly said why she was dragged into the manwha during the shooting emergency, but it is going to be explained why she gets dragged in even if Kang Chul isn’t thinking of her.

        2
        1

Yeah, by now I get why but for that sole instance, still nada. Oh well, I’m fine with it as long as this rollercoaster doesn’t end huhu I’m loving it!

          1
          0

HAHAHAHAHA I’m not yet done with it (4 more eps!) but I also agree that tagline’s very apt

W: Two Worlds. Another show that I like.

    1
    1

Done with it and overall, I like it too! Do you have any drama recs for me? Haha!

      2
      1

Queen In-Hyuns Man – if you like the fantasy element

Orange Marmelade – if vampire stories are your thing. This show is my absolute favorite in this genre and its in my opinion way underappreciated

Secret Love Affair – if you are into steamy (for k-drama) affairs with superb classical music… gosh, I gotta go rewatch

@peachnita I LOVE QUEEN IN-HYUN’S MAN WITH A PASSION EEEEEKKK AAAAAAAAA

Will check out Orange Marmalade and Secret Love Affair then! Thanks for the recs!

Oh, is that why you pronounce it as DOUBLE but you spell it as DOBLE?? HAHAHA #Healer

    I never even noticed that!

I only noticed it with this episode, I don’t know if that sign was already shown prior to ep8. Cracked me up though HAHA

I really do want to watch Father is Strange. Is binging it at the end the better choice or maybe binging 4 or 6 eps at a time maybe?

2
8

I think it is a drama that is perfect to be followed each week. It could be a bit tiring for binge watch because of 50 epi. And now this drama is already 28 epi, you can start watch it now. I love it, but I can wait for each epi patiently.

    1
    1

Hmm, maybe I should kind of “binge” the available episodes now so I can finally keep up and follow it per week. I like what you said about loving it but it not causing you to be a ball of anxiety waiting for the episodes every week. Hmm, maybe that’s the magic of feel-good weekend dramas? They’re easy to watch? Haha!

      1
      1

I had this same thought. I decided to start it recently anyway, and rather than treating it like a regular must watch drama, I’ll just watch it when I’m out of new stuff or need something that’s not too taxing to watch. I figure I can get through two or three episodes a week, since at this point getting invested in one of the other new dramas will break me.

I have to say, it’s pretty cute so far, and Lee Yuri is giving me serious hair envy. (Her hair is so shiny and bouncy. Makes me regret cutting all mine off.)

    2
    1

How do you even get out of new stuff to watch though??? Teach me your ways, songsaengnim. Haha! Eek, I’ll queue this in for this long weekend. It’s a three-day weekend in the Philippines! Counting down the days…

I made an executive decision to wait to start Lookout, Duel, and My Sassy Girl. (Though I’m undecided on Forest of Secrets. Strongly suspect recaps are gonna decide it for me.) This way I only have to double up on episodes on Mondays (Fight My Way & Circle). Plus most shows have ended for the summer here in the US, so I it’s not hard to keep up with my drama these days. I’m also not binge watching any new dramas I until this cycle ends.

        1
        1

Oh, right, I have that extra problem of catching up on the kdramas I missed all those years ago. Maybe that’s why I can’t catch a break AND I’M HAPPY ABOUT THAT hahaha

          1
          1

I also just finished episode 7 of Healer and AAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAaaa

I just finished episode 7 of W-Two Worlds and I\’m afraid to continue… Supposedly, the latter half isn\’t that great, right? Huhuhu

I personally loved it a LOT. Its my favorite drama. But many have issues with the changing rules, that are never really explained and some twist that don’t really get resolved. Just keep watching. It is so interesting that for me it was easy to overlook the flaws.

    1
    1

Oh, I don’t mind all the changing rules for now. I actually love that it throws me in for a loop and every episode makes me go ???!?!?!?! *NEED THE NEXT EP*. Maybe I’ll be in your camp, those who’d love it. *fingers crossed* Sadly, I promised my sister we’ll watch 8 onwards together and she isn’t coming home until tomorrow. I am so tempted to watch it now and then just watch it again with her, her none the wiser. Hahaha!

      1
      2

I know this feeling so well XD DON’T DO IT! Its way more fun to speculate and suffer together 😀

        1
        2

And I feel bad because my sister never gets to finish kdramas if she’s not watching it with someone else. She’s not obsessed like I am. So she has seen until ep7 beforehand but ultimately stopped because school got busy and she didn’t have anyone to talk to about it either so she stopped. Then I started watching it last night and she even saw it with me AGAIN. So okay, okay, I did promise her. I’ll keep it. Thank you for dousing me with the figurative cold water! Hahaha

For now, I’ve queued up Healer! Hihihi. It’d be a great distraction haha

          1

I watch some of my dramas with my sister. She is very picky and sometimes drops Shows midway. But I’m rather persistent or obsessed. I hence sometimes sneakily watch the Shows without her and later watch it again with her too😉..

        1
        2

Is that why you’re DramaNinja? You’re as sneaky as a ninja? Haha!

          6

            Haha😂 sure I am, aren’t I ?

            0
            0

Your sister’s similar to mine though! Very picky and she drops them when her interest wanes off. What dramas have you seen together? Maybe my sister and I can bond over those too!

            0
            0

@whoopeeyoo my sis is a comedy junkie.. So mostly it is Rom-Coms and legal dramas(as she’s a lawyer) she likes. But she loves the Shows only as long as they are funny or exciting and her interest wanes right around the angst phase of the drama. Very few dramas manage to hold her interest for till the end. Some of the stuff off the top of my head that we watched together till the end were Kill Me Heal Me, Pinnocchio, Can You Hear My Heart, I Can Hear Your Voice, Goblin, Sly And Single, 1% Of Anything. We are still stuck around epi 11 of our SWDBS watching..!

            1
            0

Also I cannot for the life of me stop midway in a drama. I need to know how it ends. Very few shows manage to throw me off.

            0
            0

Thank you for the recs, @dramaninja! I’ll try to make her watch those kdramas with me.

            0
            0

@dramaninja I can drop dramas but I still want to know what happens (what is this affliction and love for stories and the need to know the ending) so I read recaps or spoilers or reviews HAHAHA

😅Also i remember we were literally rolling on the floor while watching Rooftop Prince. Also she used to enjoy watching Potato Star.

          0

Just carry on watching. It gets a bit convoluted but it’s still an amazing show.

    1
    1

Oh and wait for your sister.

      1
      1

I will! I’ll get to watch W again in less than 24 hours so YAY! And yes, Healer is great and I’m loving it! Mostly started watching it for my Suspicious Partner withdrawals but it’s sooooo good!

        1
        0

I don’t know about anyone else but for me, i love W.. and you should continue watching it with your sister.. i envy you for having a great buddy to watch with 😁

    1
    1

She rarely watches kdramas so I don’t really have her as a kdrama buddy but maybe I’ll get her addicted. Hahaha! Glad to know you love W! Now I’m feeling like I shouldn’t have feared/doubted W. Hee

I was planning on doing a Why You Should Watch: My Secret Romance submission but then the drama decided to suck so there goes that plan…

7
8

    I feel you…

    2
    1

I was so fond of it! Huhu. Operative word being WAS since my feelings are all mixed now.

      2
      1

Yeah… I didn’t even watch the last few episodes… it was fun in the self aware that I’m stupid so let’s have fun with it way.

Then, I’m not sure at what point, it became unbearably awful. Maybe because it started to act like it was serious? ?

        2
        1

I think that’s where it lost its steam too. When it decided to have a late-game angst-fest

          0
          0

The crazy thing about that drama is that I would have recommended it as an intro to people who are new to Kdramas because it managed to cover many tropes you would find in its genre and then some–the list is long. Then, as you said, it decided to suck. Sigh.

    2
    1

YES! And while it employed soooo many tropes, it was also able to subvert some of them or at least make it comical. For example, two people bumping into each other is SO COMMON but include a cake and then we have a messy bump-into, where the hero even drops the heroine! Le sigh.

      1
      0

At this point I refuse to watch the ending. …

I\’m not that into sageuks but one thing that can make me watch one is @javabeans and @girlfriday recommending it. Soon, Seven Day Queen, soon.

I watched the first two episodes and thought they were well done. I struggle a bit sometimes when the bearded men in the hats get going. Not too much of that so far.

    1
    1

I’m waiting for the whole drama to finish so I can just binge it. I usually struggle when the focus is on those guys/political issues so to hear that it isn’t really one of those sageuks is making me excited!
