Haha! I startled at the fan that I turned on two seconds ago. So, I’m not a good gauge of what should or shouldn’t make normally balanced people startle.
I think he (or the show) had forgotten that she’s a Taekwondo master. My favorite part of that scene was him urging Bong Hee not to turn her back on Hyun Soo and they both look over and see him writhing around on the ground. And Bong Hee just blandly looks back at him like…he’s not going anywhere.

when Bong Hee fly-kicks Hyun Soo in the guts, Ji Wook is like “Um, do I know this scary woman? I want mommy. Must not show fear…”

I thought he looked at her like…woah. hot.
And a bit of fear. She popped up from literally nowhere to fly through the air and knock that fool out.

to be honest, one should be even more startled if anyone flew out of nowhere and knock someone out. but he knows she is a taekwondo master.
