Noooooo, the curls are gone!!!

As much as his curls bothered me in the promo stuff—I didn’t even notice them. Didn’t notice them when he had them and didn’t notice them when they disappeared until someone mentioned it. I’m not super observant though.

He was working them so fine and they suited his puppy good guy personality, so I wasn’t paying attention to them as well. But the sudden change – of course I’d notice. He still looks fine, though…

Gotta Catch (Up With) ‘Em All, ep.6 – Manhole (e7-12): Loong six hours. Such an easy way, to make Jae-hyun a psychopath (btw, wow), so Pil will be the obvious better choice. And he will learn nothing.

I feel so attacked right now.

Gotta Catch (Up With) ‘Em All, ep.5 – Reunited Worlds (e25-36): Eh… I somehow lost almost all the investment I\’ve had. Everything is so easy and so unrealistic. Suporting cast is a winner though.

I’m so far behind…I was really interested even though I had some issues with it but…the issues kept getting bigger and there were so many other really good dramas to watch. I’ll go back to it though. I like the supporting cast too.

    1
    2

Exactly! The issues keep getting bigger, as our heroes keep having everything they need, and when they need it, given on a silver plate. The whole fantasy premise was played out in such a unrealistic way (oh the irony!), I could barely handle it (the guy who killed you sees you’ve returned from the dead, and he’s like ‘eh, it’s not a big deal, lol’). Yeo Jin-gu is doing wonders with this role, but sadly even he could not keep me interested. It’s almost over, so I’ll finish it, but it really disappointed me.

      1
      1

They could have made this so complex and interesting but instead they just dropped the ball. They were way to many holes to this and the characters weren’t responding realistically. Yknow what’s crazy all the scenes set in the past were way better too. Sigh it was hard to watch Yeo Jin-gu go from Circles script to this one.

        1
        1

It also could have been a very simple story, slice of life with a fantasy twist. It could’ve been just about dealing with the loss of a loved one and what if you had another chance to meet them. If they went purely in that direction it could’ve been such a beautiful, wistful story. But instead we got this… Eh. I agree, scenes from the past are all very good.

          1
          1

Yes! Awww there were so many possibilities…but yknow what? What about a theme of the month where you pick a drama that you thought had promise & sort of rewrite it?

            1
            0

Such a good idea! I’ve been fooled by the premise more than once (often with a disastrous result), so I wouldn’t mind writing about my betrayed hopes.

Catching up with dramas means catching up with OSTs. Well, I’ve listened to this one. And I’m in tears. Sometimes ‘beautiful’ or ‘perfect’ seem like such weak words.

Goblin is still my obsession of choice, including the soundtrack, so it’ll be hard to knock that one of its pedestal, but this is quickly becoming my second!

        1
        1

In Goblin all songs are great, they are so in tune with the feel of the drama. The King Loves has few nice tracks, but this one definitely stands out. Something like Moon Lovers, which had nice but forgettable songs (still loving Taeyeon’s and Davichi’s though!), but one – ‘I Will Be Back’ – had such an emotional punch that you were tearing up just hearing it. It was a mood maker.

          1
          2

You and I must have the same taste in music! I liked the moon lovers OST as well. And I Will Be Back Was my favorite. That ethereal voice! Loved it. I agree, the OST here reminds me of ML, but better!!!

Ohh, someone else is watching this! What do you think so far?

    1

I like it. For now it’s nothing groundbreaking, just a cute romance, but I’m enjoying its sweet vibe. The lead finally started to express some emotions (that smile!), so I’m eager to see more. And the second lead! Give me all the dimples! 😁 What do you think?

      1
      1

I’m pretty sure I like it. It’s cute and colorful and fluffly, and I like the leads, but not sure how I feel about the second leads? (Full disclosure, have not watched episode 5 yet.)

I really like the female lead character (and actress — Joanne Tseng is one of my faves), and her honesty and her pratfalls. The relationship between the two feels really organic, and I love how he’s slowly opening up to her and he’s honest about his feelings (though I think he’s wrong about how he thinks he feels — boy, you got a crush, admit it).

My main problem is probably that I’m still scarred from Perfect Match and am worried that this show may suddenly go downhill.

        0
        2

Ah, you didn’t see the ep 5 yet. Well, after watching it, I’m now sure that the lead is lying to himself, or simply does not realize what he’s feeling. It was a good episode, so you should catch up quickly 🙂

I’m also kind of wary of TW shows, but I decided to give this one, and Memory Love, a chance (gotta take a breather from all the Korean shows, at least for an hour or two 😜). We can only hope it stays the way it is now. But it’s a TW show, you won’t escape the drama.

          1
          5

Oh, you’re brave, I can’t bring myself to watch Memory Love. That looks a little too crazy and makjang. I’ve usually had one TW drama in the mix for a while now, so I’ll be keeping this one around. Will likely watch ep. 5 tonight or tomorrow.

I usually expect my TW shows to go a little off the rails, but usually it’s only for an episode or two, but Perfect Match just drrrraaaaggggged out the crazy (like five episodes or something?). Many a rant was had here about it.

            1
            0

So, the conclusion is: do NOT watch Perfect Match. Okay, I’ll stay away from it. Thanks for the heads up 😁

As for Memory Love, the premise does sound very makjang-like, but for now it’s not that bad. I like the adorkable hero (though he often seems like a major jerk cause he’s tsundere to the bone) and I root for the heroine with all my heart, she’s such a sweetheart. I really like the actress, Mandy Wei, in general, she the reason why I decided to pick up this drama. For now I’m enjoying it. We’ll see if it goes full makjang on me.

            2
            0

I like Mandy, but I feel like every drama I see her in she’s a candy with memory issues. But maybe if it looks like it doesn’t go too far into crazytown I’ll consider it.

Also, if you ever do want to watch Perfect Match just stop at like episode 15 or so. It was so so so good until that point — chemistry beyond belief with the leads, interesting premise, cool side characters, only one second lead I wanted to stab. But then…then the insane happened. Still so bitter I spent 22 hours on that mess.

I am considering trying either The Masked Lover or Love Timeless both of which look cute. Have you seen either? The latter looks a touch dramatic, but the cast seems good.

            0

Unfortunately, I have not. I got back to TW dramas just recently, with Attention, Love and Memory Love, and since then I only managed to watch Bromance and Someone Like You. But reading about it, they both seem interesting. After trying out the ones I’ve found (Behind Your Smile – because the premise sounds kind of nice, and Fall in Love With Me – because I need me some Aaron Yan) I might check them out 🙂

            1
            0

I loooooved Behind Your Smile — that was the kinda melodrama I can get behind. But not even Aaron could get me through Fall in Love With Me. The female lead in that was so terrible I spent 95% of what I could get through yelling at my laptop. Personally, I loved Aaron in Refresh Man with Joanne Tseng — they had awesome chemistry (and the BTS are so adorable). Hands down my fave TW drama of all time. It’s my comfort show because the two of them are just so awesome start to finish.

            1
            0

Gosh, thank you! I was thinking of watching Fall in Love With Me for a long time, but if the female lead is unbearable, so much that even Aaron Yan can’t save it (!), then I won’t even bother. Then I guess Behind Your Smile is going to be my next drama to watch.

Ah, Refresh Man… It was so good, Aaron was good, Joanne was good, their chemistry was out of this world. I loved it. I also liked Aaron in Just You, though it’s been a loooong time since I’ve watched it (I think it was my first TW drama ever).

          1
          8

I just… the female lead in FILWM she had one expression, and it was perma-sad face. EMOTE. I got through 12 episodes before I realized I was grinding my teeth watching. Plus the second female lead made me crazy too. I read spoilers for the end because I thought I could power through the bad, but it just went from bad to batshit crazy as far as I can tell. The only redeeming quality of that show was Aaron’s insanely over-the-top outfits as his CEO persona.

Loved Just You though, and I like Puff. She was cute in Love Myself or You/Pleasantly Surprised where she played a polar opposite character (I mean the drama had some issues, but was overall pretty good). But I think Refresh Man just ruined other dramas for me, even though it’s not perfect by any means, it’s pretty damn awesome.

Poor Aaron. I wanted to watch it because of him… Sadface.

Puff was sooo adorable in Just You, I loved her. Their chemistry was awesome as well. The female second lead, though. She was the worst. Been thinking about watching Love Myself or You, because of Puff and Jasper Liu.

Yup, Refresh Man was one of better recent TW dramas. I wasn’t very into most of the supporting characters’ stories, but Aaron and Joanne were perfect (especially him 😍)

I liked LMOY, though I’m not crazy about Jasper, personally. There was one bit in the middle which caused me to put it on hold for a while, but I did eventually pick it back up and finish it, and I don’t regret it. The main pairing is really cute, and all the side characters are a hoot.

Have you seen Love Cuisine? That is another fave, and it had a really similar vibe to RM. Same with Murphy’s Law of Love.

I haven’t seen neither of them, but I’ve heard a lot about Murphy’s Law of Love. Guess that’s another two I can add to the ‘to watch’ list. I’m very thankful for all the recommendations and opinions 🙂

            1
            0

Haha, no problem. I’ve been keeping one TW drama in the mix most of the time for the last year or so, so if you need more recs, let me know. MLL is super cute, and only irritating for like one episode at most, and barely that. (I feel like there’s a rule that every TW drama has to be irritating for at least a small chunk of it’s run). Plus it’s only 15 eps I think? I just remember finishing it really fast.

            1
            0

I think it’s a cool idea. Lately, I tend to get overwhelmed by Korean dramas. Not tired of them (never!), but I simply want to see something different. And picking up a TW drama, which is so different from Korean ones is a nice change. And I’m already watching two TW dramas (and the third one from the finished ones), so I guess this schedule will remain for now. And with so many recommendations from you, I will have my hands full for a while (thank you again!).

So true. I recently finished Someone Like You, and besides its makjang premise I loooved it. Didn’t get into the supporting cast that much, but the leads were amazing, I could watch them for days. I loved it almost throughout its entire run, but of course they had to get annoying, and at the very last moment at that. I guess TW dramas can’t help themselves and feel the urge to be irritating at times.

            1
            0

I’ve been going back and forth on Someone Like You — I may give it a shot because I like the male lead, but it does look hella makjang. Maybe I’ll give it a shot though if you say it’s good.

Yeah, I was really underwhelmed by the kdrama selection at the start of the year, but I actually started getting into TW dramas in earnest last year; luckily because the selection is a little less varied and the episodes are so long I can make them last longer. I do have a decent sized list of them to get to, so I may try a new one in addition to Attention, Love soon considering almost nothing in this cycle of kdramas is really hitting the spot for me other than School 2017 which is basically over. I also started getting into J-doramas recently which are shorter and a little easier to binge when there’s time constraints. Plus they have a really different vibe, but in a good way.

            1
            0

The premise is very makjang, but the execution is not, at least for most of the time. I would say it was very normal, considering the plot. The leads are the heart of this show. The scenes with them, their interactons, the progress of their relationship – this is where the drama shines. There were no misunderstandings between them, because the moment the problem arose, they were talking things out, like proper adults. Of course, the noble idiocy had to kick in at a certain point, but that was also resolved pretty quickly. The only problem I had with Someone Like You, was that they overdramatized last few episodes. It served as a closure to one of the characters, but I still think it was hella unnecessary. But still, even for the leads themselves (I had no idea Kingone Wang was such a lead material. The only instances I’ve seen him, way back in the day, he was completely overshadowed by Mike He. But in Someone Like You he was so good) it’s worth checking out.

School 2017 ❤ I’m also watching few others, and lately I’m enjoying The King Loves (only because of Hong Jong-hyun though). The others are cute, but you’re right, these days none of the ongoing dramas has this ‘wow’ factor, something that would make me glued to the screen.

As for Japanses shows, I’ve never really been into them. I actually started with them (manga/anime adaptions), then switched to TW, and then I discovered Korean dramas. Seeing those, Japanese seemed a lot less interesting, also I prefred acting and the overall execution in Korean dramas. But the few Japanese I’ve watched, I remember enjoying them.

Was it angsty or overly melodramatic? I’m curious in case I watch it someday.

I was ready for a real drama, because right from the start we had a blind hero, mourning over his fiancée and a heroine that looks just like the said fiancée. When I read about the second lead that gets fiancée’s heart transplanted, I was almost sure it will be like a makjang, but suprisingly, it was kind of a calm show. Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot that was happening, but mostly of the time, our leads were solvng the problems by an honest talk. And the heroine was such a sunshine, I loved how she slowly brought him back to life.

The drama is there, in my opinion very unnecessarily (except for to give a closing to one of the characters), but it’s manageable. Of course, we have a noble idiocy episode, but this one’s short-lived. I was thingking that, as most TW dramas are, the drama will be up to a hundred, so I was pleasantly suprised.

You definitely should! The leads are winning. When the guy was in the darkness, it was the girl that pulled him out. And when the girl was selfless to the point of stupidity and ready to shoulder the blame of literally everybody, he was there to help her, support her and explain just how silly that is. I loved them so much together.

I think the really difficult parts come towards the end, I mean the noble idiocy and the last minute drama. I was enjoying it a lot for almost its entire run. There is some drama, of course, but until the noble idiocy kicks in, the problems are mostly solved in a normal way, quickly, and the drama ends. Of course, the male second lead is whole another story (he was soo insane), but his bs didn’t really interfere with the leads so much.

Yes, it is. I definitely recommend it. The synopis may sound a little dramatic, but it’s not that bad. I’m at the finish (just ep 19 and 20 left) and I have to say this is one of the better TW dramas I’ve seen in a long while. The OTP is beyond amazing together; I especially fell in love with the heroine, she is such a cute, endearing character. When noble idiocy kicks in it’s kind of hard to handle, but as I posted, the hero is there to knock some sense into his beloved, so this stupidity is short-lived. But when it’s good, it’s a real pleasure to watch.
