I love seeing all the k-poppers show up on the fan wall! I follow a wide range of k-pop artists, but my fav group is Shinee. This is one my favorite performances because they’re having fun being dorks
Hah, yeah we finally have a place to release all the k-ranting/fangirling that no one else wants to listen to kkk 😉
Most of Shinee’s songs aren’t my style, but they’so talented and really good performers. I LOVE seeing them in variety shows, I’ll never get why Key says they’re boring (or that he’s not handsome, like.. WHAT?). They always manage to make me laugh ^^
I would be lying if I say that right now I am attracted to kpop for its songs cuz I understand nothing apart from the beats (or wait for the subs and appreciate the songs then)!
What I am instead loving is random variety appearances and SHINee (and older groups like SuJu, Shinhwa and Sechskies) members are awesome there. Maybe that is why I am in love with them!
Ha, same! Or, actually, I started out with K-ballads (Park Hyo Shin’s “Wildflower” and MC the Max’ “Wind that Blows” are stunning and to blame for all my Korean music addiction), then became addicted to watching idol-variety-kings on variety shows. It’s one of the few things that can ALWAYS cheer me up. I don’t get most kpop songs, most of the groups sound the same to me, but there’s some amazing Korean music from non-dance groups especially!
I have lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it and it moves me just as much every single time. The control he’s got of his voice and it’s volume and how he utilizes it to sing with emotion is just. so. good. He sang it on Yoo Hee Yeol’s sketchbook not long ago and tears were literally streaming down his face by the end, not just a single lone tear or misty eyes, but literally streaming. He gets so into his songs. There’s a reason he’s known as one of the top three/four(?) male singers in Korea.
Okay… fangirling over lol, sorry. Anyway, go listen to it and if you want more recs for him, just let me know 😉
That’s why I haven’t added too many new groups lately. I understand the hype for BTS, but I don’t really care for them because they’re doing the same old stuff that older groups like SJ, Shinee, MBlaq, TVXQ, etc. did when they debuted.
The reason why I love Shinee is they like to push the envelope. They’ve been able to take more control of their image/music. If you ever listen to a whole cd, there’s anything from a slow ballad to a fun pop song to a dance track. Try out “Ode to You” or “Symptoms” if you want something slow and beautiful.
For ballads, I loooove K. Will. His songs are so good, and his voice is beautiful.
True. I mean, I like a few of BTS’ songs, but not enough to really listen to them. 2nd gen is the best, but there’s also certain trends to that era that make lots of songs kind of the same, even though the era definitely created many classics that get seriously stuck in your mind ha.
Yeah, I like how you can’t clearly define Shinee’s style and there are definitely some songs of theirs that I like. Especially love “View” and Taemin’s “Drip Drop” (which of course isn’t Shinee-Shinee, but you know).
Some newer groups, like Mamamoo, Winner and Block B, can’t be genre-defined either and have tons of talent and very memorable songs. Seo In Guk’s music is like that too, but even though he’s kpop, he’s not an idol of course lol. Kpop is a much broader term domestically and covers a wide variety of genres, I mean even trot can be Kpop in Korea, so I technically listen to a lot of Kpop, it’s just not what most people internationally understand to be Kpop 😛 Which sometimes confuses me in conversations, cause I’m never sure whether people are using the international or domestic definition. And now I got sidetracked. Must be the tiredness, sorry! :O
Yes, K.Will is great! 1toK is great for subbed mv’s, I love them.
@kaybee kpop like kdramas tend to follow the same batch of trends within a time frame. For awhile It’ll be dubstep then jazz then aegyo then sexy, etc. So I guess the real trick is finding the group who does that trend best, finding groups of different timeframes, and/or indie groups. I do a little of all three.
Try out the YouTube channel 1toK. They always sub the songs they post. I usually have subs on or I’ll Google the translation. Fans are really fast on getting translations up.
I love that performance too! I have seen that more than their TV performances of that song lol
Taemin’s hips + Minho’s camerawork + Onew supporting/teasing Taemin + Jonghyun running to his chair at the end = love
Key is the only one out of it but he was probably fighting a hangover from the Drinking Solo party the night before lol
I just watched it :O
Darn it was hard enough to find that one with eng sub 🙁
It’s their interview on the yang and nam show where they all act as if they’re a different member…
Ah, I remember seeing this when it first came out without subs. It was funny then, but it’s much funnier with the subs.
Onew really did a good job as Key, as did Taemin as Jonghyun.

SHINee and f(x) always seem to explore greater experimental sounds. They’re great groups to check out.

That’s partly how I started. I found FT Island and CN Blue through You’re Beautiful but then youtube suggestions got me into everyone else.
