Dynamite was good but reminded me too much of SHINee’s View (same compositor) and Closer didn’t have a big impact compared to their previous title tracks. It could have been better as a B-side track.
I think out of their title tracks. Imo Fantasy is such a good song that its instrumental itself is worth listening. I like Ken’s solo I don’t want to be an idol. Artists personal songs are often on my playlist. G.R.8.U is a bright song that’s not to cheesy or too cringy. Beautiful Liar mixed well Ravi’s and Leo’ voices. The piano and the song’s vibe consumed me.
Only U, hyde and On and On can’t be forgotten, they are superb.
It’s interesting that you mentioned Vixx’s Dynamite with View – normally people compare it with SHINee’s Dynamite, even though they sound nothing alike. I agree with you about Closer – it didn’t have the same punch as Fantasy or Dynamite. Fantasy definitely didn’t get the love it deserved.
I love Ken and Leo’s voices in I Don’t Want to be an Idol. I loved G.R.8.U as well. Love Equation was a good brighter song of theirs, but I never warmed up to it because until Error, I’d heard Vixx songs, but never really stanned them. It wasn’t until Error, that I really started to like Vixx and explore their discography, so Love Equation was a bit of a let down. I really liked Milky Way as well.
Some of their songs like Light Up the Darkness and Secret Night are really nice as well. I think off of the Beautiful Liar EP, I liked Remember the most, but I definitely liked Beautiful Liar as well. If you haven’t already, I definitely recommend that you check out Shadow (Depend on Me album) – it’s one of Leo’s better composed songs.
Just because SHINee have a song called Dynamite people compared the two even it they’re different. When the teaser came out for Fantasy, I knew already it would be one of their greatest song on a composition level.
I’m not a Starlight but I recognize their talent. Leo’s voice blends well with the other members’. I like his collaboration with Lyn too. I enjoyed Beautiful Liar the most but Remember was really good as well.
I’m not used to their bright side because I discovered them with On and On. Love Equation was a remake and I understand that they can’t do their usual style. Mily Way was ok tho. I loved Light Up The Darkness when it got released ! Secret Night is good as well like most of their songs in general.
I didn’t know Shadow because I don’t follow their japanese releases. It is definitely the style of songs that’s reminding me of VIXX with their special aura. Can you recommend me other Japanese songs ?
For Vixx, I’d recommend Shadow and Depend on Me from their Japanese album Depend on Me. Echo is a hype song (you can find it on the same uploader’s channel as the one in the link below). Can’t Say is a brighter style, but not my cup of tea. Goodbye Your Love is also a brighter song, but better than Can’t Say. With Me is composed by Ravi, and is worth checking out.
Japanese releases from other artists I’d recommend are
Fly High and Fire Flame (from BAP’s latest Japanese release)
Whole Lotta Lovin’ – Beast
Cross Gene’s Ying Yang album
Tactix – Exo’s latest J-release
FT Island’s United Shadows
Infinite’s Dilemma and 24 Hours
She’s Got Me – LAU/Lu:kus
How to Cry – 100%

I loved the water floor dance scene. It reminded me of Love Me Do.
Ravi’s voice mixed with N’s sounded so nice.

Yes I love that scene too. Leo’s part in the MV looks good too.
I like that Ravi’s rap is well incorporated in the song. This song and Fantasy are my favorite VIXX songs.

Closer too. Personally, I didn’t like Closer as much as Dynamite and Fantasy.
Are Fantasy and Shangri-La your favorites out of their whole discography or just from the recent releases?

Thanks 😀 I normally only listen to FT Island, SHINee, BEAST (Highlight), TVXQ, BIG BANG and a bit of CN Blue’s Japanese songs.

Those are basically my core j-releases as well. 👍
