A water maid was a female staff in the palace, one of the lowest in the hierarchy, often doing errands or laundry. One of the most famous one is in the Sageuk “Dong-yi” and even if the Sageuk isn’t a 100% accurate, she really did exist and she really went from water maid to concubine to the next king’s mother!

oh! i haven’t watched Dong – yi. I landed on Dramaland only in 2014. Haven’t check yet those old-good-dramas. 🙂
