KDrama Review of “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” (#22)
4 out of 5 stars on DramaFever
How much I enjoyed it: 8/10
How I rate it: 6/10
I have come to find that I truly love shows best where the heroine has this one unique gift and it transforms everything about the story. Bong Soon’s superhuman strength is wonderful and fun, with this actually really great message.
Every week I looked forward to watching this show. I laughed so many times, found myself gripping my blankets during some of the intense scenes, and felt my own heart fluttering a million miles a minute throughout. Park Bo Young as Bong Soon is vibrant, spirited, and so talented. She carries the heart of the show spectacularly. Park Hyung Sik (Min Hyuk) matches her in every way with his adorable quirkiness, tempered by these all-consuming, melting gazes. There is no other way to describe the romance in this show other than show-stopping. The chemistry is REAL. Bong Soon and Min Hyuk are truly destined and perfect for each other. Poor, sweet and wonderful Gook Du (Ji Soo) didn’t even stand a chance.
This is a story about strength, inner and outer. It is also a story about knowing yourself, accepting who you are, and finding your purpose in life. The show preaches love is strength and every person’s purpose in life is to live with love… for your spouse, your family, even strangers!
(The only complaint I must mention that with the exception of the main villain/kidnapping story – all the ‘side’ plots are dumb. Gangsters, teen bullies, gay assistants, ex-girlfriends, etc. They really just become time-fillers between the powerful and wonderful that is Bong Soon and Min Hyuk’s story.)
