Took a break from Kdramaland, proceeds to go down the Kpop rabbit hole instead thanks to an accidental discovery and inevitable binge-watching of Produce 101 season 2.

I took a break from Kpop and went down the Kdrama rabbit hole /o\ But I’ve dug myself back out… and am now balancing Kpop and Kdramas ?

You need to give me some tips on that. I keep falling into one of these holes. I am in the K-pop one right now.

During semester I stick to one airing drama and some web dramas/ drama specials in between!

For K-pop I just keep up with MVs (I go to 1theK or CJENM’s YouTube), listen to albums while doing the dishes, and steer clear of variety shows/ browsing other YouTube videos. Because one video/ show leads to another and before you know it you’ll be watching 8 things at once and have no time for anything else! I also keep off Tumblr, the ultimate culprit for tripping us down fandom rabbit holes.

          Thanks for the advice!
That’s what I am planning to do, since I am starting the university on Monday! (*excited**scared*)
I have actually already come up with something similar and written it all down, so I hope I’ll stick to it. Especially the rule of on other K-pop videos than MVs. (I can spend hours on Youtube without noticing it, really!) I don’t do Tumblr (luckily?), so I don’t have that to deal with.
The only problem is comebacks (as you have stated below) – live performances and a lot of new stuff…

Good luck! You’ll probably want to lay low Kpop/ Kdrama-wise the first two weeks, it’s the most important period to figure out your schedule for the semester (when your tests are, when assignments are due) and to get a head start on your readings. Make a list of your readings and deadlines so you don’t forget an essay that’s due and have to rush it out overnight! More than studying super hard, being organised is key to not drowning in university. Trust me on this, it kept me afloat for 10 semesters and counting (I’m in grad school now).

Also, someone mentioned this on OT a while back, but never start a show first thing in the morning or in the middle of the day. Plan for 1-2 evenings, a couple of hours where you reward yourself/ unwind from the week by watching shows or catching up on Kpop. A regular leisure schedule is easier to keep and won’t eat into the time you need for other work (:

Thanks for the valuable advice, sunbaenim! (We are not in the same university, but technically you are my sunbae.) I’ve bookmarked this page for further reference. 🙂
I haven’t been watching dramas for a while now since I’ve been stressed / busy and I think I’ll keep it that way for a while longer. I’ll listen to K-pop but will avoid Youtube videos.
Planning and organizing are my weak points but I’ll try to work it out. Sticking to airing dramas will definitely help. 🙂

You’re welcome! Happy to share my experience if it helps make your uni life more bearable ^^ Treasure your opportunity to learn, even if there are classes you don’t quite like. Good luck!

That makes two of us now in need of your expert advice on ‘balancing’ as you say @purpleteapot 😝 Because aigoo it seems impossible right now. At least from what I learned from Kdrama watching, there’s this frenzy in the early phase of getting into it. Somehow it’s the same for me with Kpop. I cannot seem to get enough of it right now. I’m hoping to see the light at the end of this tunnel though. I shall meet my saturation point!

Reply above 👆🏻 There are times I’m more active in checking out things other than MVs and albums, and that’s when my favourite group (BTS) is promoting. I usually watch all their live performances 🙊 But I stick to that and Bangtan Bombs nothing else!

I guess it’s because I’ve been following Kpop for 10 years, so I just learned not to sink in too deep in all the content after a while!
