I saw the first episode and it was ok. I think I will probably just watch it since I like the set up for the story. Usually I don’t watch weekend dramas or dramas that last for 50 episodes. But the one that I did see a few years ago was Flames of Ambition which I highly recommend since its to me one of the best K dramas I have seen.😀
I usually don’t watch weekend dramas too @eve but Father is Strange was so heartwarming and good that I wanted even more episodes! So now I’m on the lookout for the next FIS. Thanks for the rec but isn’t Flames of Ambition a bit makjang-y? I’m kind of iffy on those.
Flames of Ambition does have makjang elements but it’s a pretty good story. The drama is well written and I didn’t know how it was going to end. I highly recommend it.😀
My Golden Life the second episode was good. The stories are interesting, the only one that I don’t like so far is the sister that works at the bakery shop. So I think I will keep watching it for now.
Its definitely better than the man who sets the table.. Shin hye Sun is doing a fantastic job in it.. can’t say much about the other storylines yet.. esp her twin sister who is just weird. Butt considering is a long weekender it might need more time to develop.
So for now ill say you can watch it as decent timepass.. not yet at father is strange level!
Thank you so much for your thoughts and input, @irishrah. I guess even if it’s a really good one, since it’s a family drama, it’d take time to reach hype levels. I do adore Lee Tae-hwan so I’m hoping to catch this one.
Yes I think she is doing a great job too.😀
Agree about her twin sister, I don’t get her character yet, maybe her story will flesh out in the next episodes.
I’ve actually only seen Shin Hye-sun in Forest of Secrets (LOVE THIS SHOW) and Oh My Ghostess, so I’m looking forward to seeing her more. Glad to hear she’s doing great in here!
She’s not the leads in both of those dramas but I loved both! Forest of Secrets is just sooooo good, hope you give it a go! Oh My Ghostess was fun and Park Bo-young is just such a great actress. I sometimes forget that she’s not really possessed by Kim Seul-gi’s ghost. She really nails the role!
I definitely have a different reaction to the two dramas because while shin hye sun is doing well…the story line is not really captivating…am liking the man who sets the table more.
I agree.. at this point the only selling point for My golden Life is Shin Hye-sun.
I felt that Man who sets the table was a bit too black and white.. either juvenile-ish innocent (female / male lead meet) or extreme villain like the father.. but again, I’m still watching it too – hopefully one of these dramas will turn out to be good!
@irishrah and @kdramaskimchi, I didn’t check out Man Who Sets the Table because the trailer’s abuse/violence was off-putting to me. What’s your take on that?
While I like Shin Hye-sun and Lee Tae-hwan, I’m still more of a plot person so now I’m scared for My Golden Life. Hahaha
Lol! Plot wise My Golden Life description itself is slightly makjang.. what with chaebol birth secrets right from episode 1. But I’m willing to give it a shot since kdrama recently are doing so well with such plots (My father is strange, Women of dignity).
That way Man who sets the table from get-go has a better potential storyline sans typical makjang.
and yeah.. the abuse from the father was off putting for me too.. and there is lot of mild violence played off for comedy which feels a bit juvenile to me. but lets see where they go.. 50 episodes is a long way and series can get completely derailed or get fabulous in it!

Has anyone seen MY GOLDEN LIFE? Any thoughts? Or at least, any family drama recommendation? *severely misses FATHER IS STRANGE*

I’ll take your word for it! Since it has Yoo Seung-ho in it, maybe I should finally give it a chance.

Yes, that was the first drama I saw him in. His performance is pretty good. He is one of my favorite actors.😀
