Never has 2nd lead ship sank so hard for me than in Reply 88. It scarred me so bad i could never revisit the drama. But this! THIS! You really mess with my shipper heart! With this current ending in sight, perhaps I could finally do a rewatch. The wound is finally healed now! Eeeeeeeeeeeee good luck you two!
But I didn’t feel so bad when Jung-hwan didn’t get the girl.. don’t get me wrong, I rooted for him, I was shipping him with her so bad and I even cried at his “fake confession” but when I found out that Taek was the husband I was okay with it because I also rooted for him, I wanted him to be happy and loved.. it felt like the show fooled me into loving both guys!
Lucky you! I was so deeply seated in the Jung-hwan ship that when it drowned, it hurt so bad – even though I do get why he didn’t get the girl – that noble idiot fool.
I was a Jung Hwan shipper one hundred percent, but that scene he talked in voice over about being too hesitant and too doubting and too scared was so gut punchingly realastic that made me completely ok with and accepting of the ending. He deserved it, and though it broke his heart and mine, he really had only himself to blame.
And in retrospect I now feel that for a drama about youth hopes and heartbreaks, a truly deeply real heartbreak was much more apt than a happily sailing ship and a sorry-we-love-you-but-maybe-next-time kind of second lead.
