Started Hana Yori Dango recently and it’s so good! Never thought I would say it, but *whispers* it’s better than Boys Over Flowers! Don’t tell Lee Min Ho on me. *runs away*
Well this screenshot alone makes your point.. I mean the clothes and hair-do actually look normal (although the hair-do of the guy at the back is bit off..but nothing on Jun-pyo’s!) Lol
I do love Lee Min ho (whole reason why kdrama obsession started) but… even fangirling can’t forgive Boys over flowers fashion sense! How did he agree to wear such clothes & hair-do?!?
Well… They did curl his hair. And I have spotted a fur even here. And thought of Lee Min Ho’s fur, lol.
But the fashion doesn’t bother me as much as it could. I tried watching Meteor Garden (Taiwanese BOF) once and couldn’t get past 15 minutes. Their clothes were just… Terrible. Nightmarish. I seriously had to go back to BOF and calm myself down with some LMH and F4.
BOF with Lee Min Ho was my first drama as well and I actually liked his hair (I like curly). The fashion… Was probably bearable. Or maybe I thought since it’s Korean… 😀
Hahaha! Yes.. since that was my first drama too – I thought maybe Korean fashion sense is that way.. Lol!
I cringe at how I could ever assume what they show on TV reflects how the culture actually behaves in normal life! If u thought B’wood to be the anchor for Indian life, we would never have time to study/work from dancing around trees! Lol
BOF definitely doesn’t portray your average Korean love story but there are plenty of more realistic dramas which portray life in Korea much more accurately. At least I think so. And even in the most dramatic of dramas, there are always those little things – making kimchi or going to a bathhouse – which stay true to the culture. But maybe I just misunderstood your point… 😀
By the way, you are Indian? As in from America? Sorry if this sounds ignorant or offensive, it just seems really cool and exotic to me, since I’m from Europe. I don’t even know what B’wood is…? Enlighten me, please. 😀
Haha! Oops! I’m Indian as in from the Asian country India 😀 and B’wood is bollywood.. the hindi film industry? must’ve heard of shah rukh khan and the likes of sentimental family movies like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum or maybe 3 idiots? not sure how popular they are in mainland Europe though.
Yeah of course, there are hints of real culture which does seep through from drama. But usually stuff and especially attitudes are over-exaggerated and not a good way to set standards by. Like when I moved out of India, I was surprised when ppl asked me if I was forced into my marriage! Stereotype from movies again!
Ah, sorry! Could have thought of it. Now it all makes sense. I got confused with dancing around trees! And of course I know Bollywood! Not the movies you have mentioned, but I have seen Bride and Prejudice. So I know a bit. 🙂
I guess you’re right in this way. The real trouble is – I never know how much of the drama is a real cultural thing and how much is over-exaggerated and for the sake of drama. I guess I’ll never find out till I go to Korea?
The same goes with your country. People are only interested in the shocking or interesting things, so that’s what media convey. That’s why we – or at least I – might have a skewed image of your country. I know that (now no offence, please) there is / was a high rape occurrence in India and also that you have a caste system. I know a bit about religions in India and that a lot of people (hindus) do not eat cows.
This is not only the fault of movies, it’s the media as well. They portray mainly the shocking / bad events, the newsworthy things.
Maybe we (or I) just lack education, but you can’t really study a culture from a book, you need to experience it. I think all in all, it goes down to being open-minded and to try to fight against all the prejudices that come with our upbringing and environment, from our own culture.
Sorry if I do not make sense, it’s really hot here right now and it’s getting to me… I hope you’re not offended in any way. 🙂
I actually haven’t watched BOF, just the Taiwanese and Japanese versions – and Hana Yori Dango is very addictive! Hahaha. I remember marathoning seasons 1 and 2 in one weekend! The chemistry was off the charts it was no wonder the couple dated irl.
They dated in real life? That’s cool. Thanks for the info. 😉 It will double my giggling and grinning during their scenes.
Well, BOF was my gateway drama, so it will always have a special spot in my heart. You know, all those firsts… But this is turning out to be so much fun!
Well, its prolly gonna be like DOST where they will confirm once they’re getting married since both are top-stars and the rumors have been there for 10 years! koalasplayground.com/2017/04/07/j-actress-inoue-mao-coyly-confirms-relationship-with-long-rumored-boyfriend-matsumoto-jun/
Thanks for the link. 🙂
I’ve never believed dating rumours before ’cause netizens are creative but Song-Song couple taught me a lesson. And here, it’s been 10 years! So I’ll just wait for their marriage announcement.
I didnt watch BoF, preferred Meteor Garden and then accidentally came across HYD. Couldn’t get myself to watch BoF. Unless watching clips for all scenes of Kim Bum & KSE is considered watching BoF too?
Well, if you watched both Meteor Garden and HYD, watching BOF might be a bit tough. The storyline is a bit different sometimes… But I loved it. It was pretty, addictive, and fun. It was also my first drama, so I might be a bit biased. 😀
Kim Bum & Kim So Eun were really precious, though. I don’t think even HYD can beat these two.
I still can’t listen to Planetarium without stopping what I’m doing and having a broken heart 😭 , one of my first drama and forever one of my “sweat honey” as Tsukasa used to say 😅
If you have watched Boys Over Flowers, you already know that there are many hurdles in this story, as HYD was one of my first dramas it left a strong impression on me as I wasn’t used to all the hardships all candy female leads have to go through ^^’

Lol 😆 IF they really dated I believe in J that he can make a relationship last this long. They just cannot reveal it because of Arashi’s popularity.

Kim Bum & KSE were the best for me, in terms of their characters, amongst the 3 versions (MG, BoF & HYD)
can’t comment on other pairings since I didnt watch BoF
