Question: How did the phrase “ship”/shipping while rooting for a couple come by? The closest I can think of is being inspired by the Dido white flag song.. “I’ll go down with the ship..”

I googled it and Wikipedia (the fount of all knowledge) informed me that it is “initially derived from the word relationship” 🚢🚢

Ooh makes sense! I would always wonder what could be the relation with ocean swimming ships! Sometimes my terrible imagination thought it may have to do with sadistic tendencies of hoping for a titanic type doomed epic love story!

Didn’t think this would have a wiki page..i thought it was an kdrama fan exclusive term! Or maybe I just don’t follow other media stuff..

I had no idea that it wasn’t a K-drama fan exclusive thing either!

Oh yeah! Shipping/OTP is like used all the time! I can’t remember when exactly I heard it but I think it was the whole twilight era with Team Edward and Team Jacob 😛

Oh gosh the twilight era and the many arguments on which guy should win! i still cant get over how lame it was to make a random love-line for Jacob with her daughter.. *shudders*
I try not to remember the fact that I actually read all the books and was excited to see the movie..!

Same here. It’s like blocked memories that I read and watched the series. The movies were just so…..

ew….thank god we all grew up right?

hahahaa!! All memories have been repressed! Just between me and the beanies here though, here’s a weird story. So I remember when the movie Twilight had just been released, I was in school so all that’s pretty much the only thing the girls would talk about for days! It got to a point where it was so hyped up that I just HAD to know what all the hype was about for myself.

The plan was to read the book and then see the movie which was easier said than done. Now, bear in mind my family is very traditional so romance books were a big no no in the house. The only place I could find and read the book was the mini books/ stationary place at Lulu Hypermarket (we had like 2 bookstores in the entire country at that time). But since I couldn’t actually be seen reading it what did i do? Took it to the women’s clothing section and the changing rooms of course. Fast forward to almost an hour later, and me totally engrossed in the book, when people start banging on the door wondering if I fainted on the inside! So yeh, I had to cover my face in shame and walk out of the changing rooms and make a mad dash for the exists! It took me almost a month of trips to Lulu to finally finish the book. Thank god I can actually download them now?

Lol after all the hard work though I ended up hating Twilight later on. Side effects of growing up and reading more books?
