No bad intention, but why?
I've seen him in 3 projects: From Another Starter, All Surrounded, and Cinderella. I don't mind him but he doesn't make my dream casting.
I'd love to hear from his fans. So I can justify my Pinterest board for him. *What?!*

I seem to be stuck in Hyun Bin land after going to see his and Yoo Hae Jin's buddy cop movie Gongjo/Confidential Assignment. I just finished watching Secret Garden again and now I'm trying to get through Hyde Jekyll Me after originally dropping it around ep 4 back when it was airing. I made it to around ep 13 this time. I think the problem is mainly the writing and not the acting, but anyway we'll see if Hyun Bin acting cute is enough to get me to ep 20 lol

Oh really? In that case I will stick it out until the end since I've already come this far!
I was lucky enough to watch it in the theatre - we are starting to get most of the blockbusters in our city about a month after the Korean release. It just came out Jan 18th so it may not be up yet, but myasiantv will probably have it eventually if you don't alr check there. If you don't want to wait, look up 공조 on youtube and there are quite a few videos with extended scenes and previews. There are some interviews on vlive/v app as well including a 30 min interview with Hyun Bin where he talked quite a bit about how filming went for him, how he prepared, his character etc.

I noticed his looks due to his lack of dialogue at the beginning of White Christmas. When he started to speak it was all about his voice.
It's not often anymore, but it used to take me forever to watch an episode with him.

2 watch - for his looks

I like these random questions :)
Lee Jong Suk - liked him since SG and he's got the acting chops to back it up
Lee Sung Kyung - liked her since IOIL, she's got a really cool aura
Nam Joo Hyuk - definitely from WFKBJ
Lee Soo Hyuk - so beautiful, but really wish he got better roles because didn't really like any of them so far
Sung Joon - in small, random doses like in INR3 but since then, there hasn't been much that's caught my attention
Ahn Jae Hyun - in C4K and MLFAS but I've not seen him in anything else (probs for the better)
Cha Seung Won - but he's basically just seen as an actor now, he's so cool haha
I also like quite a few of the YG Models in the webdrama We Broke Up - I think the dude's name was Chang Gi Yong?

Something makes me feel like Soo Hyuk & Joo Hwan are on the same wavelength as Kang Ha Neul. They want roles the interest them, challenge them, complex roles. These roles usually show us their ability. But that's all they want.
It's just a semi-theory based on throw away interview answers. I just feel that it's not so much the roles aren't for them as much as they don't want the roles. Just my opinion of course.
LSH should lead a Web drama like HJH did.

Happy Friday all!
Am currently waiting for Strong Woman DBS new subbed episodes - it made my weekend morning brighter.
My favorite female actreeses in dramaland are Park Bo Young, Kim Seul Gi, Kim Ji Won, Seo Hyun Jin, and Lee Sung Kyun.
Am so glad that they will all be back on small screen soon (or is currently on like PBY)! Except for SHJ but she's highly sought now so I am sure she will be back soon.
Now I just hope this will be the year that Kim Seul Gi would score as lead in a full drama. I am assuming she's popular enough that she is billed as cameo when she appears in other dramas in 2016 (Weightlifting KBJ, Legend of the Sea) instead of just regular supporting actreess - or do I interpret the word 'cameo' differently to what it's supposed to be in Korea?
It's about time she gets acknowledge for her talent, she has great screen presence, sizzling chemistry with all of her partner, and she's funny as hell. Obviously, Yoon Do Joon or Kang Ha Neul would be the ultimate dream OTP but that would be requesting too much from dramagod ?
Required fields are marked *
purpleowl
March 10, 2017 at 6:28 AM
I think of cameo as less than regular supporting character. Cameos are usually short bursts of screen time, 2 seconds to 20 minutes, but only in 1-3 episodes. Supporting characters are usually throughout the drama, little siblings, parents, exes and such.

Oh, a pairing Kang Haneul-Kim Seul-gi would be heaven on earth. They did an episode of Happy Together where she kinda admitted she'd love to work with him and he seems totally enchanted by her presence. They don't even have to be a romantic couple, they can be a hapless duo of curmudgeons going out on a limb to fight crime and I will be happy.
Come on, dramagods, make it happen! I will totally sacrifice the annoying mosquito in my bedroom in your honor if you do this.

Its about time Seulgi score a lead in a longer drama. And before that Happy Together episode, I only wanted to see her pair up with Yoon DooJoon but now, I'd like a pairing with Kang Haneul too.

I have been saving some money to buy a serum I have been wanting it for weeks. The brand itself is well-known and I've used some of their products and they are great. Then I bought it and instead of hydrating it turned out to dry my skin even more! How awful.. so I searched the internet and concluded that it was hyaluronic acid which is a possible culprit. Huff.. sadly, it seems like I'm one of a few who HA turns out to dry out my skin.

Oh thanks a lot for your suggestion. I suddenly realized that I used my toner which really dried my skin before using the serum with HA. Perhaps that's the reason behind all these messes. I'll try again today, perhaps tomorrow to see if applying it the way you suggested really helps. If it still does not, guess that's my skin problem and I might resort to other things. Perhaps First Aid Beauty as @harmonyfb suggested. If I can find that in my country ofc ;)

afaik HA only works in humid environments since it draws water from the air to your skin. if the air is too dry however, it would draw water from your skin outside instead.. i think in dry climates, oils which will prevent moisture from escaping your skin would be better

Thanks to all the dermatologist beanies :) Your suggestions are much appreciated. My first solution would be to try every way possible to make this thing work since I feel pitiful for the money I spent, and don't wanna use any more of it so soon. A guy who I met in the school cafeteria a few days ago (and who seemed perfectly normal) sat down next to me today and started talking to me about the occult.
Not that there is anything wrong with believing in the supernatural... but it was weird. It was very sudden and he told me about a time his aunt was walking in a city in Bosnia clutching a rosary when a demon approached her. And then spent a good 15 minutes showing me this website about real supernatural findings.

My 5 year old daughter's front teeth fell out yesterday--two on the same day!--and so, I rolled up my sleeves and metamorphized into a wing-donning, tooth-hauling, chocolate-bestowing fairy...

Yeah, I must have read your of your rants :P I got curious and went to watch the ending. I had dropped this show two weeks ago.
The only sense I can make out of it is that the ending doesn't belong to the story. I guess the real ending was left to the audience to infer from the 'last scene' and the ending which infuriate so many viewers was actually just a kind of good bye from the cast to the viewers. If it was the real ending then the thing Missing was Sanity.

It felt that the writer gave up on the show and want to wrap everything up fast, I think something happened to the writer maybe the low ratings and the bad reviews made him lose interest.

Thank you for mentioning this. Saves us from waiting for the recap to come out, and lets us vent while the steam is still coming out of our ears.
The most charitable explanation I can think of is that the final scene was actually the wrap party - perhaps all the wrap party they could afford with those ratings ? :)
Otherwise no way Tae-ho would be there, acting like that, and the others would be treating him like that.
Or, just how hallucinogenic were those mushrooms they were eating on the island ??
Too bad, I liked most of the rest of the show.

I wouldn't celebrate with a serial killer happily that way, Soo Hee's brother was also playing with him, the cast must be disappointed as we are in this ending, even Tae Ho surprised how the writer forgave him and let him celebrate with everyone, he can't believe himself he had a shy smile the whole party.

"Bad" isn't the main issue. It just didn't fit the rest of the show. Same ending wouldn't have been so out of place in Chief Kim (not necessarily really good, just not so strange).

I guess Murakami's books and Art-house movie fan is speaking in me but I actually liked this surrealistic ending.
It gave us some real ending (court decision) and the other about how they felt and where they stand now. It also answered the question about color mystery.
When I watched it I actually cried because it was so beautiful and perfect, my friend had the same reaction, as I can see everyone else hated it so you have to check for yourself

1. Though I am aware of the different controversies that surrounded CITT, I still ended up watching it because of the amazing reviews it got for the drama's first half and because I am a fan of Kim Go Eun. I must say that what I basically did was still having faith in the drama even though I know that it will just a heartache in the end like true kdrama masochist. Haha.
2 While watching CITT, I kept thinking that either Kim Shin or Grim Reaper would suddenly appear and check on Hong Seol because maybe she's just one of Eun Tak's reincarnations hahahaha.
2. I kept seeing Yook SungJae in Seo Kang Joon's face and voice. Am I the only one seeing that haha. I think they have a lot of similarities aside from being great actors!
3. I am currently loving Park Hae Jin and Kim Go Eun's chemistry in CITT so much that I want them to star in a new drama together despite all the issues that surrounded them.

Chief Kim : My baby Myung Seok is surely growing up in Chief Kim this week's episodes. Hopefully this actor will become bigger actor, he is good in comedic roles.
Saimdang : I am at epi 5, I am way behind. lol. I am more interested with Yang Se Jong. Good for him turned down Bride of Water God, after started his career with two drama with reputable veterans, he should pursuing his career with great drama ahead. Saimdang is not doing great in rating, but he got to act with Lee Young Ae though.
You're Too Much : Saw the first two episodes, it was OK so far. Story is not engaging yet. Gu Hye Sun is doing OK, as long as she doesn't become 'Geum Jan Di' I think it will be OK.

hi sera!
lets share our dramas stories this week! and Hi lovely TGIF beanies !
What I watched :
THE KING MOVIE (Jung woo sung,Jo In Sunga
Okay, this movie is good in oddest way! Tbh, I can rated this 8 out 10, but the plate itself not perfect nor delicious as fq. I got L-Dcaprio's feeling from his Wolf of Wall Street, at very strong, seriously. The way this movie take POV from ultimate hero, the slow-mo & wildness party & the riches niche world shove to us how the upper class play, the inner hero voice, the downfall, the tiger's wife. Who's with me ??
MASTER MOVIE (lee byung hun, kim woo bin, kang dong won)
2 movies in a row? yeah why not! I pushed my patients all in noon, I watched all night n wake up in panda.
This is awesome! I love lee byung hun, but he doesn't share to many screns, for me Kim Woo Bin again, steal the shine with his very personal humour he always injects, but this time, hits all the right note. And Kang Dong Won, oh my dramagod, now I knw why you are the claimd-King of pretty boys back to wed, damnyun!!
JEALOUSY INCARNATE
I love love super love!! I pushed this dramas all the way when i tot my love for Gong hyo Jin has dried up, but is not! Even all her drama all bad (IF), i'd still love her fashion to death! Forgive me. She's seriously the most fashionista of all A-LISTER K-Actress along with JJH, but her fashion sense is chic ready to wear laid back hipster very subculture inspired/ LA-Hongdae mixture.
oh I forgot the drama, haha, I stop at ep12, since at ep14 GH & the hero will kiss rite? and I read recaps first, and no no to aldutery. Omg please find me a reason to continue since i love this show.
a lot of comments said she & second lead not have a exclusive relationsip yet, excuse me? in back ep, GHJ said to JJS she HAS A BOYFRIEND. it means seal the deal. They're not in dating stage. And, it means Cheating, with big C.
EMPIRE OF GOLD
Still new, at ep 6.
I wonder is this worth my time to the end?? I kinda tired but interested in this cooperate fight ride to hell they all riding, but is this keep continuing w/o another plot drive?
another suggets if any of these dramas are good :
HEARTLESS CITY
INTROVERT BOSS
VOICE

I LOVE Jealousy Incarnate, I can watch Jo Jung Suk doing anything and I'd still have a smile on my face.
I wasn't disappointed about what happened in episode 14 (maybe because I was always on Lee Hwa Shin's ship) and tbh to me, the draggy and disappointing parts are towards the end when the noble-idiocy plot kicked in. I won't spoil it but know that it doesnt take too long (thank God!).
This week, I am still watching Entourage with the hubby because he seemed to enjoy it. If it's just me solo-watching, I would have dropped it few episodes ago. Up until episode 6, none of the characters are likable. Young Bin is so unprofessional, childish, and selfish. Not to mention SKJ doesn't amp up any charisma and I just cannot buy him as big star. The only positive thing is Jo Jin Woong, when the episode focuses on his issue (like in episode 6 with his daughter and bf), the episode immediately becomes 5x more interesting. The ultimate problem with this series is definitely the writing, but the actors (excluding 1 or 2 in the group) doesn't help in elevating the material. Now I get why the rating is low.
Also marathoning Voice. It started good and clever but then plot holes keep appearing one after another, which I assume is because of live shooting. Otherwise why would they need to show Jang Hyuk fighting with the southeast asian assasin for half an episode, other than for filler purposes? And am I the only one who was irked by how they all can tell that he comes from Southeast Asian? Even the nurse who prob only saw him for one second. I want to say this is mild racism but then we are all Asian so I don't know what to call this. I am from SEA and he looks 100% Korean with a little bit of tanned make up. If I would have to call someone who looks SEA that would be someone like Ha Suk Jin (perhaps because of his round double lidded eye and angular jaw), but I don't go around saying he's different. It's just such a shallow thing to do.
I am still watching for the weekly case and Kim Jae Wook - he's a hottie but mostly I am intrigued by his character, like why does he turned to be so effed up? I hope the writer already has this back story in hand from the start instead of winging it because otherwise I will feel so cheated, I mean he's the ultimate baddie of the series after all.

re: the long fight scene. I am not going to generalize that all men like such scenes, but many do and I always think these kind of shows have a certain # of men watching along with the gals. At least they have an actor who obviously is good at these scenes and they want to show it off.

I will watch The King this weekend.
About JI : Actually this show kind frustrating. I skipped few episodes in the middle and picked up it back around the last 6 episodes. I only read recap for the episodes I skipped. Hehe. If no GHJ and JJS in this drama, for sure I will stop watch.
EOG is worth for your time if you like serious drama, with corporate fights and no romance. This together with other drama from the same writer are all my favourite.
Based on your suggestoon list, Heatless City is a good drama. Not started on Voice yet, but reviews said it is a great drama too. Introvert Boss - not something really good but not something bad as well But it has content to watch and not just a nonsense..

I wont spoil anything, Thank God I didn't at first plc as well, only thing is be careful of Jung Woo Sung. His face and smooth hair up is deathly lethal
One question abt EOG,
the drama itself is setting in 1990 ish? or am I wrong? I kinda confused tho, n somehow after a long fight scene, there is chiil, and it sets up like there is time jump after last frame, but there is no explanation at all.
N, did Sung Jin's household know Sung Jae is not their blood-related siblings?

Empire of Gold is fantastic. It's interesting in that all the corporate maneuvering and countermoves are revealed through the dialogue and tea-drinking sessions.

I've noticed Gong Hyo Jin always dresses similarly quirkily in most of her dramas.. Could it be that she gets to pick her own outfits? Fifth week on the OT. Are we having fun yet? I watched 2 things this week. A (I assume) British film called “One Day” starring Anne Hathaway, and “A Man and A Woman” starring (who else?) Gong Yoo. If you’re new to my comments, you really should edjemacate yourself on my obsession which I’ve been documenting on the Open Feed over the past 5 weeks…
First, “One Day” on Netflix was probably produced, written and directed by Koreans using Latin pseudonyms. Really angsty, slow, with some beautiful scenes, and Anne Hathaway is so pretty too with a killer British accent. However, when I saw her riding her bike in the 2nd scene of the movie, in London traffic, without a helmet, I totally expected the Truck of Doom to appear... Maybe I’ve been too conditioned by Korean dramas, and I had to remind myself that it wouldn’t happen. Fast forward to the end of the film, and even Anne Hathaway in London can’t escape the Truck of Doom. It was a HUGE truck too. Which is why I’m convinced South Koreans probably had a hand in it. I laughed too loudly (I know, terrible) when I saw it happen, mainly because it was so unbelievable. Otherwise, it was an excellent film if you imagine her dying of, say, an inoperable brain tumor or ovarian cancer, or a piano falling on her, or almost any other reason.
Second, “A Man and a Woman” probably is my worst nightmare/ greatest fantasy film. I mean, really, Gong Yoo showing up in my life to have an affair would be too much, right? However, my husband has already conceded, so I’m good, right? (see comment 15 on Feb 17th OT) I still think my husband and I are the coolest couple on the face of the earth, though. I can't imagine me being as cool with anyone else, even Gong Yoo!
But because he has been the third wheel in our relationship since the airing of Goblin, I have yet another conversation to share.
I was at a conference in a large city this past week, on my way to an Asian market with a friend when I called my husband.
Me: I'm going to the Asian store, do you want me to pick up anything to bring back while I'm there?
Husband: Just a second wife would be fine.
Me: I'll pick up a second wife for you, if you hand over Gong Yoo to me.
Husband: I'll write a letter.
Me: And what would it say?
Husband: Dear Mr. Gong, Here are my wife's stats *proceeds to list my age, height, weight, and measurements, and yearly salary.* As you can see, she's quite accomplished and beautiful, and happens to be infatuated and highly impressed with you (and she's very hard to impress). I have conceded to you and would like it if you married her, leaving me free to pursue Rachel McAdams.
Sincerely, a fan with a lovely wife.
P.S. As a psychiatrist, it is my professional opinion that she is NOT insane, and neither am I.
P.P.S. Also, she's a horrendous cook, but somehow finds partners who are amazing in the kitchen.
Me: Yeah, that will totally convince him.
Moral of the...

Oh God you're right about 1n2d. for the past weeks it's so boring with the guests and the themes that i have to switch to another channel. I'm starting to lose my trust to the PD tbh

Yes! What a pity about 1N2D! Travel, awesome close-ups of food, doing chores that concern food, themes and games that actually make me learn about something...I miss all that. PD Yu Ho Jin's leadership is missed. Singing shows? Put a stop to it please.
My favourite episodes are: 1) The Food Tour when they had to split and play games to eat food, nonsense quizzes, gathering SALT and the end as a punishment. It was very gratifying. Very much like a documentary. 2) Sam Kim and Raymon Kim (very funny!!) 3) Non-Possession Trip 4) Han Hyo Joo episodes.
I think the cast thrive when they have to talk and play quizzes. Their wit really comes alive.

NJTTW 3 only has one ep left now as far as I know :(
I think the theme song idea is pretty good and that's the reason (in this ep at least) for the guests being there. The main focus was still on the members (the whole audition-thing lol). And S1 also had eps and trips where they didn't really show any or much landscape. This is a big anniversary year for the show, I think he just wants to do something that will last? The songs can be used for a long time. I dunno, I think it was pretty funny ^^
Cable entertainment shows are hard to come by esp with subs...
"Coming Out" is only 5 eps, but was really hilarious and if you like Knowing Brothers' honest and open "anything goes" humor, you might like it.
Two Yoo Project Sugar Man could be fun at times. It's a sort of music program.
Not a cable show, but in the vein of some of the shows you mentioned: Fluttering India (/Exciting India). It's a lot of fun and Kyuhyun from NJTTW is in it.
Heard good things about The Genius, but haven't seen it yet (a TvN show).

Happy Friday! Another drama ended but I wasn't happy at the ending -Missing 9: I rolled my eyes- Tae-ho really? Got to be kidding. Overall I enjoyed it. Sad (or should I be happy) on Korea's situation (At least I'm sad about less shows to watch due to special broadcasts?)
There was 2017 cable broadcasting awards ceremony (by korean cable TV broadcasting commission) on 10th. Goblin got the most awards-4 of them in drama, rising star, OST, VOD sales. Yook Sung-jae received rising star award and Best actor award went to Yoo Ji-tae of Good wife. Best couple award went to Ye Ji-won and Kim Ji-suk in OHYA.
Ok here is another interview with Jo Jin-woong(41) from 'Signal' for his new movie Bluebeard/Haebing(Thawing). It is thriller film about a doctor who suspects his patient and his son's involvement in a grisly murder. This is first time he played the lead in a psychological thriller. He said he didn't even know who the director was when he decided on the project. "When I read the scenario, I thought "What is this?" "So what happened?". I thought when the audience watch this movie, they could watch immersed just like me, so I decided to take the role. It was hard even though I did my best. I think I feel the same way whenever I do a project. Before I start a project, I think it would be fun, but once I am on the filming site, I think "What is this? Why did I say I would do this?".
People are interested in him as interested in the film. "Actually it was not an easy task. My character was sensitive to the fault and nervous. But director-nim set the environment and atmosphere for the acting well, and that was the reason I could do it having fun. It is rare to have experience like that. Other characters show or are portrayed to show outside, but this time it was not like that. I had to bump into my inside (character), and having reaction from that was everything. It was not character presented so I couldn't calculate. On certain parts, I couldn't plan the reaction. It was very fun task, but it was painful to get there. There is no character which is not new or not hard for me."
About popular dramas he starred in like 'Deep rooted tree' or 'Signal', he didn't give himself much credit. "Whoever played in those dramas would be popular. If you say "That is Jo Jin-woong brand acting", I'd like to know what that is. I feel like I am an actor without my own color. For example, with some actors, once his name is mentioned you can imagine his color and feel. But when I ask other people "What is my color?" all say it is difficult to say. I might have to make my own color. I just think I don't belong to any specific group."

Jo feels burdened about being called 'Flower middle age man'. "That expression is burdensome. When people talk about my looks, I feel bothered. I think that time is already passed and I feel so embarrassed when people compare me to other actors. I just feel guilty when I see that type of articles. I don't like the word middle age man, and I don't have DNA to accept the word 'flower'. [calling me] young man is ok. haha."
Jo tries to show different image even for similar characters he play. "I'm also shocked at myself thinking "Is this really me?" when I play a character. I am learning through my characters. And most of people I meet playing characters are important. I think they actually raised me. Son Hyun-joo, Ahn Sung-gi, Cho Min-soo sunbae-nim and hoobae/juniors- I've learned a lot from them. And doing that, I think my personally has changed in good way, so I don't know why I am cursed by my wife."
His co-starred with Sin Gu(Laurel Tree Tailors), Kim Dae-myung(Miseang), Lee Chung-ah(Flower boy ramen shop) among others in this film. "Sin Gu sunsaeng-nim(teacher), Dae-myung-yi, Chung-ah- I like them all. I liked Dae-myung from Miseang time, and Chung-ah was reserved or easy-going on the set. Since Sin Gu sunsaeng-nim (who is over 80) is old, I was very worried. Because the hospital set was hot, I was anxious about his health. Sunsaeng-nim said "It is warm." He tried not to show and I was moved. Even though he was the oldest, he didn't try to control?talk down? us. He acted relaxed, and I wondered if I could be like him when I am his age. When we were worried, he said "Why do you worry about such thing?", which made me teared up."
Jo has usually played manly upright characters, but he said he was not like that. "I am not different or cheery. But once I try to do something, I have to go all the way. If there is someone who keeps trying to bring me down, I am a type to fight it to the end. So I am(my life) tired." He talked about Signal too. "There is a character I don't want to be like, and that is Lee Jae-han. He is too sensitive and annoying character. He could just let things go, but he doesn't because of his meddlesome personality, so he is very tiring type. He doesn't know the proper stopping point, which annoys me. 'Signal' was hard. I told the writer Kim Eun-hee I wouldn't do it if they do the Season 2." (What??)

Jo lost 18kg for his role in this film. "I have to think how I should meet the audience with my character, and sometimes I fall hard for the role. I think I can't help it as an actor. Once I fall for the character and I say I would do the project, I don't calculate anything. That was also the case for this film." He said he doesn't feel burdened about success of the film and would accept the audience's judgment humbly. "If I feel burdened, it does not go well. Since I worked hard and finished well, people who want to watch will watch. It is not like I can drag them over to sit in the theather. Since It is psych thriller, I can't even tell them to cheer up watching this film. I don't have clear reason to tell people why they should watch this. I just hope people can help me."
No Jo Sin-woong in Signal Season 2?
oh well to ease my mind, I'll watch Honey Lee's performance again (2:41 singing)

I watched the first 2 eps of Father is Strange last week. I'm very unsure of the show so far but there are some good actors in it. I'd like Lee Joon to finally get a show with a good script. Also, it includes the actor who played the hilarious teacher who did impressions on Drinking Solo (he was also the bodyguard in Yong Pal). The thing is, the first 2 episodes spent a lot of time introducing all the characters but they weren't memorable. I know the premise is Lee Joon's character thinks the show's patriarch is his own missing dad but I think they need to get to that point ASAP.

I dont know if you have actually watched any weekend family drama before, but for 50 episodes drama, this pace is standard. It is something normal for first two episodes as introduction to all characters. The show will less fun if they jump straight to the premise of Lee Joon's missing father, since this is family drama.

Maybe try one of the good webdramas like The Flatterer or We Broke Up?
The eps are only about 10 mins each, so they don't amount to much more than a single ep of a normal drama and they can easily be spaced out throughout the day for when you take a short break to eat something etc.
At least that's one of the ways I cope with drama needs if I'm really busy studying or something lol :)

Math is my issue. I have been to Magoosh and taken the free quizzes. I am taking a Kaplan class since I need my hand held with math problems. I feel like a complete idiot. I just have to sit down and do millions of practice problems so I know what to do when I see it.
Thankfully, I don't need the GMAT for the program I am going for.

How bad is it with The Handmaiden? I've heard so many good things about it, but think I might be too sensitive to get any enjoyment of it.
I haven't seen a whole lot of Korean movies yet, but here are some I found worth the watch:
- The Thieves
- Age of Shadows (though I had to skip a few scenes due to some torture-stuff. So maybe you might not like it. It was a bit much for me at least, but still a really good movie)
- Attack the Gas Station

I liked The Handmaiden a lot but agree that it's not for everyone. It doesn't make my top ten list but I am particularly fond of Korean cinema and have watched a lot of Korean films. I like dark themes and gritty gangster or police procedural movies which Korean cinema does very well. All of these films I have watched multiple times because I like to study how a film is put together and I have always found something new to enjoy every time. But there are so many great Korean films though and it's hard to keep it to just ten.
I Saw the Devil - this one is not for the faint of heart!
The Chaser - nor is this one. Do I sense a theme here?
New World - simply one of the best gangster movie ever made anywhere.
Memories of Murder - a classic and my first Korean movie
The King and the Clown - beautiful film on every level with a stellar performance from Lee Jun-ki
Slimido - gritty take on an actual event in S Korean military history
The Show Must Go On - I love this film. It looks at a gangster's family life
Secret - a snappy thriller with my favourite Korean actor, Cha Seung-won, and Song Yoon-ah from The K-2 as his revenge seeking wife.
A Bittersweet Life - again not for the faint of heart
Going By the Book - this manages to be both a police procedural and extremely funny at the same time.

I haven´t seen that many, cause for some stupid reason I avoided festival films 5 years back (but then again, at that time those tickets were more expensive too).
some films I have seen in order of likability:
The Tunnel - great. ironic and sharp.
Sea Fog - creepy as f. the acting of the captain at the end was a bit "I should do this if I want to get awards" but ok. The ending made me so furious though. that b****!
Train To Busan - fun. seriously, frightening, but it was very entertaining.
The Throne - too bad I couldnt see it on the big screen the year it was shown here (2015) definitely a big screen movie.
The Face Reader - gripping, but the ending message was a bit weak
Kundo - it felt like koreans doing a "japanese" movie.
Pandora - stressful, scary, but it was good
Deranged - disturbing.
Miss Granny - very cute reminder that we are all young at heart
Secretly, Greatly - kinda messy

Good Morning everybody! I'm out here trying to be super quiet for my roommate who fell asleep on the couch (ah, the joys of living with a bunch of girls!) It occasionally makes me really want to watch Age of Youth just to compare. ^^
Missing Nine: I have only to watch the last episode now. But judging from a few of the comments above, I might want to brace myself. I've already given up all hope of this show being good, but... is it worse than even that? It makes me disappointed when it started out so well. So. Well. Grrrr do better next time!
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: So I showed my roommate that dream sequence--you know, that dream sequence--and she was super scandalized for life. I thought I'd made a slight misstep in her K-drama education until a few days later I hear giggling in our room: "Cozybooooks!! Have you seen this?"
I run in. "No. what?"
"It's the behind the scenes for that one scene."
"What one scene?" I walk over, and there's Hyung Shik in a wig, laughing his head off. It was beautiful. I can't wait for today's episodes.
Mars: I finished it! I never would have expected this ending from the beginning. So good, though, and I'd probably watch it again.
Down With Love: I'm on a roll lately, and I love this Chinese drama. The heroine isn't the strongest actor, but she's super adorable to watch so it's ok. Part of me wonders if it was inspired by Coffee Prince?
Defendant: I am so relieved. I have never been so happy to watch a reunion in my life. Well played, drama. Well played. And watching Min Ho get his comeuppance like that? I think I cheered in the hallway where I watched it.
Introverted Boss: ... ... this is not the drama I thought I was in for at the beginning either. And I'm conflicted on how I feel about it. More to come, probably long enough for a blog post.
Have any of you watched the Chinese Web Drama Proud of Love? It's... something. I still don't even know what. The story is hilarious (body swapping) but the humor is consistently pretty dirty, so I just skipped to the end... and what the what?! Is that ending? What?
Happy Friday, Beanies!

For this month I have only been watching "Introverted Boss" and "Strong Woman Do Bong Soon". I haven't had time for more, and nothing else really caught my eye.
I originally liked the dark theme of Introverted Boss, the pysch issues that everyone has with their personalities. I was so excited: Maggie Gyllenhaal & James Spader in "Secretary" excited. Yes, showing that you can have mental disorders and find someone who complements you perfectly so you don't have to hurt yourself or change. But, noooooooooooooo... the rest of the world complained and it became fluffy. Still an ok watch... but my hopes, my spankings, my dreams for it fell through.
I am just laughing my head off with Strong Woman. It makes my day and tickles me pink in all the right places. Yes, right there... oooooooooooooooo

I get you exactly on Introverted Boss. I didn't have any expectation going into it except "wacky" but I really loved the first few episodes and even some of the later stuff I liked (I actually really appreciate Yi-Soo as a character study, she's not a character you often see in dramaland) but I do think the "regroup" did bad things for the show. I wonder where it would have gone without it.
I'm off to check on Do Bong Soon subs now! Hehe!

(I suggest u can find others beside my list form classic mid 2008-2012 ish when Taiwanese Drama ( I think) has the best moment & quality of their drama batch. I've been TW drama's fans long time ago since my elementry day in 2000.
here :
-Devil Beside You ( it made Mike He & Rainie Yang mega stars overnight. Just watched n u'll be surprised)
-MIT LOVERS (arron yan & gui gui) : mystery & detective
-Hi MY SWEETHEART (Rainie Yang & Show Luo) : I bet every TWD's fans had watched it. Tbh, is not my fav, even they are my dream casts. Story is a bit draggy repetitive, only fun at some parts. But, like Meteor Garden, crazy fans over quality.
my top picks :
-MISS NO GOOD : haha, if u understand Chinese, & love funny, zanny, nonsense, yet innocently touching drama, this is for you! I laughed so many times for witty banter of their talks ! Wilber pan & Rainie is best comedic combo
-MOMO'S LOVE :Its like watching tiny human living in barbie doll house,so cuteee & quirky, hidden gem.

Mars as in the TW Drama? I'm soooo glad you enjoyed it. It's one of my absolute favourites ever. It's where I truly fell in love with Vic Zhou as an actor. And somehow I feel like this drama was so ahead of its time in its very human story, especially for all the idol dramas that TW is known for.

Hi Everyone! ....... I hope you are all doing well today!
Watched this week:
Defendant - Oh my goodness, after 6 episodes, I have 3 theories about how all this happened ...... but they all fall apart on me after a thorough analysis.
Night Light - It's very interesting that it takes a very, very long time for very, very little to happen.
Chief Kim - I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I suddenly have this thing about enjoying watching Seo Yul eat. I don't know what it is, but it's true!
Perfect Wife - Ok, wow. I don't know what this drama is exactly aiming for, but it's doing a great job of transmitting that "creepy vibe."
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon - After reading so many positive things about this, I decided to jump in and give it a watch. Glad I did! So far, it's Bong-soon's mom who's a hoot.
That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday

Hahaha the way he eats, I wonder if he Seo Yul or real Jun Ho? He also loves junkfood. Only in kdrama, even you eat triangle kimbap looks super delicious or the corn dog like Chief Kim always eat.
Talking about triangle kimbap, suddenly I remember Yoo Jung Sunbae in CITT. sobs.

Perfect Wife so far is a perfect show. TBH I love it more than SWDBS for now. I watched epi 3 + 4 with serious and bland face. I found Bong Soon cute but at the same time annoying, same goes to Min Hyuk and Guk Doo. Only her mom is quite interesting so far. I honestly dont think this show is a quality writing as some claimed it to be, but I will give chance for another 2 episodes. Maybe I will be excited if I am only watching one or two drama at the moment, but since I am watching most current drama, I found this drama is the most boring for me so far. Epi 1 & 2 were quite enjoyable to watch..

LOL the thing not only Bong Soon, i found the two male leads leads also boring and quite annoying. I like flawed characters, but these three so far just some boring and annoying characters. The show needs to get better in this week's episode. They cannot solely depend on the leads' popularity to maintain the rating until the end. Surprisingly my friend who are watching also sharing the same thing and we have much more fun talk about Chief Kim and Perfect Wife. This friend is a big fan of Hyun Sik and Ji Soo but she also doesn't fangirling them like she always did.

So I finally finished ep 4. I was encouraged by fans who said ep 4 was absolutely hilarious. I wouldn't say I didn't laugh but it wasn't much different from ep 3.
The antics are getting old fast. That's the problem I find with Bong Soon's scenes with Min Hyuk and Guk Doo. The scenes I like best are actually Bong Soon with Mom. The Buddha thing cracked me up and I find Mom's raunchy humor hilarious.
I almost started Perfect Wife but I've read comments that it's a confusing show which goes nowhere.

I think the PD that shoot the serious part is good because it looks so creepy but it just the transition isn't smooth,

I don't think SWDBS and Perfect Wife are that comparable though in terms of genre and theme so it's really all personal preference. That being said I definitely don't think the popularity of SWDBS is about the quality writing but really it's just a charming, light watch with really likeable actors. If you're looking for something more tightly written, there's plenty of other dramas airing right now that's more in line with that eg Defendant, Voice, Chief Kim.

Yay, I get to participate in the OT today! It's been a crappy couple of weeks - I rolled my ankle and dropped like hot potato right on the pavement, injuring my knees, my wrists, my face(!) and my dignity. No broken bones, thank goodness, but bruised ligaments in my wrist mean I'm still wearing a brace. UGH.
On the up side, I have had slightly more time to watch TV as my injury means I'm not allowed to pick up heavy things or flex my joint, so cleaning is right out. Are you familiar with the phrase "Every cloud has a silver lining"? This is the perfect illustration of it. ;)
What I'm watching:
My Introverted Boss: I don't think I've ever watched a show this inconsistent. It was bad, then better, and now it's bad again (worse, it's lazy writing). I think I may drop it.
Chief Kim: In contrast, this show is pure gold. Funny as hell, but also manages to be complex and deep and ominous, and it moves between them seamlessly. The actors are all fantastic - who knew Nam Goong-min was so good at comedy? - and while the characters are quirky, they're all consistent. :two thumbs waaay up:
I love that Director Seo keeps looking surprised that people hate him. It's another thing that makes me think he's really working deep undercover (though I suppose no villain ever thinks of himself as the bad guy).
And the fact that his expression of mistrust evaporated in the presence of a fistful of chocolate bars - HA. I'm inventing all kinds of head canon about how he came to associate food with love/manipulation.
Strong Woman Do Bong-Soon: I picked this up as an afterthought (mostly because I wanted to see the two male actors out of period costume). It's cute - my oldest daughter has started watching it with me - but it suffers in comparison to Chief Kim, as the transitions between the lighter and darker parts of the plot are pretty clunky.
The thing that I think makes this drama interesting is that two of the three leads 'code' gay. Min-hyuk pings my gaydar (he's got to be at least bi), and my lesbian daughter said she picked it up because Bong-soon seemed gay, as well. I'd love to see the drama focus on them becoming gay bffs, but I imagine we'll just have to find fanfic.
Legion: (US, not Kdrama) Holy crap this show just keeps getting better and better. Every episode is deeper down the rabbit hole of schizophrenia and illusion and what-the-hell-is-real-anyway. Dan Stevens is brilliant in this role. If you haven't been watching this, you really need to.

Haven't watched Defendant and I ended up dropping Voice after the 10th episode (cuz I couldn't take the plot holes anymore).
But if I had to guess, at least in Voice, Daddy is his meal ticket. Killing off the father would mean cutting off the money pipeline which would be a nuisance for the killer.

I am not a big fan of romance drama, but if in 2017 we will have a drama like 1% Of Something, I think it will be great. A drama which focus on the relationship between the OTP.
Dada & Jae In are so cute but not childish, they handle their relationship in a mature way but still so loving.. It doesnt need to be long episode, like 1% of Something, just around 30 mins each episode will be perfect. In that way we will be longing for more.

I second this!
When I read the synopsis on the new drama starring Lee Sung Kyung and Ji Chang Wook, I was wondering why can't it be a straight up romance?
1% of Anything was a perfect example of a how which had little else except the romance but it was great! I too am not a fan of romance dramas. I think it might have to do with I not liking the way courtship, romance and relationships are often portrayed. 1% on the other hand had me squeeing and laughing every episode. The length made the story telling more to the point, no stupid detours and noble idiocy.

I think 1% did two things really well: 1. They got two actors that actually had chemistry and 2. They didn't try to make it into a 16 or 20 hour drama. I mean since it was a re-make, they already went that route so they just cut out all the other relationships. Fine by me. I agree no "stupid detours and noble idiocy".

Hi Beanies -- I hope your week was happier and less shocking than mine. I found out two days ago that a literal real-life Truck of Doom took my childhood best friend out of this world and put her father and fiance in the ICU. Even worse, I'm on the other side of the world. It just doesn't feel real at all, because everything here is so untouched by this tragedy that has shaken my community back home. Grief is such a strange and confusing mix of emotions. Part of me feels like I should take off work and go home at least for a few days, but part of me is terrified I won't be able to handle it. Dramas, kpop, and my lovely students are my escape right now, but this awareness of her being gone is constantly there, even though we weren't as close recently as we used to be. Ours was that cliche-sounding kind of friendship where we'd go months without even a text message, but as soon as we were together again it was like nothing had changed. I never worried about where we stood with each other, and we never seriously fought. And now I'll never see her again in this life.
Anyway, I just needed somewhere to vent all of that. Any prayers/thoughts/well-wishes towards me and her family and other friends would be much appreciated.
(Apologies if this posts twice. My internet connection is infuriating at times.)

Two months ago, I lost my classmate in bike accident. It was unreal. We were just texting each other couple of days back. And I was on other side of the world as well unable to go to his funeral. Its not easy living far away from home and I always feel I can never find the right words to say in such situations.

I tried this for 6 episodes and decided it's not for me. The OTP wasn't pulling me in, the visual was a bit lacking for me (I can deal with less attractive visual if the OTP is good enough for me), and I feel like 3 lives story is an overkill. But my main deal is just the OTP, I can deal with anything as long as the OTP is good, but the fact that he's her "teacher" gave me an icky factor.
On another note, I did check out a movie I'd love to recommend you, it's less than 2 hours so not much of a commitment. I'm not sure if you heard of Love O2O (movie version), but it's good stuff, it's rom-com, college love and full of light-hearted moments. The lead girl, Angelababy is amazing in this role, I just fell in love with her.
I'm slowly branching out to C-dramas right now, hoping to find a drama that can pull me out of Ice Fantasy, I'm so deep in rabbit hole right now I can't seem to get out, lol.

There is no love-line between Si-Yin and her teacher. She just respects him a lot and that's it. Also, they are not the OTP. Spoiler alert: Master Mo-yuan will disappear from episode 8/9 till episode 50 or so. So Si-Yin and her teacher are definitely not the main focus of the drama. I would rather say that his role or his presence in the story is to serve as one of the key factors for what is happening in the drama.. Not as the OTP.
The main love-line of this drama is between Su-Su/Bai Qian and Ye-Hua. And their story actually starts around episode 12. The visuals will get better when she stops disguising herself as a guy. In fact, she looks gorgeous when she is back as herself (the High Goddess of the Fox Tribe). The overall visuals of this drama is pretty high tho, even the actors and actresses playing side characters are stunning, such as Ye-Hua's mom and the evil bitches in the drama. There is also a cute secondary couple. Maybe you can give it another try.. The real OTP hasn't appeared yet!

Happy Friday everyone ^^
Was glad to see the news that SK president is no longer in office and sad to hear that China's ban is rough on their economy :( Hope they make it through OK!
Watched:
New season of I Can See Your Voice! Yay! Although, am I the only one who could hear a lot of autotune on some of the "skilled" singers?
I mean, not saying that they can't actually sing well or that it wasn't actually live, however the autotune was really heavy and they sounded very unnatural some of the time. I was at first wondering how they could sound so perfect (after all, one of them was clearly extremely nervous and cramped up and had pretty bad technique which means that a perfect performance would be impossible), since perfect live-performances are extraordinarily rare, but then I heard that metallic sound and it all made sense lol. And yes, it is indeed possible to autotune a live perf. Maybe they got a new sound engineer or maybe they ran out of the really, really good singers from previous seasons?
I finally finished Goblin. Was missing the last four eps and hadn't watched any kdramas for months, so thought I might as well finish it. KES's writing fails yet again. That ending was completely awful and I hope no one actually mistakes her muddled mix of Buddhism and Christianity and revenge for what either of those religions are actually like. It was not only disrespectful, but also very misunderstood. Either she should have stuck to one religion and actually understood what it was about, or, better yet cause no chance of such mistakes, not involved actual rl-religions.
The cinematography, the OST, the cast and the bromance were all great though! Without TvN being behind this it would've been another awful drama, but there were times this was a good drama and overall it was watcheable, which is more than can be said of most her work. And the main romance felt more like a dad-child relationship most of the time, especially by the end, which is odd considering that she was then 29...
1N2D S3 was funny this week and I like the idea of a theme song. Akmu is a wrong pick for this show though (imo). I don't get why people think it's all there is to the anniversary, because Ilyoung PD never said that at all and it's months from now.
I do however get the wish to return more to the trips, except stuff like this happened in the first season as well (like the Olympic special where they were in a gym the entire time) and they literally just went on a trip that was very focused on teaching people about the place they went to and the history connected with it. So... Chill folks and let Ilyoung settle in. Na PD and Yu PD weren't perfect, they made boring eps sometimes, so cut the poor guy some slack :)
New Journey to the West 3 is over! Noooooooooooooooo.... Only one special left and then it's done *sobbing* What am I gonna do without this particular blend of people on my screen...

Congrats on finishing Goblin!
I am still stuck at ep 15, can't bring myself watching the last one. I always think Kim Go Eun does wonders with what she is given but Euntak is just meh character with crappy writing. It's really fascinating how almost everything is perfect except the writing and plotline execution :/
On 1N2D
I think that many people jump on PD Ilyong hate bandwagon a little too soon which made me a bit sad. I found the last ep is so funny, literally rofl. Many won't even remember that, as you said, Na PD & Yoo PD also can't help but directed some boring eps as well. It's like selective memories, a negative one at that.

and then his and Kim C last episode..

Ilyong didn't say this was the only anniversary celebration they'll be doing. It's just an early start I think :) He basically just said that it's an ep to prepare a theme song because it's the anniversary year. The first ep ever aired in August, so there'll most likely be something grand then + I think there'll be several celebration-things throughout the next months as it's big to hit 10 years ^^
I felt so bad for Yoo PD in that ep with the hidden camera! Poor guy was so flustered and confused lol. Kang Ho Dong flinging him around was kind of overkill haha.

Truer words have never been said lol. Also, yes, while I found Eun Tak fine in the beginning, she never really evolved and gained any depth. It was like she was just there for the ride, which isn't surprising considering KES' track-record, but I'm sad for KGE.
Ikr, such selective memory when it comes to 1N2D. I went back and rewatched some early S3 lately and the youtube comments are all about how this or that member is a bully, Junho being bad for cheating, S1 was much more like brothers etc. Errrr... Do you not remember how S1 cast was? "Bullying" and unfair play was plentiful lol.
I think Ilyong's improving lately and I love to his goofy grin appear on screen haha :) I wasn't fond of him in the beginning, but he's really grown on me. Glad to see I'm not the only who found the ep really funny!

With you on that..
I really like this PD.. he is so cute.. gets flustered.. its a nice team..
I would say S3 is more like brothers and cousins out on a trip..
S1 was all bullyign but they were more like friends out on a trip..with all the treachery
THe show is really about a close gorup of guys being guys and out on a road trip.. as long as cast gels in well.. all is good.
Infact i think because of the novel concept and adept team, s1 had less pressure. S3 doesn't have very well known names and had pressure of s2 's cancellation.. those guys have done well..
Lastly, don't know who the brain behind this travel show concept is.. like the very first person to think about it.. he is a true genius.
Na PD"s entire ZResume revolves around shows similar to 1N2D

Ahhh finally someone who agrees with me on that! I agree with what you said about the brothers vs friends, it seems that most people think the other way, which I've never really gotten.
That's true, S1 built a lot of pressure for S2, which proceeded to fail and then even more pressure for S3 to save the program. I'm so happy that both Koreans and international fans have eventually really embraced this cast, they're so good together. And I hope they'll embrace Ilyong PD sometime soon too.
Taehyun and Jongmin were already really famous though and Junho had been on gag concert forever, so people knew and loved him already (although he's probably even more famous now). But yeah, the other three weren't huge yet.
Na PD loooves travel shows. And he does them so well, so ain't nobody complaining about that haha ^^ Absolutely a genius whoever came up with the concept - they better be paid big bucks lol.

IKR?? After CITT, Kim Go Eun really deserves better than this.
I guess at this point people just like throwing negative comments, but the rating still towers other programs. And yesss for the goofy grin! He is cute lol. He seems like easily bullied by the member since he isn't the charismatic style like Yoo PD. But it's so funny to see how member complained all the time but still do what they're told to do anyway at the end lol.

There are no Christian themes in Goblin---ziltch. Confucianism is the main belief system in Goblin and I garnered more understanding after reading the comments after the DB recaps, especially by kumowa. This commenter also knew Classical Chinese and was able to enlighten me about the characters in the names of the king, queen, and general and what they meant. One thing I didn't know is that killing oneself is the ultimate action of dishonor for your family. You are the embodiment of your ancestors and killing yourself equates to killing all of them as well and that why it's unconscionable in this tradition. So, not a Christian value at all.

Happy Friday beanies.
I just finished watching what happens to my family, I wasn't expecting to get this much affected by it, I wasn't expecting to cry as much as I did, I started watching it thinking it would be a fun, breezy family drama, I didn't know what I was getting myself into but really with all the tears (and snot) I loved it, every bit of it.
It made me think a lot, about my parents and how to be a good daughter to them, I realized that we tend to get so busy with work and other stuff that we stop spending time with them. We tend to forget that as we are busy growing up they are growing old, and we're never getting back the days that we just let pass like that. It made me appreciate all the things that I used to take for granted, like my mom asking me if I had lunch, calling me when I'm at work because she had a bad dream about me and she wanted to make sure I was okay, like when I fall asleep without switching off the lights and find them off later because dad knows I hate opening my eyes to the lights, those little things are a blessing some people don't get to have, we need to be thankful we have our parents around and be good to them while we have them!

I finished the same drama as well this week.
Didnt at all expect it to move me so much. Initially I just started it to watch PHS on screen again while waiting for SWDBS, but then I somehow got caught up with all the characters.
My guilty conscience soon started pricking me and it grew as episodes went on. I ended up calling my mom at 11 PM at night using some lame excuse. I cried so much by the time it ended. I realized how much I take time for granted.
And everything you said here:
It made me appreciate all the things that I used to take for granted, like my mom asking me if I had lunch, calling me when I’m at work because she had a bad dream about me and she wanted to make sure I was okay, like when I fall asleep without switching off the lights and find them off later because dad knows I hate opening my eyes to the lights, those little things are a blessing some people don’t get to have, we need to be thankful we have our parents around and be good to them while we have them!

I meet with my friend who was KDrama addict and since I start to watch Jdorama and she outright show how Jdorama is inferior than Kdrama,
this makes me think that Kdrama probably looks better than Jdrama in general but when I watch Kdrama, it feels predictable,
I remember another comment talks about having to watch 6or 8 episode is enough without ending (probably in goblin, dots, reply 1988)
the satisfaction come on easy that when you reach 8 episode, the story feels enough and didn't bring anymore joy,
I hope I can like some actor so I can put up with it but more often I felt like drama never rely in the plot, especially romance, it just about who plays it

reset you are quite on point, I think jdramas are real slice of life projects, where the stories are oh so not conventional at all, but then you get 10-12 episodes and you get to spend that time on someone- or some family who are eccentric, oddballs at what they do, and they can make a whole story on their eccentricities without it making them come across as crack people lol. So jdramas/movies kind of let you see a different perspective in life, and for them I appreciate this genre, as a whole.
On other side, Kdramas are yes mediocre, and as you said halfway into the drama you know where the story is going, and most of the characters are recycled, and different actors each time make us curious to lookup a new drama.. So the production and quality value obviously makes kdrama appeal more to mass people, but then at the same time I have a specific place for them in my heart, since when the real world looks a little too depressing, or hopeless , the ever positive vibe of kdramas helps to let those times slide. The happy ending of kdramas is like chocolates which helps to lift spirit or a mood changer, so for that too I don't discredit kdramas for their values, and it 'is' a different genre altogether by now, it has a demand too in audience, either k-netizen or the international viewers, so it's a force to be reckoned with, imo. In any case, I am so glad that I have discovered jdramas too after my foray into kdrama world lol, so now I can switch back and forth between these two genres, according to my mood. Sadly, that means they take up more of my time too, so real life gets hampered, needless to say. Lol.

100% agree with you guys too. I find I really appreciate all the different stories in Japanese dramas and often I connect more emotionally. It's quite normal for me to cry by the end of every episode of a Japanese drama.
But Korean dramas have their charms too, often really visually interesting, and sometimes you just want a plot that you're used to - there's a reason why all those drama tropes are so tried and true after all. And there are some where the story can be really different or amazing, or even if it's the usual thing it will be really well written or well acted and you end up loving the characters anyway even if you can guess the ending.

^^ "and sometimes you just want a plot that you’re used to – there’s a reason why all those drama tropes are so tried and true after all."
Couldn't agree more. I have this real thirst for dramas where couples fight or the love and hate relationships, so end of the day I wait for dramas with stereotypes, by this time I'm more excited about seeing my listed potential couples on screen together lol, like seul gi- YDJ or KHN or GHJ with any seasoned actor, so KDramas are more dependent on the actors...Where as jdramas are there to rejuvenate my story lover self...where I am always ready to get something more on some path of life that I have not explored, like jimi no sugoi or Tokyo tarareba musume which is ongoing now. So when the lead female character says after coming back home from her date...it's always good to be back at your place...lol I can relate, since I feel I always need my personal space to be in. So jdramas inspire me, a lot. And each chracter has something more to say, and are not just supporting character for some laughs.

I am so into Rebel and got curious about King Yeongsangun. Reading wiki brought me to a recent movie - The Treacherous Wow! I wasn't prepared for so much nudity and sex scenes. More than that, the King was not just tyrannical, he was a total nutcase. Of course, the movie took liberties and I don't know how much it veered from history facts.
The actress who stood out wasn't Lim Ji Yeon who I now have the impression sheds her clothes fairly common in movies. It was Lee Yoo Young, I've got a feeling she's one to watch out for.

Hi everyone!
*spoiler* Defendant - I would have been royally pissed off if Jung Woo and Ha Yeon had missed each other AGAIN. S=Seon Ho/Min Ho makes a pretty good psychopath but I am getting tired of him and I had to think hard about what his motive was that got all this going in the first place. Also, I am not convinced of the reason why his father and wife still keep his identity a secret. Then there's mom who I think will be the whistle blower.
Love the hot and cold chemistry between the characters in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. Hyunk Sik is handsome from every angle imaginable, but I don't underestimate for a second the charisma and handsomeness emanating from Ji Soo. Put them both in the screen shot at the same time and I have to shield my eyes from the shining gory ~
My Father is Strange - I am recapping this weekend draa all for the love of Lee Joon and his performance as In Sung in Heard it through the Grapevine. I am so in love with Mom and Dad who have made their home a safe place for their adult children to grow and excel. Only two episodes in but I think this is a keeper. Anyone else watching this? (also Lee Yu Ri and Jung So Min are in it.)

I dont usually post in OT and am usually of a lurker here.
But I saw MONSTAR this week and HAD to talk about it.
What a cute little drama! Maybe not so little as the episodes dragged on and on while so many story lines were wandering aimlessly everywhere by end, but still it captured my heart.
The initial episodes just took me in for a ride and got me into the story as we discovered new things about each and every character. It was a lot of back and forth between liking and disliking them, but at end they all felt so real. I started feeling like a mama bear. And the song sequences! Man they were perfect and glorious.
Considering almost all of them are new actors, the acting was quite decent as well. I didnt know it was just 12 episodes and got a massive shock when I realized that the show just ended like that!
What about my Sun Woo-Nana ship??? They cant leave it like that. I was so disappointed but then I understood the open ending. It made sense in my head and I could see them figuring things out slowly over time. Still I wish they did not end so abruptly.
Despite its flaws, I do love the show and I keep going back to their soundtrack. To me, this will be one of the few shows that I will rewatch time to time.

This week was one of hardest week. When i have to see "my friend is having an affair". She is one of my close friends and this incident made our friendship got worse.
Loving someone else is acceptable, from my point of view. But postig a pic of loving someone else on media when you already have a husband is unaceptable. It was so hard for me to understand her, and i did try and i failed. When we talk, she told me: she doesnt have to report every single day to me, if i dont support her, there is no need to tell about her life. Sharing a post on facebook is her right and she doesnt have to worry about other view.
I am confused, do we have to support everything from your close friend? And if i dont support her, i dont have a right to keep an eye on her? Love is no wrong even you're marriage? Does he will love her unconditio later on? And does she will have a happy ending? Do u have a right to use ur own media to share ur affair?
Its just not my belief and i wish someone could tell me about am i asking too much from her?
Sry for turning this post from bright to a bit dark. I just couldnt sleep :(

*sends hugs* Having friend-troubles can be the worst and I hope you two will find a way to solve it.
First of all, I don't think you have to support your friends' every move. You have a right to disagree with something they do or worry about whether something's good for them and whether they're happy. Telling your friend that you're worried for them or that you don't agree, is something you can do exactly because you are friends (imo), because you feel comfortable sharing and because you love them and want the best for them.
However, once you have voiced your concern, it's not your place to meddle in their affairs (as in the idiom, though here it fits literally too). I think it's important that friends can share their opinions and worries, but if your friend tells you that this is what they're doing and this is their choice? Then it's time to just say "ok" and let her be. Perhaps just let her know that you love her, but that since you don't feel comfortable with her choice, you won't be participating in talks about her affair etc? You could just ask her that you avoid the subject - you won't meddle if she won't share (at least when it's you she's specifically having a conversation with).
We all make choices and none of us will ever 100% understand another human being. If she posted it on social media it means her husband knows, right? If so, then it's between those three and what they choose to do about it. I'd feel weird about it if her husband doesn't know, though.
Secondly, social media is there for people to use however they want. As long as there is no: 1) bullying/namecalling/etc, 2) inappropriateness (as in it would be illegal-inappropriate) and 3) encourages hate towards others (like racist/sexist/etc comments), then I think people can pretty much do what they want with it. It's your friend's choice to share this and it may not seem like a good choice to you, but it's up to her. If she'd been posting mean comments or something, I'd probably make an issue of it, but people's love lifes are their own to do with as they please (within legal/ethical/etc bounds of course).
Personal story:
I once had a friend who two-timed on her bf with bf's best friend. When she first told me, I was like "whaaat? Dude, not cool. You need to decide and tell your bf". But after that I kept quiet. She eventually figured it out herself and the trouble it brought them all was not mine to meddle in - I'd already let her know my opinion once, she knew how I felt and could take it into consideration or not. Sometimes that's just how things have to be.
Another friend of mine always wanted to get back together with her ex when she was drunk and used to call me up or text me then - I'd tell her that she shouldn't, because that's not meddling, that's just looking out for her when she's not in a place to take good decisions (and she'd told me he was no good). My point being, I think different times call...

Anyway, this ended up being a really long reply, sorry about that! I just really get why you're worrying so much about it and wanted to maybe help with a different perspective and thoughts from a person not connected to your situation emotionally.
I really hope that you figure it all out. Whether you agree with my answer or not, I hope that it might have helped bring at least a little clarity and peace of mind. Best of luck with it all! :)

Thanks so much, I really appreciate about it.
I was telling a very basic story about her and her affair. Im friend with both of them, she and her husband. But Im her closed friend. After the incident, we as a group who are knowing each other more than 10 years, feel very uncomfortable everytime we have a drink together. Her husband hasnt known anything because she hide her own post and the one she going out with's post from her husband. She shares her pictures with the rest of her friends except her husband. She told us directly when we asked her, leave her and her husband alone.
Everytime i have a conversation with her about my opinion, she cut me down because i dont agree with her the way she doing now. When i told her, "your new relationship is wrong at the beginning, but if you guys cant live without each other, pls sit down and have a plan. Think about ur poor husband who didnot know anything" She kept quiet. When i saw her first picture with her new man. I told her: there is something wrong, you and he shouldnt post it and leave all the comments as you are a new couple, and look like you didnt do anything wrong. It's wrong, have a plan and tell ur husband. She kept quiet. She came with conclusion that I am not supporting her, and she doesnt have to tell me anymore.
She started to hide all her wedding albums or her husband picture. I just feel the picture I am seeing now is so ugly, including my friend. I told her, there is no more i need to know about it, because you think you are right.
Anyway, i did unfollow her for my sake :) and I let her doing what she wants to do with her life. At the end, it's her life and it's not my business actually.

I had a friend who started having an affair, and brought her lover to a coffee night among our circle of friends. At the time, it didn't even occur to me that they were anything but good friends - until the next day, when she emailed all of us to tell us that she wanted us to keep it a secret from her husband (who we were also friends with).
Both my best friend and I told her that if she wanted to ruin her marriage it was no business of ours, but that we wouldn't be party to lying to our friend about it, and that if he asked, we would tell him. (And then we had choice words to say about her trying to make us complicit in her oathbreaking.)
You know what? Our flat, withering disapproval prompted her to break off her affair, confess to her husband, and strengthen her marriage. I've never been prouder to be a judgmental so-and-so.

well, look at it this way: can you or should you really do anything about it? is it really your business unless you are also a real good friend of the husband? does it hurt your life in any way? you are not responisble for your friends´ feelings. in the end they will solve it in bewteen themselves
I have had friends that unexpectedly broke up and the husband was my friend and I was indeed in shock learning they had it brewing for some time and, well, he hadnt exactly been very honest from the very start. but I let them deal with it. I didnt lose neither friend either and did try to support both in making the best choice, I listened and I was honest.

Hi beanies,
anyone here watching Tokyo Tarareba Musume? I'm up to episode 5 now and I'm quite enjoying it!
I LOVE dramas like this, cute girl friendship stories searching out for love! Does anyone know any other Japanese drama of the same kind?
Thank you and have a lovely weekend!

Not so much cute girl friendships, but perhaps try Over Time and Love Shuffle? Kekkon Shinai also has a nice girl friendship.

Is Tomorrow with You a good drama? It's so beautifully filmed, the directing aesthetics are so on point from what I have seen and the cast seems great too. The filming style reminds me of Valid Love.

To me its a good drama, not that great but I like it. Many have watched but also dropped but I do understand why they decided to drop, its not for everyone and it somehow slows down and there is a noble idiot act from both but I understand why they went into that noble idiocy.
Try it and see for yourself and I will be very happy if you would like it as much as I do. :)

expected a little more from the drama given that it's SMA and LJH but I've found it a little boring and repetitive at times. agreeing with Chowgirl about the noble idiocy going on in the drama - might've been understandable at the start of their marriage but we're into week 6 of the drama and it's still going on (frustratingly)
on the bright side, the storyline is pretty interesting - not the typical opposition-from-in-laws, crazy-birth-secret or psychopathic-second-lead-interruption. does occasionally leave me excited for answers to be revealed
you could just read recaps and watch whichever parts seem interesting to you

Been a while since I've come to OT, and finally back to watching dramas after real life interrupted.
Started A Life, which stars Kimura Takuya and Asano Tadanobu. Kinda wish Asano had taken the lead instead, although the antagonist role is a piece of cake for him too. So far liking Shibata and Okita's teamwork. Have Quartet and Rakuen on the watch list as well.
Caught ep 14 of Chief Kim on KBS and was interested enough to want to follow through with the rest of the drama. Also started Strong Woman Do Bong-soon, it's okay and sometimes funny, but I find Bong-soon a little annoying and wish Park Bo-young would tone down the cute.

A Life is a medical drama. You get the works - awesome surgeon (Kimura), his backstabby best friend, hospital politics, first love, etc etc. It's got a very solid cast though.
I would recommend these slice of life dramas:
- Shinya Shokudo (3 seasons, film)
- Okashi no Ie
- Fuben na Benriya
- Mahoro Ekimae Bangaichi

Just join any SWDBS thread and you'll see much love being thrown his way. From the get-go, everyone thought this would be solely Park Bo Young's show, but he's seriously charming his way up there with her. Ship them hard.

Hello fellow beanies!!
Does anyone have any 50-ep/ weekend dramas to recommend?
I've always stayed away from 50 ep dramas but recently started on Gentleman of Wolgyesu/Laurel Tree Tailors and I love it so much! It's my first ever long-series drama and I ate up the episodes without breathing.
Would be great to know of other similar dramas I can dig into~

What Happens to My Family (53 eps) and Can You Hear My Heart (30 eps) were exceptionally good. Full of lovable characters and organic relationships, and almost no makjang storyline going on there.
