I think it's cute that otheryoyo changed her name to defer to you. But maybe she's attached to "yoyo" too so she can't let go 100%. As long as it doesn't confuse us, I don't find it weird. :D

There's also the case of the 2 Jamie's. Checkout MLSHR episode 18, comment 14. ?

Han Ye-ri and Jeon Hye-bin are two of the few actresses who could do sageuk to near perfect. I've only seen Woo Hee-jin in Scarlet Heart.

The younger Lee Min-ho is much more natural in sageuks than the older.

What is it about sageuk that proves difficult for Korean actresses, do you think?

I did like Lee Min Ho in Faith, even with its flaws.

I really liked Woo Hee-Jin in ML:SHR. She has such charisma, presence: gravitas!!

Diction seems to trip up quite a few actors and actresses, as some come off sounding too modern. Also, how one carries oneself in sageuk is important.

The Scarlet Pimpernel! One of the best books ever, in my biased opinion. I love the movie too, big hair and all. ^^ Young evil Gandalf? Yeah that's a thing too. (Ok, he's not Gandalf here. But still.)

P&P
Lizzy: Jang Nara
Darcy: Lee Seo Jin
Jane: Han Hyo Joo
Mr. Bingley: Seo In Guk
Mr. Wickham: Lee Jong Suk
Lydia: Yoo In-na

Scarlet Pimpernel
Percy Blakeny: Seo In Guk
Marguerite Blakeny: Han Hyo Joo
Chauvelin: So Ji-Sub. That's perfect casting, right there. ^

I just thought about my perception of Wickham: charming, warm, a bit younger image than Darcy and much more personable, able to wear himself with style... I haven't seen LJS play a character with so much of a sleezy side, but I think he could play Wickhams cover story quite well. My first pick was actually LJG (since I know he can do the despicable act as well), but since he's listed as a Darcy above I didn't want to mess with that. ^^ I'd like to see what LJS would do with the role.

do a Wuthering Heights

I would recommend Choi Yeo-Jin as Catherine Earnshaw. her dancing scene in Valid Love was exactly the kind of vibe necessary.

I actually think Lee Jun Gi would make an excellent Heathcliff based on the clips of Scarlet Heart I've seen anyway. I've never watched a historical drama but am considering watching this one after it ends airing. Heathcliff needs to be vulnerable, cruel, swoony and Lee Jun Gi gives me those vibes for real.

For the other two great British literary romantic heroes I choose Jang Hyuk or Eric Mun to play Mr. Rochester and Joo Won to play Mr. Darcy :)

Cathy from Wuthering Heights - Lee Min Jung
Jane Eyre - Han Ji Min or Kim Go Eun
Lizzie Bennett - Seo Hyun-Jin

@redfox, yeah, I know Heathcliff has no fight scenes, but maybe we can let LJG have ONE drama without much fighting. Albeit, he probably would prefer some fighting.

LJG does Byronic hero so well.

Hmm... Mr Darcy or Heathcliffe. LJK just doesn't have the "brooding" thing going for me. After Colin Firth... I guess I'd be more likely to see a younger So Ji Sub as either one after the job he did in I'm Sorry, I Love You. He's got the arrogant brooding persona down in exactly the right way for either role.

Oh dear, I hope we can still be friends after I say that I never found Colin Firth attractive in the BBC version of P&P.

I know, I know. But I seriously thought he looked like a wet bulldog. And in my defense, THERE IS NO LAKE SCENE IN THE BOOK! ;)

I could totally see LJK being all icy, arrogant, and self-important acting. I would love to see him be all haughty and then fall for Han Ye-ri.

Also, LJK does intense, anti-heroes so well, I could see him as Heathcliffe.

I would never ever have thought of Lee Jun-ki as a Darcy or Heathcliff type if it hadn't been for seeing him as Wang So. It's like he opened up a whole new level of himself as an actor there.

Happy Friyay y'all!

I started a Moon Lovers marathon – planned it so I could catch up for finale week. Sooooo, after 18 episodes, I only have three words:

LEE. JUN. KI.

I liked him before, but LOVEEEEEE him now. Despite the editing flaws, the weird background music and the close ups that let me see IU’s fake lashes. It’s this man that just keeps me going back for more. I’m willing to forgive and forget for everything wrong with this show, because LJK is doing everything right.

As for the drama itself, I am enjoying it more than I thought I would since I really loved the C-version. I’m glad I chose to binge watch this because the flow/progression in story doesn’t seem as disjointed. It’s weird because ML makes me want to go back and watch the C-version again. I just felt like everything was more “richer” in it? – there was more emotion, more depth and just better execution in regards to everything, also helps C-version was 35 episodes, it let’s us really “feel” all the time skips. The K-version does stand on it’s own in some moments however (I mean, 10th prince’s tragedy had me crying) and I really hope it finishes strong!

Yep, your three words are worth saying in spades.

I don't know why, but ever since Cinderella ended, I've been having a hard time wanting to watch anything other than Moon Lovers. I had to drop Moonlight after the reveal that he saw she was a girl before he kissed her--that just killed the gender bend/angst to confess for me a dozenfold even if he wrote it beforehand. I've almost gone back to Flowers in Prison to see if the pace ever picked up again. I've also been watching Jingbirok now that I found a place to watch it with subs. I've learned enough Korean from watching k-dramas that I can understand basics with moderns, but with saeguks, there's so much I have a hard time with still.

Since I have such an unusual gap in my typical viewing schedule, one of the things I've done was burn through everything LJK has done in Korean that I can find subbed. I think I only have one or two left, which should get me through this weekend since I only have movies left.

I do feel bad for all the actors involved with Moon Lovers. It's a great story, some nice character developments, visuals in many cases are faboo (and I don't mean human faces in this case), but what a hot mess--and not in the sexy way often enough.

One interesting thing from watching all the previous plus ML around the same time is you can see how he develops certain aspects of his craft over time. It makes me want to do something similar with other actors/resses I like in the future.

I really do hope that the networks will learn sooner rather than later that they need better ratings to judge shows. Too many performers get dinged by a bad show, and then I cringe when I see roles they would have shined in but instead were given to another "hot" performer instead--often someone who lucked into a better show that helped everyone involved.

I'm really curious as to what version they will release on DVD. I've been thinking of finally breaking down and buying some of the shows I really like, but I still have to find a place to do so where I know the version will work here in the US. I'm kind of hoping that the DVD version will be better, and that it might even help the show grow on me even more when rewatching. That happened doe me with Faith (not saying special edits, just the got better each time after part.) When you know the story, sometimes you don't miss the little things that are just so amazing because they make the overall story better. I'm about ready to rewatch W for the same reason too.

The last thing I want to say about the re-views of old LJK shows is my biggest sorrow is no facial hair for him in ML. I was hoping there might be for the later parts. When I saw that last scene in Gunman, I was stunned because I had somehow forgotten just how utterly amazing he looked in that scene. He's quite good looking all the time, but in that scene, he solidifies his spot on my 10 exceptions list.

Required fields are marked *

I've certainly posted a lot on Moon Lovers thread so I have some investment in it, but I will definitely not buy a DVD of it unless they overhaul the whole thing. Neither version has been satisfactory in terms of editing, pacing, plot progression or character development, particularly for side characters like Baek Ah and Woo Hee (I'd be happy if they took her out altogether). My main issue has been the time leaps, but there are all sorts of other glaring issues, and a lot of tweaking that could be done on minor ones too.

I know how much extra footage they must have as well as deleted scenes (we saw some of them in draft scripts) they must have filmed. They could also do a lot with voice overs to keep the second half firmly in Su's POV instead of losing sight of her for a number of episodes in the middle, or leaving so many of her actions, motivations and thoughts up to interpretation. I like interpreting, mind you, it's one of the reasons I've been invested in the drama, but it's just too much for Moon Lovers.

I don't think anyone will invest this much time on it, however. It's too bad, because they really did have a fabulous product at base, I believe, in the script, but not enough time, or technical expertise, to do it justice in the final production.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Your three words sum up the watching experience of 80 percent of us. LJK IS Wangso and it has been an absolute joy watching LJK bring the character to life.

Moon Lovers is better enjoyed binge watched. It's easier to overlook the editing errors and appreciate the vision behind the storytelling when you take a birds-eye view and you see how the journey of the various characters have led them to this point.

Now, fingers crossed for an ending that does justice to everyone, us fans included.

Just finished rewatching HEALER - still as good as it was, I ff'ed some parts that is no longer a mystery to me (like the flashbacks) but at the end of the day, the OTP still gives me butterflies and the occasional comedic scenes are spot on. Secretary Evil is horrific but his OCD and his interaction with Healer are still hilarious to watch.

Started episode 1 of FANTASTIC and the pilot was quite good, the plot and characters are engaging especially the 3 girls. I am not sold on the male lead yet but there's still plenty of time.

And maybe because I just finished watching Healer - the fictional Hitman sounds like Ji Chang Wook's Healer (always wearing black, potential day-job as goofey reporter) cross-over with K2 (character's name is K).
And I died laughing when the grandma said the title is Heaterman.

Also started K2 and after 3 episodes, all I can say is Ji Chang Wook and Song Yoon Ah is ???
This ship would lead me to lots of heartbreak right?

Sadly to tell you the ship will sink for JCW-SYA. ? But depending on how you will feel about JCW-Yoona later on, because some probably shipping this hard, since these two supposed to be the end game.

As for Fantastic, you probably will fall with the male lead a bit later. Because he is among the best male lead that kdrama ever had. Sweet, caring & cute. This drama made me felt so hard because both male leads are too charming in their own way.

Required fields are marked *

Is K2 worth the watch? It depends, are you:

(A) A fan of serious politics drama (this ain't Healer)

(B) Ji Chang Wook fangirl?

I admit I use FF button a lot or do something else while the episode is on (like now) and only tune in when JCW's arms are in view or some big scene is on (like the car chase scene was quite mind blowing, or you know, the shower fight scene).

I haven't downloaded episode 5 and maybe I'll wait until the final beanies review is in or who knows, if I don't have anything else to watch, I'll check it out tomorrow.

The editor is good in choosing cliffhangers though so there's that. It piques my curiosity and the drama is quite slick, but it's not as addictive as Healer or (first half of) Yong Pal, yet as of now.

I think it's rare for a kdrama to give me a finale a really love, but these are the endings that really bugged me.

Dream High 2. So, so awful there are no words. Jinwoon's character was sort of just left to rot.

You're Beautiful. Simply because that of that airport scene. PSH's head and a double's male body was such a weird combo, it tops any other memory of the show for me lol!

Prince's Prince. Literally NOTHING is clearly explained.

Surplus Princess. One word: Whaaaaattttt.......

Drinking Solo. The only show I found really good that's made it onto the list of awful endings. Don't just throw in every cliche out there during the last two episodes. And don't put a couple together everyone's waited for by making the guy sleep with the girl while she's pretty near senseless from alcohol and heartbreak.

As someone mentioned, Cheese in the Trap (ughhhh, those final few episodes were just a pain to watch ?) ..and I would also have to add God's Gift 14 Days ? (I'm still scarred by this). The rest, thankfully, i was warned by beanies here so didn't even go near shows like Big, lol.

Not worst ending ever, but 2nd to Last Love's ending was disappointing. Reminded me of T-drama "My Queen." Prominent professional man wanting to marry professional woman (who has never been married) and she decides she wants to be Friends With Benefits. Why? Commitment issues? Mr. Go's has just being awarded most honorable public employee and has a teenage daughter living with him. Why some artsy type writer felt they needed to end like this was so disappointing.

They sorta followed the original Second to Last Love storyline ending. The original was a Japanese Drama that was two seasons long and one Fall Special in the middle. They basically took all of that and made a one season Korean version.

Hahaha the Chuno ending is epic as a slap in the face of poetic justice. But once you get over it, I think it is interesting they went in that direction with all the main characters. I just thought the way they trolled us about General Choi and Wang-son-aaaahhh was a huge plot hole.

Ooh, that's hard. I'm pretty picky with what I watch, I try to make sure it has a good finale before I even start it. I guess Who Are You (the ghostly one) had a super lackluster ending, but that drama was pretty meh overall. Oh! And the ending of My Amazing Boyfriend. What the heck?! They don't even get together, and now she's got something sketchy going on? Is there a season two?

Note: one of my criteria is that I have to have watched all the way to the end. Ohlala Couple (one of many examples) might have been a worse ending but I'll never know because the middle drove me away. So only shows that were sort-of good early on are eligible for my worst-ending list.

Happy Friday!

Drinking Solo: What an awful way to end the show with all those cliches. Noble idiocy and car of doom? Really? It was never perfect and I never cared much about HN-JS-GM triangle, but the trio+CY was awesome and it's rare for me to have laughed THIS much at a show. Jinwoong sleeping with drunk Jin Yi - not OK. But I love the actor, noticed he was in Girlfriend Is a Gumiho too, he's completely awesome. I like him and his impersonation of PBG much more than PBG (gasp! Yes, I just said that).

Still loving the adorable SKL, but since I'm watching with my mom I haven't seen this week's episodes yet.

Gu Family Book: LOVE!!!! It has sooooo many flaws, but it was SO addicting and awesome that I didn't even care. It managed to surprise me several times and Suzy wasn't actually that bad. I'm now completely in love with Lee Seunggi. It was my fourth drama with him and the more I see of him the harder I fall ha! Even if he's not the best actor out there and even though I don't find him particularly handsome, he's got that charm and warmth that makes me feel good every single time I see him on screen. And he was BORN to play a gumiho, what with that playful twinkle in his eye and that childish smile lol :D I feel so cheated that we didn't get to see him truly explore his gumiho-abilities (but LOVE that the show actually made him embrace it by the end!), so I really want one season more for that and then one for him and Yeo Wool to get back together in our time. One can always dream, right?

Does anyone know of any shows like this? Sageuks without all the court-intrigue, with more action and more humor? Or ones with gumihos? They're such fun mythical creatures :D

Cunning Single Lady: A year after dropping it, I finished it. Kinda wish I hadn't. Got a little bit better at ep 4, but then got incredibly messy and weird. Nothing made sense! Horrible music directing, bad editing, shaky writing. The Gook-siblings were both so selfish and clearly not in love, but obsessed. Joo Sang Wook looks so much like Ha Suk Jin it made me all confused. Lucky Romance seems to have taken some plot-points from this show.

1N2D Season 1: Because apparently LSG won't be back from military until next Oct and I'm addicted, so I need to watch him on screen somewhere, anywhere LOL. He's freaking hilarious irl too, love it! And Eun Ji Won is one of my faves in variety. Sad that the earliest episodes aren't available anywhere, esp as Jong Min went off to military so soon. I'd actually been meaning to watch this forever and now, since JJY isn't on S3 atm and it feels all empty I thought it'd be the perfect time. It's so much fun, I see why some people like this more than S3. Although I think not everyone gets a chance to shine as much as in S3.

Sorry for this post's rambling, I don't know if anything made sense lol.

So I started Jdrama this season and it kills me (in a good way )
When Kdrama started to insert a flight attendant and pilot, Jdrama this season have the various job like proofreader, the high-end cleaning service, career/bureaucrat police, housewife...
Jimi Ni Sugoi : Chatty Ecc-chan (Satomi Ishihara) is the best, she is clear and fast and I just like it.
Her chemistry with Masaki Suda is heartwarming and she also looked good with her co-worker, still, I can't think of anything with Tsubaki Honda,
she seems just there without impact.
I love how they highlight her job and this drama is really hard to sub to make the text she edited makes sense for English speakers.
Umei ni, Nita Koi : Started this just based on the title and it's beautiful.
The Story is the usual fate encounter story but the character and their dynamic are so appealing for me.
This drama tells the second encounter of a young rising architect (probably in his 30+) with a 45 woman, a divorcee with a son in high school.
I admire the heroine for doing her job really good and being a good mother, it reminds me of my mother.
Then the story is like fantasy but shot realistically, many dramas like to make the fated encounter in their 20 so it gives hope but this meeting is like 20 years late,
the attraction , their normal life and all interaction feels like possible but meeting a younger successful handsome guy when you are older that connected to your childhood really sounds impossible.
I also really like how the camera linger on the actor when they reacted, so even if they seems to be okay with some harsh statement, you know they hold back because fighting back to people that just want to mock you is not a good idea, just don't care, don't let them have what they want.

Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu
thanks for @aranea that mention the drama and I love how down to earth the story is,
he needs her and she needs him but it also fascinating to saw how he seems too afraid accepting her affection,
it understandable and all the small routine they did just speak to the intimacy level,
1% of Anything ...Kyaaa.... this is like a sweet ice cream, you know you want it and you like it.
They listen to each other, they behave like a couple, Dada unknowingly makes Jae In realised that the idea for him to marriage her is not bad at all,
He loved it, they even can add the cohabitation hijinks to this adaptation, oh god, I love it so much.
If people saw them, there's no way you gonna believe they have a contract for dating, even if you believe they have, you still wants them to be together.

Question: hey I am thinking of a drama with Kim Jae Wook, Lee Soo Hyuk
and No Min Woo . . . what is the plot gonna be?

my friend laughing and she is really brave, she hunts it,
so yeah I didn't do it alone, I didn't deserve the credit,

I think I afraid with it since my dad used to pick it and scare me since I was child, he like running with it to me, I also accidentally step it inside my shoes multiple time when I was kid, so I don't like the sight of it,
*pardon the story,

0

Aww, Sancheezy. I think my fear of cockroaches came when I accidentally stepped on one and it just went gooey smashed under my feet, yuck! Giant flying cockroaches... *shudder*

When I moved from New Jersey to Hawai'i in my mid-twenties, I was shocked out of my shoes to encounter "B-52s" who would fly right at you when you tried to flatten them with slipper in hand. For me the worst encounters were finding them on the ceiling above my bed. No way could I go to sleep until I'd sent them to meet their Maker. Since I had no desire to poison myself with insecticide, I swatted them... and cheered when resident geckos moved in.

I once saw a baby gecko stalking a minuscule roach... heard a tiny crashing sound as the gecko fell off the window screen above the kitchen sink, and later spotted him on the wall with the roach in his mouth. It was like something out of MUTUAL OF OMAHA'S WILD KINGDOM, but without the lions and wildebeests.

@Sancheezy:
You are a better person than I, what with persuading your visitor to fly out a window. The vision of it in my mind's eye lends new meaning to the phrase "herding cats." ;-)

@Pollyanna:
How well I remember the stench. Yuck... Double ick to having one run down your back.

@michykdrama:
For me, nightmares were only theoretical as I wouldn't even try going to sleep if I knew a B-52 was on the loose. -- Godspeed with your international move. ;-)

@maryxiah:
When I was a kid, there was a summer when the lawn was full of Japanese beetles, and another when the 17-year locusts (cicadas) emerged and were likewise in the grass, on the pavement, and singing in the trees. You couldn't step anywhere outdoors without something crunching under foot. Or crashing into you in flight as the cicadas were ungainly fliers. It was gross to the max.

*shudder* I can imagine how gross that'd be. I wouldn't have stepped outside the house at all. Still I have to commend you, at least you're brave enough to kill it! I can't go anywhere close to cockroaches, it's bad for my heart, lol.

Having said that I watched both Pride and rich man poor woman and loved them. Thanks for the reco
Although I felt the character of both women could have been better. In RMPW Satomi's character was just not interested in her own career. She bunked interviews, and in the special, she was willing to give up on her job when the company moved to America. I mean she was a scientist for gods sake!!
In Pride too, the female lead waited forever for her boyfriend to get back. And when he cam back after no contact t fir years , she went back to being his girlfriend without a come-to-Jesus talk !
I loved the story, the leads in both were very good looking and very good actors.

for the JDrama heroine in rom com, the focuses can shift if the male lead is the centre of the drama unless the female lead is the centre like in Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, or drama with older age female lead,

Ah, yes, maybe because most of the subbers seems to be working alone or just in small teams (I guess). Subbing job definitely takes time, and most of the case they're busy with their job. Some dramas are more difficult to sub when there're not Japanese sub and they are difficult to understand (well, all the subtleties and hidden meaning). The worst case is (imo) the subbing project stopped halfway. That's why I'm really grateful of J-drama subbers.

However, for this season's dramas, some drama subs are pretty fast, Imo, like Career, Hippocratic Oath and Cold case, or a week (or few weeks if picked up really late) like the rest. Somehow I have good feeling that all of the dramas getting subbed this season will get subbed until finish. ^_^

Umei ni, Nita Koi : The heroine and her son make this story. Unfortunately, she is too nice and surrounded by too many selfish people. The handsome younger designer is hiding a big secret. His relationship with the CEO's wife is nothing but trouble. He has the potential to do more harm than good. He needs to commit himself fully to her or get out of her life completely. Expect a lot of ANGST.

Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu : Three episodes have aired, but only two have been subtitled.

I found the pseudo-documentary scenes very strange, but effective. Their purpose seemed to be to speed character development. Within the first couple minutes of the drama we were able to learn a lot about Mikuri. The second episode has a similarly strange opening. The third did not, I watch it without subtitles.

I also like the premise of the marriage contract. I like how the drama details the hard work involved in maintaining a household. The scene where Hiramasa calculates Mikuri’s wages is priceless. It educates in an entertaining way. It promises to be a quirky, light drama with a valuable lesson to teach.

I think the choice of actors is spot-on. Hiramasa is moderately handsome, intellectual and quiet. Mikuri has a wholesome beauty, is energetic, brutally honest and very naive. Both actors made me believe the storyline. According to their bios the male lead is 1 cm taller than the female lead. I suspect she seems taller because women’s shoes tend to have higher heels than mens.

I like that Hiramasa is a nice guy. I like that he has a healthy respect for women. He has flaws, but they are the type that can be fixed. Mikuri is also an excellent person, though she can be her own worst enemy. She is sometimes too honest, with very bad timing. What she needs most is someone who believes in her. Someone who values who she is. I believe their relationship will follow the respect -> like -> love progression, with a bunch of comic moments in between.

I am also convinced the Mikuri’s aunt will find love with one of Hiramasa’s co-workers. There are two likely, very different possibilities. Which leaves two questions. Is my hunch correct? Which co-worker will find love?

Interested in Japanese dramas? An excellent series of dramas to test the waters is Shinya Shokudo.

Set in a small restaurant in the corner of a shopping district. The unusual eatery is only open after midnight, and its standard menu consists of just a single choice. However, the customers still come for the amusing chatter and the proprietor's willingness to cook any dish that they request. This drama depicts the lives of the restaurant's patrons, including a yakuza, an unsuccessful actor, a group of office ladies, a newspaper delivery boy, and a stripper.

I really loved the actors choice,
This really gives us the worry feeling cause the other guy/the taller one become threat without he even said anything,
he is his boss, can talk with her and seems like pursuing her (to make it worst)

but we saw how living together really changes everything, like needed a bigger house, need a new furniture, it's not simply bringing someone into the other's life but making the life together,

I also think the aunt will be a couple with the tall coworker, they seem match,

I've watched Shinya Shokudo season 1 , it lovely and I love the food,
I wished my place has that kind of restaurant,

I would watch the Japanese seasons in order, but everything is kind of standalone. Sometimes two episodes are used for a complete story. It is an assemble cast with Master as the central unifying character. My only real caution is not to watch it on an empty stomach, delicious food is the second lead is every story.

The short answer is YES. Give yourself a treat for Halloween and watch the movie.

@Aranea

you can't watch Midnight Dinner after eating something cause might think of eating again after that, hahaha

Shinya Shukudo!
Aside for the food, watching it after coming back from work is something.
For this dorama, I always take my time to watch and listen the opening song.
Somehow it make me feel tired, in a good way.
I'm that typical type-A girl who like to push myself to the limit and never want to admit that I'm tired or even complaint until my work completely done which I know is kind off destroying my body and mind.
But that opening song always make me sigh as if every burden suddenly fall and I just feel like to rest and feel relieve after that.

The Korean version was very well done. It honored the spirit of the Japanese versions without feeling like a simple remake. The most amazing part was they managed to find a Korean actor for "Master", the restaurant's owner, who was almost perfect. They could have been twins separated from birth with completely different parents. Which of course makes no sense, unless in a Korean drama.

Ah all the jdrama talks here made me remember that I forget to thanks @Alua for recommending 'Soratobu Kouhoushitsu' some weeks back on open thread. That drama is a gem. I have just started watching aragaki yui on 'we married as a job'..so finding the former mentioned drama was like finding a lottery ticket! Add to that the fact that it's kind of a rom com, but overall a character driven drama with lots of side stories on the japanese public relation dept. for the air staff office lol. Also watching blue impulse on the sky made me craving all the rides, and this is coming from someone who has zero interest in fighter planes and stuff, and has phobia of heights. Anyway I wish there were more dramas for the actor Gou Ayano, but it seems that he has mostly been playing side roles. But their pairing, chemistry and rapport altogether were seriously the reason which made the drama work for me.
Apart from that I've also watched wood job from shota sometani. This is my first time watching him, but that role and all the antics at the village were truly hilarious, I have not seen anything close to that story in recent time. Very fresh and unique concept-wise.

Go Ayano!! yes I really like his acting,

he also in Saikou no Rikon as the other male lead and he is different than in Soratobou, he can be irritating but somehow you can see how different he is,
he is in Long Goodbye , one of my favourites from him, also the lead in Subete ga F ni Naru and Kounodori for the recent years,
I think he is more of a macho type ( like manly ) so he doesn't really go towards romcom and he just start popular like in 2013, he even in yae no sakura and have that chonmage hairstyle (TT.TT)

then thank you for mentioning Shota ^^, he is one of my favourites younger actors and he doesn't really in drama as male lead,
yes he did the Minna Esper Dayo, but that drama is weird, like really weird for people that never watch anything like it,
you probably gonna like him in xxholic and I think he is expecting his child in early 2017

I haven't watched the one that you mentioned. I did catch bits of 'xxholic' but the concept went over my head :S. It was bizarre mix of horror, mystery and something that I can't point out exactly. And by the time the drama was over I was still without any clue. Wood job was funny and not to be taken seriously. Compared to that I guess other shota sometani projects are more grave and prone to realistic portraiture may be?

Reading you type him as macho type somehow make me remember him playing gay in Story of Yonosuke.
It's sad that Ayano Gou mostly only play supporting character.
Most people complaint with kissing scene, but I find that their kissing scene in Soratobou is cute. And their reaction after that . . . "sorry may be it's more than a second" . . . I don't expect it coming! It so cutely innocent!

I would like to add 'Kuroi 10 nin no Onna( 10 black women)' to watch for J drama viewers.

This is in a way very Japanese drama. The story is about a middle aged TV producer( a typical middle aged worn out looking man, not a handsome dude. I like that.) but the focus on the story is not about him. It's about his 9 mistresses and his wife( Even his wife admits that she cannot control her husband's infidelity.) Gradually mistresses started finding that her loved one got 9 women and each started getting to now his other mistress and wife each other. Each woman has her own mind set/personality and each unique way to cope with the fact . The tone of the drama is not heavy and can be hilarious sometimes yet sad at the same time. Their internal conversation is really insightful and funny. I am not sure how this drama would end but I am looking forward to this. This is not a typical heavy handed love affair story at all. Usually love affair dramas come with beautiful camera work to create some atmosphere and sentiments. This drama is not one of those and yet it is brilliant so far.
I get a feeling that all women will get together and decide to do some revenge against the man in the end.

I have taken a long break from J-doramas so don't know latest shows names and have forgotten most of actors names too. I'm right much into glamour of kdramaworld. 2017 will be my j-dorama year.

This year i have only watched 1 japanese movie named HanaMizuki and dropped many. Druker in the Dug was one of them. You can try both.

10 Black Women is into my 2017 watchlist.

what I like in jdorama is how they potrait the grey area in every aspect. Even make us feel some sympathy for character who did something which morally wrong.
Other recommendation for affair drama is Hirugao. It's about housewife who having afternoon affair (and with Ueto Aya there is a plus). The ending make me feel conflicted because I know that having affair is wrong (I see commitment highly), but I can't help to to wish for them to be together.

I love love that show (1% of something), too. It is like the slow food movement, but it's a slow romance movement instead. I love that she naturally can't help but do her best and be kind to him. I love that as we know his backstory, we understand him more. I love that he really has started to value her. I love that they take their time getting to know each other. And this last episode (8)...

Swoon. Rewind. Swoon.
Rewind. Swoon. Swoon. So Fantastic!

It did bother me a bit that Dada always gave into him in the beginning and let him pull her around, but it makes her naïveté when it comes to relationships more believable. In the original he was so helpless that it was hard to like him, and she seemed more like a mom than a girlfriend.

The remake, however, let's him be a jerk, but not a helpless jerk. I love that they wrote him as capable and hardworking and a bit of a ladies' man. It adds to the magic of how opposite they are. Spot on!

Where do you watch your jdramas?

After watching tons of kdramas after many many years, I still have difficulty in certain scenarios/things like:

1. The main lead guy is a bad guy at the start and does many horrible things to the heroine e.g. shouts at her/ verbally abuses her..At the middle of the drama, the guy suddenly becomes interested in the heroine and when they start to tag along, I hate it when the main lead guy never even remembers all those hateful and stupid things he did to the girl. All I am waiting for is his sorry but so far, I can't remember any drama I've seen where the male lead guy did that.

2. Strong female heroines at the start and then becomes dumb at the end

3.When the job the character portrays is taken for granted and the romance is all you can see as if it's the only thing the drama can show. Why did they even make them do those jobs in the first place if romance is all the characters do? Some younger audiences might misunderstood what those jobs really are in real life and they might think that they are just limited to what they see on television.

There are tons of things I still hate but these are all I can think about now. What about you?

so agree. say sorry, do your job, I am watching dramas after coming from 12 hour days so why do I only see those people smooch around and drink coffee don´t know. they must have a magical job that does itself. There were people working in She Was Pretty though... and some others...

about the heroine turning weak: maybe the strong alpha male presence drains her from energy so that she zombiefies?

An that is the most profitable genre. Young people like cheesy fictional romance more than anything in the world. They are the main customer base so its acceptable to target them as ferociously as possible.

+100

Plus the fact that some actors/actresses get disproportionate amount of hate (not even criticism) over the fact that the seemingly choose too similar roles. Most scripts have only couple of episodes written anyway when they have to decide whether to take the role or not, without knowing how it will turn out.

Even if they did know all of the plot beforehand I wouldn't hate on them for choosing similar characters. This is their job. If those are the only offers coming in, do we expect them to starve just to "take on new challenges"? It's very easy to say that we're sick of them playing the same characters, but it's also very inconsiderate.

1) Sometimes I do hear the sorry part but I can't remember any, 1% of Anything seems to make the male lead said sorry as I remember

2) I don't think the female lead is actually strong from the start tbh, they like to insert random punch from the heroine in early ep to give strong impression but then developed them as not the as strong as the 1st impression that we actually prefer

3) that's the long running joke in Kdrama
Profession -> plot
doctor -> love story about doctors
lawyer -> love story about the lawyer
Chaebol -> love story about chabol

setting -> plot
School drama -> love story in School
college -> love story in college
Paris/Harvard ->love story in Paris and Harvard

By now I kind of accept that each country have their own their typical storyboard, it's like their fingerprint.
Everytime I watch hollywood movie, especially survival movie where ppl keep dying one by one, I joke with my friend that one girl will survive either as sole survivor or just to be kissing partner with the hero in the final scene. It's kind of a rule, what is hollywood without kissing scene. Even their procedural series mostly have similiar team member and plot.
Or India, bollywood always have dancing scene and their tv series is mostly about sash-bahu where it seems like everyone live in palace and wear excesive jewellery even when sleeping.
Or the old mexico telenovela where mostly it about candy girl meet rich boy but for some reason they separate and she come back as more refine girl to have revenge.

So it everywhere, not only korean. May be its the audience taste that lead to that pattern.

3. This is what I'm often disappointed of many K-dramas I've tried. Those dramas often have a synopses like "a talented ..... with some background struggle to earned a success", but what I've got is the love triangle or more that really affect the job itself, etc.

Also, maybe because some K-drama viewers have already used to romance genre, they started to feel dissatisfied of non-romance focused dramas, like "oww, they have good chemistry, why don't they end up together" or other comments related to that.

Other thing I find bothering is the first lead, second lead, third lead "system" thingy. I'm glad that more dramas don't have that kind of "system" nowadays.

I also started my own shoujo manga live adaptations marathon and gah, what a breath of fresh air after the intense Missing Noir M. I'm on a Yamazaki Kento roll right now and I am absolutely loving SUKINA HITO GA IRU KOTO thanks to the beaut that is Kiritani Mirei.

I think I've typed it before (sudden dejavu)
but Kento is the only available one for now,
he is handsome, young and good enough also perfect physical description of shojo hero, not overly manly,

other young actors like Masaki Suda (he is kinda short but he likes the serious movie than high school and drama with more older age range), Sometani Shota (he always in a serious movie), fukushi shota (he is not that good), Ryonuske Kamiki is short,
*sorry for the short thing but shojo manga usual hero almost has the same physical description and it's an adaptation

I think Mackenyu and Sakaguchi Kentaro can probably played the shojo prince, but Mackenyu had scandal and Kentaro hardly passed as high school anymore,

we need the new face, just someone good,
my vote goes to Taishi Nakagawa and Ryo Yoshizawa

*I can't believe I remember all of those names,

agree with your comment, especially that Fukushi Shota is not good (but he almost get lead role in every drama, which I guess has something to do with his agency).

I can't picture Sometani nor Kamiki doing romcom dorama (so do Yuya Yagira in their generation). They always do dark movie and it suit them more, especially Kamiki with his angelicsmile-coldbloodeye (I still wish he can have acting showdown with Hashimoto Ai, both playing psychopat-killer try to kill each other).

0

So I watched STROBE EDGE and AS THE GODS WILL and I need to agree with your "fukushi shota (he is not that good)" hahahahaha

Even after my Yamazaki Kento marathon, I'm not that drawn to him as how other international fans are. He's fine but shoujo live adaptations do not really showcase his acting abilities. The only work where he took my heart (uhm...) is Sukina Hito ga Iru Koto and that was not based on any manga. He was also good in Death Note 2015 but it was Kubota Masataka who really shined for me in that drama.

0

I have no idea who those guys are, lol, I barely watch any J-dramas, and when I do, I don't take notice of the actors/actresses.

0

Masaki Suda, Sometani Shota and Kamiki Ryunosuke are all brilliant young actors. They don't really do rom-coms, and tend to opt for dark, sad or "weird" stuff but they have all done comedy – the quirky Japanese kind of comedy.

Try Suda in Jellyfish Princess (which is a sort of rom-com, but more focused on the quirky than the romantic), Kamiki in 11 Nin mo Iru! and Sometani in Wood Job. All of these three films/dramas are hilarious.

Can't blame them for not doing pure shoujo rom-coms – 99% of those are low-quality productions that seem to be made for a quick cash in from fans only to be forgotten forever within a few months.

0

Yamazaki Kento is actually quite good – it's just that he's stuck in the worst of dramas that make no use of his acting abilities because for some reason his agency seems intent on sending him down the same route as Fukushi Sota (who cannot really act at all).

I still hold out for him – was fortunate to see him first in Kanseito (Control Tower), an indie film, paired with a solid actress (Hashimoto Ai). Still hoping one day he'll get away from those paper-thin shoujo dramas and actually take on roles that will challenge him and allow him to shine.

My favorite crime/police drama is MISSING NOIR M. Korean dramas are full of injustices/corruption, but this one made me realize how bad it can really get in South Korea if you're in the wrong side of the people who makes laws. In addition, the grittiness of South Korea is more pronounced in MISSING NOIR M, than in other dramas.

This drama is also the main reason I can never fully love Signal.

Hello beanies! Wish all of you will have a great weekend!

Despite a lot of new drama coming, I'm in the mood to re-watch some old drama. One reason is for nostalgia purpose, and other is to understand the story more as when I first watch it I was a grade schooler.
For example j-dorama Tokyo Love Story. When I first watch it, I was mad because Kanji didn't end up with Rika. It's just that I love Rika so Kanji is bad person since he made Rika cry, and Satomi is a witch! And now when I watch it again (after almost 20 years later), I can finally see how complicated their relationship is. Especially after read the manga, I'm sure that the innocent me back then will not be able to take it.

But there are some which I can't remember it's title nor cast. So beanies, I need your help to identify below drama. I know may be I should post it in Name That Drama, but it's not kdrama I guess I will get better chance here (well, kdrama is not my first foreign drama experience). So here they are:
1. It's a jdorama. About two girls who love same man. This two girls are bestfriend and they live together, one of them is a dancer. The man love the other girl (say, girl A) and they marry, but the dancer girl stay supportive to her friend. Girl A then die after giving birth while her husband is away (it seems like he is aspiring to become director and leave to America to study movie). The dancer was in the mid of ballet performance (vaguely remember) when she get called that girl A is dying and she ask her to raise her child.
I swear it's not Hana and Alice (as google search lead me to). I'm fans of Yu Aoi so I've watch it and I'm sure it's not. I watch it around mid 90's so this dorama might be older than that.

2. Another jdorama. Boy love girl but he dies in an accident when he want to confess his love. He then possess the driver (who crash him) to convey his feeling (but offcourse the girl hate him since he killed her boyfriend, as she love him too). There are condition that he can't reveal his identity and he need to guide other dying soul (to go on or back to live). In the end he can confess to the girl and die, it was night and there is rainbow in the sky as his way to heaven.
At first I thought that this is jdorama which was adapted to kdrama Come Back Ajusshi but after I check it, sadly it is not.

3. It's tw-drama around end 90's or early 2000. It's a school drama. There is female security (not sure, but unlike the teachers she wear uniform and was in military training), PE teacher who fall for her (which is japanese or come from japan), and other guy who also attracted to her (it seems like he's school principal but he's young so he can be the chaebol son of school owner). There are a lot of funny scene and hijinks. She end up with PE teacher; she have bad sight and in one occasion he stole a kiss from her when she can't see properly, it seems like that's how it starts. There are story about the student too, one of it is...

one of it is about the deliquent boy and beautiful-shy girl. It's a fun drama and I really want to know how it end.

Yes, no 2 is anything for you (and luckily I find where I can get the full series of it!).
But no 1 is not tomodachi no koibito. From what I get from the short summary and some short clip in youtube, I'm sure it's not. I remember that the dancer girl is not in relationship with the guy and she give him up because she love her friend more, their friendship is the highlight of the drama, I like it because no catfight over a guy in this drama.

Happy Friday! Still trying to catch up with drama watching and recap reads, but I just have to skip the comments in 'Moon Lover' recap which is darn overwhelming. Speaking of which, I felt so relieved they didn't go C-version route in killing the girl. I was bothered by that scene for a long time after I watched the C show.
btw how amazing Park Jin-joo (Nurse Oh in JI) was in the last King of Masked Singer? I really thought she would compete against the king (Then again king lady is awesome singer Ali).
Dramawise, this is indeed best drama year. I can't believe we still have more much-anticipated dramas coming before the year ends, like Entourage, Legend of blue sea, Goblin, Romantic doctor etc.

TVN's new Fri-Sat drama 'Entourage' had the production press conference [OSEN, The Fact]. This pre-production drama is remake of US HBO drama (aired between 2004 to 2011). Korean version plans to cover fancy and interesting entertainment world which includes Korean movie industry and K pop idol market. Original is filled with provoking episodes dealing drugs and sex scandal. About that, PD Jang Young-woo and writer Seo Jae-won said "We focused on bromance and reality. The show has been adjusted to the level to fit to Korean sentiment. Still it surpasses the standard of KCSC." (Korean Communications Standards Commission reviews what is shown on TV with goal to guarantee broadcast content's fairness and public interests.) Jo Jin-woong said "Jang has to be prepared to write 'Written explanation' as the PD of the show."

The drama portrays life and experience of newly risen top star Young-bin(Seo Gang-joon) and his friends Ho-jin(Park Jung-min), Joon(Lee Gwang-soo), Gubook (Lee dong-whi) and CEO Eun-gap(Jo Jin-woong) in the entertainment world. These five guys are expected to show best ever bromance.

Jo Jin-woong plays CEO Kim Eun-gap of a big management company with army of stars. Kim has hot temper and curses all the time, but also has loyalty and affection. "Playing this character, I realized why some people did what they did. Just like the storyline in the drama, there was a time I was turned down by a director, and my company CEO said something to me. As I was acting, I realized "Oh that is why CEO placated me that time. He was comforting me." That was thoroughly melted into the acting. Jo loves his character. "This character was so interesting. The reason I am still excited like this is because I don't want to let go of Kim Eun-gap yet. Whenever I have a chance, I live as Kim Eun-gap." About KCSC concern, he said "The standard in our country is not fun. Because even if something[in drama] goes over [the standard], it is still within range of human activity. It is not like a crime."

Seo Gang-joon plays an actor Cha Young-bin who is a top entertainer who has shining looks, rebellious eyes, and innocent smile. "He is cool in that he doesn't compromise if there is a work he wants to do. As a person in the entertainment industry, Young-bin looks cool. We have similarity in personality. I have decision making impediment. Cha also acts considerate of others, rather than insisting what he wants. But if there is acting chance he desires, he becomes stubborn."

Lee Gwang-soo plays once-shined star Cha Joon who debuted in late 1990. The character bluffs his popularity is still going on. "He is a character who is sometimes like a mom and sometimes manly." The show is like actual celebrities describing fancy and secretive side of entertainment world. Lee said (and others agreed) "Each character has own unique color. I think at least one person who has same personality of our characters really exists. Before start filming director-nim and writer-nim did lots of interviews with us, and actual events during that process were also incorporated into the drama. They even added the talks we shared during the meal to the script, I thought it was such realistic script. It was even more interesting acting it."

Park Jung-min plays Young-bin's manager Lee Ho-jin. He is YB's friend from childhood and a person YB trusts and depends the most. "As I play a manager role, I annoyed my manager because I was having difficulties. I'd like to say "I am sorry" to my manager. I sometimes complained, but I will try not to do it again. I will became an actor who cherishes my manager." About the friendly set atmosphere everybody praised, Park said "I went to the set even when I didn't have any shooting schedule because I missed seeing co-workers and staffs." PD Jang said "This is the first time I shoot the drama having so much fun with actors. I enjoyed filming enough that I didn't want to part. I hope the viewers also have fun watching like us."

Lee Dong-whi plays Gubook(meaning turtle) who is 'Just frolicking dude' and comic relief. He is witty guy who enjoys fooling around and playing jokes, but he acts pitiful in front of a woman. Lee is impressed about these realistic characters. "I even thought "Isn't there actually an actor like Cha Young-bin, Cha Joon?" I wondered if I really acted a Gubook/turtle. Since I have never lived as turtle, it was hard to act. And I thought "Is it ok for me to have this much fun?" I felt and experienced a life (impressivley) I wanted to enjoy at least once in my life."

Be good show!

There were many interview articles this week, mainly from casts in Moonlight and Drinking solo (and Fantastic). Too bad that I didn't have a chance to translate them. Here are some of comments from their interviews:

Drinking Solo:
Han Suk-jin: Actually actors and actresses were different from their characters in the show, except Hwang Jin-yi actress (Hwangwoo Seul-hye). She is same in real person as her character in the drama. (Wasn't she adorable?) If they do Season 2, I think Jin Jung-suk should be left out because he already has too much. My mother likes watching dramas and she said she laughed the most in ep 9 when JJS dressed up with his hair part. She said it was the funniest moment among all dramas I was in last 10 years and she said I would be cut for Season 2 because I achieved too much. And there was a scene I got hit with a lobster, where they used the real one and it hurt a lot. Later in the beauty shop I went to do my hair, they found it was bleeding. Also while shooting I nagged Park Ha-sun everyday to arrange a meeting with a woman (with spec he gave) after the show and she was like 'Stop it already'. Set atmosphere in '1% of anything' was very difficult, while atmosphere in 'Drinking solo' was very fun.

Gong Myung: Ha Suk-jin felt like real hyung so it felt like shooting with my real brother. (GM actually met his high school alumni in shooting set in Noryangjin) My friend was preparing for the exam in Noryangjin. We talked a lot and I found that they were actually having harder time than it was portrayed in the drama. Hope he can make it.

Min Jin-woong: Among all the impersonations, the one of Kim Rae-won sunbae-nim from Sunflower had the best response. Ha Suk-jin hyung loved it so much and copied me every time. One time Suk-jin hyung said "When I die, please come and do the impersonation of Kim Rae-won, then I think I can die in happiness." I don't have girlfriend yet because they feel burdened meeting at my age because my future is not secured as an actor yet.

Moonlight:
Kim Yoo-Jung said her pick would be Byung-yeon among three guys.
Kwang Dong-yeon who played Got Byung-yeon: Actually I love to talk unlike Byung-yeon, but he had no sense (slow-witted) in the drama which was similar to me. Bo-gum, Jun-young and I were same in that we all love music. We were checking whenever new OST comes out and when I was humming it on the set, Bo-gum hyung followed it. (Weird Bo-gum is called hyung since he seems always Maknae)

Jin-young: Honestly I wanted my character to die in drama because he was having difficult, conflicted life. It was very hard to do a death scene. They said Sageuk is where you can talk a lot when you die, you can die for a long time, so enjoy it.(lol) Yet it was hard. People see me as an idol which is burden, but I just have to try harder to show improved and better side. I just have to sleep less to do all.

But best interview was with PD Sin Won-ho of Reply series. I will try to post it sometime. One of his remark- "I hope Park Bogum stop contacting me. He keeps sending me texts. He said he finished 'Moonlight' safely thanks to me. What the hell am I got to do with the Moonlight?"

Other news:
There was 2016 Korean Pop culture art award and top winners were Song-Song couple from DotS and writer Kim Eun-sook.
Other winners included Jo Jin-woong(Signal), Hwang Jung-eum(She was pretty), Yoo Ah-in(SFD), Jo Jung-suk(JI) among others.

And what is with Kim Soo-hyun? He did good in pro bowler competition. Is he trying to be a professional bowler?

And My favorite scene in this week's watch was?
Louis' reaction when he spotted a spider. LOL LOL LOL

I was dying to read interviews of Moonlight casts all week when they were in Cebu but when all the interviews came out, I feel like dying because there were too much of them and I couldn't keep up, lol.

Park Bo-gum is so nice and sweet my teeth hurt just from reading his interviews, why is he so perfect? It's hard not to love him and his humility. I wish he reunites with Kim Yoo-jung in the future, they totally look good together. And this time, I hope Yoo-jung gets to be chaebol's daughter, and Park Bo-gum the lesser one, lol.

@maryxiah - Hi, how are you? First - Bae Soo Bin. You mentioned you don't like him .. here's where we differ, he's my fave K-actor. Next Hwang Chi Yeul - did you read that he won an award from the Minister of Culture (Korean popular culture and arts award). So happy for and proud of him! That is all for now :)

Kim Yoo-jung's been receiving netizen hate for saying the same things.
She stated that she wants to be reunited with Park Bogum in a another project too, but this time their roles would change. Hopefully she'll play a chaebol heir and Bogum would own a smaller business. The netizens are seeing this statement as negative saying how childish she is, that she should think twice before saying stuff like that etc.
Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with what she said. It's a rather logical sentiment, seeing that he played a prince before and she played a servant. So wouldn't it be nice change to have then set up in a reversal of fortune? It's not as if she curse Bogummy or something. Some Knetizens are a bunch of irrationally indignant haters who would really hate on just about anything to distract themselves from the emptiness of their meaningless, consumer driven lives.
Bogummy is SIZZLING HOT in South Korea (even in some other parts of the world too) right now, it's crazy, but a lot of fans feel that insane need to protect him. It's unsettling because time and time again some Knetizens have shown how tunnel-visioned they can get in protecting their idols. I worry about him and the people around him.

I know. I said that because I read her interview, and I find nothing wrong with what she said, apparently it was her wording, she said small shop owner (?) so people were getting defensive over being called "poor" for being small shop owner. *shrug* Fans can be irrational sometimes and they just love finding something to be negative about. I'm just sad that netizens seem to be more protective of male celebrities than the female.

Regarding Kim Soo-hyun and the bowling situation ..... I also have no idea what that's about really.

I don't know if it's a recent interest on his part as a hobby or if it's really training for an upcoming film project, or if turning professional is indeed a personal goal.

Who knows.

I think Sung Hoon was really in love with Shin Hye-sun during Five Children filming, you could totally see how he adored her in their interviews and he didn't straightforwardly deny having feelings for her. I wish they date for real though, they're so cute together.

0

Yes, I think it's not uncommon for actors to actually fall in love during the filming. And like Ha Suk Jin said, he would 'stop' feeling that way once it ended. This makes me wonder about married actors. I mean, even if you 'took care of your feelings' after the drama wrapped up, isn't it kind of wrong in the first place?

0

Oh, you mean he's referring to his own feelings...that would make sense, I was already thinking dude stop looking at her like that, this ain't acting anymore, you're totally smitten by her. ? Yeah both of them do look very convincing as a couple, the chemistry is no joke especially in this week's episodes...

Thank you! I've been wanting to read more interviews post Drinking Solo but there aren't many English translations.

I don't understand Ha Suk Jin. What does he mean by Jin Sung Seok achieved too much? LOL at the lobster, that's one of the funniest thing I've ever seen a male lead being clobbered with.

So HSJ pestered Park Ha Sun to introduce him a woman? Isn't it ironic that actors need help in this area? You'd think there are many women who will be interested. Or is it like what Jin Woong said? If you are just starting out or not yet successful, you aren't a very good marriage prospect. If you are successful then you may find women who are interested not in you but your fame/wealth/success.

Anyway 4 hour is short. There are performances (playing Korean traditional instrument) in middle somewhere between gates inside and has Korean culture room in upstairs (also shops with Korean stuff).

Any Solimers here??? Lately I feel so much happiness because of these two. I pray they are real . ??? They keep teasing us on their posting at their Instagram, JaeRim keeps commenting at SoEun's IG, JaeRim's sister also like a supporter of them too? Aaaa. I never ship anyone this hard, so I know I will be brokenhearted if these two are not real. Hope this is not merely to promote their drama, and I want to think they are dating on set for now and after this drama finished, they will start dating officially ??

And because I am so in the mood of loving loving this week, 1% of Anything added more cheesiness to me. The main leads' chemistry is so realll. Since I started watching this drama to add more honey and cheese in my life, I am loving this drama so much right now.

Nickhun went as far as bringing Victoria to meet his family, why would he do that if he wasn't going to date her? At least be professional and don't bring in the family. That's why I stopped watching We Got Married altogether, I feel like I was so cheated by their "reality" romance and all the emotional investment, I better off watching dramas instead.

it perplexed me, where does this come from?? then it happens,

I like Kwang Hee in it because of the food Sunhwa makes but then I watched the Taemin one, and it shocking,
I don't know Taemin personally but all the things displayed in WGM is not the Taemin I've seen,
Taemin is a manly guy, he like doing risky things and all of that kind of activity,
then yeah ... sometimes when I find the clips on youtube, I watched it as a drama, ofc there'll feeling involved but I don't take it seriously,

But yea..such romances are fun.. that are not too 'sweet'

Hey Beanies

So...I really need good drama and movie recommendations, Romantic Most IMP "Warm Heart..ed".

Since nothing is off topic and i need to rant
Been working on Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign as Extracurricular Activity ... So any idea or info you feel that you would like to know .. Any specific aspect you feel that should be of focus.
For a min i was considering Jealousy Incarnate Mammography clip but that would be the opposite of what we are aiming for, to motivate to screen not scare.

Been down for a few days, maybe it's the weather

- "Far Away Love" Skimmed through it... i notice c drama cram too many characters and love lines, i felt that was stealing time from the main couple namely "Park Hae Jin"
* The female lead, is clumpsy with no talent no skill & most IMP no backbone whatsoever which surprised me considering the family responsibility she had to take care of.
Development .. slower than a turtle, no offense to turtles. mine is quite fast :D the main love line really start at 30 ep as my memory serve me, also they kind of tied together from ep 18 or 22 can't remember.
the 1st female friend of the female lead is a bless
the 2nd female friend kind of acts as the sense of logic for the female lead
also it's kind of seem like that the group effort of her friends and their sum of characters is what really guide the female lead out of almost situations and problems she is faced with.
The male lead acting was what got me through and ALOT of Fast Forward
i was hoping to watch light romance with good acting.. the show didn't really dliver and i felt frustrated @ the end.

Jealousy Incarnate ...
Didn't watch last 4 eps, although i kind of skimmed through ep 17 but the main triangle turned off also i'm hoping that i will get back to watching eventually

MCDBC .. Left a large hole in my heart and that dramas i can watch
I think i'm starting too be really picky about dramas, esp after IJ and the honorable mention MCDBC

Is a well written story, good acting and most IMP a proper ending is too much to ask for ?!!!
Also plz advice dramas / movies who meet the above criteria.

Finally, have a nice day / night ☺

Good Morning, everyone! I think it's really super telling that the first thing I do in the morning now is stumble bleary eyed from my room to check dramabeans and a few other drama sites (and the news). Haha I would have missed so many of my 9am classes if dramas didn't keep getting me out of bed in the morning.

Misaeng: *takes a deep breath* ok. *takes another one*. I have about a half an hour of one episode left in this drama. OHmygoodness. It's not like I didn't spend the entirety of 14 in actual tears. I didn't know an office drama would be so entirely heartwrenching! No cancer, no serial killers, just... work. I can definitely see the similarities with Signal in the directing, they give off a similar tone. Super cool. And the music! I don't know who did the OST or what else they've done but I love the music. I'll just go cry some more now as I finish it.

The K2: I think that blanket kiss needs to be replayed on more time *goes back* Ok yup, still super cute.

The Greatest Love: Oh I'd forgotten how much I love this one. I started watching it with a few friends and just... his laugh cracks me up. He cracks me up, he's such a child. I don't know if my friends are so hot on it yet (they're new to kdramas) but they're dedicated enough to keep watching, soo... onwards!

Stranger Things: Halloween is on Monday! I'm not really a die-hard fan of the holiday and probably won't celebrate too much.... but my apartment decided that we needed to watch all the scary things this weekend and got me watching Stranger Things. And holy crap it is scary! At least at midnight and one in the morning it is. What's the monster thing? Was Will's body really just found? I thought the lights said he was alive. Please don't die, Barb, your friend neeeeds you! She will make a bad life decisions without you because her new boyfriend is so super lame and doesn't seem reliable.

Side note, Misaeng got me thinking: what dramas have actually made you cry? What's the saddest drama you've ever watched? Mine's probably Marriage Contract, I was constantly teared up towards the end of that one if I remember right. Happy Weekend!

Agreed on Misaeng. It didn't actually make me cry, but then again few movies/shows do. But I did find it so incredibly sad. Probably because it feels so real, there are so many people just living day to day, working to live, but not really doing much living outside of work.

Dramas that made me cry? The only one is probably Dream High, as weird as that may sound lol. [SPOILER!!!!!!] When Kim Soo Hyun's character first finds out about his hearing and cries and sits in the bar in front of the speakers, I BAWLED. Literally. For 20 freaking minutes. Not only does Kim Soo Hyun do crying/sadness better than any other K-actor I've seen, but the thought of not being able to sing was just so heartbreaking and scary for me that I couldn't help but feel the pain.

Stranger Things was the only American show that I watched this year, and I loved it! I was a fan of late 80s early 90s campy suspense/sci-fi shows such as Are You Afraid of the Dark so this was right up my ally. I find that the kid actors were my favorite in the show, and my favorite lines were from Dustin ^^ without spoiling anything, it gets darker but It doesn't go full on horror like AHS if that helps as it's more sci-fi, coz I can't even bring myself to watch that. Plus it's only 8 episodes so it's going to be a fast watch.

Funny anecdote, while I was watching this, I was also watching W. Not quite the same but I thought of W more of a sci-fi genre at the time and it was fresh and interesting. (boy I was so wrong LOL). One similar theme they had were about Parallel/Multiple Universe and the professor explains how to tap into that alternate universe which was, without spoilers, shown and answered at length by the show. Until I'm still waiting for W to explain to me how Kang-Chul was able to stay and travel between the 2 universe ?

re: W and Stranger things similarities. Haha that's cool, I didn't see that!

As for the show, I'm just hoping that the super sketchy monster thing is secretly helping the kids escape somehow. Or that there are two monsters and one is good. Because I don't know why, maybe I just don't want a sketchy murdering alien-monster on the loose. I agree I love the older setting, too. ^^

Totally had that light bulb moment when I was watching the episode on Stranger Things. "what dramas have actually made you cry?"

Basically anything and everything with moms and their children is what I'm finding tugs at my heartstrings. My mom is around but we live about 5 hours away from each other, but being a mom myself made me realize how special the bond is between mothers and their children. These are the ones I remember recently:

- Dear My Friends, that scene when Yeon-ha and her mom finally confronted each other about what happened in their past.
-IHYV. That chilling scene with mom, the serial killer and her phone call to Hye sung.
- not drama but reality show Youth Over Flowers Africa when it was revealed that Bo-gum lost his mom at a young age, and when they showed him reading Chilbong's phone call to his mom during the audition process for R88. I started to really feel motherly towards him after that!

Dramas that made me cry? Honestly, for all its problems, I've never cried so hard with any drama as I have for Moon Lovers. That's likely what keeps me going back. Just as I'm about to call it quits because the production problems are starting to completely outweigh some of the really excellent things about it, another tragic scene comes along and I'm blubbering like a baby. Lady Hae, Lady Oh, Eun/Soon Deok and even Chae Ryung! I have yet to cry over the main couple but I think I need to invest in a couple boxes of kleenex if what people are predicting comes to pass in the last few episodes.

I don't normally watch melos but

I'm Sorry I Love You made me cry.

Dream High - loss of hearing - made cry.

And I think that's about it. The fact that Moon Lovers can make me cry the way it does astonishes me.

just to give a few reasons why I am grumpy: I was supposed to get off at 4 today and go to my Uni for textile dep reunion, but at the last minute I had to do an unlisted tour in english, yell over three dozen teenagers and that made my cough come back with a vengeance and no point going to the reunion so late and coughing like a horse.

Hi, redfox!

This is the time of year when I traditionally feel like crawling under a rock to hibernate until the merry month of May. My former chocolate cravings seem to have disappeared, but I still have a yen for carbohydrates... so maybe some nice sourdough or whole-kernel rye bread with cheese or liberally slathered with butter would be a nice accompaniment to a warming stew. Watching Kdramas and Kfilms is my favorite non-caloric attitude adjuster. ;-)

I don't usually live watch two dramas simultaneously, but I did it to myself this time (MOONLIGHT and MOON LOVERS), and have been feeling fatigued and frazzled. As an antidote, I've been checking out drama specials on the KBS World channel on YouTube... A little over a week ago, I came across a very nice one with great music called PIANIST. The soundtrack put me in such a relaxed space... while the piano music itself was food for my soul.

Pianist (Drama Special / 2010.11.27)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3710zTO7f0

I never thought I'd watch a "reality" show, but I thoroughly enjoyed the premier episode of season 3 of THREE MEALS A DAY. I took a chance on it when I found it with subtitles and noted that Eric is in it. (OH HAE YOUNG AGAIN was the first production I'd seen him in.) It's like AMERICA'S TEST KITCHEN goes camping... with a big helping of Zen as the cast turns to to "chop wood, carry water." This is no GALLOPING GOURMET. It is low-key and great fun to watch, and educational as well. I learned a bunch of nifty kitchen tricks in addition to some useful tips about crabs that I'll never use because I don't eat crustaceans... however, I appreciated them for the sake of learning something new. The guys get along well, even sunbae Seo-Jin, who has apparently mellowed out since earlier seasons.

How I got hooked:
Upon arriving at the house on the island, someone noticed the holding tank with a single lonely abalone (good name for a rock band) gliding across the glass and asked what it was. Eric replied, "Michael."

Michael got a stay of execution and is now apparently their gastropod mascot...

Seriously, though, I felt totally relaxed and mellowed out by the end of the episode. If future episodes are as mesmerizing as this one, I'll be tuning in for the rest of the season -- and checking out earlier installments if they're available with subtitles.

Hope this helps. ;-)

Hi Everyone! .......  I hope you are all doing well today!

Watched this week:

Jealousy Incarnate - Oh wow, what both guys did to get Pyo Na-ri to the studio on time!

On The Way To The Airport - Aha! I knew it! There was a recording on that phone! ...... As always, I can't wait for this weekend's recap discussions!

Moon Lovers - Ok, after 10 episodes, I'm finally getting into it! ....... The 4th Prince's queen mom, what is up with her and why does she get away with things???

The Man Living In Our House - So I checked this out to see how this drama would start.  It wasn't that bad!  Some genuinely funny moments and a little mystery thrown in, courtesy of stepdad ...... which, by the way, let's see how long the whole "stepdad" thing lasts. ...... Also, I'm getting a Song Jae-rim vibe from the male lead. No idea why that is.

That's all for now. ....... Everyone take care and have a great Friday!

@korfan and @Eule,

I enjoyed the first two episodes of THE MAN LIVING IN OUR HOUSE, too. It feels like a cross between VINEYARD MAN and FLOWER BOY RAMEN SHOP, with twists. Nan-Gil reminds me of the down-to-earth farmer Taek-Ki and honorable ramen chef Gang-Hyuk.

Glad to know I've got company in the Back & Shoulder Appreciation Society. ;-)

Went ga-ga over Nan-Gil's ringtone, and found a version with lyrics, which are beautiful:

Ahn Chi-Hwan: "If I Were"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AF4Z9imYCX4

The drama's title reminds me very much of this piece that originally appeared on the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young LP "Deja Vu" (1974). The imagery of flaming sunshine illuminating the windows and creating fiery gems dovetails with the lyrics in "If I Were":

"Our House" - Crosby Stills and Nash - Lyrics (HD)

Loving SKL, 1% of something.
I LOVE these dramas so much it hurts.
NJH is love, and the female lead in 1% is also love (I need to learn her name).

Also watching JI, K2, ML and enjoying them very much.

BTOB comeback Nov 7. I'm way more excited about than I should given that I just discovered them. But I very excited.

Looking forward to Legend of Blue Sea, Goblin and Hwarang.

Happy Friday beanies!

I tried live-watching a little while ago and waiting is quite the torture(not that i didnt know already). By the end, I found myself only really keeping up with one show lol.

Moonlight - I liked it. I mean I think I did but I can't find the will to continue watching. I live-watched it because I'm not very fond of sageuks but I'm still 10 eps behind haha. I will definitely(maybe?) watch it someday. For the cast, at least.

Fantastic - I only barely managed to keep up with this one. I like it but it feels meh to me. I think it got a lot of things right but lacked the punch(?). I loved the friendships between the gals+pilho, the bromance between the love rivals, the romances, and pretty much everything. And Haesung is probably the best male lead I've seen in dramaland. I don't think I've seen better characters actually(aside from the in-laws). But it failed to connect with me. I guess the show couldnt make me care that much?

Wanted - I didn't live-watch this but I had the same problem as I had Fantastic. I cared less for this one. I only liked the cops(mostly Ji Hyun-woo for obviously not shallow reasons lol). I couldn't care less about the kidnapping or the show and the drama was about that. So I dropped it halfway through.

Jealousy Incarnate - JI was the one drama that managed to keep me interested. It was flawed but I love it. I had some problems with the pacing but I dont really mind. Im disappointed with how the lack of screentime for the supporting chars. But I freaking love the show. I love it and how petty the chars are. This show is crazy but I love its brand of crazy. It's cracky and hilarious. I cant believe how committed the actors are and I applaud them.

The news of Gary leaving RM broke my heart. OT7 no more, eh? I dont want RM to end but a lot of viewers have gotten tired of it. Not everyone is here for the cast. And admittedly, there isn't anything new lately. I dont think sbs will end it yet or change the cast because of the i-fans. But I guess it's time or the time is near to say goodbye. Still, 7012♡

Re: Jealously Incarnate: YES. This drama is the absolute best. I'm just here for the ride, so I have no ships but all, like ALL, of them amuse me. It's like watching Psychology 101, just less clinical and more "real" if crazy people are your thing. What am I talking about? People are all crazy.

King of Mask Singer last week was full of surprise. After Lee Sun-bin, it's our cute and lovely Nurse Oh's time to shine. Park Jin-joo~~!!! This girl slayed. Just like what the panel said, she totally should become a singer or musical actor. She is that good.

Meanwhile in the dramaland, I just send off Fantastic's character with a big smile. I know they'll live a good life and always support each other no matter what happened. Still enjoying Jealousy Incarnate and all its messy relationships, and hope fervently that it wouldn't lose its steam in the last 4 eps.

its mind blowing because the show put the last two performance is between actress, not professional singer, but their performance was as energetic and powerful as professional singer..

Park JinJoo is definitely amazeballs with her version of Dae Jang Geum Onara...they have her repeat without music at that, because it sound like in the CD, LOL.

she sing it again when she reveal herself, i was amaze how a small frame like her can produce that sound without making much effort.

Happy Friday!

I just realized that one thing I really love about kdramas is the abundance of outdoor scenes. Scenes in streets, in alleys, in parks, on bridges, on beaches, on rooftops, of the cityscape, etc.

In contrast, I feel like American dramas tend to be filmed mostly indoors, and even the small amount of outdoor scenes tend to feel like they are filmed on a set, with bland, featureless buildings and such.

I think that kdrama's abundant use of outdoor scenes filmed in real locations (not sets) adds so much beauty, realism, immersiveness, and grittiness to the shows. Really makes them enjoyable to watch.

I had the same thought while watching Misaeng this week ( its' my 1st watch).

99% of the scenes happen in the office, but time from time our heroes meet in their neighborhood, like one scene happened at a bus stop after work.
I don't know why but i found it very comforting to see them take the bus like normal people do. It increased ten times the closeness i feel for those characters, as if to watch them do something i can share with them created a new level of intimacy, and i loved the beauty of this feeling.

I do get why it's your favourite k-drama. I really do.

I'm loving every part of it and i have really a hard time to restrain myself and not binge watch it.

Everything about Misaeng gets me in awe but Lee Sung Min is REALLY really on another level.

I put Heartless City on hold and don't know how i will come back to it after this masterpiece that is Misaeng.

That is actually one of the reasons why I get bored of American shows. They are indoors and it seems like they are shooting on a set which I actually don't like. However, shooting on real locations can be more tough. I even don't like when a drama shows a set as a house because it is somewhat clear that it is not. I love outdoor and actual locations. You get tired of watching the same place time and again. Yo should make your characters move in different locations.

The landscapes in THE KING'S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK-HYANG were gorgeous... and the same goes for GU AM HEO JOON, IIRC. MAN OF THE VINEYARD is set in the boondocks, and I loved seeing all that greenery instead of the usual concrete and asphalt.

Jealousy Incarnate: Omo Omo. I love this show to bits. And that super casual matter of fact proposal was so sincere and lovely. The simplicity of it just really touched me in a way I can't really articulate.

Speaking of which, dancing with ramyeon in K2, rescued chaebols missing out on ramyeon in Louis and now proposals over ramyeon in Jealousy Incarnate. Is ramyeon the new power sponsor of dramas? If so Subway should complain, it's never at the centre of poignant scenes.

You know what's sad? It's actually the pass me the radish kimchi line that really gets me. It's just such a random mundane detail to bring up again at the height of emotions, like everything's going to be okay, just pass the kimchi.

Everyone was basking in Post JI happiness in the Moon Lovers chat groups as well! For the sake of my sleep and exams I'm going to try and limit myself from addictive Dramabean chat groups for the next week. But do you mind posting the link? I'm always up to read some more Hwa shin swooning.

Ugh, I know. Especially after he said how he'd never just propose over ramen. Then he does exactly that & just asks her to pass the kimchi. It's so simple & sweet.

Haha, totally understand. The reason I love having the chat for JI is because recaps come up a bit later and, for some reason, I feel compelled to share my love for this show with others almost immediately after airs. It's not often this happens for me, lol.

We're all in a Whatsapp group (something I'm new to, tbh). If you want to join, you can shoot me an email with your number at [email protected] and I can get Ami, the admin, to add you. This goes for any other JI fans :)

Managed to download all available episodes of Shopping King Louie, Fantastic, Jeloausy Incarnate and On the way to the airport, but still not watching any of it lol. I'll just see whether it ends good and watch it later.

Still stuck with Two Weeks, now on to episode 7. But the house finally got access to netflix and oh boy how it such a distraction! If not for the horror movie we watch together, i'll binge-watching the series and forget about kdrama at all. Already finished Daredevil and started Master of None. But surprisingly, there are some korean movie in the catalogue, it has Tazza, Muse (this makes me happy lol) and some other movies as well.

Can't watch too much since it is final week and there are exam & report to work on. Hope you all have a great week everyone!

Hi beanies!

Was depressed and bored this week. Haven't done much homework but been sleeping instead. I got some writing and Instagram posting done though. Feel free to suggest distractions. Music, movies, TV are all appreciated.

On a more positive note, passed 2 out of 3 midterms and downloaded a bunch of apps. How did I only just fall in love with manhwa? Third times the charm I guess.

My tablet is at 3% and I woke up 5 hours ago at 2 am. I should go. I'll post my TV later.

See you soon. Happy Friday!

I'm depressed and sad all week too, only because my favorite drama had ended last week and I can't believe I have nothing to watch this week.

On the topic of manhwa, I rarely read manhwa but I love manga, download MangaRock, they have tons of manga/manhwa you could read from on your phone.

Since you're a kpop fan, I'm suggesting watching watch idols variety shows or music shows. I'm leaning toward variety shows because a good laugh can go a long way to cheer you up.

I'm sorry you've been feeling out of sorts too. Which drama were you watching? I'm looking forward to "This week, My wife is having an affair" tonight. Maybe that will help ?

I downloaded a few manga apps too. My tablet is charging now so I can't see which ones. But I'll make sure MangaRock is on there. I have a few mangas that I put on hold at the beginning of the semester.

Speaking of kpop, I finally heard EXO's third album this morning. I bought the cd back in June but couldn't find a player. And I've been lazying around with listening to it on YouTube *too big a commitment*. Anyway, I listened to it because I finally downloaded Spotify and then continued on a downloading spree.

I love it sooooo much. Will probably listen again while doing homework.

And I'm still working on Got7 tv before Blue Sea starts. I'll watch some today.

Ekkkk, I'm excited I have a list of things to watch!

P.S. I have no more storage room on my phone. Just got a notification that my 361 apps are safe. When did I download all that? ?

Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, which ended last week and took my heart away with it, lol. I can't seem to get out of the withdrawal so I couldn't start any new drama.

The thing with kpop song is, I tend to only like 1 song from the entire album, so I never try to buy their CDs, also because it's not an investment I'd like to make, I do however, consider buying Moonlight's OST CDs just to support them, lol. I love every song they have and going to break my wallet for them.

What? 361 apps??? What do you do with 361 apps? Lol. You need to clear the clutter.

Confession time

As a loyal Janeite, I am ashamed to acknowledge the fact that I have never seen North & South.

So I started it just now off of your recommendation. I've known about it forever *like more than half of my life* but never had the push. Not even when my crush's mom said it was one of her favorite movies. So I started it without rereading the synopsis.

Omo, I was all for Lennox/Margaret. Paused it to tell my nephew "if this isn't our ship, I might died."
And them he proposed! And I freaked out! And she turned him down. Which I understood.

Paused it to care for my nephew and realized that he proposed within 8 minutes of it starting. Weird. It felt like I had just started but also that I knew them and been watching for a while.

Anyway, I'm wondering about the whole 2 month thing from the get-go. I get to the renting scene and my nephew starts fussing. "I like her!" I say as I soothe him. Then we're looking for Mr. Thornton. SHE goes search for for him.

And he enters the scene through the feathers, dust, fake snow. Whatever!

I have no loyalty! I jumped ship immediately!

Then he started punching someone and I paused it because I have a no violence rule for my 6 month old nephew. Plus, he was getting hungry and tired so I had to focus on him.

It's still paused and I'm freaking out.

Thank you! If why this was the time I listened but I will definitely be in the know now.

P.S. for anyone who is worried I abandoned my nephew for OT, my eonnie is feeding/putting him to sleep ?

Hehe, I'm glad you're enjoying it! And I totally understand about jumping ship, I was smitten with Armitage's Thornton almost from the minute he appeared, he was yummy throughout! I really liked his chemistry with Daniela Denby-Ashe, who played Margaret. The actor playing Lennox was OK, but had that sort of face I would love to kick to Timbuctoo (ie he was annoying) and was kinda shady so I never liked his character. I hope you like the rest of the series, it's only four episodes and very easy to finish in one stretch.

This is one of my Favorite shows of all time! So so so well done. There are a few more of this author's works made into nice movies (she was a contemporary of Jane Austin), but this is the best.

The "snow" scene is one of my favorites. I loved her line, "I've seen Hell, and it's snow white." It has some gritty moments, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with the ending. Beautifully done.

Also I number them every morning in the order I want or need to watch during the day. Sometimes I break it, kekeke.

Hi Purple Owl, I do keep track of kdramas, k-variety and k-entertainment and jdramas that I watch, not always weekly. Think I'll keep track episode by episode this week and post what I watch during the week. Society Game - a competitive reality show started this week. It is loosely along the games of Genius (I watched all 4 seasons and really liked it) but this doesn't hve the celeb element as much. It's a braun and brain combo of survival games, not sure I'm as into it as Genius. Also Don Hyung is back after a haitus for his health that took him off several shows. He is on Weekly Idol so far.
I see you're watching Full House - any plans on watching Full House Take 2? I recommended it to a friend and she liked it! Look for my list next week and we'll compare episode notes :)

Funny Story

So I'm doing a sleep study this weekend. Gonna see if my sleep pattern has anything to with my anxiety dreams, nightmares, and continuous waking.

I knew the guy was coming between 11:00 - 15:00. And I woke up at 12:00 to eat (a food that isn't in my house at the moment)

Hanging with my nephew in my zebra footie pyjamas. Half remembering the visit time. My nephew goes down for a nap and I start cleaning. The guy calls to be let in to my apartment building. I let him in and then look down atto clothes. Yikes!

It's laundry day so I ran to get a dress. Doorbell rings as I put it on. "Guess u won't be wearing a slip". I walk to get it but then remember my Black American hair is sticking straight up because I didn't put a do rag on to protect my twists.

I legit run to my room to find a beanie because a fedora in the house would be strange. I found the beanie and a slip came with it. Put them both on quickly.

"Sorry for the wait."
"Purple?"
"Yup. That's the sleep study?"
"Yeah. Can I come in to show you how it works?"
"Of course. Excuse the mess. I was feeding my nephew." *thinks* thank goodness I put on that slip. My dress would have been straight see through.

The man was very nice and we had a good banter.

When did I become a heroine, running around to be decent? ???

Hi Beanies! Happy Friday ? And greetings from my new time zone. I was wondering why OT was so early... then I realized! Lol.

Too busy settling in and cleaning to watch anything... and still withdrawing from Moonlight....

I did catch The Magician (K movie) on the plane and wasn't too impressed unfortunately. Any other works of YSH to recommend? Because I have heard good things about him but wasn't wowed by him in this movie.

And did you know they had kdramas on the inflight entertainment?? Sadly it was something I had already seen- DOTS and Oh my Venus. But I was super excited (clearly I don't fly much) and I think it's good they had kdramas in the first place!

Super excited for quite a few dramas coming up- Tomorrow with you, Rebel Hong Gil Dong, Doo Yong's drama (please say yes!) as well as the upcoming Cdrama Shuttle Love Millennium 2 (相爱穿梭千年2) starting next week!

Finally a quick update on my Boy- he now can say so many many things! But the funniest is that he can't say "c" or "k" sounds yet, so he can't say "uncle"- he replaces it with "Auntie"; or "come"- it comes out sounding as "dum(b)" so when he calls my brother Bryan, he says- "Auntie Bryan, dumb!" Hahahaha. And he is so enthusiastically calling him that all the time. Cracks me up. Makes up for all the times my brother teased me when we were growing up ?

Hope everyone has a good week ahead!

No, don't quit your job if you don't want to.

As a child of a mother, I can very certainly tell you that if my mother were to give up her life just for me, I would suffer from the guilt. As a mother you could say that you were doing it for my good, but life sometimes doesn't work that way. It can be suffocating and I don't want to lose my mom like that. Don't ever give up on your life just for your kid.

I truly believe that you will be able to handle both your job and being there for your kid, just like you are doing right now and your kid is already showing you result of the wonders you are doing for him right now.

If you're there for your kid when he needs you, then continue. Yes, sometimes your kid will take priority and sometimes your job will have to take priority. But you still can do both if there's a reasonable balance. It's only a problem if your work constantly takes priority over your kid.

Thanks @peeps! <3

what you said is basically how I feel- I actually posted a semi-rant on it below but for some reason its being moderated... not sure exactly why.

I'm tired of this misconception that motherhood and careers cannot be nicely balanced without sacrificing one entirely for the other. And I'm tired of older Male Chauvinistic Pigs as elders who think they know better but are just being selfish and pig headed.

Motherhood is just one part of who I am, it doesnt define me and I want to also work as it makes me feel fulfilled.
I am going to continue to work and do my best for my kid, and hope that it all works out and my kids thinks the same way as you do next time :)

Agree with Peeps. Some moms (and dads) are fine staying home -- some moms get bored and go crazy, and that isn't good for anybody, believe me.

Also, LOL, poor Auntie Bryan.

Thanks
@blnmom, @junny and @okiejune!

I'm definitely going on with the job for all the reasons you all have said too! Thank you for the support ❤️

0

Agree with what Peeps said. From your blog posts, I can tell you're being the best mom you can to your boy, and I'm sure he is responding well because of your dedication to his well-being. That surely won't change regardless of whether you have a job. Other people have no right to tell you what to do with your life, especially if they haven't been as involved in the raising of your child as you have.

Also, practically/financially speaking, having a dual income (even if you work part-time) is always easier on the family than single income. I'm glad you're going to continue working and wish you and your boy all the best :)

Hi Michykdrama - what everyone else said, PLUS, as a woman/mom, I think it's much better to have your own source of income, no matter what. If you're not able to support yourself to some measure, you will have no choice but to do what the older MSPs tell you to. I made this choice many years ago, and to this day think it is the right decision.

YSH was really good in Remember - War of the Son but this one was a very heavy drama. Prepare boxes of tissues. He was second lead in I Missing You but this one also melodrama, lead role in Operation Proposal, supporting cast in Arang & The Magistrate, and among his project that I love the most was Flames of Desire but in this one, Shin Eun Kyung stole the show. YSH drama's choices mostly on heavier roles (at least on what I have watched him).

Gah, I'm still deep in Moonlight pit, unable to watch any drama at the moment and missing all my Moonlighters (where y'all at?). I'm easing the pain by writing Moonlight fanfic, which I hopefully can get up the first chapter soon-ish, I should be writing, but here I am getting distracted, lol.

Oh, and by Doo-yong, you meant Doo-joon right? Lol. I discovered him through Splash Splash Love, and I loved him so much I tried to watch Let's Eat 2 for him, except, I didn't like it that much. I hope he gets to do sageuk, even though I'm not a fan of sageuk, I thought he did great in that drama, or maybe rom-com is his forte, or maybe it was his magic with Kim Seul-gi.

I love Yoo Seung-ho on his own, but I don't think I ever loved any drama he was in, I think I might have liked him more when he was only the child counterpart in dramas.

So hard to locate all Moonlighters except when they go back to the last recap thread, lol.

It's always heartwarming to hear updates on your boy :)

I love that flights have Asian shows and movies. I fly long distance every year or so to visit family, and somehow I always end up watching Asian movies over Western blockbusters. The struggle to pretend something flew in my eyes when I'm watching emotional scenes, lol.

Listening to this lovely Moonlight playlist as I type. Yep, the withdrawal is strong! Still can't find it streaming on Spotify or Google Play, so youtube will do. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJ7BioYhVqnRmB3b1R_Y6-YOqMBSMzYqe

Yes kids are amazing! It was funny because I was so worried and the speech therapist was so funny- she said- don't worry he will be able to speak- he won't sound like this when he is 20! Lol. And she was right!

My kid is a bit unusual for a autistic kid because he also has childhood apraxia of speech which is a problem with his brain being able to control the muscles that are used to talk. So his talking is extra slow because he got a double whammy. But he is getting there! ?

@Michykdrama,

Finally a quick update on my Boy- he now can say so many many things! But the funniest is that he can’t say “c” or “k” sounds yet, so he can’t say “uncle”- he replaces it with “Auntie”; or “come”- it comes out sounding as “dum(b)” so when he calls my brother Bryan, he says- “Auntie Bryan, dumb!” Hahahaha. And he is so enthusiastically calling him that all the time. Cracks me up. Makes up for all the times my brother teased me when we were growing up

"Out of the mouths of babes..." LOL!

Glad to hear that your little one is forging ahead with speaking. I think it's cool that he substitutes "auntie" for "uncle" -- it shows he understands the degree of relationship. It's a very clever work-around.

If you were to drop the hard C / K sound, would "unnel" maybe provide a stepping stone to "uncle"?

Is there some kind of hierarchy in developing the ability to vocalize phonemes, with certain sounds requiring trickier muscle and breath coordination, thus taking longer to master?

I used to know an audiologist who did remedial work using various methods, including those developed by otolaryngologist Alfred A. Tomatis. One of my kin seems to have some kind of auditory processing time-delay, which can make conversation frustrating at times.

Another factor that can affect speech is hearing difficulties. It stands to reason that you cannot replicate a phoneme you cannot hear...

I did catch The Magician (K movie) on the plane and wasn’t too impressed unfortunately.

I watched it in mid-August while taking a break from HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE -- which was sandwiched in between Jdorama LOVE REVOLUTION and DISCOVERY OF ROMANCE.

KissAsian's English subtitles weren't that great, IIRC. It wasn't clear to me why the fighting broke out towards the end. The magician's dream was to live in a place of peace where the blue-eyed people were. His right eye was blue, so I think he was an outcast because of his non-matching eye color.

IMHO, the best parts of the film were the ones in which Hwan-Hee performed his sleight of hand. YSH looked like he was having a blast during his prestidigitation. Park Chul-Min turned in another of his nuanced comic turns. He never fails to deliver. The final showdown in the theater found Hwan Hee squaring off against multiple assailants among the diaphanous red hangings on stage -- which reminded me of DUELIST with the swirling robes among the clotheslines in the dye yard (and similar scenes in dramas CHUNO and BICHEONMU).

I felt better after reading the HanCinema review, which noted plot holes. I agree with the reviewer that the look and feel of the film is gorgeous. But it didn't grab me by the throat the way THE KING AND THE CLOWN did.

For me, it was a worthwhile flick for the YSH eyecandy. He really is cute. It was nice to see a reminder of the God of Heaven (ARANG). I should rewatch, preferably with better subtitles.

Hi pakalanapikake!! Haven't talked to you in a while! *waves!!* Hope you have been well.

You are right about the different sounds having a hierarchy or order at which kids can say them. C/k is later for sure. I'm just enjoying this moment and keeping videographical evidence ?

Your review of The Magician is much better than mine would ever be! I too didn't really understand fully why the fight broke out or who exactly they were fighting and why. And the differing eye colour didn't really make much sense plotwise but I just went with it being a feature that made him stand out and an outcast as well.

Last week OT someone asked about the meaning behind our usernames and I immediately thought of you! ?

Aloha, Michykdrama!

I've been overloaded while live-watching MOON LOVERS and MOONLIGHT... By the time I've watched raw and multiple subtitled episodes and finally read the recap, the sheer volume of comments was usually too daunting to read in its entirety, let alone put my own two cents' worth in. Skipped Open Thread for weeks until MOONLIGHT ended. I missed hanging out with you and the rest of the Beanies... but the sleep deprivation really was getting to be too much. ;-)

Hope you're settling in well in your new home, and that your son is enjoying exploring. ;-)

Glad my impressions of THE MAGICIAN were of interest. Not only do I keep track of which dramas and films I watch, I also make notes on cast (which helps me recognize actors, especially in sageuks), plot, performances I especially liked, sets/locations, cinematography, etc, etc. If I like the music, I track it down on YouTube and save the pointers. I sometimes transcribe dialogue and song lyrics, too, if they're especially memorable -- or they help me figure out what's happening on screen. I often include comparisons with other shows/films with similar or contrasting plots, tropes, etc. Characters who drive me nuts, and reasons for abandoning a show (very rare for me) also get noted. Dang, I sound really OCD. I didn't realize I was channeling drama critic Vincent Canby of the New York Times. Sheesh.

Speaking of music: I just rewatched SOUL MATE this weekend, and the OST and BGM in it are terrific. Pure auditory bliss. I'd first watched it right before MOON LOVERS debuted... and I think that may well have been a major reason why the OST rubbed me the wrong way. SOUL MATE did a great job matching song lyrics to the action onscreen... which made MOON LOVERS musical missteps sound that much worse in comparison. SOUL MATE set the standard for drama music that COFFEE PRINCE continued in 2007. The drama itself is one of the best character-driven romances I've seen, and deals with the role of fate in relationships. (As does ALONE IN LOVE, also from 2006.) Shin Dong-Wook is charming as all get out.

I'll sign off for now.

I watched both dramas, and I read both novels (translation). I don't know the difference about the content because the translated version is not finished yet, but I can give my two cents about the 'feel' (is this the right word? My English is soooo bad. Sorry!).

For me, the 'feel' for snail is nearly the same with the novel, but some scenes are changed, maybe because the writer is different. Wang Kai is good with stone face, and I feel he is a perfect Ji bai. Wang Ziwen is good for Xuxu portrayal but I think she should smile more. Xuxu in the novel is not that timid, and she actually communicate brightly with her team members.

Meanwhile memory lost 'feel' is totally opposite the novel - the drama is too bright! the female lead is not that happy go lucky in the novel. Yang Rong should be a bit serious, less talkative and not smile that often. In the novel, the female lead likes to smoke, so in my head she is a serious-no-bullshit character.

Both stories were written by Ding Mo, and I like the writing style. I won't say either drama is better than the other yet, but I sure will follow both till the end.. hehe.

Legend of Chusen actually more of a xian xia drama, more fantasy than wu xia. Such drama tends to not have a happy ending. A 17- or 18- episode sequel will air pretty much immediately after this one concludes. Another sequel is slated for 2017.

Warning: LOC is not a fast-moving drama. I quit after ep 30.

0

I learned something new re the xian xia , thank you. Immortal Hero vs Martial Hero.

Where are you all watching Legend of Chusen? It stopped being subbed at Viki after episode 28. It was on a fan channel there and Viki was getting sued or something for licensing so the subbers couldn't upload any more episodes. I'm pretty sure Tamra The Island is the perfect cure to Moonlight Drawn By Clouds/Kim Yoo-jung withdrawal. It is for me, at least. My mind is still blown that it's her in both. I feel old! But she's so perfect. I loved her as a child character and I love her extra now!

I wonder if there are other actors/actresses I've seen before and totally didn't recognize. I didn't register that I'd already seen the girl in W waaay before in Spring Waltz until I saw her name. Here are my notes on this week:

Although Fantastic utilized the over-used "is the hero/heroine dead or alive" trope at the end, I still think it was a pretty great show, with lots of girl support and bromance as well as a great central relationship. Since the second male lead died near the end, I doubled that the female lead would.

As far as K2, I am still enjoying the show itself but rolling my eyes over the fan shipping wars, which remind me of Glamorous Temptation.

I'm all for complicated villains that elicit our sympathy in some ways (if only W-dad had learned how to write like that, ha!).

But just because one likes an actor or actress and thinks they are doing a good job with their role, and that they may have chemistry with the male or female lead, does not mean that within the context of a K-Drama all their past misdeeds will be magically wiped away and they will be the romance end game. I don't think it ever works that way.

K2 to me still seems like a mashup of Nice Guy and Yong Pal with characters from House of Cards thrown in.

And I liked the music...at first. But come on, switch out the fight scene music. It's getting pretentious.

1% of Anything - I think this will be better than the original because the first version was kind of long and meandering. The lead couple sure has chemistry - you can really see the hormones on overdrive between them.

Still enjoying Jealousy Incarnate, Woman with a Suitcase, adorable Shopping King Louie, and Laurel Tree Tailors

Over in C-Drama land, how fantastic that two more adaptations of Ding Mo novels are airing after the success of Love Me if You Dare. When a Snail Falls in Love is already being subbed on Viki; I'm hoping that they follow soon with Memory Lost which looks really interesting.

I don't know if there is actually a fanwar on K2, I really do. Although I skipped scenes between JH-Anna the most, and loving the chemistry between JH- YJ, but I think most of us agree that the latter have great chemistry but not in a romantic way. Most probably want to see more interactions between JH-YJ but not on romance. Me myself already accepted that JH-Anna are the end game but since the romance between these two was not what I wanted to watch from the beginning, I just skipped their scenes.

I also don't think the fanwar in GT was that big, but the most reason was because the real lack of chemistry between the main leads which caused the viewers felt distant with the main leads' romance and end up shipping the female lead with the Prime Minister because of the great chemistry they had.

Was sad to see dramas end this week..but there are more coming!!

Currently watching: Jealousy Incarnate, 1% of Anything, On the Way to the Airport, Scarlet Heart, The Man Living in Our House, and excited to start This Week, My Wife will have an Affair!

Honestly enjoying all of them, but I have to say Jealousy Incarnate and 1% of Anything are my favorite ones right now. Still hooked on Scarlet Heart Ryeo Moon Lovers...have a ton of complaints but still enjoy it so that's all that matters to me. Airport is a weird one for me...sometimes I enjoy watching it and other not so much..I have to be in the right mood for this one. And of what I have seen of My Wife wil have and Affair, well I think I;m gna really like this one. I LOVE SJH, can't get enough of her.....and now off to watch ep 1!

Came to see if anyone here was still watching Jelousy Incarnate. I see some are. Though I like the main couple I'm sick of all the extra people so it's back to skimming the recaps for me.

Drinking Solo ended and I was glad to see 2 couples I'd been rooting for get together and have a decent amount of screen time. Not so happy another couple got too much alone time. The last shots of the main cast drinking by themselves didn't make for a great ending for me. I'd rather they introduced a new set of solo drinkers or just left us with the main couple being cute together not with shots emphasizing how different and incompatible they are.

Hope Shopping King Louis gives us more cuteness next episode. Even though it wasn't pretty I like how the writer literally dealt 'sh*t' to Ma-ri. Looking forward to more of that with an extra special dose for her father in the upcoming episodes.

1% of Anything is my crack!

Gawwd....this drama is making me smile like an idiot whenever I recall the cute and sweet scenes in my head. Definitely not a drama you'd want to watch on your commute or in a public place. It's hilarious, with many laugh out loud moments and it's incredibly sweet!

The recaps are out but this week's episodes are da bomb! Ha Suk Jin and Jeon So Min have so much chemistry that you'd think they were really in love.

Dada is one of the best female characters I've ever seen in a rom com. She's so cute and lovable. Jae In is also unlike the usual chaebol jerk. I thought Ha Suk Jin did a great job as JJS in Drinking Solo but he was even more fantastic as Jae In in 1%. He's really knocking it out of the park playing the man who's falling hard in love.

The short episodes just made me crave more for the drama.

useobwayo----- that line broke me, that sudden aegyo comes from nowhere and Dada is the real player,
it kinda new to have drama when the heroine is the one the one that has the upper hand , she is the boss,
I love that he listen to her and she said her opinion about him,
I also like how the mum's story revealed and the parents are come into the picture now..

it's lucky that I watch this on laptop/web
if this aired on tv and I can't pause it, I probably gonna hold a pillow to hide my face, I'll miss lot of scenes and rewatch it online, it's overly cute.
I've watched the original but this one seems better, they knew what to insert or not from the original , hope it stayed that way,

ps: the ex-fiance voice sounds weird, it's like the voice after crying

This show give me so many butterflies!

These two also addicted on the same thing - kissing LOL. I love their talk on whether to sleep together or not, because Dada looks like she was tempted with it but tried to hold herself much possible. Jae In was frustrated LOL. I am basically loving every moments of them. Hope more cheezy2 and less conflict.

I AM LOVING THIS DRAMA SO MUCH. MORE THAN I EXPECTED TO.

I agree! I was looking forward to this remake but it is much better than I foresaw! The shorter episodes are both disappointing (ya want more) and happyfying (the pace is great and it's good to want more!).

Dada IS so awesome. I commented on one of the recaps that I love how she's cool, calm, and confident, never overly sensitive or dramatic in response to Jae In.

As far as female leads go, she's a dramaland dreamboat!

So I'm just going to put it out here because I know many Beanies are female-

It's really tough being female in this day and age. Somehow someone always ends up believing that the woman should give up something when they have kids.

(Rant ahead, I'm sorry I needed to vent)

I am saying this because me and the Husband got emailed (!) this medical journal article (autistic kids who spend more time with their parents benefit and improve the most) by a older family member (male), who decided to use it to not-so-subtly suggest that I Quit My Job completely to care for my Boy since I was "female and I was only working part time and would never end up a full specialist anyway, so it made the most logical sense". ?

I'm not a saint. There are days I wish I didn't quit my medical training and fully specialize (I had 1.5 years left, and already passed all my exams) to focus on my Boy. Because my self worth isn't just being a mother, it's also linked to what I was doing before I got pregnant. Motherhood empowered me, but it doesn't define me.

This isn't to say that a mother shouldn't quit her job for her child, she can! But it should be Her Choice. Not something she feels "obliged" to do, or worse still emotionally blackmailed into doing. And that is what this is- emotional blackmail. Females should be allowed to work if they want, be a stay at home mom if they want, not marry, not have kids... essentially do whatever We Want to Do! And Without Judgement.

And why do people automatically assume great mothers are lousy at their careers, or successful career women are bad mothers? Can't we have both, or at least, even if we aren't perfect at both, be satisfied with a nice balance between the two? I'd like to think I'm a decent mom, and decent at my career too.

Anyway, thank you for letting me rant dear Beanies. I feel better now.

And to the ladies out there- don't settle, live life on your terms, do what you want because you want to, and believe you can be a great mom/wife/daughter, and hold a great job all at the same time. There are days when I feel like a complete failure, but there are also days where I feel like I'm at the top of the world and can accomplish anything.

And do want I did, and tell anyone who tries to convince you otherwise to f-off. But politely of course. ?

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

Screw them, they're not living their lives for you and vice verse, sure they're entitled to their opinions but they can't expect you to do something that haven't experience on their own. Why would woman be the one expected to let go of her career? There are a lot of career women out there who do mighty good job in their profession.

Granted, you're a mother and they might expect more from you, but I agree it should be your choice and on your own accord. Imagine if you do it out of pressure from someone else's talk and drop your work, only to find resentment years later for being talked into doing something you weren't willing to. Be strong, a woman is weak but a mother is strong.

*hugs*

Working mom is a tough job, so hang in there!

I (luckily) have never heard that "if a woman is good at her job, she can't be a good mother" or vice versa and I have been working a long long time. The two are not mutually exclusive, and wouldn't that imply the same is true for men?

If you are successful in one part of your life, that generally will carry over into another. You MUST be someone who is organized, and who can prioritize, and who can say,"No," when necessary.

No, I cannot fly to anywhere at the drop of a hat because I want to spend that time with my child. While I am here on the job, I promise you will get all of my attention, and all of my expertise and I will never be surfing the internet.

No, I cannot make cupcakes once a month for all the bake sales, or sew my child's halloween costume, or serve only organic, home-cooked meals for my child, because I have a job that takes time away. While I am here with my child, I will promise he/she will get all of my attention, will be fed nutritious food (sometimes from a restaurant) all of my love, and all of the confidence I have because of my career, and I will never be ignoring him/her.

You don't have to do everything as long as what you do is quality, right? And those that tell you otherwise are judgmental and need to open their eyes to the fact there is more than one way to raise a child.

Ive never seen more judgmental people than after I became a mom, but it's also taught me to try my best to be less judging of other because like you said, there are many ways to skin a cat.

All the best to you too! ❤️

Hello Beanies, it's my first open thread post and I'm a little nervous but excited!

Here's what I'm currently watching:

- Scarlet Heart Ryeo : (The editing and the directing may be a mess but I think what keeps me coming back to the show are all of the emotions the characters bring to the table. Also, Lee Jun-ki! He's incredibly attractive and one super talented actor. I'm really hoping for a happy ending for the So-Soo couple in the 21st century at this point)

- Jealousy Incarnate : (Pyo Na Ri has finally made a choice but I'm curious to know now what the show is going to do for the next 4 episodes. I thought for sure Na Ri's decision would be revealed the last episode. Also, the 3 teens on the show have really been pushed aside lately. Is the teen love triangle story over now or what?)

- Shopping King Louie: (Louie and Bok Shil are the cutest couple I've ever seen in dramaland so far! I squee and awww almost every time they're together. It's breaking my heart to see them separated right now and I'm glad they wont' be apart for too long. *SPOILER ALERT* Bok Nam is alive! Thank goodness!! *SPOILER ALERT OVER* Can't wait to see what's going to happen next week)

- Blow Breeze: (This is my first weekend drama and my first 50 episode drama that I'm tackling. I'm tired of seeing Mi-Poong so depressed and I want her to win! I can't wait to see when Elder finds out that he has a family after all and gives all his inheritance to Mi-Poong, Lee-Il Hwa's character and Mi-Poong's nephew. Also, Jang-go and Jang-soo mom and aunt really piss me off! Geez, Jang-go is a grown man who makes his own money let him decide who he wants to fall in love with UGH!)

Shows that have currently ended:

- FantastiC: (I originally started watching the show for Ji-soo but later on realized that the show had so much more to offer. I loved the actor who played So-Hye's doctor and was devastated when he died. I already miss the show and actually wished there were 18 episodes instead of 16.)

- Moonlight Drawn by Clouds: (Well directed, Well edited, cute main couple, Park Bo Gum, pretty costumes - so many good things to say but for some odd reason I couldn't connect to it emotionally like I have with Scarlet Heart. Maybe it's because they took out next episode previews, *SPOILER ALERT* the show made Jin-young's death scene too short *SPOILER ALERT OVER* or maybe because I feel that I'm not the intended demographic for the show. Idk )

- Drinking Solo: (Loved this show! I especially enjoyed watching Ki-Bum, Gong-Myung and Dong-Young. I finished college a few months ago and a few of the things the trio did reminded me of some of the things I did with my friends back in school. However, I was disappointed with the ending and hope they'll make it up with a season 2)

Non K-Drama Shows I enjoy watching:

- Empire: (So much going on this season and I'm curious to see what Lucious has up his sleeve when it comes to dealing...

Happy Friday everyone! I don't know about everyone else, but it was a pretty stressful week around here. If your's was like mine, I hope you have a better one next week. While trying to distract myself from other things, I had some thoughts about how we as fans sometimes react to and talk about dramas. I think that we as viewers sometimes do the dramas we watch a great disservice, and by extension we are doing a disservice to all the people working so hard to create that drama. By that, I mean that we sometimes get so wrapped up in our own expectations of what we want a drama to be that we lose sight of what it is. Stay with me for a few minutes and I explain it a little more.
I think that most of us start watching a drama with certain expectations for that drama. Those expectations are based on the drama's genre, past works of those involved in the drama, and previews. Sometimes, dramas meet or or exceed our expectations and we come here to gush and rave. Other times a drama doesn't meet our expectations and we come here to criticize and complain or otherwise express our disappointment.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think there is anything wrong with this per se. We've been excitiedly anticipating a drama, it's starts well, and then all falls apart. Like we've been watching these previews for what looks like an exciting disaster drama. We're anticipating seeing how people from all over come together to deal with the aftermath of said disaster. We get sucked into the drama and suddenly it becomes a drama about hospital polotics?! Yes, I am pointing at you D-Day. So we feel cheated and disappointed, and we come here to vent our frustrations. The's criticisms seem fair and justified.
Other times, however, I think that we either start or develop expectations that are unfair. Then, I feel that our comments can be more of a disservice to the drama. For example, when a drama bills itself as action is it fair to complain that there are too many action scenes or that the action isn't realistic? I would argue that we would find realistic actin scenes boring. Action scenes exist in large part to make our hero look awesome, cool, badass. When a drama provides that, shouldn't we say it is successful
I will admit that many of these thoughts came to me while participating in the K2 threads. I was getting all caught up with what I wanted the drama to be like, and I even made a comment about the writer possibly not being clever enough to pull something off. Then I saw in another post that someone had seen their comments posted on a Korean site of some sort. I started thinking, how would the writer feel seeing those comments. Would the writer perhaps feel like he was being treated unfairly. He set out to make a bodyguard action drama, not a political thriller for example.
In conclusion, discussing dramas is part of the enjoyment. Sometimes criticism and complaints are fair, but there is a fine line. We perhaps need to remember real people work...

Moonlight Drawn By Clouds -- I stopped watching the series, when the OTP separated (for too long), and just read the recaps.
Moonlight Lovers -- I also stopped watching this series, and am just reading the recaps to know if the story will end
like in the C-version.
K2 -- I dropped it.
1%of Anything and The Man Living In Our House -- I'm debating watching those. I'm just looking for something easy and fun for my brain.
1N2D season 3 -- I'm still enjoying it
3MAD (latest season) -- OMG, Eric ! He is such a good cook ! I'm totally impressed. I can't wait to watch the next episode (from today)

@halfmoon, @spazmo,

Amen and amen to 3MAD -- and THE MAN LIVING IN OUR HOUSE!

Yeah -- but 3MAD is even better with subtitles so you can understand what Eric's doing and why. I picked up a lot of great cooking tips... but even more than that, enjoyed watching how he organized his work flows and showed Kyun-sang the ropes. He's a really good teacher. For me, watching him in action was Zen-like (yep, they really did chop wood and carry water). By the end of the episode, I felt very calm, grounded, and relaxed -- like after watching WHY HAS BODHI-DHARMA LEFT FOR THE EAST? Chalk it up to that soothing voice of his.

And now I'm going to have to check out Chajumma. Another great cook with a great voice. Alas, it's going to cut into my Kdrama viewing. ;-)

PS: I recently watched MAN OF THE VINEYARD with O Man-Seok as the male lead, and had a blast. It's like 1% OF ANYTHING crossed with GREEN ACRES. As for MAN LIVING IN OUR HOUSE, cross VINEYARD MAN with FLOWER BOY RAMEN SHOP and add twists while swapping mandoo for noodles. This is how I'm cooling off as both MOONs wrap up.

I wasn't a fan of the separation in Moonlight too. I'm actually a fan of melo and welcome all the angst and tears, I love tears inducing dramas. But this is the one couple I love together more than I love them separated, and I thought I have no tears left to spare, but then they made me cried a river in every scene they were not together, together but not exactly together, and then together together, lol. Finish it if you have time to spare. I'm sure all the emotional payoff in the ending can soothe you, somewhat, I say somewhat because Ra-on was barely there in the few last episodes. *cries*
