FT Island’s Choi Jong-hoon heads JTBC youth drama

There’s a new youth-oriented drama in the works, titled Heroes and starring an idol from FT Island, Choi Jong-hoon. Wait, don’t click out yet just because of the word “idol”! The show is being produced for a run on JTBC—it’s a little out of the wheelhouse for them, since I would say their target age range is much older than the teens and twentysomethings being targeted by this show. But it needn’t be a bad thing, since many of the station’s shows do attract critical acclaim, and I’m always up for a well-crafted youth drama.
The news articles are pretty sparse on the story details, but let’s pick out what we can: Heroes is a drama centered around episodes depicting the lives of young twentysomethings, and Choi Jong-hoon’s lead character, who was schooled in the States, will have a bold and leader-like personality. I know, I told you it’s not much, but in the absence of more details I’ll choose to take an optimistic view.
The series was originally planned to be a sitcom-drama hybrid, but then switched to youth drama, which suggests that it’ll probably have a lighter bent even if it’s not outright comedic. The show is planning to air once a week with a total of 24 episodes, which is a new approach for JTBC, but I always welcome signs of experimentation with format and scheduling. I also like seeing cable stations taking departures from the fixed timeslots we see from the Big 3—not that I don’t also really like Big 3 dramas; it’s just good to have more, more, more. Even if I’m crying from lack of sleep. That’s just a burden I’ll have to bear in the name of K-drama.
Heroes plans to premiere in November.

And fans like you haven't done anything but complain...Instead of complaining why not buy their albums and go to their concerts..That way FNC will see an increase of interest and will promote them coz honey that's the way it is in showbiz no matter what part of the world you go...

It's Seunghyun, and he has a movie. :) For Jaejin yes it's High School Musical together with AOA's ChoA :) Minhwan had a musical last year too :)

For some reason, I'm really attracted to this project. Just sounds like something I'd really like to watch, even if the description isn't too revealing. In fact, perhaps it's that there isn't much description? Youth drama + JTBC already hooks me (and I'm not even that big of a JTBC watcher, other than YNS and I Live in Cheongdamdong). Looking forward to seeing how it shapes up :)
Also, don't know much about the lead, but certainly looking forward to seeing how Hong-ki's bandmate acts :)

This should be interesting. Jong Hoon doesn't have a ton of experience acting so I'm curious to see how he goes in a lead role. I like the idea of it only being once a week, and JTBC have been bringing out some quality dramas, so I look forward to watching this. I wonder who else will be cast.

Yep! He had a small role in You're my pet. Not great acting, but pretty decent. Not to mention really pretty *sigh*
I remember Hong Ki saying in an interview that, among the FTI members, he thinks Jong Hoon should should be given acting projects. That just shows how much they support each other, not competing against each other! So dissing Hong Ki for Jong Hoon's success doesn't make sense.

I agree with aicaramba. One of the many reasons I love FTI is because they seem to care about each other so much. It's great to love music and really like the people who make it too! I don't need every artist I love to be in a drama but I'll be a fan no matter what they try.

I remember watching him in this tvN idol dating show (forgot the name). He had a love-line with Yewon (the big sis from Reply 1997) and I totally thought he could make a good actor.
But yeahh, wow FNC getting more solo gigs for other FT Island members?? I'm gonna go ahead and assume he probably went through auditions for this role though (considering it's JTBC and he's not that well known honestly).
Anyway, the premise (or what we have of it) sounds promising! I'll look forward to this project ^^

Oh god I wasn't prepared for this. I've always wondered why FTISLAND isn't active on other solo activities save for a few musicals here and there (mostly in Japan though). I mean, they're not lacking in talent, or in looks or whatever production companies are looking for these days. Hongki
's Modern Farmer airs on the 18th and Seunghyun also has a movie coming and Jonghoon's drama in November! Gosh I'm stoked. I can't wait to see what Jonghun's going to be bringing to the table here. I'm so excited. XDD

JTBC has some good dramas. But I also think it depends on a lot of factors like whether the script was completed at the time of casting and whether the actor has an eye for good material.
Honestly, I think he would have been better off in a 2nd lead role - the way hongki and yonghwa and minhyuk worked their way up - so that he can develop his skills. His role in You Are My Pet was so insignificant that I don't think you can even tell if there's any acting skills there.
In my humble opinion.
