Hello everyone! How was your kdrama week? Out of all the dramas I’ve been watching currently, I’m most excited about Secret. I knew despite Min-hyuk’s ass-y behavior towards Yoo-jung before, that he didn’t do anything to the baby. That Do-hoon is really something else. I’m glad that he showed his true colors in episode 10 and YJ knows how low he would go to save himself. What he said to YJ in the restaurant made me so mad on top of all the bad things he’s been doing. I’m also happy that YJ found out that MH brought her to the hospital. She’s still wary of him (who wouldn’t?) but I think she’s starting to be more afraid of what Do-hoon would do to keep their secret. I want to know what really happened to little San and if MH would look into it since he had a flashback of YJ hanging clothes at the prison with her baby.

Basketball – Procrastinating. I’ll probably watch it before ep 3 & 4 airs.

Answer Me 1994 – I’m on team Bread Man. He should totally get the girl this time. In AM1997, I really wasn’t on Hyung’s team and I hope this time Oppa will get the girl because he’s not perfect. The other guy sounds more perfect therefore I’m against him on principle, hahaha. That may change later on, but right now, I adore Garbage Oppa.

Heirs – I like all the staring and glaring, but PD has to know that it’s taking a few beats too long for all that and it’s starting to feel like fillers. Made me say ‘Come on, chop-chop people’ out loud at my screen a few times. I like that Eun-sang isn’t your typical heroine who’s sooooo cheerful despite the lack of wealth and hardships. Add in her age, then sullen behavior’s part of it. I cheered that she didn’t do the Jan-di route and kicked bully’s ass. That may not be admirable (also Kim Tan ignoring the bullying), but my first thought was that she should think of her survival first and not think of making a fuss and add to her many problems. It’s a drama, and as much as I’m okay with the unrealistic stuff happening, at least the leads seem more human and less fictional than most. Laying low, keeping your head down, having a sense of self-preservation even if it’s selfish, haven’t we all done that unless one’s more stronger/powerful or thick-headed or just plain nosy and likes to meddle in other people’s business. However, I’d like to see what her character does to affect changes in either or both Kim Tan or Young-do (maybe even Rachel) since they’re the top dogs and has a lot of influence to make good changes in the school.

Yep, Secret is the best airing drama of the batch.

I also had faith in Min Hyuk where San Hee was concerned. 'Cause even if you don't consider his personality, the writer would not take such a dumb route of making the hero do such a deed when he/she wants him to end up with Yoo Jeong. What viewer would put up with that?

Secretly (hur), I was worried that when Yoo Jeong found out that Min Hyuk was the one who sent her to the hospital, she might randomly do a 180 in personality and suddenly like him. I don't know why I was anxious about that. Nevertheless, I'm glad that the writer is keeping a natural progression of her change in perspective related to Min Hyuk.

Re Garbage Oppa: Me too! I want him to get the girl and I'm a bit confident that they will end up together.

A part of me is very worried about them going to the cops to see the CCTV. Do Hoon is going to be very cruel should he find out. He will use everything he knows against all the prison girls and prison ahjummas. I was hoping heroine would just wit and plan instead of going in on her own. I want her and avenger/playboy to team up.

Am also glad he "read" Wuthering Heights and heroine also had a chance to read it. Forewarned, they won't fall into the abyss that avengers fall into. Yes, I'm talking about you Shark.

I don't think the CCTV thing is going to be an issue. Most likely won't even continue being part of the story after it served it purpose which was to have YJ see DH taking her father away.

okay. I hope so. Thanks. I understand Candy had to ask him the question to see if he is a liar but I get so annoyed when both Candy and hero actually tell Do Hoon too much information. Do Hoon is really capable of everything evil. If heroine planned to use the CCTV to possibly prosecute Do Hoon, I KNOW that tape would just disappear. I hope she knows well enough to not go after him in the legal way. But dang, with the re-investigation, it's now her word against his.

0

Ahh, now I see what you meant by that previous question. You were thinking of persecuting Do Hoon for the dad's death on the basis of the CCTV. Hmm, I'm not sure if the show will go that route because I don't even know if the writer is planning to punish Do Hoon through prison or through other means. If the writer does plan to send Do Hoon to prison and add the crime of leading the dad to his death, then I don't think the CCTV is going to disappear easily considering Yoo Jeong has a copy of it in a flashdrive and knowing Yoo Jeong, she would guard that thing very carefully after facing such cruel deception.

0

yes daydreamer, i was wondering about what type of justice Candy would seek -- legal or more "personal". The good thing is that she could get an ally if she wanted.

0

Carole, I guess you haven't seen 10. You will not be disappointed.

This show continues to rock my world. Ji Sung's acting is really good in it - actually they all are doing a great job. BSB is starting to go all psycho now (at least in my opinion) and he plays it well.

I keep hoping they don't screw up the ending like Nice Guy. With things slowly being revealed, I like that I don't know where it's going next, but I'm also leary. Wish I had marathoned this so I didn't have to wait another week!

I hope they don't mess up the ending as well.

I agree - Secret is the heart-wrenching, hair-pulling, amazing show. I adore little San and want him back.

I am glad you are watching Carol.

0

Korazy Lady (have I ever told you how I freaking love your name?? It's awesome): I also feel wary of the ending....like the show had been going so great and strong that I'm a little nervous that the ending is going to end up being crappy. So yeah, the unpredictability of the show is good...hopefully, it doesn't end up being bad.

Carole, I'm glad you joined us again too. :)

Guys, I havent even able to watch ep 2 bcs ep1 just make me bored to death ! But i'm super confused why a lot of ppl like Secret? even in dramabeans. -.- Tell me, is the show is worth watching and get the 2nd chance?

Oh and how its compare to Shark? I havent watch that one as well since never read any good reviews up for it,

0

I don't think this drama will go the way of Shark. There's a weird realism to it - logical fallacy in dramalande, I know - that's hard to explain, and yet makes it very gripping.

I think Do Hoon and his mother got rid of the baby by having it adopted. They've been so cruel to Yoo Jung, more than Min Hyuk in some ways.

I don't think YJ is safe from him at all.
If he has to shut her up, I don't think he is far from doing so ...forever.
He doesn't have to feed her poison or hold the gun, but he could manouever her to a place where death happens.
We can guess that is what happened with Dad.

0

Yeah, if he thinks he can get away with it, I'm sure he wouldn't baulk at a little thing like murdering his ex-GF!

He sure has an impressive body count. For an unassuming guy who supposedly can't lie that well.

We know that YJ can be a tigress when it comes to protecting those she cares for, but I'm looking forward to seeing how well she can protect herself, now that she knows DH's true nature.

0

Spoiler (possible): anyone else think that Min Hyuk's stepmother is his real mother? It's not the first time in drama land that the legal wife has taken the child of the concubine - heck, that's almost par for the course.

That could be the whole thingamabob right there.

They took her in because she was pregnant and they didn't want the world to see what a scum Daddy-o is. Real Wife took credit for the birth of the first born, but not the second.

0

TS, I also had that thought. The mom doesn't act quite like stepmoms of dramalands do. She might have been the mistress of the dad and bore Min Hyuk illegitimately and then wanted him to have a respectable upbringing like a legitimate son so she pretended he was the first wife's son. Otherwise don't stepmoms of dramaland generally harp on about making babies, particularly a son, so her true blood can be the proper heir?

At this point I can't believe that I almost passed on Secret. Episode 10 was a blockbuster as far as getting Candy's attention. And it looks like Ratbastid (also affectionately known as DH - for Dung Heap) is on his way down.

As one poster said on Viki - episode 10 caused me to scream, laugh, and make all kinds of weird animal sounds.

As far as Heirs goes, I am not even sure I will keep watching it.

Secret. The only drama I am watching now after recovering from the stupid ISYG pointless junk.

Secret is a gem. The way she holds her father's red coat and how she watches his last day on the computer... the actress is gifted in conveying emotions so deeply in complete silence.

I was never impressed much - or perhaps just did not notice HJE's acting in her previous dramas, but she sure nailed it in Secrets. It made me realize just how much difference a good actress can make.

The look on her face near the end of ep10 when she gets the revelation about who blocked the parole was downright scary.

0

Seriously, I hadn't been too impressed by Hwang Jung Eum before. She was blegh in Incarnation of Money (though I think that had to do with the ridiculous way her character was written and the bad hairstyle); decent in Can You Hear My Heart (again, the writer could've made her a little less annoying); and interesting in Giant (only because she was related to other far more interesting characters).

Only in Secret does she really have a complex, nuanced one-of-a-kind character: the Hard Candy. And it's then that I began to appreciate HJE's acting too because I could empathize with, root for, and applaud her YJ.

0

Completely agree. I was marvelling at how freaking amazing HJE is in Secret. She's been meh for me in other dramas. But she smashed me out the park with Secret. Especially the San/post San coping episodes. I cried when she cried, and not just because of her shit circumstances, but because she did such a great job of portraying Yoo Jung's emotions realistically. New love for her.

0

The writer on this has done a much better job than usual, far better than most. It started out in the first episode or two as pretty much the conventional Candy, but then it veered off into places not usually taken in these dramas.

Most k-dramas are pretty predictable, but I am not sure which way this will turn yet. There are still a lot of secrets to come out, and many of those that I thought I knew at first, now I am not so sure about - such as who really killed the girl, and what (if any) was the chairman's and/or Bird Lady's involvement?

I am with you on Bread man, guy needs his love. I am still holding out on how the other guy is though. And as of now we only know that she has a starting crush on him. No clue weather or not it goes the other way as well. For all we know his feelings could be strictly that of and "oppa" grown up with her an focused on taking on his friends place as an older brother.

Heirs: I haven't seen the epsiode yet, but from the recap it sounded like she is bothered about it (the bullying), but still doesn't feel secure enough to do anything about it yet.

I agree with you that the characters all seems more realistic and human (besides no one believing half of them to be in high school.. oh how I wish it could at least have been uni). Even Bo-Na in her own private little world excists in real life.

Secret reminds me of Gag Concert’s Mr. Park’s kdrama ratings numbers antics with hurricane twists and HYPE galore, I’m pounding my fists just give me more! Stop yanking my chain, drama! The one thing this show does well is to move forward by unraveling the dark secrets of the past that the audience is privy to but the characters don’t know. I’m antsy, though because ep 10 was slow, although I give bonus points for incorporating Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights. The flashback of San with bruises, and the prison cell mate appearing again – just what?! Do Hoon scum of the earth, you still won’t stop?

I didn't find it slow - I'm really happy that we keep getting a little closer to the truth each episode. It will be very interesting to see how MY + YJ's relationship unfolds.

The writer would have to tread very carefully to turn this into a full blown romance between YJ and MY. He still is rather creepy/stalkerish. When cornered he acts like a grade school boy who tries to cover up the fact that he likes the girl by acting all tough towards her. At least that is thawing some now.

That's why I'm seeing more of a benefactor relationship for YJ and her son, whom I'm hoping shows up at the end. (I actually think MY will be responsible for finding him. His poor secretary - you know he'll be doing all the leg work!) YJ will be able to understand why MY did what he did, and MY will feel redeemed by continuing to help YJ. Unless there is a time jump, lol. Then anything goes!

She really had no place else to go, and at that point she thought that Dung Heap still had at least a few feelings for her - at least that is my take on it.

0

Integrity and honor.

Seoul is her home and she is not a person to skip out on her debts. Also the bakery was all she had left of her dad.

0

The drama moves smoothly and grabs my attention from the beginning to the end. I don't see any fillers so far.

I have three questions remain:

1. If MH's girlfriend was injured before the car hit her, who was trying to kill her?

2. Who took San if he is still alive? My bet is actually on DH, not his disgusting mom.

3. Is the stepmom actually MH's real mother?

0

Required fields are marked *

#1 - that is still a mystery. At first I thought it was the chairman's henchman - but now I am not so sure. In the video from the black box in the Mystery Car, I think they said that one of the possible drivers was Bird Lady. I don't think that Min Hyuk has seen that, video, since Dung Heap apparently managed to erase it.

#2 While reading the comments on Viki some people came up with a possible scenario for her son. I already posted on that further down so will not repeat it here.

0

@WindSun33

I scanned the thread twice and couldn't find your answer to my third question, as to where San is and who took him.

I think it's DH. He has been evil and he ordered to hit his own baby boy in prison! URGGHHH, those sad eyes, he is a psychopath climbing the ladder over the body of his only son.

0

@ kngdrama - sorry, had written it up in another window but had not posted it yet, as was still working it out.

It is up now as post #40.

0

also, kngdrama, will the blackbox show the scene where the purse was lying and HD touched it, but maybe the actual body wasn't in view of the recorder? That would still be enough to get HD if he is recorded bending down at the purse even if the body is not recorded~

Looks like HD will show up on lots of footage coming up soon...

0

My take:

1. Daddy killed his girlfriend because he wanted MH to marry Ms Painter for political/economical reasons. Dad had no clue son would go crazy over unsuitable girlfriend.

2. I think DH or his mother gave San up for adoption. The reason - so that DH is not beholden to his unsuitable girlfriend.

3. I do not think stepmom is his real mother - age, but I do think that stepmom is playing his father for his money.

0

Thank you all for the ideas. Secret is the right title for this drama. Paused in suspense, looking for clues.

Hello other Secret beanies! I get so curious reading all the comments on Friday but I am not that fast, I can only watch Thursday ep on Friday night. There is something about the good shows that make me only watch them at night. Secret with all the angst and twist is a very nightly show for me. :) I can comment earlier stuff though!

- Did anyone else got puzzled by they dressing like that to go to Friday's? And that big logo everywhere in the beggining of ep 9? Very awkward product placement!
- I wish she had disappeared longer, love watching MH go crazy!
- Loved the scene she crossed the street and sort of faked being hit by the car, even the Candy is twisted, looooved.
- Got a bit confused by SY, thought she was on a road to like DH too and now not so much, is she just using him? Maybe that will be clearer in ep 10?
-Loved that DH called the cops on the bag ladies just to scare YJ and make her disappear, loved his scene asking her how long will she make him feel bad, BSB is finally embracing the dark side fully and going bonkers.
-I like the silent minion too. :P

I had to be at a candy store opening once and the owner was in semi-formal with diamonds dripping off of her for the pictures. They had champagne and snacks and talked about how much money the chain was racking in.
The manager treated her like she was God. The sucking up was off the scale.

I am pretty sure that Bird Lady is just using Dung Heap for her own purposes, perhaps at first in an attempt to make Min Hyuk jealous, which turned out to be an epic fail on her part.

DH has several - Dong Heep, Dung Heap, Ratbasid, Do Jerk, Slime Dog, and a few others :).

0

I love it that hero and heroine are so nuts in their own way. They definitely love passionately. Once they're in, they're all in. Hero sees how a truly loving woman would sacrifice herself to save him. But when he questioned Se Yeon, he saw that although she loved him she didn't have tht weird sacrificial quality.

About the clothes: I am so missing hero's red jeans. He ws wering them in the previous episodes although years were passing but now...nooooooooo ..fashion has apparently moved ahead.

Yes, they are nuts and people do bend finally to their will because being nuts gives you an unusual power. Even the mother of the dead girl gave YJ fish and started to care for her. I see them living together at the end of at least having some kind of relationship (the fish adjummah and YJ).

YJ has no family left now. She thought that DH's family was hers or would be hers when she marries DH but now it's only Unnies from prison. She will rebuild the family with the strength of her heart and care for others. She is a natural giver.

yes! yes! We gotta honor the found families made up of nuts and outcasts!!! I loved when they offered Hero food and he was so unaccustomed to spicy food. (very foreign of him in many ways.)

0

I would love to see more of YooJung interacting with JiHee's mother.

0

I had thought about that too, in this way YJ and MH are perfect for each other, they are VERY radical people. You will think I'm over the top but I easily imagine YJ trying to kill DH if she finds out he is somehow responsible for the deaths of her son and father. It would be kind of poetic justice if at the end she does commit a crime but never pays for it.

I just finished watching Master's Sun and I have to say, I was a little disappointed because everyone kept going on about how explosive their chemistry was that it felt a little flat when I finally saw it. I preferred her chemistry with CSW in BL. Every time he looked at her I thought she was going to spontaneously combust. I didn't feel that way at all in MS. But I love Little Sun/Candy to no end. Surprisingly, this is really the first time I heard someone said GHJ's chemistry with CSW is better than with SJS (???)

I am one of biggest fan of TGL, CSW is one of my crush ahjussi, before Master's Sun, I still thought that GHJ's best chemistry is in Pasta with Lee Sun Kyun , one of truly best natural chemistry I've ever seen but then watching Master's Sun, well, all of fan I've read their comments, which is most of them are TGL's big fan too, admire GHJ's chemistry and SJS are better...

I'll agree if you said that TGL is better writing than TMS, but TMS has done much better for chemistry between lead...

TGL is phenomenal mostly because of dokko jin, but TMS, phenomenal mostly because of fantastic OTP... but well, not everyone have same taste and mind tough, sorry if my comment dont please you... :)

@dramabeans
I havent watch any current airing korean drama yet, but I watch many old drama, and this is the list :

- H.I.T : OMG... love love ha jung woo oppa here, he was so handsome and so CUTE!!! great chemistry with Goo Hyon Jung Onnie, dont really interested to investigation plot, mostly skipped it but was enough to keep me watching until final :D

- almost all of GHJ's (gong Hyo jin) drama like pasta, TGL, Thank You, ruler your own world. Rewatch thank you made me more realize how beautiful she is really, how she is so natural in acting, her chemistry with child actress is incredible, I really adore her and tough I love master's sun so much, but Thank You is still her best drama for me, one of my top 7 favorite drama all time.

- watch drama ruler your own world for the first time, even she is just a second lead female, her character shine brightly, no wonder she even won popularity award for this, and OMG, really hard to believe that the GHJ in this drama is the same person with GHJ in master's sun!

- some old movies of GHJ, like Happiness, a bizarre triangle love, M, sister on the road... just become more and more adore GHJ for her acting, no matter what is her character, lead or just a supporting role, she nailed it!

- and some of HJW's (ha jung woo) old movies too... this man is really one of best asian actor in my book now, an artist with overload charisma, I adore him and hope in future, I can see him and GHJ reunite once again, perhaps for serious genre(?)

- What I am watching right now is japanese drama, Doctor X 2 and Andy Lloyid. I actually interested to watch HEIRS because of the writer, mirae because of YEH, secret because of the genre, and medical top team because of JJHnJRW but I dont know why I cant bring my self yet to watch those drama... :( maybe in future...

Question:

In one scene, the girlfriend's father was in Bae Soobin's car, and in the next scene he was dead in the morgue.

What happened there?! Did Bae Soo-bin kill his girlfriend's father? Did the father die on his own? I'm totally lost.

Can someone please tell me what happened? Put up spoilers, of course. Thanks in advance!

G -

Of course I don't know where you're watching Secret, but if you're watching it on television in the U.S., and because this is a KBS drama, KBS cuts out scenes completely for broadcast television.

I have no idea why they do this, other than to guess that they do this to make the drama fit in the allotted time, which includes commercials.

The consequence of this, however, is that the viewer gets an incomplete picture of what's really going on. My Mom's watching this drama on broadcast television and she also has questions about some of the things that are happening, just like you.

Since I'm not watching Secret, other than a few minutes here and there, I'm sorry I can't offer any help regarding the father.

This is super late and you probably won't get to read it but here goes: This seems have been the story telling style of the writer. We are finding this out along with the characters. So we discover YJ's father like she does, in the morgue. The who, when, how will come back later as she uncovers the truth herself. I have noticed this with other plot points in this drama.

I am watching on viki.com and the sequence of scenes seems to be the same as yours.

Hello Beanies! Here's a brief spiel on the dramas I'm watching.

Reply 1994: Finally watched ep 1-2. A bit slow but enjoyable. Probably helps that I watched little of Answer Me 1997 (it's a kind of drama that I should've watched live instead of trying to marathon) so the minor issues that others may have about it don't really resonate with me.

Rough Cut/A Movie Is a Movie: this is me following the trail of So Ji Sub. Dude can do broodiness and melancholiness like no other. I enjoyed his performance but didn't quite understand the ending. Like, what did his pointed looks towards Hang Ji Hwan and Ji Hwan's ensuing teared up expression mean? Was it a secret bromance code?

Castaway on the Moon: was in the mood for movies post-Rough Cut so I randomly picked this one up. Quirky, endearing, and funny....totally recommend it.

Basketball: Has right ingredients but disappointing execution. Probably won't watch this.

I'm Sorry, I Love You: Reasons for watching this: melo; So Ji Sub (god bless Master's Sun); and BAKSA FREAKING ADEUL. Yet I only watched until ep 10 because I got fed up with So Ji Sub brooding his socks off for long stretches of time. Yeesh. Stop being such a sad sack all the time.

Mirae's Choice: Ajhumma Mirae must share her Big Special Reason by next OT or I'll supremely dislike her for being naggy and meddlesome. Everything else is great (except maybe the parallel universe played out in dreams). Shin-Mirae, fighting!

Secret: The week wherein Hard Candy went batshit crazy and totally disillusioned (Woohoo!); Do-Jerk became even more shameless, selfish, and hateful (Ugh!); Hot Chaebol became more boyishly charming (Squee!); and poor Kwang Soo still can't catch a break (Buahaha!). All in all, the drama continues to stay strong in its awesomeness. I am looking forward to Yoo Jeong totally bashing Do Hoon's head in now that she knows of his misdeeds. Make him pay, girl!

Let's hope he's being paid a lot for taking all that abuse from his rich bosses and being ordered around to spy for MH. I've always wondered why a lot of wealthy kdrama characters had to do the spying/stalking themselves and not hire a P.I...

I'm guessing they don't like any outsiders to have any information about their lives. Those chaebols are almost an incestuous bunch, lol. It would really seem weird to a P.I. as MY's obsession is off the charts - you can tell poor Gwang-Soo even thinks MY is nuts!

0

MH, sorry.

0

In theory, there are no PI's in Korea - at least that is what the law says. But like most unenforceable laws they just use different names, like Background Investigator or something similar.

But I think the main reason is that in k-drama land, just knowing that someone is digging for information can cause ripples, so they want to keep it as private as possible.

0

LOL! You just cracked me up. Loved that last line.

If Min Hyeoke ends up in jail for something I expect poor Gwang-soo to be sitting right beside him.

LMAO!! That would be awesome. Min Hyuk finding one way or another to keep Kwang Soo beside him.

Poor Kwang Soo. Why do i picture him owning a little bakery far from hero in the end? When he got slapped i thought of the medieval days when princes had a whipping boy/best friend who got punished for whatever the prince did.

Do Hoon has got to be the most entitled character I've seen in ages. Of course the hero is entitled but only because he's rich and has money. His heart is a lot kinder. But Do Hoon ..wow! ...beauty may be skin deep but arrogance is to the bone.

He moved in on the status, the job, the fiance as if they are all rightfully his. Is there something vaguely insane about his passion for money and status? Everyone in this drama is so obsessed but the power obsession I really hate.

@Carol

It's testosterone. He competes with MH. He's become a bull with one purpose - to get up there and bring ruin to MH.

DH has a point as MH continuously taunted and tortured him mentally and emotionally.

DH descended down into a crazy pit at the restaurant, when he cried and laughed like a maniac at the same time. That was a time of the switch, when his world changed.

0

@kngdrama: I guess when the testosterone starts into overdrive there is no stopping it. So sad seeing him when he was just a sweet little student all nervous about a girl at the bus stop talking to him. And now...wow!!!!! He's swung the other way...even gone delusional, thinking someone not of his class could love him. And the way he treats chairman's secretary. There's megalomania...even Chairman recognizes it.

0

If there is a kdrama hall of fame and infamy Ahn Do Hoon should be entered as worst boyfriend ever in all kdarama history.

Moo Hyuk got a bullet in his head that is dangerous to operate on, so I think he's fully justified in feeling depressed throughout the drama. The drama is such a downer though. It's probably good you stop at episode 10 because after that it gets draggy. And more tears. And the ending doesn't resonate with some people. It's the kind of drama I watch when I really need me some good cry, and it manages to wring tears out of me every time. I quite like it, tbh. But then again not many have a high tolerance for the melodramas LKH penned out.

I never had the need to have a good cry, don't know why and having never watched any kdramas before couldn't understand how much of a tearjerker I'm Sorry I Love You could be before watching it. I have to be honest, I haven't watched it in full, used a lot of fastforwarding and skipping scenes but I agree, boy does that story make you cry buckets. Since then anytime I hear the same about a drama I stay clear of it (like I Miss You). I'm just not into bad endings and depressive stuff... Can't even listen to two Pink Floyd songs back to back, almost makes me want to kill myself...

Yes, I understand he has reasons to be depressed and all. But I just wish the drama would cut his brooding a little short or have less of it. I liked the scenes more when he was incorporating himself into the lives of his sister, nephew, and grandfather or when he was more active in trying avenge his mom and brother.

I'm a fan of melos and I think LKH does a general good job of them (ie, Nice Guy). It's just her pre-Nice Guy stuff seem to have much slower pacing that drives me a bit nuts. I mean, I started watching Thank You and I was enjoying it but the slow pace made me not finish the drama. At some point, I just get fed up.

Please please do finish Thank You! I agree it's slow going in the beginning (and the sleepy OST doesn't help), but give it a few episodes in and it totally amps up plot wise. But it is a character-driven drama, and it nicely balances the somber and the tragic, with hope and uplift!!

It's miles better than MiSa IMO. MiSa just doesn't hold up, sorry to say. So do try and give Thank You another go!

0

yes, totally agree with you! Thank You is one of best drama in my book too!

0

Err...thanks? Because of your post, I started watching Thank You. It's really good actually it's climbing high up in my list of all time favorites. I'm a newly minted GHJ fan and I've been catching up with most of her works. I'm done with Biscuit Teacher, TGL, TMS...next up, her movies. Any suggestions on what to watch first beanies?

0

I agree with you about Future Mirae. I want to know more of why she want to change things. I am liking the drama as it is otherwise. I don't want it to take a turn for makjang. But i do want a reason for why the pairing shouldn't happen.

The difference between the two Candy's in the competing dramas Heirs and Secret is interesting.

Heirs Candy seems to have a hollow center, a big difference from first impressions. Meanwhile, Secrets Candy seems to have a Carbide center, and I think that her ex is in deep doodoo now that she is getting a clue or five.

so true. There is something incredibly strong for better or worse about Secret's heroine ability to love and sacrifice. Heirs Candy is pretty whiny and I tried to excuse it becuse she is young or because the screenwriter is too busy juggling so many characters tht she doesn;t have the time to show us how deep Heirs Candy is.

I kind of got fed up with Heirs Candy. As you say, she is a whiner, and it gets old. She spends way too much time crying and feeling sorry for herself, and seems determined to have very low aspirations.

I think the first time that Heirs Candy let me down was when she was complaining about the chaebol group that her mother works for, blaming them for her mothers situation. I don't really see where they are at fault for that. Her mother herself said that she could not get or keep a job anyplace else.

maybe the writer thinks constantly bitching females are attractive

0

You know it would never even cross my mind to compare them. Honestly I only call YJ a Candy for fun but I don't even feel she really matches the description, maybe I have a prejudice but Candies for me are not real people. They are a idealized version of a female character, sometimes a good actress can infuse some spark and she looks real but they are not very complex, don't have real substance.

From the first ep I saw YJ as a real person, yes, she was poor and optimistic and cheerful but somehow it seemed genuine and to come from her personal history as well as her personality. The story pretty much supported that view at every crazy turn.

Heirs Candy began rather well, better than I expected but now I'm so bored. I like that she is whiny and likes horror movies and that's that, I know absolutely nothing about her besides this. I don't get why she had so many jobs, why blamed the company, why she didn't talk more with her sister, why she fell head over heels for LMH as soon as he said he was the second son and began sobbing like that. Anyway, probably doesn't help that I can't find more than 2 or 3 expressions on PSH's face. IF even Jung Yong-hwa can improve, I don't understand why can't she. I don't talk about Heirs much, story is too ludicrous, I watch only because it is sometimes amusing, even if unintentionally, and later I can laugh reading the squeecaps.

0

@ Lixie: I don't know about Heirs Candy since I don't watch that show but even we think Secret Candy is a much better version of the usual Candy...in that she is actually realistic....so we call her Hard Candy instead, lol.

0

Ya, and hating on a whole corporation coz the family who owns that empire group 'works' her mother so hard. I really cant stand her. So ashamed of her background. So resentful of being born into poverty and with a mother that is mute! So ungrateful that at least she is smart and has a loving mom , food and roof over her head. Everytime she sees rich people, she goes into a self pitiying mode. So unlikable.

It doesnt help, for me, that she is played by pSH. I find her placid bovine expressions with the occasional furrowed brow and constant downturn lips annoying. There i said it!! And on OT. Please dont kill me. I havent been as irritated with an actress since kim ha neul in AGD!!

0

@ Lixie - I agree that Secrets Candy is not really a Candy, it is more a "title of convenience" than a real description. I kind of like the term Hard Candy that some have been using - giving the initial appearance of a Candy, until you bite it :)

0

I never get why not all posts have the reply button?

@DayDreamer @Windsun33

I agree! HardCandy is a better title for her, now I just need a petition to make every writer give every candy a hard coat in every drama.:P

@Enz

"Ya, and hating on a whole corporation coz the family who owns that empire group ‘works’ her mother so hard."

You know what I don't get? A huge mansion like that would have at least 3 or 4 workers and they show it like it is just her mom. It would be great for a silly sitcom but Heirs wants to be serious, so becomes stupid.

"I find her placid bovine expressions with the occasional furrowed brow and constant downturn lips annoying. There i said it!! And on OT."

Ahahahahahaha, I knew somehow there had to be a way of describing it. You nailed it. :P
ps: PSH fans please don't be offended. :)

Hi everyone :-)

I'm watching:

Heirs: really loving it....mainly because of Lee Min Ho and the OTP....but I also like the interconnected characters...

Mi Rae's Choice: enjoying it a lot and wow...Jung Yong Hwa has improved a lot in terms of acting...the show is fun..Lee Dong Gun and Yoon Eun Hye have a great chemistry...

Have my exams in a few days..... :-)

HELLO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How are you all??? I’ve been back at Uni for several weeks now. Yes I am relieved to not be home any more haha. My life can get back to normal.
Unfortunately… things have been completely insane. Firstly B and Scone guy had a REALLY BAD breakup. Yeah… things got bad. Now B warned me that I was going to be dragged into this because everyone was being (yeah… things are complicated… ex’s etc) and well… given Scone guy had a massive crush on me I was kinda a prime target. Fortunately I haven’t been… cause I think they realised it would fail. I mean, seriously… me… breakup my best friend’s relationship over some stupid guy? Ha. Hardly. I’d rather die. So yeah… that was annoying but meh… not too bad in the end. I think everything’s worked out for the best now.
Now… secondly… (and more worryingly)… umm… I should start from the beginning right? Well… surprise surprise HKG and his girlfriend broke up over the summer… And also surprise surprise… he’s back to himself again. (In case you missed the sarcasm… neither of these are a surprise at all…) And… yes… we’ve become friends again. (I’d actually forgotten how much I missed hanging out with him. It’s always entertaining.)
Now… one of my close friends at Uni has become infatuated with him. She’d became so clingy and followed him to our Rock Society event (and she doesn’t even like Rock music…) and just in general started being a bitch to me. I was talking to him at one point and she mouthed the words ‘fuck off’ to me. Now… I’ve been friends with him a lot longer than she has hence why I found this very pathetic. But if we fell out it would be over a guy right? And I refuse to fall out over a guy. Ever. Chicks before dicks. Always.
Then she wrote a bitchy facebook status about me. I flipped (because I was so done with dealing with her shit) and wrote one about her. Felt really bad as soon as I posted it and deleted it. Cause me being a bitch? Yeah… not really my thing.
Now this made me very very unhappy for quite a while given even though she’s changed a lot and is not like her any more I miss old her. And I’ve never fallen out with someone before. I don’t like it. I’m not used to this.
I’ve tried making up with her but she’s been avoiding me. However one night when she was very drunk she I guess forgot she wasn’t talking to me and we made up. She promptly forgot the next morning. I have hope things will get better.
And about me and HKG. We’ve been chatting on facebook quite a lot and it’s been nice even if I get really weird during those times (I… can’t even begin to describe how weird our conversations are…) However… I think too much has happened and we know each other too well to ever get in some kind of relationship. Also, I don’t think he’d ever like me. But our current relationship… way too weird to even begin to describe what it is… I mean… But I’m glad we’re friends again. I missed it.
On non-entertaining (to you. None of this is entertaining to me) parts of my life… my Dad stopped the tiny amount of money he gave me every week cause he’s a dick. This means I am insanely broke. £200 in overdraft already and no new money until January. Joy. Starving and no fun for me is now how my future looks. On the plus side, this now means I have no reason to remain in contact with him. So I’m not. I’ve also decided to change my last name. I need to do it legally but I’m just testing it out at the moment. I like it so far.
My life yo… it’s such a drama without any of the good parts.

Also, OMG Heirs is so so so so so good <3 I’m loving it. I think this is the first drama since Gaksital I’ve enjoyed. It’s been too long…

Oh wow, your life could really be a drama in an off it self. I feel your pain over the money situation. I had my wallet stolen when I went to China (just before my plane left. joy) and was also in a situation of choosing between buying water or buying food. Also know how it is to be caught between two sides of a break up, and having friends change upon getting in and out of relationships. You have my sympathies, never a fun place to be.

I hope things work out for you!

I know... I'm not in one BUT 2 completely unrelated love triangles... (and it's not complicated, I'm on B's side. 100%. She's one of my best friends).
It would be worse if I didn't make myself keep out of everything. My no drama rule is becoming very very hard to follow.
And sorry everyone who finds my drama boring. I just feel duty bound to update the OT with it every so often.

And oh that sucks!! I hope you were able to get money somehow... And I want to go back to China again...

I get you! I was lucky enough not to be in the love triangle as such, but it was a bad break up between my best/longes guy friend and one of my (few) really good girl friends. So was awkward. I did tell them both that I was gonna be there for both of them, and not picking sides. But it can be really hard at times. Especially when other people try to make you pick a side!

Yeah it worked out for me. My work place gave me a bit of my wages in advance so doing okay. Got enough money to spend, though not enough to waste. But it was quite tight for a while (thank god for my free lunch at work..) So really hope things find a way to work out for you too!

Oh you've been to china before? This is my first time here.

Ah yes. That would be difficult. Fortunately I don't have to decide as in my case the answer is simple.

Yes, I went to Shandong for a month summer 2012... (thank god for Student loans haha) and it was brilliant XD
I want to go back again.

So you're there now? How long are you there for??? Where are you visiting??? I hope you have a great time!! <3

0

Yes I am here now. Staying a year working as a teacher in a kindergarten (yay gap year between studying for bachlor and masters ;) ) I am based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei. about 4 hours outside of Beijing by car.

Am liking it thus far. Need to get myself one of those masks to ward of pollution though I think. =P

0

Oh a whole year??? Sounds amazing XD
I wish you good luck!! And hope your area is nice!!
And definately visit Beijing lots!! I want to move there in the future for a bit. I can't wait to visit <3

0

Yeah had a 4 day trip to Beijing at the beginning of October. So much to see.

My city is really polluted but it does have its own charm. So far my biggest thing as been feeling the need for knowing more Chinese. Big mistake in not being good at studying it on my own before coming here. Don't get me wrong, we get by, but knowing more would have been nice. So far it's a lot of nodding, gesturing and "smile and wave boys, smile and wave" mentality going on. Especially with the children :p
