Kwon Sang-woo booked for a hit and run
by javabeans
Kwon Sang-woo has gotten himself into a bit of a pickle for a hit and run accident, for which he was booked (but not detained) by Seoul’s Kangnam Police Station on June 24.
According to the police station, the incident occurred at 2:55 am on the morning of June 12, in an alley in the Cheongdamdong neighborhood of Kangnam. The Cadillac driven by Kwon hit a parked car on the front bumper. Kwon allegedly then backed up, colliding with the patrol car that was approaching from behind. He drove on for about 300 meters to a nearby parking lot, then hit (again!) a tree. He apparently gave up all hope of a smooth getaway scene and got out of the car, and then ran off.
(Okay, I know this is a criminal charge, but OMG SO FUNNY.)
Two days after the incident, on the afternoon of June 14, Kwon went to the Kangnam Police Station and was questioned. Kwon’s explanation for his behavior was, “The patrol car was following behind me and there was a sudden accident, and I got scared.” He added that he had not been drinking. There’s no way to know if he had in fact been drunk, so he is only being accused of a hit and run at this time. (Although if that’s the way the guy drives sober, dude has no business behind the wheel, period!)

LOL - the way you described it was so funny! omg - this is a reason why he shouldn't be driving. if he has been driven around most of his life he shouldn't take up driving all of a sudden, in the WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING. :P

How about just doing the decent thing and taking responsibility for his mistake? Doesn't he have insurance?

Ahaha. I'm sorry to laugh at something serious like this, but I could just imagine him driving around bumping into everything, including the friggin' fuzz! XD
Well, no one was hurt so why run away? Unless he was drunk of course (which, considering the time, would make sense), but still. Better to be given a fine for being drunk than ending up on the news with this kind of a story.
And I agree. If that was the work of a sobber and competent driver, I'd hate to see what bad drivers are like in South Korea. Or rather, I wouldn't :P And he's got this awesome luck to go along with his skills. How can you back up into a cop car? XD

@Two Cents, I think that's what he's doing now with the coming forward to the police and to the press. He's using very apologetic language and saying the hit and run was his fault. Not to cut him too much slack for a stupid mistake, but I can KIND OF see how he panicked in that situation.

Hahaha! Not the cool image he portrays. Running off! Are you kidding me! No apology, however phrased, should be accepted. What a clown. I have to say, he must have been drinking since the repercussions for drunkn' drivn' are high in Korea. Therefore, he ran.
I have to ask: is getting caught in a drunk driving hit-run accident worse than running away from the above incident and it never being determined if you were drinking?
Also, I have to know what kind of cadillac. If it's a coup de ville, I'd have to cut him some slack. The alleys around Cheongdam-dong are really tiny and a coup de ville is fairly long!

How embarrassing to have to admit to doing that while sober!
Sounds like he was a little impaired, his driving must have aroused suspicion for the patrol car to be following him down an alley. Perhaps they only wanted his autograph!

It's really fun. Sorry, Kwon Sang-woo. :D
Though honestly, I would've panicked too. Colliding with a car before him, not a big deal. Colliding with a PATROL CAR right after that, yeah. And then colliding again with a tree... I'm surprised he still had the energy to get out and run.

he CERTAINLY has the muscles of a man, but definitely not the conscience of one.
I don't think I'd run away in that situation, but I understand how he did. He's just not prepared for the media & things, on another side....it seems too obvious that he drank....a double hit?! common.... But idk , we weren't there so let's not talk about that.

This is so hilarious when you imagine it. Not just hitting into an object 3 times, but he actually RAN!? Maybe it's also because it's Kwon Sang Woo?
If it'd been any other guy, I'd give him weird looks. But for me, I don't know why, I just find it hilarious because it's Kwon Sang Woo. Sigh.
On a serious note: I hope no one is hurt and good thing he didn't bring his son.
Like JB, I can see how he could have panicked. I mean, he could have accidentally hit a car, and tried to move away by backing up. But when he smacked into the other object, that's when he made some very bad decisions to run away.
At least there's evidence there's some sanity in his brain after his weird stunts by coming back to the station.

ROFL.. I'm sorry I couldn't stop laughing. My mom's giving me the look why suddenly am I laughing so hard. But it looks like an episode from a comedy cop show or at least a funny episode of cops. It's funny imagining a superstar running away like this. But bad things happen sometimes, that's life. However, I couldn't believe the not being intoxicated part though, how can a person hits 3 times in a row while sober unless he is a horrible driver. Like JB described "Although if that’s the way the guy drives sober, dude has no business behind the wheel, period!"
Anyway I hope everything works out for the better.

The guy was drunk. No one can be that stupid or careless to hit so many objects in sequence without being drunk. He got off easily.
I think this is not bad as if he were to hit and run when completely sober. Alcohol could impair judgment, but without being drunk, KSW does not have an excuse to run like that.

Wow!
I don't want to start throwing accusations to him about being drunk because let's face it, he's still human and he's bound to get scared. Maybe he's never been in trouble like this in the past and trying to run was the first thing that came to mind.
I know the first time I got a ticket, I thought about it, too, but the smart thing I did was to just pull over, got the ticket, and then dealt with it.
I don't want to make any excuses for him whatsoever but give him a break! The law would take care of it and it's ridiculous if he thought he can get away from it after that fiasco he pulled. I couldn't help but snicker when I first read what happened, too. Hit a parked car, backed up into a police car, crashed into a tree, and then fledding? Wow!
Seem like it's straight from a comedy skit. With that said, Kwon Sang Woo, fighting! Just be SMARTER & MORE RESPONSIBLE next time!

Since no one was hurt and it sounds like he came forward, I have to say this is pretty hilarious. I could see it being part of a kdrama. Lead Guy, you think oh-so smooth after dragging the heroine into the car because of something and suddenly does all of that. Even better if one of the cars was a Second Lead's car with s/he there so they both have to run off in hilarity!

This sound like he's obviously drunk, or has some kind of drugs in his system. Otherwise he wouldn't have reacted the way he did. The incident was minor but he wanted to get away - obviously sounds like he has something to hide. Too bad cuz they didn't catch him otherwise they could tested him for substance abuse

1. Don't try to run from police.
2. Actions speak louder than words.
3. Drunks don't ever think that they are drunk.
4. Ture story - a guy got into his car on the side of the passenger seat & drove, hit a tree so bad that his car was all smashed. He said he had just a little to drink, so to avoid drunk driving, he was "just" bringing the car to a friend so that the friend can drive him. (In his drunk reasoning, if he sat in the passenger seat, then it's NOT driving.)

Hahaha...wow. A part of me can't believe this is a true story; it really does sound like a scene out of a comedy. I can't believe he ran from the cops after all that...running from the authorities is NEVER a good idea...and he's a known and loved celebrity...how could he not have stopped to think of how much worse it will look by running away...he must have been drunk.

I have a different angle...
what's the chance of seeing a real patrol car pulling up right after you hit a parked car at that hour - 2:55 am (poor guy needed to pay his wife for going home late)? Flashing light, siren at that hour - that would scare me. As a celeb, I think it's in his rights to consider this a possible set up... perhaps the gang-pei was trying to mug him?
But why reporting to the police 2 days after the accident... that... I can't explain.

Heh. Whether he's drunk or not, let the law determine. But it's too late to test anything now. So, he only has his own conscience to deal with.
I wonder what the cops must have felt seeing the empty car...
