Lee Young-ae goes for her doctorate
by javabeans
Lee Young-ae is one of those A-list stars whose next project is highly anticipated, but fans will have to wait a bit longer for her comeback, because she has announced that she is going back to school for her doctorate.
Lee Young-ae graduated from Hanyang University with a degree in German, then attended graduate school at Joongang University and earned her master’s in theater and film. She will be starting her program at Hanyang’s graduate school of theater in film for the latter semester this year.
Lee’s management explained that she isn’t going for her doctorate with the specific goal of becoming a professor: “She merely has a strong interest in studying, and after she earned her master’s degree she wanted to keep going with school. She won’t stop working because of her doctorate course.” She plans to begin her studies in early June.
The 38-year-old actress has been selective with her projects and hasn’t acted much in recent years after her hugely successful drama series Dae Jang Geum in 2004 and the film Sympathy for Lady Vengeance in 2005. No doubt her return project, whatever it ends up being, will be met with a great amount of interest.

anyway, loved her in Lady Vengeance, so I hope she doesn't stay away for too much longer...

I think people will always associate her with Dae Jang Geum. Watching the series right now and I am enjoying it very much. All the actors are great to watch. Looking forward to her next project. She will probably choose wisely since she don't want a disappointment.

Good for her and got brain too. One of my former colleagues told me before he retired that his wife met her in Vienna, and they have tested her out and were very impressed with her command of German language.
When I am seeing her face, it just makes me thinking of food and accupunture!! Er....feeling very hungry...better go to bed...good night....

I admire her for her interest to continue studying. Education is a good thing, and she's a good example ^^
But I also wish to see her in dramas/film soon ^^
It seems like once a star makes a big hit drama/movie, they go off far far... far...away.
I always thought if someone would make a hit film, they would try to make more films/movies while their popularity is still high. But they always disapear.

Wow, I never knew she has a major in German. I truly admire all of the actors/actresses who continue to pursue education even with their already successful careers in showbiz.

I don't think her heart is in the acting profession, at least not in the public part of it. Who really believes anymore that she's ever going to "make a comeback"?

German, whoa!!! I like it when celebs study things other than film and theater! and going for a doctorate- you've got to be really committed to go through that. I commend her!

I like how she tastefully picks her projects. Makes her seem more elegant, and more of a thoughtful person than those other actors who jump from project to project. Good for fan service I guess, but building up into a forte is better than being monotonous.

I'm so glad she's not one of those actors that capitalizes on their fame and tries to make a lot of money from it.
I admire her goal of higher education and focusing on her own self growth as a person.
I'm sure her next project, if she so chooses, will be tasteful, thoughtful and intelligent, just like her.

Wish Lee Young-ae all the best in her study; I am sure she will enjoy every moment. Please return with more interesting projects!!
This came to my mind: Lee Young-ae & Park Shin-yang in the next drama - the timing may be right.
