Lee Da-hae’s old pageant photos
by javabeans
Lee Da-hae, in 2001 and more recently
Lee Da-hae (East of Eden, Hello Miss) has been attracting some attention for recently discovered photos of her earlier days, given how different they look from her current appearance.
These photos capture Lee Da-hae from a “Miss Chun-hyang” beauty pageant she had won back in 2001. The images were shown when actress Jang Shin-young appeared on the KBS variety show Happy Together on the 21st, and was asked about her participation in the Miss Chun-hyang pageant. She explained that she had come in sixth, but that in the same competition, Lee Da-hae had won first place.
Although Jang looks pretty much the same, many fans are wondering at the noted change to Lee Da-hae’s appearance, leading to inevitable plastic-surgery suspicions.

A couple more of Lee Da-hae:
Meanwhile, Lee Da-hae is newly repped by J Tune Entertainment, and will be joining its CEO Rain on the runway as she walks for his line’s 2009 Fall-Winter collection. They’ll both model items from Rain’s own clothing brand, Six to Five, at a June 6 show in Hong Kong.

Haha.. I knew this would come up sooner or later.
Well, I'm a fan of Da Hae. So I've seen this wayyy back during her MG days. Apparently the picture has always been available online, and ppl already drew comparisons during her Green Rose days, and post MG-days..using this picture and her current pictures. This is just another rehash of the same thing all over again.
I'm not gonna say 100% that she's never done surgery before. And if my memory doesn't fail me, I don't recall her every affirming or denying rumors of surgery? But I may be wrong as I may have forgotten some stuff...
I still love her tho... doesn't matter that whether she has done surgery or not. And if she did, the surgeon must deserve some credits huh? In another forum, some ppl were even complimenting the skills of the surgeon...=P
Here's another picture of Da Hae during her pageant days..

I don't dislike her nor really like her. I tend to keep a neutral feeling. So I think it's not that I don't like her that I'm saying this or that I like her that I'm defending her.
Based on the pictures, make-up and bad qualities aside, there is an apparent difference between her eyes and her nose. Her nose bridge seems rather taller and her eyes bigger. I agree that if she lose weight her cheeks will be smaller too. I have similar nose as hers so I can tell that you can't grow it (lol) or even use make-up to actually make it look bigger. Jawline, however, and cheek bones can be made to look bigger or smaller with make-up and the way the hair is done. I'm not a make-up person but it doesn't take one to see that.
Whatever, it is not like it affects how she acts. :D I just find it rather cool that she is natural. If not, I find it rather "common" nowadays for stars to desire cosmetic surgery to beautify themselves.

her acting skills are good, very talented BUT she likes to act cute !
never think she is uniquely pretty.
nor matter how you want to bluff yourself about your K female idols : most K actresses share same nose, eyes and mouth :p from the same mould :p

I could go either way. The roundness of her face is what strikes me the most, but if she really was 17 here, that would defnitely explain it. I know that I hadn't lost all my baby fat by then--on my drivers license my face is a moon. Now? Not at all.

definitely her and yes she had her nose and eyes done. I guess now, I really feel like the Korean beauty are not "100% " natural. I used to thought "only the real beauty can climb up the stage and become a star. now with the plastic fantastic. I just wish to see how their kids will look like. such and such will get married. and the girl is soooooooo beautiful, their kids will be blessed with good looking face. yeah right.!

What the heck? it doesn't look like the same person. She must have done plastic surgery on her eyes and her nose for sure, and maybe her lips. I no longer know whether Korean celeb is natural or enhanced anymore. To me, plastic surgery or not is irrelevant so long you are not so obsessive with plastic like say Michael Jackson, I care more for their inner beauty and talent. Entertainment industry is fierce and highly competitive. To stay current, one is inevitably forced to "fix" their beauty. so sad though. This is why I always think that all korean celebrities look alike. I read somewhere that statistically only 1/4 koreans are naturally born with double eye lids. Almost all Korean female celebrities have double eyelids. Either 1/4 of the population chose a profession as an actor or the celebrities have done some eye surgery hehehe

It is so sad when you see women resort to plastic surgery to make them feel better. I notice that Korean actresses and actors prefer caucasian look such as big eyes, tall skinny nose, and big lips, etc. I actually find Korean actresses and actors with small slanted eye (with or without eyelids) to be as attractive if not more so that those with big caucasian eyes. I also prefer black hair to dyed hair. I don't understand why some Koreans are trying to be as "white" as possible when having "oriental" look is very unique and beautiful. Some of my friends make such a big deal about having double eyelids. I may be bias (since I have double eyelids), but I know many pretty women without double eyelids and ugly women with double eyelids. When I explained this fuss about double eyelids to my caucasian friend, he looked at me really funny and said "I have never noticed that some asians don't have the lines above their eyes" hahaha.. Sometimes we are being too critical to ourselves.

omg. the 1st time i saw the pic, i thought it was some ahjumma with heavy makeup on. i really cant believe it was LDH! I believe 100% she did plastic surgery. so shes not in the natural beauty list anymore.
too bad, that her old pictures/videos are founded. i think, she's been hiding it well before.

Hmm, I think Lee Da Hae lost weight, lightened the makeup and to me it looks like she reshaped her eyebrows. Maybe she did her eyes? They look a bit different but then again gotta take into account her facial expression @ the time it was taken. But then again I'm not a good spotter of "who's done what"

she was only 17 in that pageant, so if she is 25/26 right now her face/figure/appearance will change. Well her eyes totally changed, But her nose looks the same to me! And for her jaw and cheeks i think she just lost her baby fats.
and If you compare LDH in EOE to LDH in Robbers and Hello!MIss, you can really see the difference.
Getting older and Loosing weight can change a bit of your looks!
and here's her picture when she was a teen

#66, That's not LDH. She's someone else ahahaha. I would believe that her jawbone and cheek might be different due to weight loss, but her eyes and her nose, it's hard to argue that they grew bigger and more defined.

I can't believe peoples and fans who said that she looks the same. I thought it was the different people.
It was very obvious that she got a nose and eyes job. No doubt. Even a makeup, can't cover her difference in the nose. Ages, didn't changes our basic i.e eyes and nose.
But her cheek and chin was the same.

lee shi-young, imo, is quite a person to speak her mind. like in variety shows, she would just be straightforward. i think that is her charm, so she won't hide that fact. she does look much prettier now. btw, junjin did say she has a temper, no? :)

At least if you were going to do plastic, try to maintain Asian look and not go overboard with western look. That's why I like CHoi ji Woo look. I don't know if she had surgery done or not but at least her eyes and her other features still look Asian. Her eyes are still small and slanted and love her dark hair. She rarely ever changes her hairstyle and color. Lee Da Hae's eyes look fixed. I wonder if Song Hye Kyo's beauty is natural or not. I saw her young pictures and she was already gorgeous and had big eyes too.

ah, no i believe it's just the eyes. At first, I thought she did a nose job, but it's the picture quality. I think her nose is still the same. The rest is baby fat all gone or something (i mean, wasn't she 17ish? here) cuz the rest are still the same, cheeck bone and yes even the jaw bone. still same. Ah, but i was hoping her eyes are also natural...grrr, oh well. still like her.

anyway.. i was in a real shock. i wasnt this shock when i heard about other actress, but u know.. people always call her natural before. maybe because she denied it in 2007 (#76) and said shes born with it. people really deceived about her beauty. suddenly seeing her childhood photos which is not just different, but ugly, is just too shock for me.

The old photo her make-up is simply...bad..very bad..almost like something out of a Chinese opera, so I can really judge nothing from the comparison of new and old photo. Just as make-up done well can make a pretty girl beautiful, bad make-up can do the reverse.
82 has a valid comment as girls age their features become more refined, ie losing that 'babyfat' look.
As for eyes..you simply can not tell from a photo, there are so many ways and tricks to making ones eyes look big on demand that have nothing to do with a surgeons knife.

In my opinion, having plastic surgery is a person's right/choice. But lying about it is another story. It's as if you are ashamed about the features that have made you uniquely you and part of your identity. If she had not lied about her 'natural' beauty, maybe there won't be so many posts here.

She learned how to shape her eyebrows, trust me, it makes a difference. Definitely had eye surgery to get double lids. For the rest I lay the 'blame' at the feet of significant weight loss. In 'My Girl' her face was much more filled out (she looked better, in my opinion) than it is now. I would need to compare a 'My Girl' pic to one of those pageant pics to see if she really *gulp* shaved her jaw. ::shudder:: Either way, she's a pretty girl -- that hasn't changed.

A lot of these comments are really upsetting to me. You, and the media, hold such absurdly high standards of beauty for stars, and then you criticize them when you find out they've had surgery to meet that standard? It's hypocrisy, and I really find it disgusting.
Let the woman have whatever face she wants to. I *do* find it objectionable for a star to lie about plastic surgery (even more so if it's to do with weight loss), but really.. aren't there more important things for us to be worrying about?
